This Again?!

Yes, unfortunately this again.
Good morning!
This write is from ThinkProgress. It seems the GOP doesn’t think when it comes to women and progress. All they ever do is show us their sick misogynistic manner by taking steps that try to regress women back into the Stone Age.
GOP War on Women Heats Up
It never really ended, but the GOP’s war on women is definitely back and more misogynistic than ever. Let’s go through a few things that have happened just in the past week:
- House of Representatives to consider unconstitutional abortion ban: Today the House Judiciary Committee, whose 23 Republican members are all men, approved an unconstitutional ban on abortion after 20 weeks. The measure, championed by Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ), is similar to one enacted in his home state of Arizona that was recently found unconstitutional by a federal appeals court. Franks’ present effort would apply nationwide, which is more aggressive than previous years when he only sought to force a 20-week ban on the women of the District of Columbia. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) has promised that the full House will vote on it next week.
- Congressman revives Akin-like rape talk: During today’s markup of the aforementioned abortion ban, Rep. Trent Franks made comments echoing Todd Akin’s infamous “legitimate rape” remarks. Franks, who defended Akin at the time he made those remarks, explained today that the incidence of pregnancy from rape is “very low.” There are approximately 30,000 pregnancies resulting from rape every year in the United States.
- GOP governor revives forced ultrasounds: Gov. Scott Walker (R-WI) became the latest Republican governor to embrace forced transvaginal probes for women seeking to exercise their constitutionally-protected right to have an abortion. In addition to forced ultrasounds, the legislation Walker has promised to sign would also close abortion clinics across the Badger State.
- Senators suggest offensive explanations for military sexual assault crisis: Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) blamed the growing problem of military sexual assault on “the hormone level created by nature.” His colleague, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), instead suggested that perhaps pornography is to blame.
- GOP governor attacks working mothers: Gov. Phil Bryant (R-MS) was asked to explain why the American education system “so mediocre.” Bryant responded that working mothers were to blame. This came just days after several Fox News commentatorslost their minds over the record number of women who are the primary breadwinners in their household.
BOTTOM LINE: Republicans didn’t learn a single lesson from their string of outrageous attacks on women last year and instead appear to be doubling down on their extreme views and offensive legislative proposals.

Additionally, in the same vein, this was on the Chris Hayes show on MSNBC last night:

Right on Chris.
Readers: The republicans will never learn. They have no intention of being supporters of women. My question is, “When will the women learn and stop voting these men in?” THAT is when change will happen.
On an up note…I’m delighted everyone loved the ladies yesterday.
Thanks for reading. Blog me. Peace out.

I remember Watergate, August and September 1974, when EVERYONE was saying that the Republican Party, and all that it stood for, was dead. “Peanuts” lasted one shaky term, and Reagan emerged from the supposedly dead entrails.
I remember the Democratic sweep, and the news footage of a gloating Nancy Pelosi urging her Democratic colleagues: “Let’s make history!”
We have not found the cure for this disease, it will eventually mutate into something that feeds off the very antibiotics designed to kill it. It has already mastered gerrymandering and voter suppression and dilution as immediate survival strategies. We can dislocate our shoulders by patting ourselves on the back too hard, or too soon.

There are Republicans who hate so much their party stands for, and agree with more of the Dem platform than they realize, but just can’t bring themselves to vote for a Dem.
However they did it and keep doing it, the GOp does a great job fearmongering their base into thinking voting for a Dem is a gateway drug into giving America to our enemy du jour and starting the Apocalypse (which I thought they wanted so they could be raptured, I guess they don’t like their odds, whatever…).
Which is not to say the Dems are all peaches and cream either. But its Republican policies that do more damage to this country and they’re great at making it look like it’s the fault of the left and the rubes fall for it enough of the time that we can’t make significant strides of progress.

“We have not found the cure for this disease,”
We know what it is! It’s money. Campaign finance reform needs to happen….and radically. But instead we get a new mutated virus: Citizen’s United.

