Climate Concerns: The Controversial Keystone XL Pipeline

Good morning!

From Think Progress:

American Indian Tribe Calls Keystone XL Vote An ‘Act Of War’

Indigenous groups from across the US and Canada gathered in DC in April to protest against the Keystone XL pipeline.

As the U.S. Senate prepares to vote this week on a bill to force approval of the controversial Keystone XL pipeline, which the House of Representatives already passed on Friday, American Indian groups who would be directly impacted by the tar sands project are converging on Washington D.C. to voice their opposition.

The Rosebud Sioux Tribe, whose territory in South Dakota lies along the proposed route of the pipeline, released a statement last week calling Congressional approval of the project an “act of war against our people.”

In a call with reporters on Monday, President Cyril Scott of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe vowed to fight back should the pipeline win government approval.

“Did I declare war on the Keystone XL pipeline? Hell yeah, I did,” said Scott. “I pledge my life to stop these people from harming our children and grandchildren and way of life. They will not cross our treaty lands. We have so much to lose here.”

Scott arrives in D.C. on Tuesday and plans to “rattle the doors” on Capitol Hill ahead of the evening vote. He said he hopes to draw special attention to the fact that the pipeline would cross one of North America’s largest fresh water sources, an aquifer that provides water for a full quarter of the nation’s farmland.

“I’m going to talk to every senator and anybody who will talk to me,” he said. “I will tell them, ‘It’s not a matter of if the pipeline will contaminate the Ogallala Aquifer, but when. And if you contaminate the aquifer, we can’t drink, we can’t grow crops. Where are we going to get our water, from Congress?’”

Besides the environmental threat of the pipeline, which Scott called an “atrocity against all humans,” the Rosebud Sioux say the U.S. government has not met its treaty obligations to ask the tribe for approval of projects that cross their territory. “The U.S. government does not consult us,” he said, noting that concerns brought to the Department of Interior and to the Department of State have been so far ignored. “We have a sovereign nation. We have our own constitution and laws here. But they violated my people’s treaty rights once again.”

Scott emphasized that the “war” he is declaring is a legal one, not a physical one. To bolster his tribe’s efforts, he is calling for a meeting of all the tribes in the Great Sioux Nation in the coming weeks. “When I was elected and took my oath of office, I said I would protect the next seven generations,” Scott told reporters. “I have that obligation not only as president, but as a warrior of the tribe.”

Native American activists across the US and Canada have been organizing for years to oppose the Keystone XL pipeline and other fossil fuel projects that threaten their land, air and water. O.J. Semans, a Rosebud Sioux tribal member with the voting rights group Four Directions, credits concern about the pipeline for boosting voting turnout by 5 percent this year compared to the last midterm election. “By participating in the process and electing individuals that understand our culture and protect our sacred land and water, natives can make a difference,” he told ThinkProgress.

But while tribal members make up 9 percent of South Dakota’s population, Semans acknowledged that they’re a constituency often ignored. “A lot of the voters in tribal country became a little upset because candidates don’t come around here until there’s an election,” he said. “They don’t work with us when they’re in office, just when they’re running for office.”

The Senate is scheduled to vote on the Keystone XL pipeline Tuesday evening. Party leaders note that the bill is just 1 vote away from the 60 votes needed to pass. John Thune (R-SD) is one of the sponsors of this week’s Senate bill to build Keystone XL and the state’s senator-elect Mike Rounds (R-SD) is a vocal supporter of the pipeline.

Semans said tribal members opposed to the pipeline have options both inside and outside the political process, including testifying before the state’s public utilities commission “about how destructive it is to our water,” suing the federal government for violating its treaties with tribe, and directly petitioning President Obama to reject the pipeline.

President Obama has suggested, but not confirmed, that he would veto the bill, but even federal approval could be stymied by courts and commissions in the states along the pipeline’s route.

Should all else fail, the Rosebud Sioux and eight other tribes in South Dakota have set up a “Spirit Camp” directly in the proposed path of the pipeline.

“We are using every alternative to protect Mother Earth,” said Semans. “We have been camped there for 6 or 7 months, and will stay until we get this resolved.”

When ThinkProgress asked about the difficulty of maintaining the camp through an abnormally frigid winter, Semans replied: “We’ll survive.”

