Not Just Ray Rice

Good morning!

A few days ago on the 13th of September, VAWA celebrated its 20th anniversary. Football season is here. And yet, it seems there is more talk about the abusive players, and how the NFL is handling them,  than there is about the actual games.

A write from Think Progress.

On The 20th Anniversary Of VAWA, Important Stories On Domestic Violence

Tomorrow marks the 20th anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) – the landmark legislation that was signed into law by President Clinton to provide more institutional resources for domestic violence victims. The anniversary comes at a time when the country is engaged in a national conversation about NFL player Ray Rice, his wife Janay, and the NFL’s responsibility to adequately respond to incidences of domestic abuse within their ranks.

Here’s a rundown of stories related to this issue that you don’t want to miss:

BOTTOM LINE: It shouldn’t have taken a video leaked to the world to make the NFL finally take strong action against Ray Rice. It shouldn’t be forgotten, either, that domestic violence is a problem that extends far beyond the headlines: more than 31 percent of women in the United States have been physically abused by an intimate partner at some point in their lives. And 20 years after the Violence Against Women Act passed Congress, it shouldn’t be forgotten that there is still much more we can do to protect all women from abuse.

*****

Readers: What is going on? The only way that this abuse is going to stop is when women’s health and safety is made a priority and the consequences of the perp’s actions are serious. How much more leeway are men going to get before this is stopped? It’s so simple. Make the laws so detrimental for the dirty deed doers that they will not even consider raising a hand.

But first we need to get politicians in office that will support women. That is the big push. Because as long as the repubs are in control you can kiss that idea goodbye. They have no intention of supporting women.

Ugh…this is so frustrating that our future lies in our own hands and we aren’t taking control. I sure HOPE women get a clue, support their sisters, and do the right thing when the time comes, or this is going to be a never ending conversation and battle to boot.

I know I am not the only one who is sickened by all of this. What’s your thoughts on all that is going on? Blog me.

Robert I: Are you around? It’s been awhile. I HOPE you’re doing good.

Lucy, ST:  I saw the photo and read the write. :)

Gwen, Lacy: So sorry to hear about your mother, and sister. So devastating. “Yes, he looked liked such a nice church-going man. He always gave to the community. Never said anything bad about anyone…always kept to his own business…blah blah blah.” THAT should be the profile to be suspect of. Wishing you and your families peace.

Carol: Yes, Health Info usually gave out great info. I can’t say I know what happened to them but perhaps now that they have been requested, they will come back and post. (hint hint)

Peace out.

  1. Mike, TM Says:

The 2nd tier of the Right are the ones that will never make it into the 1% but are the jackasses forever chasing that carrot put out by the 1% . They make their money by scaring the rest of the greedy republicans below them into thinking they can make a huge profit because of some unknown coming financial disaster.

The idiots believe that the information about the disaster is secretly gather and given to them. That’s how the 2nd tier makes their money. The employ “the financial sky is falling” tactic with the cavort that you can avoid it by investing in this…..

Well the new one is that the Fed is secretly bankrupt and this is what you should do. No doubt it will offer the gullible another gold, silver or some other precious metal investment that will save their money and allow them to be on top of those in the 3rd tier.

  2. Robert I Says:

Michelle, I saw your note to Carol about the Health info. I hope they will vet any health advice given by “Bottom Line Publications.” It has become a right wing infomercial. It’s main goal is to sell the products of anyone who will pay a doctor to advice that the product has a health benefit.

Their second goal is to sneak in a barb at Obama whenever possible.

  3. Joyce Says:

Mike,TM#1, I am happy to see someone out those crooks. My husband buys every scam they send out to him. He is paying to receive Porter Stansberry’s “secret” inside financial information news letter.

I get the same newsletter and it goes to my junk mail. I haven’t told him because he gets such pleasure revealing the “secret” inside financial tips that he loves to pass on to his friends. You should hear him parrot the stuff in those emails.

One would think that he is a CPA and financial mogul. We buy gold, silver, copper and anything else that creep Stansberry advises. Just like you said most of his investment offers are preconditioned with how much we will lose if we don’t get in right away.

10 years later none of his advice has proven to be true. His Obamacare scare was one of the worst. My husband was telling all who would listen that it would bankrupt the country and death would be everywhere. Now he has forgotten that that didn’t come true and he is off parroting some other idiotic dribble by these manipulative clowns.

