Obama Calls For “Meaningful Action”

Good morning!

First, I want to say that my heart goes out to the families and friends of the victims of this horrific massacre in Connecticut. Whenever something like this happens, and it has been happening too much, this is something that we never think will happen again, yet it continues to happen over and over. It has got to stop.

What are we going to do to prevent this from happening again? When are we going to have the gun control conversation? When are we going to take gun control seriously and ban assault weapons?

President Obama spoke briefly from the White House this afternoon, delivering emotional remarks about the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

An emotional President Obama on Friday called for unspecified “meaningful action” regardless of political consequences, after a school shooting in Newtown, CT, reportedly killed 27 people, including 18 children.

“We’re going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this, regardless of the politics,” Obama said during a brief address from the White House, where he repeatedly wiped away tears.

“We’ve endured too many of these tragedies in the past few years. Each time I learn the news, I react not as a president, but as anybody else would, as a parent. And that is especially true today,” said Obama, the father of two daughters.

Obama says we need to take “meaningful action.”

And then…what I found on Maddow’s blog, “This Week in God”, you’ve got Mike Huckabee on FOX saying shit like this:

Neil Cavuto said that many invariably ask after tragedies like this, “How could God let this happen?” Huckabee responded:

“Well, you know, it’s an interesting thing. We ask why there is violence in our schools but we have systematically removed God from our schools. Should we be so surprised that schools would become a place of carnage? [...]

“You know, God wasn’t armed. He didn’t go to the school. But God will be there in the form of a lot people with hugs and with therapy and a whole lot of ways in which I think he will be involved in the aftermath. Maybe we ought to let him in on the front end and we wouldn’t have to call him to show up when it’s all said and done at the back end.”

Here’s the video if you want to watch the full segment

And if you want to read the interesting full opinion about Huckabee’s comments on Maddow’s blog, click here.

I also want to end with saying to those who have been celebrating Hanukkah, Happy Hanukkah! – I HOPE that you have been enjoying your holiday with friends and family!

Peace & Love

  1. Crystal Says:

i for one am sick of politicians who align themselves with the NRA for votes and support, with no regard for meaningful debate.

  2. 冬梅 Says:

We had a similar tragedy in China. 22 children were stabbed but none died.

    Dong-Mei

  3. Donna Says:

Nope, Can’t take their guns. Don’t have enough pacifiers made to replace them and they’re to big to suck their thumbs. Wouldn’t be fair either, since the gun is such an extension and symbol of their manhood.

  4. Jesse Says:

I suspect Texans will call for “meaningful action”, should his plan to disarm law-abiding citizens succeed. With all the recent talk of secession, I would not be surprised

  5. Hawse Says:

I was once a big supporter of the NRA,until they went so far right that they no longer represented all gun owners. They are now a sub of the Tea Party.Right Wing Radicals.Pouring money into Pub candidates.I’m a Democrat.I own guns. Many of them.Yet they were taking my money and putting it into the Pub Party.Needless to say?NRA?No more.

  6. Donna Says:

You understand that the Repubs have their Rush,Hannity, Beck talking points. They don’t want answers..Abortion, gun control, Govt regulations, taxes are like rallying cry. their whining subjects.

They pretend not to understand “control” & “ban”, “affordable” & “free”. “regulate” & “control”, etc. Why bother talking to them?

  7. Zoe Says:

Guns sales are about to go through the roof.

  8. Hawse Says:

Sure we have the right to bear arms.Just like this guy had a right to bear arms. There is a gap between law biding citizens bearing arms vs. looney toons, thugs, and pea brains having those same rights. Thus lies the problem and what needs worked on to fix it.

  9. Lincoln Says:

They should take money they are giving away overseas to all them countries that hate our guts and teach concealed handgun classes to teachers when they find out they are armed people in the schools they will pick other targets.

As far as you people bad mouthing the NRA its goes to show you don’t have clue what you are talking about how many firearm violations have you seen about NRA and Concealed Handgun people

  10. Homes Says:

    Spoons are making people fat.

  11. Hawse Says:

The NRA is a sub for the Pub Party. They pour a lot of money into Pub Candidates. So why should any Democrat put money into an organization that funnels that money into the Pub Party. That should be illegal, and is definately unethical.

  12. Duke Says:

Lincoln, What happens when one of the teachers snap and decide to shoot up their classroom? It doesn’t stop there

  13. Tony Says:

KS, is right. I do not thnk they have a chance of taking weapons away because of the second admendment. I have to agree with Duke. Even though it would be nice to have teachers carry guns.

Their are way too many loony teachers out there. No laws would have prevented the Newtown massacre. Those were his mother’s guns. The mall shooting in Oregon, the guy used stolen guns.

  14. Mary Says:

You tiny dick wonders will espouse any excuse to continue to be able to buy that thing that makes you feel your wee wee is bigger.

Of course the Newtown massacre could have been prevented. The shooter couldn’t get the rifle he was attempting to buy in Conn. because they had a wait and check rule.

He got them from his loony toon mother. But If there were laws against selling assault rifles to people, that crazy woman wouldn’t have had one. A lot of good it did her in protecting her from the coming end of the white man’s western world. Her own son blew her ignorant ass away.

