Obamacare Is Working For Women
Posted by Michelle Moquin on December 11th, 2013
Good morning!
One can only imagine what women’s health care would look like if the GOP were in charge. I don’t want to go there this morning. I am just so grateful that we have a president who cares about women and our health by making affordable health care available so that we can make the right choices for ourselves. Thank you president Obama.
Another good write from Think Progress:
Thanks To Obamacare, The Number Of Women Who Aren’t Charged For Birth Control Has Jumped 25 Percent
Under Obamacare, privately insured women are increasingly accessing contraceptive services without paying an additional co-pay, according to a new study from the Guttmacher Institute. The study’s authors point out that their data proves there’s a real demand for affordable birth control among U.S. women.
The researchers surveyed data from women between the ages of 18 and 39, comparing the co-pays they paid for their birth control method before and after Obamacare’s contraceptive coverage requirement took effect for most insurance plans. Between those two time periods, they saw a sharp increase in the number of women who had no out-of-pocket costs for their birth control pills, jumping from just 15 percent to 40 percent. There was a similar increase among women using the vaginal ring, from 23 percent to 52 percent:

CREDIT: GUTTMACHER INSTIUTUTE
In August, the Health and Human Services Department estimated that 27 million women had already gained access to this contraceptive coverage. But that didn’t reveal how many people were actually taking advantage of this benefit. The Guttmacher researchers point out that, considering the dramatic uptick in the number of women paying no out-of-pocket costs for contraception, it’s clear that it’s being put to good use.
“Our analysis provides the first quantitative evidence that the cost-sharing protection under the ACA is indeed working as intended,” Lawrence B. Finer, the lead author of the study, noted in a statement. “Large numbers of women who couldn’t previously do so are now obtaining birth control without co-pays or deductibles, which allows them to more easily attain contraception’s well-documented health, social and economic benefits.”
And the researchers point out that this trend is only likely to continue, as more insurance plans lose their “grandfathered” status and adopt Obamacare’s new coverage requirements. But there’s still somewhat of a public awareness gap. Most women don’t actually realize that the health law’s contraceptive provision is in effect, or don’t understand exactly what types of services are covered. Furthermore, some insurance companies are still charging co-pays for services that the law now requires them to fully cover, a mistake that muddies the waters even further.
It’s important to note that Obamacare’s birth control provision doesn’t mean these women are getting “free birth control,” even though that’s a common tropeamong conservative opponents to the law. These women are accessing birth control through their private, employer-sponsored health insurance policies — in other words, it’s a benefit that’s directly tied to their job. Women do pay for the benefits that are included in those insurance plans, both by working for their employer and by paying a monthly premium. Under Obamacare, they simply don’t have to pay an additional out-of-pocket cost for the benefits that are specific to their gender.
The long-term societal benefits of providing women with access to affordable contraception have been well-documented. Nonetheless, controversy over this aspect of the health reform law hasn’t abated. Right-wing lawmakers continuallypush to repeal this provision, and the Supreme Court recently agreed to take up a court challenge against it.

Hafa adai, I left San Francisco a few days ago. Man weed is legal there if you have a medical marijuana card.
I hear we may get that here too. Loving it! I support bill 215.

Hafa adai, Valerie, I read this about the attack.
==============================
Concerned about gang violence, U.S. military leaders on Guam are considering a return to “shore patrols” on liberty nights following attacks in which deployed Marines and sailors were beaten with baseball bats, pipes, clubs and fists.
The military police would team with local police officers to provide additional security while troops are out on the island, according to a statement by officials at Joint Region Marianas, the Navy-Air Force installation on Guam.
Military leaders are also urging Marines and sailors to take their personal safety seriously, suggesting they stay in groups and use alcohol responsibly.
The advice follows a series of attacks in November on Marines and sailors. The Marines are deployed to Guam to participate in Forager Fury II, a military exercise in the Mariana Islands slated to run through Dec. 20.
On Nov. 23, three lance corporals with Marine Aircraft Group 12, based out of Iwakuni, Japan, were assaulted by a group of eight civilians — two adult men and six minors — while on liberty in Tumon, a beach village at the center of Guam’s tourist industry. The attack happened about 9:45 p.m. All sustained minor bruises and lacerations, and were treated that night at the local naval hospital, said Maj. Neal Fisher, a public affairs officer in Guam.
“One of the Marines was punched in the face and knocked to the ground, where he was repeatedly kicked by multiple attackers,” Fisher said. “The other two Marines were attacked with baseball bats, pipes and clubs.”
A week earlier, six sailors were assaulted by a group of about 10 to 12 people around 2 a.m. Those assailants also used bats, clubs and pipes. Most recently, on Nov. 30, a lone sailor was attacked by two people just before midnight. Those attacks also took place in Tumon.
The Guam Police Department arrested eight people allegedly involved on the attack on the Marines on Nov. 28, Fisher said. All are thought to be associated with a local gang called “H-Up Ruckus,” according to the Pacific Daily News.
Duane Marvin Naputi, 18, and Marcus Damian, 19, were charged with two counts of rioting as third-degree felonies, and assault and jurisdiction over an adult as misdemeanors, the Guam newspaper reported. The others arrested were between the ages of 14 and 17.
The three Marines were walking in an area lined with hotels, restaurants and clubs, Fisher said. Naputi said he flashed the peace sign to the men, but then thought they “flicked them off,” the Pacific Daily News reported. They parked, went to find the Marines and asked them if they wanted to fight.
The Marines responded “no,” but one of the men allegedly blindsided a Marine with a punch to the head, knocking him unconscious, and the group then allegedly attacked all three men, punching and kicking them, the newspaper reported.
The group allegedly started another fight later that night, according to the Pacific Daily News, and police say they have evidence that the same men attacked a Korean civilian earlier in the day.
Rear Adm. Tilghman Payne, who oversees military operations in Guam, took to Facebook to express his gratitude to the local authorities for the arrests.
“Your dedication to finding the individuals who allegedly assaulted our service members resulted in several arrests earlier today and made Guam a safer place for everyone to enjoy,” he wrote.
Payne also used Facebook to remind service members in Guam to be mindful of the recent attacks and take extra safety precautions when going out.
He told troops to call 911 if they need assistance because the Guam Police Department has a better chance of apprehending suspects if they know about it right away.
No arrests have been made in the two attacks against the sailors.
Guam police officials downplay the possibility of a gang problem.
“We do have groups of teens and young adults that give themselves gang titles, but they do not exhibit the types of violent gang behavior like we have in the mainland United States,” Officer A.J. Balajadia told the Pacific Daily News.