*****

Readers: The Senate votes on this today. I’m not for it. The pipeline would pump oil from Canada, across American soil, and down into the gulf where it will be sold –  it will have no affect on our gas prices. Yes, the pipline would create jobs but only temporary ones until it is complete. And then only 50 people would be employed permanently. That’s not much job creation.

“If my Republican friends really want to focus on what’s good for the American people in terms of job creation and lower energy costs, we should be engaging in a conversation about what are we doing to produce even more homegrown energy? I’m happy to have that conversation.” – Obama

I feel for and support the Rosebud Sioux. The Rosebud Sioux are not giving up. If you’re against this pipeline too, now is the time to voice your opinion and support the Sioux. They cherish their land and the health of the environment, and their people.

Unfortunately, like so many OTWs, they too are pushed aside and given little time until their votes are needed or until they want something for them…like the land they (whites) gave back to them, after they (whites) stole it from them. So much for a Treaty that really doesn’t mean anything, when it’s not being honored.

What else is new from the repubs? And it isn’t just the repubs. Some Dems are for this too. Sen. Mary Landrieu (D) is facing a re-election runoff against her repub rival in Louisiana in a few weeks. Funny thing is Landrieu is championing a Republican bill written by her Senate runoff rival!

Can it get any more crazy around here? Don’t answer that.

Michelle, thanks for publishing this article. We native americans have no confidence in this bunch of racists that have been elected to the Congress. They are a through back to the time when white men could and did do anything they wanted to native americans.

  2. Lill on Guam Says:

It seems the hackers are everywhere. They just hacked the official web site of Guam.
    ——————————————

A top government official website in Guam has been hacked by people claiming to be a part of the activist hacking group AnonGhost.

A message was posted on the Lieutenant Governor Ray Tenorio’s website calling Mr Tenorio and the Governor “cowards” and asking them to tell President Obama that “Khilafah is very soon”.

A Khilafah or Caliphate is a form of islamic political leadership.
The Governor’s cybersecurity assistant Wil Castro says despite the claim, there has been no validation that AnonGhost is responsible for the hack.

Mr Castro says although no sensitive material was accessed, the attack is alarming.
“It raises the level of awareness. We’re in the midst of a review of the Governor establishing the Cybersecurity Working Group which is an inter-agency working group. We acknowledge the threat, we know that there’s growing concerns relative to cybersecurity and the government is taking proactive steps to build the necessary infrastructure and intellectual capital necessary to address future steps.”

Guam’s Bureau of Statistics was also hacked and the Tongan government has had to repair its Ministry of Infrastructure website because the page was replaced by a AnonGhost graphic.

Alas, all this proves is the world is full of assholes.

That’s the only part of that above article that shows any sense, and he didn’t even have to mention that part where we totally disregard the wishes of the native people and environmentally the land of that region just for FIFTY ongoing jobs…

    Unbelievable …

    Luv, Zen Lill

PS Howie, I respect your right to disclose whatever you wish, though remember we do have lots of cool newbies who will never have access to the archives, I miss that, too, bc I didn’t always cut n paste for my own reading the parts that were historic moments here.

The Keystone Pipeline will help every American. If you buy gasoline or heat your home with gas or oil, this will mean cheaper prices at the pump. We will be less reliant on foreign oil and it will create jobs for our citizens.

Mike Rounds will support the building of the oil pipeline because it is needed. A pipeline was just built between Belle Fourche and Rapid, why wasn’t there a big fight to stop that pipeline? There is a pipeline being built on the northwestern part of the state right now, why isn’t that being picketed?

Keep in mind, Arab oil billionaires are funding much of the opposition to the Keystone pipeline because they know it will reduce their power and revenue.

Read between the lines of those who oppose this important energy pipeline.

  5. Daniel Says:

Michelle, Howie, I missed many years. I am certain that many of us agree with Zen Lill#3. It would be nice to hear again for the first time the stuff they rest of the blog may know.

  6. Peter Says:

Chuck#4, You do realize that oil is going to china and we will never see it and we are putting our aquifer for Canadian profit.

I am not against small pipelines but talk to the people whose land it is going across.

  7. Grant Says:

Rather curious how so many people hang on to this concept of Keystone XL as though this pipeline would ever be built. But then with the like of a Rounds harping on this concept, well of course the blind will follow his ideals.

However, Rounds’ lack of transparency, his misguided responses to his EB5 conflicts, his confusion over which office he is running for, well, Keystone XL can at best be just another of Rounds’ pipe dreams.