All these fundamentalist scum know all they have to do is confess their sins and their Loving Lord Jeebus will forgive them because they are “born again.”
The rest of us? Not so much, since we are “the anti-Christians.”

Ah yes the church rises from the ashes. Our forefathers ran from this type of religious rule and …it’s baaaack.

Albert, You hit the nail on the head. I believe in a two party system but the Republicans keep wanting to pull the nails out of the Democratic planks. I fear there are so many stupid people, who believe the rhetoric of the GOP, they will vote for anything, as long as it carries a Bible.
People who blindly follow the likes of Mitt Romney or Paul Ryan scare the devil out of me. I do not need religion to reject Satan, all I have to do is, listen to FOX or read some of these posts.
When it comes to freedoms, the Republicans want the control to tell which Constitutional Amendments to accept and which one to reject.
What ever happened to separation of church and state? And why does the NRA get to interpret the First Amendment?
If education is not made a priority, we may as well, give the land back to the Indians. They did a better job at tending to the country than we have. Their only problem is, they were willing to host, the pilgrims because they believed, the pilgrims were, as honest as they were.
There is a saying. I hate to quote the Bible but, the saying goes, “The meek shall inherit the Earth.” It should have had an addendum. That is, if there is any Earth left, to inherit!’
June 13th, 2013 at 2:22 pm
I don’t think that that is quite true. Our forefathers wanted to find a place where they could impose their own brand of religious rule. My thirteen-times great grandfather was flogged, jailed, and sent into exile (in midwinter) by the leaders of the Massachusetts Bay Colony for religious dissent.

Judy, there’s another Biblical quote worth remembering: “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”
There’s also the less Biblical but no less true Mencken quote No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.”
And let’s not forget “You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.”
Republicans don’t care if they fool you. In fact, they seem to like knowing you know when they’ve screwed you, if you’re not a part of their base. All they care about is fooling enough people with B.S, to be able to claim they won 50% plus 1 of any given election. If Election 2000 taught us anything, it should be that. We can never assume the electorate is on our side even when in the abstract they agree with much of the Dem platform. because the GOP has done such a fantastic job demonizing the Dem/lib/prog movement, there are millions of people willing to march lockstep to vote Republican even while GOP policies keep them broke stupid and sick.
Never assume you can stick a fork in the Republican Party. Never assume this time they’re dead for good. Never assume they can’t BS their way out of a scandal or a crisis. because that’s ALL they’re good at doing.
And if they can’t BS their way out of a scandal or crisis, they’ll just make it harder to vote, and invest energy into thinking the Dems are just as bad if not worse so you’ll choose not to vote anyway. Whatever works.
Never forget this.

The Republicans use Obama approval ratings as their main barometer. These numbers are going down because of the gridlock and bogus scandals. Same thing happened when they held the countries credit rating hostage, Obamas numbers were hurt badly.
What a rational person sees as insanity, they see as a positive. Nobody will ever be able to control these folks until they get over hating on Obama as the end-all. They had so much success in 2010 doing this there is no way they feel the need to adjust.
June 13th, 2013 at 2:35 pm
Republicans were never interested in adapting their views to a changing electorate. They’ve tended toward Frank Luntz-style makeovers: changing the language they use to talk about things, rather than changing the things (policy positions) themselves.
They believe what they believe. No matter how careful they try to be, there will be slips of the tongue. Their extreme views will eventually show through to betray their efforts at “rebranding.”
If it looks like a duck, etc., you can call it a swan–but it’s still a duck. And anybody who’s paying even the slightest bit of attention can see what it is.
June 13th, 2013 at 2:35 pm
They’ll get over Obama by 2018. That won’t change much since they hate Hillary Clinton about as much as Obama, and either after she retires from office or if she doesn’t run, they’ll find reasons to hate any Democrat in the White Elephant House because, after all, Saint Ronald promised them permanent majorities.

Now the republicans are putting up a vote in the House to make all abortions illegal after 20 weeks. Who are the white women voting for these misogynists?

I want that hot body on mine so desperately it is simply impossible to express in mere words.
