Good morning!

From CNN:

Republican Party goes round the bend

Editor’s note: Sally Kohn is a progressive activist, columnist and television commentator. Follow her on Twitter @sallykohn. The opinions expressed in this commentary are solely those of the author.

(CNN) – In the beginning, one might have considered it bold — even inventive — to oppose every single thing President Obama supported.

But it quickly became tiresome and predictable over the last five years. And now, as House Republicans weigh a resolution to sue President Obama for not quickly enough implementing a law the same Republicans voted more than 50 times to repeal or stall, all hell has broken loose.

Republicans are just being obnoxious now. And dangerous. And nuts.

On Wednesday, the House Rules Committee will debate a draft resolution to file a lawsuit against President Obama, wasting taxpayer dollars in what is plainly a political stunt.

Their complaint? That President Obama did not implement the employer mandate in Obamacare quickly enough. That’s right, that same employer mandate Republicans have berated Obama for, the one in the health care reform law they’vevoted 54 (failed) times to try to repeal or delay or stall – the law, incidentally, that’s working – House Republicans are now using taxpayer money to sue President Obama for not implementing it quickly enough. Yeah.

Readers: I’m going to interrupt here. Did you catch that? Let me repeat: House Republicans are now using taxpayer money to sue President Obama for not implementing it quickly enough.

Meanwhile, at least Republicans aren’t going full-political-stunt and impeaching President Obama … yet. Sarah Palin has thrown her constitutional-scholar-like support behind the idea. Though as Attorney General Eric Holder said of Palin this weekend: “She wasn’t a particularly good vice presidential candidate. She’s an even worse judge of who ought to be impeached and why.”

Republicans bash President Obama for issuing executive orders. But why should facts like the Constitution or how every president in history has used executive orders, and in most cases more than President Obama, stand in the way of a good partisan line of attack, let alone a political stunt? Facts and proportionality certainly haven’t been a barrier for Republicans so far.

For instance, also within the last week, conservative talk radio host Ben Shapiro said on Fox News that the Obama White House is a “borderline Jew-hating administration.”

Republicans had long criticized the President as anti-Israel. For instance, the Romney campaign ran a commercial criticizing Obama for not visiting Israel during the first three-and-a-half years of his presidency, and conservative pundit Mark Levin accused President Obama of “hating Israel.”

But suggesting the White House and by, er, obvious implication President Obama, hates Jews is a whole new level of accusation. It’s also a whole new level of crazy neglect of basic facts.

President Obama has increased security assistance to Israel every single year since taking office and Obama personally championed providing an additional $275 million over its standard foreign military financing aid in order to fund the construction of the so-called “Iron Dome” defense system.”

But facts, schmacts. Republican smears against Obama are even more impervious than the Iron Dome. No logic or reason can pierce their facade of BS.

Witness Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn, who last week calledPresident Obama “tone deaf” for not visiting the border during his trip to Texas. Texas Gov. Rick Perry also dinged the President along these lines: “The President needs to come to the border, to see it himself.” For his part, President Obama said, “I’m not interested in photo ops, I’m interested in solving a problem.” Which sounds almost like Obama is quoting Cornyn and Perry … back in 2011.

Then, when pressing Congress to pass immigration reform, President Obama went to the border and … Republicans criticized him for doing so.

“What Sen. Cornyn is looking for, President Obama cannot deliver with another speech or photo op, and that’s presidential leadership. Words matter little when there is no action,” a Cornyn spokesperson said at the time. Similarly, in 2011, Perry criticized Obama’s trip to the border, “I was very disheartened when the President came into El Paso a couple of weeks ago (and) had a photo-op.”

In case you’re not good at math, that’s Republicans criticizing President Obama for doing something and then — just three years later — criticizing him for not doing the same thing. Try as you might, there’s just no way to rationalize the difference. Republicans damn President Obama he does it and damned if he doesn’t.

But if you still believe in facts, here’s something for you: Republicans crashed our nation’s economy with their astronomical tax cuts, lax oversight of business and unfunded wars.

But instead of facing the truth and re-examining how their policies systematically harm our nation, Republicans just attack and blame President Obama. They simply don’t know what else to do.

That’s not so say President Obama never does anything wrong or doesn’t sometimes deserve blame. Of course he does and we should have political checks and balances.