Then of course, the Canadian people certainly are not blind to the value of their natural resource either. Once the larger capacity Energy East route is completed, Canada will successfully block any benefit coming this way. With the greater capacity of Energy East, of course if Canada chooses, well the Canadians may place drops along the route, to feed Canadian refineries.

With natural deep water available at the eastern end of Energy East, Canada may simply knock out any US interests, and ship direct to Europe, and the more lucrative expanding Asian countries.

Pipe dreams are like Rounds’ dreams. Energy East will not pull demand from our domestic rails. North Dakota and Montana oil will still travel by rail to destinations the market determines are most feasible. This is not a Rounds vs. Obama issue. Come to think of it, Rounds may be a little confused that this is not a Presidential election.

Keep up your good harping on pipe dreams Mr. Rounds! Keep the misguided farmer and rancher caught up in your tales. The Farmer, the Rancher, the informed Voters of South Dakota see through your pipe dreams, your evasion. The best display of your words is your EB5 Conduct.

    Remember Energy East.

  8. Drew Says:

Howie, I am in the same position Zen Lill#3 is in. I didn’t save your posts back then. I didn’t think I wouldn’t be able to go back and get what I needed. So like her and the rest, I want to hear all about your experiences with Carr again.

  9. Scotty Says:

Peter#6, The oil is going to more than China. China is only one of the many sources that would be getting it. As well, the U.S. may see some of it as well. This is all part of the world market. The Keystone Pipeline alone does not dictate much of anything.

As well, some of the oil would be coming from the Bakken as it’s also hooking up there. So it is a mixture. But I guess you want more daily pollution by the thousands of semis and rail cars hauling it daily. Look it up. Pipelines are generally considered the safest and more environmentally friendly way to transport oil.

There is simply no way to be ‘for the environment’ but then turn the pipeline away and rely on thousands of older more toxic ways of delivery on a daily basis.

The problem is everyone wants to keep using the hundreds of thousands…if not millions of different products that use oil, but they don’t want one of the safest and least polluted ways of delivering it, in their back yard. Go figure. Just like everything else. Remember that the next time a rail car or semi hauling explosive Bakken oil explodes in a town killing countless people and wrecking the environment there. This year alone it’s already happened countless times.

By saying no to the pipeline…some of that blood is on your hands as well. As well as environmental damage.

There are thousands of oil and natural gas pipelines in this country. Stretching for millions of miles. All most working pretty flawlessly. Heck most of us drive over them constantly without a care or worry. Not even knowing they are there. Criss crossing aquifers all the time. Some bigger than others.

You may also want to let Alaska know how dangerous their pipeline is too.

You and others talk about the aquifers…but have said nothing about the increased air pollution from the thousands of semis and rail cars DAILY carrying the oil cross country.

This pipeline would help take some of those off the road and rail system. Which is a better start for the environment than just saying no to the pipeline. And its guaranteed there will be another oil tanker or semi explosion spewing oil everywhere and potentially killing countless lives…before a leak is even detected on the pipeline.

There are so many logical holes with just saying no the the pipeline that you could drive a semi and rail car through those holes.

It’s not all going to China. Some is expected to stay here. Some of that oil is coming from the Bakken as well. And keep in mind, if its stopped…that will just mean more semis and rail cars messing things up. In multiple ways, including the environment.

It’s obvious those against this keep thumping on the same few things…but purposely ignore the benefits of it for their own misguided agenda. Remember that the next time an oil car derails and kills countless people in a town and ruins the environment there. As you helped shoot down the safer and generally more environmentally friendly option.

What good is poisoned water. But what good is poisoned air AND water? Pick your poison.

  10. Sam Says:

Grant#7, And you entirely shot past the point without making a point. Fact is, there is far more support for this than against it. And for good reason.

And as obvious by some of the anti-Keystone Supporters, they once again fail to mention some of that oil is coming from the Bakken as the Keystone hooks up in ND to help carry the Bakken crude as well to the same refinery. But hey, we will preach the environment…yet keep supporting other ways of transporting the oil that are also environmentally more damaging.

We will also keep not mentioning how some of the oil will be staying in the U.S. and transported to multiple other countries. Which WE ALREADY DO. It’s part of the world market. NONE of this is new. But of course none of this is usually talked about by anti-Keystone supporters.

