Sunday Afternoon Post
Posted by Michelle Moquin on December 16th, 2012
Good morning!
In light of the subject two days ago, this is the other side of it, and since Rice is now unfortunately not the chosen one to be the new Secretary of State, (I’m still so disappointed about this) just who will be nominated? I guess it is not a question since we all know “who” is Obama’s top choice on that short list.
I found this write and I have to say that I agree with the Dems concerns. The repubs are encouraging Obama to nominate Kerry for Secretary of State but their motives are not exactly without regard to their own self interests. When is it not ever just about their own self interests?
Oh no…they see this as an opportunity to regain a seat in the Senate that they lost this past election. If they can’t own the White House, and they’ve got control of the House, their next step is to have the majority in the Senate, and control that too.
Therefore, Kerry leaving the Senate is an open position for them to possibly gain. No doubt Obama is aware of this. So why is he nominating Kerry for the position? Your guess is as good as mine but let me say loud and clear just in case anybody cares: For the sake of the country because we will be risking losing a place in the Senate, nothing against Kerry, but I think he should remain where he is, as a Senator of Massachusetts, and in my opinion Obama should nominate someone else. I am not sure who else is on that short list but Kerry shouldn’t be on it, and he definitely shouldn’t be the nominee.
We’ve all worked so hard to get Obama’s administration where it is today, we cannot afford any repub ripple effect.
What are your thoughts? Here’s the write:
John Kerry To Get Secretary Of State Nomination, Reports ABC
Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) will be nominated to succeed Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State, sources tell ABC’s Jake Tapper.
The announcement will not come in the next few days, ABC reports, due to a number of circumstances.
Kerry topped President Barack Obama’s short list of candidates after U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice withdrew her name from consideration in light of fierce GOP opposition.
The Huffington Post’s Sam Stein and Joshua Hersh reported earlier this month that Democrats were nervous about the prospect of nominating Kerry:
The concerns have nothing to do with Kerry’s ability to handle the Foggy Bottom post. Nearly everyone agrees that he has the intellectual acumen and experience for the job.Instead, Democrats said they worry that Republicans may be using the secretary of state fight as a roundabout way to regain a Senate seat the GOP lost this fall, when Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) was defeated by Elizabeth Warren. The anti-Rice gambit, some Democrats said, has the feel of a Republican long con.
“I don’t doubt that at all in terms of their motives,” said Tad Devine, a longtime Democratic strategist who served as a senior adviser to Kerry’s 2004 presidential campaign. “I think they are trying to come down from 55 [Democrats] to get to 50 as fast as they can in the Senate.”
In back channels, these concerns are making their way to the top levels of the administration. Top Senate Democrats have expressed concerns to the White House about a possible special election for a Senate seat in Massachusetts, a Democratic source close to conversation told The Huffungton Post. Another Democratic source — who, like the first, would only discuss sensitive conversations on condition of anonymity — confirmed that concerns were expressed. A third source added that leaders in the Senate also said they would be comfortable with a prospective Kerry nomination if it is clear that the White House is invested in a subsequent special election.

Speaking of Clinton, I HOPE she is feeling better. Whoever takes her positions, she certainly will be missed.

There’s something fishy about this one, Misch, I’m going to say a back door deal (put Kerry in and you’ll get x/y/z, put in Rice and we hassle/block you about x/y/z, maybe MikeTM, or Anonz can acknowledge and/or elaborate if I’m correct – or not, please?)…

Is this guy playing with a full deck? He is doing just what the republicans want him to. Doesn’t he know that once he shows how weak he is, he will never get any cooperation from that pack of animals.
December 17th, 2012 at 7:41 am
John Kerry is certainly qualified but so are others who bring as much or more in terms of foreign policy experience such as former Governor of New Mexico, former U.N. Ambassador and Bill Clinton’s go to guy for myriad sensitive diplomatic missions Bill Richardson and would be the first Hispanic to serve in the position of U.S. Sec. of State…
Besides Kerry is the republican choice so they can had scott brown his seat.

When Obama adds Jane Fonda to his cabinet it will now be complete. Anyone ask Obama about his concert he just attended from a group who said “death to Americian soldiers and may their kids die a slow death” Nice support for our troops and country. This is just another example of why people vote for the party instead of the country and the individual.
December 17th, 2012 at 7:44 am
We shouldn’t be surprised at anything coming out of the White House these days……….AND, his next four years hasn’t even begun………tighten your seat belts “folks” (as dear old Barry likes to call us) …….we haven’t seen nuttin’ yet……..
