Furry friends in need….

…can you do a good deed?
A few days ago I received an email from the Milo Foundation. This is one of my favorite non-profits that I have not only offered my services as a volunteer, but I have donated money and a few pairs of my pajamas to several of their benefit events. They are close to my heart because what they do is rescue domestic animals, EVERY animal – they have a no-kill policy and unfortunately and sadly, a sanctuary in California is proving to be too costly for them to run anymore.
The Milo Foundation has been running a sanctuary in Mendocino County and just recently acquired a space for a permanent indoor adoption center in Marin County. But before they even had a chance to hang their sign, they are going to have to close their doors. They ran out of funds and in order to keep the sanctuary alive, the heart of the Milo Foundation, they board voted 2-3 that they must close down their Marin operations in order to continue to thrive at the Sanctuary.
Milo operates on a bare bones budget, and the escalating costs of insurance, vet bills, workers comp, coupled with the past years decline in adoption fees and donations while they waited for permits in Marin etc, ended up being way too much for Milo to continue.
Tragically, this means the end of rescuing and placing more than a thousand animals every year. Milo has rescued over 16,000 animals in their 14 year history. Not having an indoor permanent space to show animals really means the end of rescuing adult cats and many dogs. They have installed their show cages in the front room in Marin, and they have many momma cats in foster care with their litters of kittens…how they will find them homes is just one of their current concerns. It’s hard to believe that they are in one of the country’s most affluent and animal friendly counties and to now have to close down is more than heartbreaking!
In hearing this news, a few friends of Milo who have been waiting eagerly for them to open in Marin have offered to help. One generous donor wants to pay the rent for two months, another is donating a restored, classic vehicle for Milo, and Milo renegotiated with the landlord who lowered the rent in an effort to help. A couple of Milo volunteers have offered to help maintain activities there and care for the animals, help with adoptions, and answer phones. That being said, Milo is hoping to maintain the new adoption center in San Rafael on a fairly low budget for awhile. But in order for them to even contemplate keeping their facility in San Rafael open, Milo needs further monthly support in the form of $25, $50, $75 and $100 monthly sponsorships, or annual memberships.
The bottom line is this: Milo needs to raise 100K, a huge amount, before the end of summer! And the Board can only reconsider if there are serious and significant commitments before the end of June! There is obviously not much time.
I know that only a handful of you my readers live in California but I had to write about this anyway since Milo is near and dear to me. I am writing a check myself and I am encouraging any of you to donate if you can. I like to fundraise for organizations that I believe in although I don’t normally do it on my blog, but if you are an animal lover like I am you would do the same if you had a reach of thousands of people like I do. Because of all of you, if everyone just donated one dollar, we could all help tremendously. That is all I ask for the animals. Thank you from my heart.
Gratefully your blog host,
michelle ?

Hi Michelle, ok I was thinking wtf good would a $25 (all I can do given limited resources and other women causes I support) from me do but you convinced me with that last $1 statement, it’s a done deal : ) I’m kind of hankering for another doggie, too, but that’ll have to wait :(
anonz, on a less personal note, Madaline is warning you to watch your back from cronies you’re mistaking for true friends, it’s one thing sharing with us, it’s another to help them ‘save face’ as fallen Republicans when they may just have more than one of those (faces). Just my two cents…proceed as you wish. & I have asked twice and Madaline once, so are you going to tell us the why behind your aversion to voting for the O man??
Ciao for now, Zen Lill

I. “What choices did he have?”
Hercules did not have a choice. He was hated by Hera as soon as she found out he was the son of Zeus. So the Queen of the gods had it in for him. He would spend the rest of his life on earth reacting to whatever she had planned for him.
This posed several philosophies for mortal man: He could look at the story of Hercules and conclude that Fatalism was man’s fate. Fatalism is the belief that man is powerless to do anything other than what he actually does. Hercules was certainly powerless to do anything but react to what Hera threw his way.
II. “What would you say was his greatest mistakes in choosing one thing over another?
Hercules greatest mistake was in trying to atone for the murder of his wife and children. He was driven mad by Hera so he was not at fault. However, he would not have been aware of the fact that he had been put in that state of mind by another.
III. “What would you say was his greatest mistake in choosing one thing over another?”
I don’t think that you could say that he made a mistake. Whatever he did, or did not do, did not matter in the scheme of things. Hera would have adjusted the situation to insure that the outcome would be what it was. If the gods have it in for you what can you actually do to change what they have in mind for you to experience?
IV. “Could he have chosen an easier way of life than he did? Whatever path he chose Hera would have interceded to bring him back to the path she had chosen for him.
V. “Would you say he sometimes acted precipitously in the handling of the 12 tasks?”
What did it matter how he handled the 12 tasks or if he even chose to not answer them? Hera was in charge of the direction of his life and she was intent on making him suffer until he died.
VI. His “bad temper” was caused by Hera’s manipulation of every key moment in his life. Who could maintain an even temper under constant bombardment of bad breaks.
VII. True he had no control over his emotions. Hera would have continued to push him had he remained calm.
VIII. Anyone implying that Hercules made mistakes, is saying that he/she is unaware of the difference between events that just happen to a person and events that are planned and calculated to provoke, produce or cause a particular set of circumstances.
IX. “What would I do differently if I were him?”
It would depend on whether I were aware of who was causing my dilemma. If I were him, it would depend on my state of mind during the events. I would like to think that I would not have been as violent. However, that would not have actually changed the results, if Hera was bent on my death occurring and me suffering towards it, it would have occurred maybe a bit differently, but certainly it would have occurred.
X. “What advice would I give Hercules?” Being a logical being I would first weight whether my advice would do him any good. Since I know that Hera would just get her way in another manner, I would not risk, her wrath by telling him who was the cause of his dilemma. If I didn’t know that a god was manipulating his life, I would give him plenty of advice and wonder out laud, why it wasn’t working.

Sir
You are so famous! Your blog is being copied in several languages and printed verbatim. Girl, you have a serious lawsuit in the making. They sometimes change the name of your column to “Michevellie,” “Michelle Fille Macho,” “Muchacha Macho,” “Bad Como a Cadela,” “??????? ???????????.”
The interest is in trying to figure out who you really are. Speculations ranges from a U.S. government misinformation site to a direct alien connection. Some actually believe that their blog answers don’t blog to your site because they go directly to the US government intelligence agencies. While an equal number believe that they go directly to some alien ship information processing center.

Michelle,
I wanted to express my gratitude for your mentioning of my blog a few days back when you printed your interview for the Pakistan Blog. Since that entry I have seen the traffic on my website grow tenfold. The traffic that you have sent my way is much appreciated. I admit, I have been substantially busy as of late and need to get back to my own blog entries for all of these new readers!!
Zen,
I am guessing that your traffic as increased as well, as your blog was mentioned too. Did you see an increase in your traffic from Michelle’s mention?
Michelle,
Keep up the great work, my dear!!