Pick your poison. Because even if it’s not built, that oil is still coming into the US through rail and semi. Now explain to me how much more environmentally friendly and safe they are. Especially as they mingle with our own rail cars and oil semi traffic. And especially since it’s more widely known they are the less safer and less environmentally safer or friendly methods to transport the oil.

I want to save our water! But I’m going to allow the air and land to get toxic instead from it.

  11. HOWIE Says:

Red Line Was Crossed by Jihadists at Jerusalem Synagogue
The synagogue is a place of intimate communion with God, where we strive to understand God’s ultimate perfection and the meaning of our world.
Today that sanctity was desecrated as Jews – in the Holy City of Jerusalem, immersed in morning prayers, were slaughtered in cold blood by Arab Jihadists.

The synagogue held dozens of worshipers at 7 a.m. when the terrorists struck with guns and axes.

Four widows and 24 orphans are now on one street.
We mourn this grossly horrific act of inhumanity.

    Holy War
Perhaps it should not surprise us that terrorists struck our holy place – given that the entire focus of this battle has become Jerusalem and the Temple Mount – the Jews’ most holy site.

Jihadists now realize that Jerusalem – holy to the Jews for 2,000 years before Islam ever existed – is where the big battle is taking place.

It is what PR legend Charley Levine called “Jerusalem Denial Syndrome.” Anyone who doesn’t recognize that jihadists are fighting a “Holy War,” has yet to recognize the true root of this conflict.

    Incitement and Tolerance
Israel is sitting on a Mideast powder keg. Iran is charging toward the nuclear goal line. Egypt Syria and Gaza are some of the 10 existential threats to Israel today.

Palestinian leaders have repeatedly inflamed incitement against Israel. Last week, on official Palestinian Authority TV, officials praised recent terrorists for heeding the call that “Jerusalem needs blood to purify itself of Jews.”

Even in the wake of this horrific Har Nof Synagogue massacre, official Palestinian Authority television showed images of Bethlehem residents handing out candy in support of the attack, and the official Fatah website praised the attack as a “heroic operation” add this to the incessant Rockets fired into Israel and terror at bus stops and peaceful Cafés and suicide bombers with vests strapped on to murder innocent people.

It is living with Barbarians out for blood . . . But today mass murder invades the synagogue . . . A new red line has been crossed.

HOWIE — Taken and edited from Aish Israeli News.

  12. Dfne Says:

Israelis attend the funerals of Aryeh Kupinsky, Cary William Levine, and Avraham Goldberg three of the four people killed in an attack in a synagogue in Jerusalem, Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014. Two Palestinian cousins armed with meat cleavers and a gun stormed a Jerusalem synagogue during morning prayers Tuesday, killing four people in the city’s bloodiest attack in years. Police killed the attackers in a shootout. (AP Photo/Sebastian Scheiner)

Yes, it is so horrible. We wonder if there is a low these murders won’t stoop to. Probably not since the rest of the world seems to look the other way. Israel is basically on its own to defend against these monsters.

Thanks Howe for reminding the world we exist.

  13. Bashir Says:

Dfne#12, just so you know there is reason behind those attacks.

Much of the recent violence stems from Palestinian anger over stepped-up Israeli visits to a contested holy site in Jerusalem, visits that Palestinians see as a provocation. The site — referred to by Jews as the Temple Mount and by Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary — is the most sacred place in Judaism and the third holiest site in Islam.

  14. JT Says:

Responding to Tuesday’s attack, Netanyahu said he had ordered security forces to hit back hard at Palestinians involved in violence against Israelis, and resume the policy of home demolitions, a punitive tactic that has caused much controversy in the past.

Sitting amid the rubble of the al-Shaludi family home demolished early Wednesday, his grandmother said she was proud of his actions.

“No one should feel sorry for us, for our demolished home,” she said, refusing to give her full name for fear of reprisals.

  15. Faarih Says:

There are two sides to every story Dfne#12. The jews are provoking us by secretly trying to gain control of the site, known to Jews as the Temple Mount and to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary.

We will not tolerate that. You jews have already taken Jerusalem as the capitol of Israel. Now you seek to take over our third most holy site. You will all die before that happens.

  16. Duja Says:

Jews, this is the intifada to your attempts to take over our Noble Sanctuary.

  17. Barry Says:

Islam doesn’t recognize freedom of speech or expression for minority religions. thereligionofpeace.com. The Jews should rebuild the Third Temple. They are being blamed for it anyway.

