Trump: “What have they got to lose?”

Good Morning!

Every once in awhile I come across a write that is posted in my local newspaper. This one was passed along to me by my mother. Yes, people still do read the newspaper. Thanks, Mom!

From the SF Chron by Jill Duerr Berrick:

What have they got to lose? When will black Americans win?

920x1240

In this April 2016 file photo, Pastor Darrell Scott listens at left as Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump speaks in Trump Tower building in New York.

Donald Trump’s recent remarks to the African American community ring hollow, especially to black parents concerned about their children. “What have you got to lose?” he asks, suggesting that his “Make America Great Again” campaign responds to centuries of injustice.

But was it great in the 17th, 18th or 19th centuries, when African families were stolen from their homes, transported as cargo, separated and sold to white slave-owners in America?

Maybe it was great in 1776, when those rich, white men set about to proclaim “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Except that the only folks who got to enjoy those privileges were rich, white men like themselves. Not women, not slaves, not African American free men, not the Native Americans whose land was stolen.

So we’ll fast-forward, past the Civil War when some blacks were forced into the Confederate Army to fight against their children’s freedom. We’ll breeze past the sharecropping system that swapped slavery for servitude for generations. We’ll skip the lynching and the mobs that served to terrify children and families into submission once their “freedom” was won.

Perhaps we will land on the 1940s when the United States was fresh from its victories in Europe and Asia. But African Americans, who were systematically redlined out of the neighborhoods they wanted for their children, wouldn’t call that a time of greatness. State-sanctioned discrimination in housing, education, employment, welfare benefits or health care are instead the ugly shadows of U.S. history, times that should evoke in all of us a sense of shame — not nostalgia.

Maybe it was the golden decade of the ’50s? Gasoline was only 18 cents a gallon, but how was that great when an African American family had to carry extra gallons of gas, along with food for lunch and a makeshift chamber pot, because gas stations were often unwelcoming to these consumers? Or with the benefits of the G.I. Bill in hand, young adults were gaining access to higher education in unparalleled numbers, but more than 95 percent of African American youth enrolled in college were limited to black-only institutions. They were not welcome in the universities we now open to all.

Surely America was not great in the 1960s when our streets were roiled by rioting and violence. When communities of color, left out of the American dream for too long, and suffering the relentless abuses of strong-arm police tactics, exploded in frustration and demanded that we right our historic wrongs.

In 1980, about 1 in 10 white children were living in poverty; the rate was almost four times greater for African Americans. The disparities persist today. Nearly 2 in 5 black children live in poverty, and those born poor typically remain poor; income mobility in the U.S. is a greater part myth than it is fact.

Today, a black baby is two times more likely to die in the first year of life than a white infant. An African American child is two times more likely to be maltreated than a white child. A black youth is five times more likely to be killed by gun violence than a white youth.

America can be great, but making it so means creating equal opportunities for all children to get a healthy start in life, to live in safe neighborhoods, to access high quality child care, to go to strong schools, and to see their parents working in good-paying jobs.

“What have they got to lose” is hardly the political platform of inspiration. America will be great when children’s life outcomes are determined by their hard work, their determination or perhaps their generosity to others. America will be great when we realize the potential of “justice for all.”

I can’t believe our president invited this idiot to Mexico.

  2. Montego Says:

Any Latino that votes for this idiot will believe anything. The President of Mexico said in the beginning of the conversation that Mexico will not pay for any wall.

Most white americans live in their own world of lies and lies.

“…They’ve not taken the time to examine what he said or why to see if there was any validity;…”

What will you expect from a race that lies about everything. The History they have been feeding us about this nation is so full of lies as to be little better than a self glorifying novel.

  5. Steve Says:

This white guy has been watching the incredible fascination the MSM has with Trump. Seeing the polls show the support he has from whites I understand how Hitler came to power in Germany.

I grieve for the terror the jews and other OTWs must have gone through knowing that their white neighbors were gleefully supporting a racist.

I am white but I shutter as my neighbors, friends and family members gleefully proclaim Trumps claims that he will deport millions.

They are supporting him only because he says what they have been holding inside for years.

  6. Lloyd Says:

Trump will not get any black votes, he had two major law suits he lost because none of his trump buildings rented or sold to any blacks. He has kept the black community out of his property and now he wants their votes. I hope all black say F him.

  7. Waldo Says:

Trump may get some of the black vote that previously supported Bernie Sanders. That group has never fully endorsed Hilary Clinton and may vote for Trump as a protest because they don’t believe a third party candidate can make a dent in the election outcome.