Hyperinflation…….a whole new “middle class” of Americans will emerge very soon………Doctors already beginning to retire……..this isn’t a scare tactic…..I’m simply asking that you give consideration as to the “road we are now travelling”
Kerry will be nothing more than another Obama puppet……Rice, Hillary……all the same……..it will be interesting to see how long it takes for Hillary to get her memory back…….
Here’s one for you blue blooded AMERICANS…….those of you who want our Country back as we once knew it…….
GOOGLE these two news stories which you won’t hear/read/see on our main street media…..
“General Ham ordered to Stand Down” ……..twice…….
“Rear Admiral Charles M. Gaouette relieved of his command”
Two front line AMERICANS, who, when they immediately prepared a strike force……..IN REAL TIME………while the firefight was going on were relieved of their commnds
December 17th, 2012 at 7:46 am
Gordon, you right wing bigots are all alike. You attempt to pass on to others you on behavior. I voted for President Obama for America, not party. I’ll bet, because of your comment about Jane Fonda that you always vote party.
December 17th, 2012 at 7:47 am
Ed, It’s nice to know , that we Must Pick People Because of there RACE to make people feel warm and Fussy , not just on how good of a hob they would do.
December 17th, 2012 at 7:51 am
I think he should be willing to tun it down so that we in Ma don’t have to go thru another special election with the chance that we will again get Scott Brown as a Senator. He ran a despicable smear type of campaign never running an on his record which of course he could not.
And we may get him again please. He should think of the people in our state & not just further his own career after all the support we’ve given him all these years.
If he takes the job, leaving us with Scott Brown Again, I will hate him if he does this as that was the GOP plan all along & he gladly goes along with it at the expense of not only our state but Susan Rice.
Also Obama needs every Democratic vote he can get in the Senate. I can’t imagine what he is thinking of.
December 17th, 2012 at 7:54 am
To all you hypocrites at work who knock Kerry’s military I guess we’d be much better off with the likes of a Cheney, Bush or Rove –all who pussied out on serving militarily overseas with bogus draft dodging excuses –as they wrap themselves in the flag….get a life
December 17th, 2012 at 7:55 am
Good. This will pave the way for Scott Brown to take back his senate seat he should’ve won against the liar, phony Pocahontas Warren.
December 17th, 2012 at 7:55 am
So, Obama throws an obviously qualified black female under the bus in favor of an old, rich white guy?
Think of the field day the media would have had a Republican POTUS pulled this stunt.
December 17th, 2012 at 7:56 am
Well, well. Kerry will fit right in with the rest of Obama’s band of weasels. All skilled at the art of CORRUPTION. Like Hillary and all of the others, he’ll be another stool pigeon who will be lying to protect his CROOKED boss.
December 17th, 2012 at 7:57 am
After President Bush’s Secretaries of State, Colin Powell and Condilezza Rice, both African Americans and the one a woman, its nice to see President Obama, after calling Republicans racists, nominate an old, rich, white guy to the post.
December 17th, 2012 at 7:57 am
John Kerry is why we ended up with George Bush who led us to Obama who is taking us back to Kerry! They are all connected, all related. Remember, God wins!
December 17th, 2012 at 7:59 am
Where are you Howie? This blog needs a real topic to talk about. What is happening in the alien world? If anybody knows you do.

December 17th, 2012 at 7:59 am
Another really bad joke played on the American people by the Leader of the Alternate Universe.
This country has now managed to install an absolute NATIONAL DISGRACE into every major office of this land. Well f’ing done, “folks”.
December 17th, 2012 at 8:00 am
“..nominate an old, rich, white guy to the post.”
It has nothing to do with race.An old rich while guy can be just as anti-american as anybody else. He’s a liberal war hero. Amazing that he’s not going to be Secretary of Defense.
December 17th, 2012 at 8:01 am
Liberals are situational – that defines them. They are the antithesis of integrity.
“The essence of the Liberal outlook lies not in what opinions are held, but in how they are held: instead of being held dogmatically, they are held tentatively, and with a consciousness that new evidence may at any moment lead to their abandonment.”
~ Bertrand Russell
That is the essence of integrity. The ability to adapt and respond to facts and evidence, rather than idiotic, blind ideology
December 17th, 2012 at 8:01 am
President Obama could not have made a better choice. John Kerry is highly qualified for this post. And, I predict he will be one of the best Secretary of States….Thank you President Obama, you have chosen wisely for our times.
December 17th, 2012 at 8:02 am
What a waste of time and effort, the Fraud in the WH has just made the NVA hero responsible for something….