If this bill is enacted and medicinal marijuana becomes legal on Guam it will no doubt be regulated and run by the local government. (Foxes guarding the chicken coop comes to mind.)
Time and again the local government has proved that it is totally incapable of providing ANY public service honestly and up to 21st century standards and expectations. Just look around. With that said and understood, how can we possibly believe that this (lucrative, and to whom?) service will be any different?
Medicinal marijuana is a good thing in my opinion, but by placing the regulation and administration of the program in the hands of the local government which is rife with greed and corruption will be a BIG mistake.

Guam better get used to an increased Marine presence because I read this on line. Japanese media are reporting that both the House and Senate Armed Services Committees have approved $86 million dollars in funding to transfer Marines from Okinawa to Guam.
That means a whole lot more Marines are headed for Guam.
December 11th, 2013 at 1:17 pm
Hafa adai, that is good news I like the marines. I hear that the police will be getting some back pay. About $10 million in back pay for law enforcement will be paid out this Friday.
Law enforcement personnel, including those at the Guam Police Department, Guam Fire Department, Department of Youth Affairs, Department of Corrections, and Guam Customs and Quarantine Agency, will receive their increments regularly starting with next week Friday’s paycheck.
Their paychecks will be 20 percent bigger beginning next week, the administration said.

Valerie, if we’d of whipped those perps, there’s no doubt in our minds, CMC & his buddies would hang us from the highest flagpole on Guam as an example of PC. Thanks for your support. 3 LCpls

Hafa adai;
Marines do not be a victim…if they start it you finish it….do not listen to leaders that say run or turn other cheek, chances are they have never been in a fight and they have no clue…defend yourself and your buddy…
Marines do not get the hell beat out of them…can’t happen, won’t happen…the local scum is nothing but snakes, if they want a fight bring it to them…be smart, roll with at least 6 Marines out in town and be ready to throw down at all times…
If you think it is safe your wrong….if they bring bats and pipes then you must be ready to take them out…or you will wake up dead!!
December 11th, 2013 at 1:23 pm
As much as it sucks to sat this if Marines start retaliating gangs will fight back harder because they don’t want to be known as weak and Marines are going to start coming home in body bags..
December 11th, 2013 at 1:25 pm
Nick, the gangs are weak that is why they are jumping Marines and sucker punching…they are punks or they would be real tough guys and get jobs and take care of the kids they so proudly produce….
These punks are just like every other POS gang member ..no courage and a bunch of excuses to continue to be non productive citizens…Marines must fight back or it will endanger us all.
December 11th, 2013 at 1:26 pm
Sounds like the Marines on Guam need some Dungaree liberty. That would take care of the thugs.
December 11th, 2013 at 1:27 pm
Hafa adai, So much for that cop par raise. A ten year police officer on Guam makes less hourly on overtime pay then a starting police officer in regular pay in Honolulu.

His brown eyes look at her with love
His faithfulness is without question;
He’s at her every beck and call,
For anything she might mention.
He sees a beauty no one else can see
In the wrinkles andd gnarled hands;
Tho she may not see as well as she did
And is slower to fill his demads.
He listens for her faltering footsteps,
The sound of her weakening voice;
Her return from a routine shopping trip
Is more than just cause to rejoice.
Ohers label him vicious and cruel,
Before him they cringe and pale;
For them he has nothing but contempt,
But for her – a wag of the tail.