  18. Diana Says:

Dfne#12, Why generalize is such a way. One of the people killed by the terrorists was an Arab policeman who gave his life to save his jewish fellow countrymen.

  19. Scott Says:

Barry#17, I guess the muslims are right that some of the Jews are planning to tear down the Mosque and build a temple. I guess that explains the violence toward the Jewish man that prayed there and this new attack.

  20. Olga Says:

@Scott are you referring to Herod’s joint, the Edomite king over Judea.

  21. Dave Says:

    Everybody quiet now!!!

I’m trying to listen to the outrage from the non-extremist Muslims as they condemn what the rest of us condemns. … (Jeopardy theme plays in background) …

Okay, never mind. The moderate Muslims speak with 1 voice – the voice of silence!!!

  22. Titus Says:

First….My heart goes out to the victims & their loved ones

That being said….I love the fact that Israel destroys the homes of those involved. I would go further if I had my way. Whether on the record or in the shadow…..I think we need to go after their families & loved ones.

Liquidate them! Take credit…don’t take credit……the message would be loud and clear. Maybe some would think twice and reduce the pool of those willing to condemn their loved ones.

Don’t worry about my soul…..”Luci’s” got a cold one waiting for me.

  23. Larry Says:

I agree with you Howie#11, it is so horrific I cant even conjure up words to describe the horrors of this attack, four men brutally butchered, 8 men mutilated (entire limbs were lost!), four families, 4 neighbors all without fathers and husbands, they left behind 24 orphans and four widows.

  24. Jessica Says:

@Bashir# 13, JT#14, Faarih, and Duja#16, are you people crazy? No one was trying to take over your “Noble Sanctuary.” They were praying in their part the “Temple Mont.” The site has been and still is shared by both Jews and Arabs. They were just trying to spread their message of peace.

Peace you assholes. What part of that don’t you homicidal maniacs understand? Do you expect the world to just sit by while you use religion as an excuse to murder the rest of us at will?

It doesn’t matter to you narcissistic men. Whatever you are against: some other person’s religion, women wanting to be free from your tyranny, any difference of opinion, you use your religion as an excuse to murder the opposition or to quiet dissent.

When the world tires of your homicidal bullshit, the days of islam as a power to murder at will will cease .

  26. Theo Says:

Israel regularly uses collective punishment. They turn off the whole water supply to Palestinian neighborhoods in the West Bank so often that every building has to carry an ugly, giant black water tank on the roof. And of course, Israel just shut off access to something like the equivalent of the Muslim’s St. Peter’s Cathedral, through a series of violent raids. Similarly, recent protests in Jerusalem were met with spraying surrounding buildings with what is called “skunk spray,” a noxious liquid that apparently smells like a combination of feces and rotting animal carcass.

These collective punishments are so routine that all Palestinians are regularly being punished for the actions of others. And as the occupying power, it is Israel laying down these rules of the game. Who knows who these killers were or what motivated them. What we know for sure is that at some point they were unjustly punished by the occupying power, and now it appears their families may be as well. Such strange legal logic of Israel breeds such strange Palestinian violence.

  27. VA Says:

I am an arab woman. The men here in Palestine are constantly justifying the things they do. They glorify the killing of others. Today they handed out candy to our children to commemorate Tuesday’s slaughter of jews by two crazy men.

Men who themselves were psyched into murdering in the name of god. We women are either captives or brainwashed into supporting the total control over us the men have over us. I have no sympathy for the jewish men or the rest of the men in the world.

They are the ones that have looked the other way when we muslim women were forced to accept virtual slavery at the hands of misogynistic muslim men. The rest of the men of this world allow them to use that cult to sexually enslave and women and practice pedophiliac behavior against young girls.

You only react when they use that cult to excuse their barbaric behavior against you. What is it that your christian religion says? When you sow the wind, you reap the whirlwind. Ah, yes Karma is a bitch.

  28. Raymond Says:

    American saying:

“It’s as easy as shootin’ fish in a barrel.”

    Palestinian equivalent?

“It’s as easy as shootin’ Jews in a synagogue.”

  29. Ed Says:

It was two lunatics, OK? The elite like to breed lunatics with a lying and conniving PR campaign of evil manipulation. . .that they continually dupe the masses into acting upon to create this continuance of total hatred.