  8. Kenny Says:

Trump would win 95% or 100% of African-American votes, the day the Klan is no longer a white supremacist and hate group.

  9. Greg Says:

If Donald Trump is going to win the Election he must go into the inner cities and let the Black people knows that he cares about them.

  10. Shannon Says:

I know that pointing out the fact that Trump is NOT RACIST a billion times won’t help, but he isn’t against ANY race. Nor is he against immigration. He wants to restore the rule of law and that’s impossible without securing the borders. Come to America….. just let us make sure that you don’t have terrorist ties, a violent criminal background, or a disease that we are not vaccinated against. It’s not too much to require.

  11. Donald Says:

Where does trump get this garbage? The Black vote does not belong to Trump. This man does not care for the Black community he say’s he is not a racist he may not be.

There are a lot of Whites in America that may not be racists. They just don’t care for the agenda of the Black population.

The White population still thinks they are doing us a favor by allowing us to vote. Black people have a right to vote just like any other race.

The politicians think the only time they have to include the Black race is when they need their vote. The 1960′s is a prime example. In the Kennedy election they promised but only handed out a voting rights act. This has always been a issue in the black community. The issue is don’t give the blacks any information just present the issues to the poor old black people.

Let Clinton, Sanders, Cruz and Trump know we have a voice and you cannot speak for the Black community because you like other politicians don’t listen to the Black community.

They don’t hear the Black community the only way to hurt them is financially and politically. Trump does not deserve to be in the White House he can’t speak for the Black community. Same old story rich White man trying to put the Black community in their place.

  12. Mike Says:

Well it seems to some of us white folk that the vast majority of the Black African American community has no self thought, they do whatever all the other Bl African Americans are doing…VOTE DEMOCRATIC, ROOT FOR DA O.J., VOTE FOR OBAMA, SCREAM RACISM EVERY TIME A WHITE PERSON SNEEZEES Etc etc etc

  13. Raymond Says:

Blacks, Afro-Americans, have the most to gain from a Trump presidency. Obama took them for granted, drove black wages down, increased black unemployment, by inviting illegal aliens to compete with blacks for limited jobs. Trump will do what Martin Luther King’s wife, Corina, argued for, closing the borders to illegal aliens. Blacks suffer the most from Obama’s pro-illegal alien policies. Blacks will benefit the most from Trump’s anti-illegal alien policies. The only reason blacks supported Obama is he’s half black. Now, blacks notice Obama is half white, and the elitist, white privilege half destroyed black workers, inspite of all the misleading false rhetoric. Obama bought Al Sharpton, to help betray black workers. Trump cares about blacks. Obama, Democrats and Hillary just use them, abuse them, and betray them.

  14. John Says:

Little do you people know, but Donald Trump is the best choice.

  15. Evan Says:

Trump is a racist. I doubt he’ll even get 10% but he’ll get far more than any other republican because he’s going to do something no republican has really done to win black votes in decades

    …he’s going to try

  16. A white reader Says:

Time for black AMERICANS to leave the plantation and stop accepting the “crumbs for votes” scam the gems have foisted on them. they want them to be feeling unmotivated, stuck, inferior, ignoring education and good habits, poor speech / communication skills, etc.

Mr. Trump can inspire many to start and operate businesses, be entrepreneurs, lead and inspire others, etc with human growth potential.

Color of skin is such a minor part of a person and it is used over and over by Dems to divide, cause anger, resentment, etc and they always try to blame everyone else (except their #$%$ policies) for the problems. It is just pure politics of divisiveness. Time to end it and improve life for everyone.

So, black voters, get the message, many of you are angry, resentful, upset. Look at who has been pretending they will make things better for you for the past 50+ years and then decide if you want to wait forever or maybe you would be better off – on your own – and away from those vampires / leeches.

  17. Tim Says:

Curious though, Donald the Tramp hasn’t said anything about “them natives” yet, you know those Native Americans who are illegally squatting in the bad lands, in areas where “our” oil is located.

I wonder if he’s quietly planning to put up a Huuuuuge fence around reservations. Why not, if you can keep all those millions of “rapists” out by building a Huuuge wall, why not keep those natives IN behind a wall.

And make them pay for it too (buffalo hides, otter pelts, turquoise stones, that should keep them docile for a few decades… right?)

  18. David Says:

Tim#17, What are you talking about Tim? Trump believes in working hard and succeeding – that’s what everyone who knows him is saying.

This idea of blaming Trump for how the native populations were treated by European settlers is inappropriate and a bit bizarre. I don’t think he has any interest in pushing anyone down.