Maximize Niacinamide’s Effect on Joint Mobility and Osteoarthritis
by Dr. David Williams
Early studies have documented that everyone past the age of 20 has some degree of degenerative changes taking place in the cartilage lining their joints-even if they don’t notice any pain or stiffness yet.
The damage is simply the result of wear-and-tear on the joints. And it stands to reason that individuals who have subjected their joints to more trauma will exhibit more damage. By the age of 40, 90% of the population have definite signs of wear-and-tear arthritis that can be demonstrated by X-ray.
Even at this point, the majority of these people will still not experience any of the characteristic arthritic symptoms, such as joint pain, stiffness or immobility.
If you live long enough, you will experience symptoms of arthritis. Fortunately, niacinamide can go a long way in both preventing and minimizing arthritic joints.
Niacinamide Triggers Permanent Joint Repair
After several months on niacinamide arthritic patients who were unable to raise their arms above shoulder level before treatment were easily able to raise their arms over their head.
What makes these cases even more remarkable is that these patients also reported a decrease in joint pain and inflammation. Niacinamide is not considered an anti-inflammatory compound or analgesic.
Apparently, it is niacinamide’s ability to trigger actual repair of the joint surfaces that leads to the dramatic reduction in pain and inflammation. Considering all the side effects and risks associated with anti-inflammatory drugs like prednisone and cortisone, niacinamide is a welcome alternative.
These Five Factors Help Maximize Its Effect
1) Adequate protein is necessary for joint repair. Cartilage is high in protein, and without an adequate intake of protein, repair can’t take place. That is why I suggest you take a protein powder supplement if you suffer from arthritis.
There are dozens of other protein products on the market, made from everything from eggs to blue-green algae. While there’s nothing wrong with these products, if you’re older keep in mind that it can be difficult to digest some of their ingredients.
The whey-based protein I’ve recommended seems to be easily digested by almost everyone, without the need for additional digestive enzymes.
2) All the B vitamins work in conjunction with each other. Therefore, you can expect better results if you take niacinamide along with a good multivitamin containing a broad balance of B vitamins.
3) Don’t expect a joint to heal properly if it is continually being traumatized by repetitive use or abuse. Arthritis in the knee joint won’t heal, for example, if one continues to jog or bang on a carpet stretcher, if that happens to be your line of work.
Obesity also creates constant trauma to the weight-bearing joints. One way to minimize routine joint pressure is by wearing shoes with thick, shock-absorbing soles and swimming for exercise.
4) Niacinamide must be taken at very regular intervals during the day to be effective because it is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream and the central nervous system. It also clears from the body quite rapidly.
The recommended dosage of niacinamide is 250 milligrams every three hours for six dosages. This adds up to a total of 1,500 milligrams of niacinamide a day, taken over an 18-hour period.
For severe joint dysfunction, the recommended dosage is 250 milligrams every two hours for eight dosages. This adds up to a total of 2,000 milligrams a day, taken over a 16-hour period.
For extremely severe joint dysfunction, the recommended dosage is 250 milligrams every one-and-a-half hours for 10 doses, making a total of 2,500 milligrams a day. (In these cases the dosage may be even increased to 250 milligrams every hour for 16 hours, for a total of 4,000 milligrams a day.)
It is important to note here that the intervals mentioned above must be adhered to, and not just the daily dosage amounts.
Now it’s your turn: What has been your experience taking niacinamide for bone and joint care?

Howie, I and my team owe our lives to you. We patrol the Jerusalem-Hebron route. We would have been killed or maimed by an IED if not for an arab woman who approached me and said “do you know Howie?”
I smiled and said you read Michelle’s blog. She nodded and said don’t go down there it has been mined, there are 4 men on the __________ ready to detonate it when you and your patrol arrives.
I let her through against the advice of my comrades. Then I told them what she said. We alerted Command and they assisted us in engaging the 4 men and we exploded the device.

I am writing this to tell everyone out there to be careful about the meat you eat and feed your family. My husband was a very big meat eater.
He got sick and was given antibiotics. The bacteria was resistant to them because the animals from the meat he ate were regularly fed those same antibiotics and the bacteria developed a resistant strain that the antibiotics couldn’t kill. So my husband died.
Fuck the republicans for preventing the FDA from stopping the farmers use of antibiotics to fatten their fucking animals.

That was a mistake on our part. The members that survived (at the time we felt it necessary not to mention that there were 3 survivors.) healed rather quicker than we anticipated.
We were not familiar with the species so we could not be sure of their recuperative abilities. Hence we did not suspect the quick recovery they experienced.
We kept them in the usual isolation vats for 21 sycs. When released they worked exceptionally well with all they worked with. It seemed that most who worked with them became very attached to their company.
7 syc back we made contact with a vessel Commanded by a TAO. He recognized the beings as Gnzls. They are predators that feed upon their prey assuming their form until there is nothing left of the original being.
In the Jng’s case they had been eaten to a being. Afterwards the Gnzls were floating aboard the Jng vessel without the ability to pilot it.
They eventually became exhausted from hunger. Quu says that it is their custom to maintain the appearance of their last meal until the next as a result no record exist describing their true form.
When they can no longer find food they turn on each other and feed. We discovered the remains of that cannibalism. The three that we rescued were now 669 and growing.
Quu helped us, actually saved us form the fate of the Jng. Any who may have gone to salvage that vessel should be checking out their crew. Use )303)314)25 for grim lac vorem.