  30. Stan Says:

To the rest of the civilized world. You that look the other way at this barbarism by these animals. Coming to a non-Muslim house of prayer near you soon.

  31. Mel Says:

So much noise because of defective 3-Americans, but no one noticed, and did not pay attention to the death of 1317 Palestinians who were killed during the Israeli military operation this summer. Why American politicians did not talk about it then.

  32. Raymond Says:

Mel#31, So you are saying that the victims major defect was their religion and they deserved to die? These people dId NOTHING to be beheaded for. The deaths of the palestinians were the result of the Palestinians starting a war with Israel. If the people of Palestine accept the leadership that takes them to war, it is those people they should direct their anger towards when that war causes civilian casualties.

As for your lie that not enough attention was paid to the those killed in Gaza. Way too much attention was paid to those killed in Gaza. If less, Islamist Hamas would have been wiped out and there would be a lot less violence coming from the Palestinians now. Whenever the Palestinians have gone this route over the past 65 or so years, have they ever suffered terrible consequences, well deserved.

  33. Vito Says:

Howie, I agree with you. Nothing is sacred in spite of the fact that Jerusalem is considered one of the most holy cities of the world, home to people of different faiths, mainly Christianity, Islam and Judaism. One would think that this holy ground would be a safe haven from bloodshed, and terrorism, retaliation and hatred.

  34. Theo Says:

I was just there in the Holy City and it was beautiful to see the mingling of faiths, despite the barely suppressed tensions. Unfortunately, I could see the signs quite clearly of a creeping Israeli colonization. The city was changed from when I had been there fifteen years previously and the Muslim Quarter was culturally unique.

Jewish settlers had begun to take over buildings, and Muslims were being slowly removed from their houses for tiny code violations. Interestingly, a half-Jewish Palestinian, who had been raised in the Muslim Quarter, took me on the rooftop and showed me where the settlers were able to make additions to their roofs and the Palestinians could not. He pointed out ancient Muslim crescents on the rooftops that Jewish groups were buying up at top dollar and then destroying.

The recent takeover of the Al-Aqsa mosque was just a more aggressive move in this silent and creeping takeover. And so, the Palestinians break, as most peoples would. It is like the kid who is bullied too many times and then loses it. And the whole thing is tragic.

  35. Karrik Says:

One thing is clear. Those who attacked the synagogue did not support peace in MEast. In the name of Israeli oppression killing 5 Jews who were in the synagogue is not going to gain anything by it.

Killing each other will not solve any problem.Palestinian leadership must control and educate them not to repeat this kind of action. This will only help the enemies of Palestine.

  36. Jake Says:

It is slick talk like the one by professional provocateur Theo that incite the masses to do suicide attacks agains those the muslim declare their fatwas against. Theo#34,26, etc. deliberately slanted posts designed to appear non partisan are meant to either justify the murder of others, especially jews, by Muslims.

We are supposed to come away after his supposedly non partisan analysis of the situation with the feeling that these crazed homicidal murders had no other choice. Unfortunately, for over 65 years Palestinian leadership has encouraged acts of this kind and way worse. The worst of the leadership do it in the hopes of an ultimate genocide of the Jewish people there. The moderates think it’s a great adjunct to negotiations.

The Theos of this world are the true sociopaths trading on misery and death.

  37. Annabelle Says:

Stephen Hawking was right when he said that they were bed time reading for those who can not accept that there is no life after death. The religious fanatic is dangerous and demented. The myth they follow is an illusion. Fantasize they do and allow themselves to be groomed through the various stages of conversion to terrorist acts that can be justified in their mind and so become acceptable.

  38. Bill Says:

The self-centered muslims clearly believe that murder of this type is a right of the oppressed. Well, anyone who does such things, oppressed or not, has the equal right to be killed. And anyone who justifies these acts as some glorious right of the oppressed as Theo and others do has the morals of a slug.

  39. Howard Says:

I was told to check this blog out because it was one of the best in the world. I disagree. It is way too complicated to understand. I read the the topic article. Hardly anyone cared to comment on it. They just go off on any thing mentioned.

This Howie starts a string that goes on forever. When the topic is discussed, it is as if it is by seasoned pundits. Who are the people that are on your blog Michelle? I can hardly understand what they are talking about. I was told that this is a fun blog. Where are the UFO comments? I was told that Howie was the Man of All Things Alien. I didn’t know they meant Israelis.