No, civilian needs an assault or a gun that fires 100 rounds a minute. That is just the NRA playing to the twisted mentality of the men out there who need to carry on their arms what they don’t have to carry between their legs.

  15. John Says:

Obama and the leftists will shamelessly politicize this tragedy to push their agenda to seize handguns from law-abiding citizens.

If they are successful, the amount of innocent people murdered by criminals will skyrocket. You can’t get a good dictatorship off the ground when the people are able to defend themselves.

  16. Irene Says:

Tell me again, what wrong with having Instant background checks for people who want to buy a gun?

And tell me what the person who purchases a semi automatic assault rifle will be hunting?

And oh why do we allow a person to sell a gun to anyone simply because he is selling it at a gun show?

  17. Joshua Says:

The real shame is that no one of authority wants to admit that the Country is mentally ill. Not just the shooter. It is a sign of the times. We will continue to see this kind of horrific voilence when we live in a mentally ill country which has taken God out of the public places.

Young men are especially susceptible to acting out violently when they see the hiprocracy of greed and lust from all our so called leaders in Government, Schools, Churches, Financial institutions and homes.

If we will no longer teach our childern to seek first the kingdom of God they will be pulled into this worlds deceptive vices. Take all the guns away, and you will not stop this wave of violence. They will merely find other forms to express their discontent which will be just as horrible. We are the problem.

  18. Zack Says:

I am a parent, and I am a gun owner, and I’ve been licensed to carry a concealed weapon. More concealed weapons, in the hands of the mentally stable and fully trained are the answer, not taking them away from those responsible enough to protect you with them.

You can entertain ideas of better gun control, but you can not entertain taking guns away. Without taking away the right that was amended to the constitution right after your right to liberty was. That should say something, that your right to liberty was an amendment, think about it. They go together, or they’ll split us apart.

  19. Brenda Says:

Joshua, I agree this country is mentally ill. Your inability to grasp the degree and see that your religious rants is bullshit is proof positive.

I for one do believe that we wouldn’t continue to see this type of horrific violence if there was a ban on military style assault weapons. I agree with your statement that this country is mentally ill, but would be clear about whom we speak.

White America runs the show we are the mentally ill who support those penis challenged individuals who need military style assault weapons to feel like men.

I’m talking about people like you and Zack who have children yet would rather expose them to slaughter by the mentally ill than require common sense gun regulation like background checks.

Teaching your children to seek the first kingdom of God is not the answer. How about showing them how to act by example? That never occurs to the mentally ill. Are you getting my drift Joshua?

I am willing to bet you take your children to your segregated all white church every Sunday and afterwards you never miss an opportunity to pontificate about how superior the white race is to the rest of America’s citizens.

The hypocrisy of lust and greed has been the mainstay of white America since the inception of this country because it has always been about white men. Just as the “freedom to buy assault weapons” is about the need of tiny dick white men to feel manly.

Only the mentally ill would espouse taking away all the guns would not stop this wave of violence. If the wave of violence is being perpetrated by guns, then idiotic, taking their guns away will prevent them from shooting 20 kids in less than a minute.

Some mentioned that 22 kids in China were stabbed by a mad man. They used that as an example to show that violence would still exist without guns. But as usual when the manipulative LSOS gun lovers opine they do it deceptively.

That asshole was no exception otherwise he would have told the whole story. Yes, 20 plus kids were stabbed, but NONE of them died. Can you gun crazy maniacs get that? NONE OF THEM DIED. They get to go home to their parents.

Shooting some one with an assault weapon capable of firing hundreds of lethal bullets a minute guarantees someone will die. In Newtown Conn 27 women and children between the ages of 5 and 7 did.

There is a difference between a gun and an assault weapon.

You white men will go to any lengths to justify your sick needs. My father was never so happy as when he came home with his brand new assault rifle.

I remember mom smiling and saying, bet he as a hard on. I was 19 and thought at the time “TMI!” But now at 31, I fully understand.

I, like you Zack, have children, The difference is I love them more than I love the guns my inadequately endowed husband needs to feel like a man.

Sure I believe in the right to bear arms. I absolutely believe it is the only equalizer when it comes to male on female violence. My husband knows that I carry and that if he attempted to use violence against me like my father used against my mother, I would cap his ass in sec.

But that does not mean I believe a civilian should be able to purchase a gun without a background check or to be able to buy an assault weapon.Yes, Joshua, this country is mentally ill because they are the ones who support the tiny dick white boy who makes the claim that the 2nd Amendment “guarantees” the right to own an assault rifle.

If I hear that other white idiotic Scalia correctly when he claims if it isn’t in the constitution you don’t have that right, then you don’t. But of course he is another of those LSOS hypocrites that you are talking about Joshua.

So, of course, he does the necessary mental gymnastics to arrive at a way to guarantee that right for the “I need a big gun to feel like a man white boy.”

They would be just another inadequately endowed white boy toy, like his pickup truck with huge wheels or sports car, painted outlandishly to garner attention, and this would just be an amusing anecdote, if this particular “toy” wasn’t so dangerous.

When the mentally ill start using that “toy” to kill women and children, I say, ENOUGH.