December 17th, 2012 at 8:03 am
Not so fast there folks. From The Globe…
“Everyone from a Chicago gossip columnist to network TV correspondents reported today that President Obama had settled on Senator John F. Kerry as his next secretary of state yet was withholding a formal announcement, sparking White House denials…”
December 17th, 2012 at 8:04 am
well anything is better than a republican, and let’s face it, Kerry was right about our wantonly killing in Viet Nam, so let’s not go there. The state of the DNC is running high and mighty, where are the little goddamned republicans these days? OUT ON THEIRASSES because nothing you people say or do works out well for any American, ever.
December 17th, 2012 at 8:04 am
Obama is definitely scraping the bottom of the barrel for this nomination. But, hey, that’s where most Democrats lurk anyway. They ain’t got much to choose from for any position, including future presidential candidates. They all suck.
December 17th, 2012 at 8:05 am
Just one more notch on the handle of Obamas Colt45 in changing America. One more appointee for a good conservative President to FIRE one day after being elected. Our National Identity has suffered some serious blows in Obamas first term. Hang on for the real devastation to come. This is what the Mayan Calender refers to.
December 17th, 2012 at 8:06 am
“And the best part, is that stupid tea party morons, such as the ones posting here, hate him.” Spoken like a truly intelligent person! Hey, did everyone know that John Kerry was in Vietnam!?!
December 17th, 2012 at 8:08 am
Sec. State is like Sec Defense – there are no liberals worthy or capable of such a position. Hell, Hillary proved that, fat drunk that she is. Look at the disaster she made of the Middle East and Northern Africa.
The only winners there are Barack Hussein Obama and his associates in the Muslim Brotherhood. So, old horse-face Kerry will do no more damage than Hillary and likely he’ll do a lot less, now that the ME/N. Africa is melting down.
Also now we can get Scott Brown back.
December 17th, 2012 at 8:08 am
John Kerry and Jane Fonda … two of a kind. Both should have been tried and convicted of treason. Fonda for her visits to and support of the North Vietnamese and Kerry for his actions in Washington while his comrades continued to fight in Vietnam.
It is true, he is smart. He played all of the angles. He has foreign experience, after all he was in contact with the enemy while peace talks were underway in Paris. Jane Fonda is honored in Vietnam. If Kerry isn’t, he should be but he should NOT be the Secretary of State and Jane Fonda shouldn’t be in the movies.
December 17th, 2012 at 8:09 am
Why do ‘Democrats always go for recorded liars and masters of deception for our highest and most important offices? This guy has a proven problem with the truth and reality.
December 17th, 2012 at 8:10 am
Republicans are doing the happy dance behind closed doors… why else would McCain and his cohorts so adamantly fight Rice’s approval? They knew Kerry was next in line resulting in one less Democrat in the senate.
Well played…although at the very least we will have someone who is more than qualified as Secretary of State regardless of how you feel about him personally.
December 17th, 2012 at 8:10 am
This is EXACTLY what Obama wanted in the first place. He threw out a totally unacceptable candidate first, who he knew would not be accepted, so he could throw out an almost as unacceptable candidate as his second choice!!!!
I saw this coming weeks ago!! This is standard Obama, dictatorship, game play!!
How stupid are you American people?? Obviously very stupid and very gullible.
You deserve to be run over by this communist.
Kerry is an American hater. He hates our military as much as Obama and the rest of the Democrats. He calls our military ‘killers’ and ‘murderers’, after they do the job the Democrats send them in to do. He is dirt.
December 17th, 2012 at 8:13 am
First of all to you gloaters out there who are happy as heck that Obama was reelected I want to say that you have really examine where the country is heading.
I am a conservative which will immediately vilify me to most of the libs which is fine. I dont care. But since you libs dont seem to quite get that even if the rich in this country were taxed at 95%, YOU still wouldnt get a balanced budget, and the rich in this country will simply do what they do when such oppression hits: LEAVE.
They are doing it now. You see it when companies close up and decide to move elsewhere. My cousins potato chip company was a multimillion dollar concern. It became extremely difficult so he left… the country. Now he is thriving overseas with overseas workers.
Is he a traitor? Heck no. He is a businessman and he is going where business is welcomed. This Barack Hussein Obama character who is a full-on FRAUD and Serial Liar, has made businesses that succeed hostile entities.