I was told that there was a hot thing named Zen Lill who had a tongue-in-cheek way to addressing issues that would delight and amuse. All I see from her is repartee between old chums.

    Big disappointment this blog. Goodbye!.

  40. Sarah Says:

Michelle, I miss one day and I am lost, I thought. But I went back and it was a delight to see that people actually go back to comment. I used to hate that, but now I see the wisdom for people like me that miss out on making comments because we can’t get in or are too busy to catch the blog that day.

Howie, I have many of the same questions as Michelle, and others about Aliens and your relationship with Carr. I hope you will change your mind a little and repeat some of the great snippets I missed or was remiss in saving back in the day when we believed that the archives would always be available to us.

Say yes, to your adoring fans, Please.

  41. Ira Says:

You never know what to expect when you tune in here. Most of the time it is a treat. Thanks Michelle for providing such a great gossip, intellectual, funny, spot for the world to visit on a regular basis.

    Loving it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  42. Zen Lill Says:

    Howard,
Sorry to disappoint you, every day is different and usually you would get some amusing repartee. today I just chose to address a few people if that’s okay with you…
I’d suggest keep coming back, though I know most people here would say … well then good riddance Howard if we don’t meet your needs.

VA, your comment struck me most because what you say is most accurate. If men, of whatever religion, would step up, things could be very different in this world.
All of this horrific bloodshed in the name of religion is exactly why I walked away from organized religion long ago. There’s no love thy neighbor going on, not amongst men bc if you’re territory has resources, women or anything else tthey want, they take it or go to war.

Where’s the peace in that approach to religion and what god does that honor?

Men Fight wars over the mythology of their beliefs, and it all just sounds like a very dangerous and territorial game their playing, while involving many innocent lives, mostly the women and children who had nothing to do with their tyrannical pursuits.

There are a lot of men, not all, that could disappear tomorrow and no one would miss them. Their women would pretend to for a Minute until they tealized they only needed protection from other men by their men.

All that testosterone could be put to much better use in my opinion but this situation being discussed in ME always sounds unresolveable to me.

With that being said, my condolences to the families that suffered losses on Tuesday.

    Luv, Zen Lill

  43. Janet Says:

Take that Howard. That’s our Zen Lill and we are the only blog with her.

  44. Milton Says:

Howard39, Count yourself lucky, boy. You got a comment from one of our special regulars and she didn’t tear you a new asshole for your idiotic rant.

I’m one of the ones who would have told you to just fuck off it you don’t like it here. But since our resident Lady has said otherwise I’ll leave you alone.

    Come back now Ya hear.

  45. Rebecca Says:

Howard#39, we have several great regulars on this blog. Al and Howie are two of the best. They can analyze a situation and present a cogent response in a split second.

Al specializes in adding his own special slant to some of them. He can go off on a tangent and spring back with an apology and an almost perfect skewing of an asshole or philosophy that needs to be nicked in the bud. He’s my favorite.

Then there’s our own special firebrand, Alycedale. She literally takes no prisoners. Get on her bad side in person and you better be strapped and bullet proof.

Our resident softy, Prism Princess, is perhaps the sweetest thing on our blog. She has her own blog http://www.orderlyrandomness.com/ check it out, I like the way she thinks.

And of course Social Butterfly, if the name doesn’t get you, her wit will most certainly will. We used to have another regular, Doug, TM. He was married to our Hostess Michelle Moquin. But alas he has moved on to less green pastures.

Yes, she is free, but alas not gay so I weep in my sleep.

  46. HOWIE Says:

I do not understand how Michelle could possibly have any questions regarding my past posts. This is her Blog and she chose to remove the Archives which she is in possession of. They contain every word posted on this blog in the past.

How could she be curious about anything? She can look anything up.

Secondly, I do NOT have any archive of my past posts. I have been commenting to this blog for about seven years. How could I possibly remember all the exciting Alien posts that Carr has given me?

They are all snippets and I cannot remember the facts.

As far as my relationship with Carr: It has been 35 years since we met and that is a long time and so many things have happened. How could I remember what I wrote seven or six or even five years ago accurately?

Zen Lill: You of all people should know better. What if you were asked to come up with everything important you have written about?

Come on Newbies you have missed the boat. It will not turn around and pick you up. Life moves forward just as the blog does.

    HOWIE