  4. Paul Says:

The racists with badges are still murdering unarmed black men. In Saratoga Springs, Utah they just murdered a 22 year old, Darrien Hunt.

The police claimed he lunged at him with a sword, but witnesses said that he was running away from a Panda Express when he was shot in the back several times.

Oh the sword was a short toy.

  5. Alice Says:

I saw that but it was brief. The white media isn’t that interested in the murder of a black male by a cop. The big news story is that Cameron Diaz maybe be nude in a new movie.

  6. Lewis Says:

The cops don’t even bother to come up with a good lie anymore. They don’t have to. The white community is satisfied that killing a few will keep them in line or keep them out of their neighborhoods.

We have to start doing as Alycedale advised, kill a few of them.

  7. Nelson Says:

Lewis#6, you or Alycedale may have a point. It was MalcomX that differed from the pacifism of MLK that got us our rights.

White folk will allow their cops to use OTWs as target practice, until we start to retaliate. If justice isn’t, then take it into your hands to get it. Those murdering cops have names.

They will get protection for a while, but I like the expression “Vengeance is a dish best served cold.”

  8. John Says:

“How did we end up in a world where people hold the NFL to a higher standard than Congress when it comes to dealing with moral issues?”

  9. Cynthia Says:

When I saw this it made sense to me.

“Black guy with fake sword walking down street => DEAD.
Black guy with BB gun in Wal-Mart => DEAD.
Black teen with skittles walking down the street => DEAD.

White guy with AR-15 in Chipotle => NO PROBLEM.
White guy with AR-15 in Target => NO PROBLEM.
White doctor with AR-15 at airport => NO PROBLEM.
White teen with shotgun walking down the street => NO PROBLEM.

Do we see a pattern here?”

  10. Kelly Says:

The police of Saratoga Utah, have murdered another black man and we are all supposed to act as if they didn’t.

  11. Kent Says:

Even if the sword was real an independent autopsy requested by the family shows Hunt was shot six times, all from behind.

To me that shows that Hunt was running away. Hunt died from a bullet that hit him square in the back.

  12. Barry Says:

Utah is an open carry state. “Although openly carrying is not illegal, residents of the state are encouraged to be wise about their actions. In Jan. 2011, a 51-year-old man was handcuffed and detained for a few minutes after walking on the sidewalk near Orem’s University Mall with a semi-automatic rifle over his shoulder and carrying a handgun. The man was cited with disorderly conduct. http://www.ksl.com/?sid=23777279
    =============================
So what is the difference from the above incident of a police encounter of a man with a real gun and a person with a sword.

Yeah, the one with the sword has to be fired on because he is black.

  13. Zen Lill Says:

It’s everywhere but why is it so exceptionally high in Tulsa, OK?
    http://www.tulsaworld.com/newshomepage3/tulsa-s-rate-of-women-murdered-by-men-far-outpaces/article_f6b0be5a-04fb-5d5c-b747-de9520fee735.html

Violence that’s escalated to death is way higher than other US cities … (why?)

    - ZL

  14. Tom Says:

The next time you betraying white bitches agree with the negs about us being serial killers, look at this and shut the fuck up.

We hardly had a chance with mothers like you. http://www.rantlifestyle.com/2014/08/05/10-of-the-most-evil-women-in-history/?utm_medium=referral&utm_source=Outbrain&utm_term=Title3#slide25

  15. Jamie Says:

Zen Lill#13, I think it is because the state doesn’t have a mandatory requirement for the DAs to prosecute without the testimony of the female.

If a woman has to testify, then it is more likely she won’t for several reasons. Hence the men continue their behavior knowing the victim won’t press charges.

  16. Peter of Guam Says:

Howie, if the Aliens are saving Guam, they have my thanks. A 7.1 occurred about 25 miles from Guam.

We were lucky that an earthquake so close with such magnitude didn’t do any damage.

    Hafa adai

  17. Lawrence Says:

I am watching President Obama talk about what the US will do for those nations that like us and those that don’t.

He is way different than most of those before him. He refuses to commit America’s military ground troops to the defense of those who have the means to defend deploy their own troops to defend themselves.