I mean, he does want rapists to be kept in prison or else exported back to their country of origin. He does want for our country to control its borders. I think those are good things, so why the anger?

  19. Adoette Says:

Tim#17, this is the dumbest bullshit I have ever heard of… you know those Native Americans who are illegally squatting in the bad lands… It’s their land to begin with.. You people really need to understand that..

  20. Anonymous Says:

Trump’s business policies have been far more non-discriminatory than Obama’s hiring or Hillary’s. Trump promoted the most equal opportunity employment policies of any businesses or government.

He hired the competent, without discrimination. But Trump doesn’t hire illegal Mexicans or Muslim terrorists. That upsets PC liberals.

  21. Ron Says:

Stereotype? Come on, everybody knows black folks love them some Jesus? Hell a foul mouth rapper will win an award for lyrics not fit for man or beast and thank Jesus for it.

  22. David Says:

Ron, I don’t understand your point. Is it a problem for you that some black folks love them some Jesus? Are you implying that Trump does not in fact also love him some Jesus? Of course there is hypocracy in the world, but I don’t see how that’s Trumps fault.

  23. Dave Says:

Donald Trump will heal race relations in this country. This is an important step before making america great again.

Obama bought Al Sharpton, to help betray black workers. Trump cares about blacks. Obama, Democrats and Hillary just use them, abuse them, and betray them.

  25. Shelia Says:

I don’t believe trump is a racist … but he’s more than willing to use race as a weapon in the cause of his agenda. Which is worse a true believer, or someone so immoral he’s willing to use the worse WMD, race, as the “nuclear option” to get his way.

  26. Mona Says:

Breaking news: Trump’s plan to win black votes.
Mr Trump has promised to kiss every blac’kass he comes across till it changes color to purple or blue.

After that Trump has promised to win Muslims back by kissing every Muslimass till they turn Christian white.

Trump knows living up to such a promise is a colossal task but he said he is up to it and if elected president he’ll do it.

Way to go Mr Trump. Get those lips wet. You may have to do it even if you are not elected president.

    ~ ZL

  29. Ma Qin Says:

Hello Zen Lill it is always nice to hear from you. Thanks for inquiring about us here in France. How shall I start? First it is almost 3:30 PM cest here Île-de-France.

I’m back in Paris after 11 months in Caen. There the country was on high alert I thought until I returned home, to Paris. People are not just nervous, they are frightened of everyone different.

Most are afraid if the crowds get too large. When in an enclosed area, one can’t help but check out the exits. Many in restaurants want to sit next to an exit. I think trust is what has been lost.

As for the burkini ban since the Conseil d’Etat, our highest administrative court has overturned the ban, women can be forced to wear it under the pretext they choose to do so. Me I would force the men to wear one too or send the lot home. On the other hand if a woman wanted to wear it on her on no one should have the right to stop her. So I’m okay with the overturning of the ban.

The way I see it is since there is no way to tell if a woman is doing it because she wants to or because she is being forced to, France should err on the side of deferring to the choice the woman makes when she comes to the beach.

How are you and your family, especially your daughter, handling your constant traveling between the two countries? My best friend travels with me with her 16 year old daughter. She hates it and we are only traveling a hundred miles both ways.

I read the blog every day to see what you are saying. I called or received calls from over a hundred others who read the blog telling me what I already knew that you were addressing me personally on the blog.

I texted this PTDR in rely and called my mother to tell here when I would be replying to you.

Thanks again, Mon ami for thinking of France and me.

    Ma Qin

  30. PrismPrincess Says:

Interchangeable Core Cylinders are frequently used in larger institutions and businesses and are known for their easy ability to re-key the lock by swapping out the core without taking the lock apart. I/C Locks have two types of keys that work in the lock, the standard operator key locks and unlocks the lock like normal, while the control key, when used, pulls the entire core of the lock out without removing any screws. This is very useful when upgrading locks since the door hardware can be left alone. Just the lock cores are replaced with new ones allowing the door to be upgraded in seconds. The most popular I/C Lock brands are Best, Yale, and Schlage. Their figure-eight style cores are well known and are found in many places around the world. There are different I/C lock formats with the two most popular being Small Format Interchangeable Core (SFIC) and Large Format Interchangeable Core (LFIC). It is important to note that I/C cylinders can only be installed in housings specially meant for I/C cylinders. They cannot be installed in standard deadbolts or locks not meant to take an I/C cylinder. In almost all cases if your lock can take an IC cylinder you will see the figure eight on the outside of the lock.

    I trust that helps.