But while blaming and condemning President Obama has been Republicans’ sole strategy since the moment he was elected, they’ve taken that crazy irresponsibility to the next level — including suing the President of the United States of America for doing his job and carefully implementing laws, even the ones Republicans hate. That’s what all presidents do.

Meanwhile, Congress is supposed to work with the President and pass laws. Republicans are the ones who aren’t doing their jobs. They’re too busy spending our money on their partisan revenge stunts and inventing new outlandish attacks against Obama to distract the American people from the giant mess the Republican Party has caused — and not only are they not doing anything to fix it, they have no solutions.

The more irrational and hypocritical the Republican attacks get, the more they’re desperately trying to hide this simple truth.

Readers: Hypocritical repubs doing business as usual.

After watching the Rachel Maddow Show, it seems the Dems are a tickled pink or should I say tickled “blue,” that the repubs are suing Obama.  And they’re trying their best to make sure that everyone knows that the repubs are using taxpayer dollars to sue the president. Alert the media.

And guess what? You’re not going to find out how much it is costing weekly to sue the president because the repubs voted “no” to amendments that would inform you. Alert the media.

Oh…and there’s more. Each amendment the Dems addressed, each got a “no” vote from the repubs. No surprise. Alert the media.

So…Just why is this good news and bringing smiles to the Dem’s faces?

Watch the video.

In the beginning, one might have considered it bold — even inventive — to oppose every single thing President Obama supported.

Defeating every aspect of Obama’s extreme left-wing anti-American agenda remains critical to any change our nation has of surviving and recovering its former strength, status and freedom.

  2. Jean Says:

Vet#1, I see you used the word “bold”, for me the word stupid comes to mind. Opposing “everything” means they are not doing based on evaluating whether it would be good or bad for the people just on the color of his skin.

But then “vet” you know that.

  3. Vet Says:

Leftists live for wasting taxpayer dollars.

  4. Alice Says:

Vet#2, I see you are up on your fox fake facts. Try googling what party has spend the most taxpayers money. It isn’t even close.

Republicans waste taxpayers money more than 2 o on over Dems. Look at which states are the welfare states. The Red states hold that dubious honor almost exclusively.

  5. Vet Says:

Republicans are Obama is just being obnoxious now. And dangerous. And nuts.

  6. Anonymous Says:

Being in opposition to the Democratic President of the United States all the time and then going on to spend citizen (the people’s) money in their opposition to him is ludicrous, costly, and irrational.

At a time when the country deserves hard work and much better from Republicans we are getting only this! Kick Them OUT! Clean Sweep!

  7. Wanda Says:

Why do republicans always want to make being “Liberal” a dirty word?

    __________________
“If by a “Liberal” they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people-their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights and their civil liberties-someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a “Liberal”, then I’m proud to say I’m a “Liberal.” ― John F. Kennedy

  8. Harry Says:

You people on this blog lowrate Bush. Lol. Never mind that O has surpassed bush in six years.

  9. Jack Says:

Anon#6, Just another commie opinion, and deserves zero consideration

  10. Peter of Guam Says:

Harry#8, LOL is right! He certainly HAS surpassed Bush in Ability, Hard Work, and Determination to the advantage of the American people that is.

  11. Tom Says:

Anon#6, When you have a very large portion of the population that opposes the president and his agenda, you get what is happening.do you conveniently forget what happened in the 2010 midterms??

Your rather self center view limits your ability to see whats real and whats just got your panties wadded.

  12. Lance Says:

Oh yeah, an editorial by a left wing homosexual activist regarding republican majority in congress. Anybody think it will be fair and balanced? Barry Hussein spends more money on his campaign trips and golfing jaunts and vacations for his wife and family than congressional spending.

  13. Charles Says:

Michelle you think this article could explain why my republicans could win the Senate and still have a big majority in the house.

  14. Anonymous Says:

The Republicans will have a good chance of picking up the Senate without an anti-Democratic wave. There are so many Democratic-held seats up for grabs in red and purple states this year that the G.O.P. could take the Senate under neutral conditions.

Candidates like Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and Kay Hagan of North Carolina, for instance, won by modest margins in 2008, even though it was an excellent year for Democrats and even though they were bolstered by huge black turnout.

But if a wave doesn’t materialize, and if Republicans don’t post victories in Democratic-tilting states like Iowa or Colorado, it will be hard to consider 2014 a great year for Republicans. That will be true even if they take the Senate by taking advantage of a favorable map.