So when the money is GONE to pay for YOUR freebies, then what? YOUR taxes go up and up and up. They will anyway… With Obamas FIRST week in office, YOUR taxes go up several thousand dollars overall. Who cares why, HE OWNS IT! There aint no more of this “blame Bush” crap. This is Obamas war now and he has made a LOT of enemies of his citizens.
Oh yeah, Kerry is a gold digger who has never had a real job in his life so dont start spewing that he is full of understanding and compassion. When relieved of his command in vietnam he turned on his leaders out of spite. After all he was relieved of command why? Because he was TOO AGGRESSIVELY GOING AFTER
THE ENEMY and endangering his crew’s lives. So does THAT sound like a conscientious objector? I think not. In fact I KNOW not.
Kerry will further screw up our foreign policy and probably drag us into another war if not foment a terrorist attack on our soil again. He is just THAT kind of guy.
Our defense and sovereignty has NEVER been weaker in the history of the USA. Time to buy guns and be ready to defend our families.
December 17th, 2012 at 8:13 am
Typical Obama. Talks big about diversity and helping the middle class, but when push comes to shove, he nominates an old white guy who is definitely one of the top one percenters.
December 17th, 2012 at 8:14 am
John Kerry was right about Vietnam. We were trying to stop a country from uniting under their George Washington. That Ho Chi Minh was a communist should not haceve mattered….80% of the people wanted him to lead their nation but the mighty U.S. could not stand the thought of it.
In the end, the people of Vietnam got what they wanted and as we can all see today, Vietnam is fine. John Kerry may be many things…but wrong about Vietnam is not one of them.
I am a conservative but will support this choice. It is time we begin to work together to change this country…
December 17th, 2012 at 8:15 am
Senator Kerry is a Statesman and will make an exceptional Secretary of State.
What is a shame is all the misinformation and lies that are being posted here against Senator Kerry- way to many to address them all.
Suffice to say, that he has over 20 years experience in fieeign relations, he served our country honorably, and the medals he received were check and rechecked and proven to be well earned.
And, the reminents of the lies from the Republican political group, swiftboaters, has be shown to be lies and political slander.
Our President could not have nominated anyone more qualified, and passionate about this post than Senator Kerry.
December 17th, 2012 at 8:16 am
Finally, the People of Massachusetts will get another chance to put a REAL AMERICAN Senator in office, not like the Marxist liar the Democrats recently elected. We need Scott Brown he served our country honorably, Kerry did not.
Kerry is and has always been a traitor just like Jane Fonda. Kerry is no hero, he threw his medals away because he knew full well he didn’t earn them. His unearned Purple Heart and Silver Star was because he threw a grenade into a rice patty and was hit by flying rice.
He injured himself, he was not injured in combat.. He put himself in for those medals since he was an officer and could do so, because he was planning to run for office and needed those medals for political purposes.
He was Dishonorably Discharged, but when he became Senator he changed that discharge to Honorable, which he did not deserve. Massachusetts’ gain is America’s lost. But since this Administration doesn’t give a damn about our country, they, too, in time will reap the just reward they deserve. God Willing!
December 17th, 2012 at 8:17 am
I can’t believe Kerry the coward is being picked to head the state dept. Look out ambassadors, if you think Hillary has blood on her hands watch this coward. The left has no leaders so they put up rejects of the past. They all should be behind bars.
December 17th, 2012 at 8:19 am
I agree with you Scott, We need a shout out from Howie. What ‘s up from the man who knows all things alien.
December 17th, 2012 at 8:20 am
What the general public fails to understand is that many of these arrogant gun-nuts have dozens of guns of all varieties of destructive power plus thousands of rounds of ammunition stocked in their homes – effectively an arsenal of death!!
Why?? It’s time to ban guns and limit those owners to a single weapon if they can pass the strictest background and sanity checks. The last vestiges of the Revolutionary War end in 1812 with the defeat of the British in New Orleans with the help of General Lafayette from France – that’s 200 years ago.
That’s the sole reason why the 2nd amendment is even there – merely to help insure the survivial of a fledgling country. But today that country leads the world and the operational logic of the 2nd amendment is more absolete than the pony express vs an iPod.
December 17th, 2012 at 8:21 am
Republicans live in Bizzaro World. Some opposite universe. Kerry has 2 Purple Hearts from Viet Nam. G.W. got his Daddy to pull strings to get him into the National Guard so he wouldn’t have to go. And how many deferments did Cheney have??
December 17th, 2012 at 8:22 am
The funny thing is, no matter who Obama nominates, the Right will whine and complain and belittle and insult. Just like they do day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day after day about everything.
