Texas man who lost wife and daughter to rich kid drunk driver fuming over sentence
The Texas father whose wife and daughter were killed after being hit by a drunk driver criticized Tuesday’s probation ruling sparing the teen repeat offender responsible from prison time because of his rich upbringing.
“For 25 weeks, I’ve been going through a healing process,” Eric Boyles told CNN host Anderson Cooper Wednesday night. “And so when the verdict came out, I mean, my immediate reaction is, I’m back to Week 1. We have accomplished nothing here. My healing process is out the window.”
Boyle’s wife and daughter, Hollie and Shelby Boyles, along with two other people, were killed on June 15 when 16-year-old Ethan Couch’s pickup slammed into them while they were trying to help a stranded motorist. Couch’s blood-alcohol level was measured at the time at 0.24, more than three times the adult limit. Another victim was left paralyzed and one more suffered broken bones and internal injuries.
But while not disputing that Couch had broken the law by drinking as a minor and driving under the influence, a psychologist testifying on his behalf argued that he had developed a condition called “affluenza” because his family’s wealth had led him to grow up with a feeling of entitlement.
District Judge Jean Boyd refused to honor prosecutors’ call for a 20-year jail sentence for the teen, instead ordering him to seek long-term behavior therapy away from his parents. Cooper said during the interview that Boyd was, in effect, sending Couch to “a spa” and referred to him at one point as a “criminal.”
“That’s the incredible thing,” Cooper said to Boyles. “He has prior experiences with alcohol and the law. This is not his first offense. So you have a multiple offender who has killed four people who is not going to spend any time in jail — simply because, it seems to me, his family has money.”
“There are absolutely no consequences for what occurred that day,” Boyles responded. “The primary message has to absolutely be that money and privilege can’t buy justice in this country, that it’s not okay to drink and drive and kill four people, and severely injure another, and not have any consequences. That’s not the American dream that we grew up to participate in.”

Readers: This verdict is just too sickening. And it’s sending the wrong message to rich kids. Who came up with the term Affluenza? Here is the definition: affluenza |ˌafloōˈenzə|nouna psychological malaise supposedly affecting wealthy young people, symptoms of which include a lack of motivation, feelings of guilt, and a sense of isolation.
Notice the word “supposedly” is thrown into the definition? They can’t even make the definition definitive, yet a psychologist can use it in defense.
What about some poor people who feel they don’t have much opportunity in their lives and they turn into alcoholics because of a lack of motivation, perhaps have feelings of guilt of not being able to give their children a better life, and a sense of isolation from society who recognizes and rewards the successful? Can they too claim this psychological malaise, or is it only an excuse for the wealthy?

Let me see if I’ve got this straight. You can get away with quadruple homicide by saying you didn’t understand the consequences of your actions because you’re rich and now the court decides the best course of action is to continue to teach you that same messed up principle? UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

I woke this morning with 14 urgent phone calls from ZL/MM fan club on Guam. I got messages, emails, and texts all calling for a emergency meeting to discuss my success in ferreting out the truth from Michelle.
I was dumb founded as I had not tried to ferret out any “truth” from Michelle. But I called meeting anyway because it is TGIF here on Guam and what better way to start the weekend than throwing back a few with girlz and discussing our favorite topic “IS ZEN LILL A PERSONALITY OF MICHELLE????????????
The opening began with congratulations to me for getting you so flustered that you got your character Zen Lill to admit not once, but twice that she was made up, just a character you use to exhibit another way of looking at an issue in the news.
After reading your character Zen Lill’s response to Brittany, I’ll have to admit you were busted big time. At first I though that Zen Lill just mixed up the Brittanys because she Zilled it, but as I read on I saw what my pards were shouting about.
They were saying that Michelle, in your haste to throw us off you answered, you forgot that you were Zen Lill and answered for yourself. 18. Zambi Says: December 11th, 2013 at 8:28 am “Michelle, as much as I want to comment on your topic, this one about Anonz is raging in my circles. Is he and Zen Lill still an item or what?”
I am sure it was not lost on those who have had their doubts that this was a major character slip. As my girlz keep insisting the only way Zen Lill would know what Michelle is thinking is if she is Michelle, BUSTED!
I still wanted to doubt so I played Devil’s advocate and argued that You were answering Michelle’s question for yourself, or you mistook who it was addressed to like the mistake you made with the two different Brittanys.
But then they said okay give her that slip, but what about this one to you. Where Zen Lill openly admits that both of them Zen Lill and Michelle, “….we won’t be seen side by side)”
I thought about it. Why would Zen Lill say that, even though she preferences it with “…it’s likely” I mean you two are very good friends. If you are NOT one and the same it would be more likely than not that you would be seen together.
That is unless, you are one and the same. So Zen Lill, Michelle, It’s been fun, I have to admit I enjoyed the charades. It was excellently played.
I swear you had me fooled. I couldn’t believe that you would enjoy some of the concepts about men that Zen Lill did. In that character you were decidedly more understanding of the male position.
Also, you could talk that trash with the best of them, I bet Doug was laughing while you stirred us up with all those juicy escapades of Zen Lill. I liked the irreverent blond touch. Speaking of which, who was the model, she’s a cutie pie, but then you would pick something as beautiful as you are.
No, sweat, I know that you aren’t going to tell us, I will post more later but I want Guam to get the credit for outing you.

Sorry Brittany, didnt realize there were two if you. I meant the one who stated that MM had the inside track w Anonz bc that Brittany is correct.
Anna of Guam, nice try but no I’m myself. Michelle and Anonz didnt find it at all important to check in with me to see if I wanted to be part of their bullshit story. So they are both LSOS’s and as far as calling out everyone else for lying try looking in the mirror. I may have gone along with it if MM or Anonz or one of his handlers esp a female one had fucking ASKED. But no, no one bothered to check in with me. So the reason we won’t be seen side by side is bc I don’t want a friend who would do that. Period. If telling the truth is so important than do it. (And this is from a woman who is for other women) Keep up the good work of calling out atrocities around the globe, that’s important, but your own backyard could use work.