The Republicans don’t need more evidence of their ability to win with low Democratic turnout in states like Louisiana and Alaska heading into 2016. Fortunately for the G.O.P., there are still more than three months to go.

  15. Inrid Says:

If you are going to help dems hold the Senate Michelle you need to help this Senator in Alaska. Begich, is among the most vulnerable Democrats this cycle.

  16. Inrid Says:

AK#30 Says: July 25th, 2014 at 10:02 am, Actually yes. Should Hamas fighters become immune because they use human shields? That is a tactic that can not be allowed to succeed.

Actually in my opinion the extreme reluctance of Israel to harm civiilians is in the long run a grave disservice to those civilians.

If Israel would destroy enemy fighters even if they were hiding behind human shields, there would soon be no reason for Hamas to continue to use human shields.

  17. Al Says:

Michelle: The nerve of the GOP and their latest stunt. Their assumption that every citizen in the nation is as moronic as most of the GOP. Do they really believe that nobody is keeping an eye on them, that they can get away with this bullshit without anybody being wiser?

Do they think the entire American Public is as foolish as say Mitt Romney or Sarah Palin. Of course with a S.T.A.R.K. raving insane SCOTUS, the GOP can get away with almost anything. But do they really think that we don’t know about how corrupt, illegal, and dishonest they are? And that we don’t know about their treason filled attack on the US Constitution?

When all hell breaks lose, and it looks like it will, the shit is going to hit the fan like never before. How much more BS does the GOP think the Country will take? Something has got to give, the camel’s back is near it’s limit. Things are highly volatile right now. Nobody wants to test it by creating the spark.

  18. HOWIE Says:

This must be published for the pulic to read. There is a chance that President Obama will pull something outof his hat. He is working on using Egypt to bring about a truce between Israel and Hamas. He is also preparing to send Israel secretly additional monies and equipment. If Israel can keep the innocent bodies to a minimum, his plans might work.

The Hamas are so happy with the innocent death toll they may begin killing a few themselves to keep the international pressure on Israel.

Putin is devising a plan to put the Israeli army in more jeopardy so that he can force the U.S. to take sides and help save Israel. He is planning on sending advanced payload warheads to the Palestinians capable of long range tank destruction and cluster bombing to take our wide troop paths.

Publishing this in advance may halt him since if it occurs, everyone will know where the armaments came from.

    HOWIE

  19. Dafne Says:

One thing is certain: Israel tries to avoid civilian casualties while Hamas is purposely targeting civilians.

  20. Ethel Says:

I am SO SICK of men and their misogyny!

ESPN’s Stephen Smith was discussing the two-game suspension of Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice who knocked his then-fiance unconscious during an altercation in an elevator at a Las Vegas hotel.

Reports still say “Allegedly” but according to Sports Illustrated’s Robert Klemko, police have surveillance video Ray Rice striking fiancée Janay Palmer at Revel Casino in Atlantic City on Saturday. They are only releasing what happened after the elevator doors opened. One witness told Deadspin that Rice threw an “uppercut,” while another said he hit Palmer “like he [would punch] a guy.” (here’s the video after the event: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/video/news/video-1084156/NFL-star-Ray-Rice-drags-unconscious-fiancee-elevator-after-fight.html)

The sparse police summons says only that Rice is accused of “striking her with his hand, rendering her unconscious.” (Palmer’s summons reads the same, minus the unconsciousness.) Neither requested medical attention, but both were arrested and charged with simple assault.

Stephen Smith says he has always encouraged “female members of [his] family” to make sure “we don’t do anything to provoke wrong actions.” Smith goes on to say that women need to “do [their] part in making sure that [violence] doesn’t happen.”

Why is a man punching a woman considered “simple” assault? I’ll tell you: it’s the rape culture. It’s just SICK!

If Aliens want to cull the herd, please start with these deadbeat men! I’d gladly give you a list of them, if you just ask.

  21. Zen Lill Says:

Ethel, that video is crappy quality but there’s no doubt about it, inebriated or not, she was out cold and he dragged her out caveman style
(he’s a freaking big man and could’ve carried her) …
if she was just done in by alcohol he would’ve been carrying her like a man who cared, he’s culled …
Let’s cull em as we call em’ – don’t care how they ‘disappear’ they’re not serving any good purpose to humanity down here – who’s next … ??

1.The sport of choice for the urban poor is BASKETBALL
2 The sport of choice for maintenance level employees is BOWLING.
3 The sport of choice for front-line workers is FOOTBALL.