They are, as a group, the most depressing, glum, sad, insulting, and pessimistic group of people I have ever encountered………..
December 17th, 2012 at 8:23 am
Why are right-wingers having a fit about Kerry’s nomination? This is something McCain and his rat pack wanted when they hounded and bullied Susan Rice out of the picture. They said Kerry’s confirmation in the senate would be swift. The irony is whether they will swift boat Kerry as they did before.
December 17th, 2012 at 8:25 am
I can see why Kerry is so appealing to Democrats: He married his wealth instead of earning it, speaks French, and keep his yacht moored in Rhode Island to avoid paying Massachusetts taxes on it.”
And McCain, Lindsay Graham, and the rest of the rat pack still laud Kerry’s nomination, claiming his confirmation will be smooth sailing. Shouldn’t your beef be with McCain and his posses?
December 17th, 2012 at 8:27 am
Thie selection of Kerry STINKS just like the rest of the Obama administration STINKS. Another SERIAL LIAR will get added to the ranks, as this country continues to go deeper and deeper into a rat hole.
December 17th, 2012 at 8:28 am
The real reason McCain was so virulently anti-Rice was personal. Due to comments she made in 2008 about then-presidential-candidate McCain. Chiding him for wearing a flak jacket to a green-zone, safe market in Iraq, and calling him a “shoot first and ask questions later kind of guy.” McCain never got over that. That grumpy old man sure can hold a grudge, and he finally got a chance to wield it………
December 17th, 2012 at 8:30 am
The last clown, now the Obama circus is full, what a disgrace, this is why no one around the world like the USA anymore, and the Repulicans are no better, Thomas Jefferson was right, but we are all too subdued by TV to wake up.
December 17th, 2012 at 8:31 am
Evidently…a lot of you out here don’t know much about the CIA, military industrial complex and ‘wealth connections’ when it comes to “Skull and Bones” members….do you? And I imagine most of you still think that Susan Rice wasn’t a ‘pawn’ and don’t believe that she just got ‘caught up’ in the Benghazi scenario because of these ‘connections’. You all better start doing your research in a much more ‘thorough’ manner. Because you have ‘no clue’….how this country is run.
December 17th, 2012 at 8:31 am
The Republicans in the Senate WANT him to be the Secretary NOT because of qualifications but because it would force a special election in Massachusetts. They are SO PO’ed that Scott Brown the Lapdog of Wall Street] lost to Elizabeth Warren they were willing to throw Susan Rice under the bus to get that seat back.
Now the Conservatives are SCREAMING that he is not worthy. Remember two great phrases: Beggars cannot be choosers, and Be careful what you wish for – you may get it! ;)

It’s about time.
=========================
A Chamorro academic at a United States university says she is one of a number of feminist scholars re-framing negative historical perceptions of Guam’s indigenous women.
Tina DeLisle of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, is researching the importance of the Guma Irritao, residential schools for young men where they were taught skills such as fishing, canoe-building and navigation.
She says although 17th century Spanish colonists recognised the power of women in Guam’s matrilineal society, they demonised them for visiting the Guma Irritao, portraying their behaviour as immoral.
“Those accounts that early Chamorro institution, form of education, and really missed the whole thing around sexuality, which conveys a different notion of sexuality, right, very contrary to what the Spanish believed – you had to be married in order to have sex.”
Tina DeLisle says accounts by the early 20th century’s American colonists also misrepresented Chamorro women.

Sadly, once a person turns 18 it is impossible to get them help if they don’t want it. If Adam Lanza’s mother knew how disturbed he was (and how could she not, living in the same house with him?), what the hell was she thinking having all of those unsecured guns in the house?
December 17th, 2012 at 9:32 am
Taking a kid with any kind of cognitive disability to a firing range with Mom’s gun collection – whether he has classic mental illness or chronic “odd behavior” to the point of having to be home schooled–is madness.
So, too, is buying him video games which not only glorify violence but encourage in-home participation in firing electronic guns back at the TV. Whatever set Adam Lanza off on his final journey, his mom bought him the ticket to get there.
Guns and ammo have to be licensed but so, too, should parenthood.
December 17th, 2012 at 10:05 am
While I understand that there are horrific challenges to parenting a mentally ill child, Adam Lanza was not a child and his Mother, as a gun owner, failed to properly secure numerous automatic weapons from the son whom she knew was mentally unbalanced.
I will go one step farther and state that because she was evidently the first victim, she will never know just how many lives were ended or destroyed by her need to own weapons that she saw no need to secure.
IMHO, she got off easy.
