Judge Evokes Mississippi ‘Of Slavery, Lynchings, Pain And White Supremacy’ In Confederate Flag Ruling
Though he said the symbol is constitutional, he warned that his home state is dangerously out of step with the rest of the nation.
The Mississippi state flag, which incorporates the Confederate battle flag, hangs with other state flags in the subway system under the U.S. Capitol in Washington on June 23, 2015.
U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves is no fan of the Confederate flag, and judging by his ruling on Thursday, he’s also pretty critical of the entire state of Mississippi.
Reeves, a black man and native Mississippian, ultimately dismissed the lawsuit that would have declared the Confederate battle emblem in his home state’s flag to be unconstitutional, saying there’s no part of the Constitution “which guarantees a legal right to be free from anxiety at State displays of historical racism.”
But Reeves used the ruling to make his distaste for the flag (which he called “repulsive”) ― and Mississippi’s continued use of it ― abundantly clear.
“Since the Civil War, this nation has evolved and breathed new life into ‘We the People’ and ‘all men are created equal,’” Reeves wrote in his conclusion. “Mississippi is known for its resistance to that evolution.”

“Part of that resistance stems from electing demagogues and those with empty rhetoric and false courage,” he continued. “The result is a State increasingly isolated from the rest of the nation.”
Mississippi Today reporter Adam Ganucheau highlighted a larger portion of the text, which is worth reading in its entirety:
“At times there is something noble in standing alone. This is not one of those times,” Reeves wrote. “The Confederate battle emblem has no place in shaping a New Mississippi, and is better left retired to history.”

Readers: Although this article speaks for itself, it is worth noting that if the tables were reversed and it was a white judge deciding if an insult to the dignity of whites were at stake, we all know that the white judge would have found that flag unconstitutional.
The concept of “freedom of speech” is still predicated on whether that “freedom,” offends what white America holds dear. Witness the uproar over Kapernick’s sitting for the national anthem. An anthem that white America doesn’t find offensive to black Americans because they like the song. It’s just a song, albeit one chosen (by whites) to be the national anthem.
I suppose if it is too much to ask the state of Mississippi to remove a symbol that signifies the enslavement of millions of blacks and 250 years of torture, rape, and murder of their ancestors, then surely, it is a waste of time to expect the nation of whites to change a good tune they like because it advocates the murder of their black citizens.
HYPOCRISY, stands out every time you cite the Constitution – So, white America, what part of that don’t you get? How long will you continue to pretend that in that document constructed by men with slaves the “We the people,” meant ONLY white men, NOT white women or any OTW? How long will you continue to deny that the “all men are created equal,” clause meant ONLY white men, NOT white women or any OTW?
HYPOCRISY is staring you in the face every time you look in the mirror, but you only see pride. Sickening.

Freedom is a compact, personally I don’t care what flag people wave and they can wave for whatever reason they want but when you try to impose on someone else and say you can’t wave this flag than that is an intrusion upon their life.
Liberals are going to have a price to pay from hell for intruding upon the freedom of others because at a certain point they aren’t going to take it regardless of law suits, attacks in the media, attacks online and people are going to fight back and should.
I respect the right for others to live their lives as they wish insofar they do not intrude upon others and that is what people do in this country and liberals are like a parasite that have descended in this country and seeks to suck everything of worth from it.

As a veteran I and millions of others took an oath to defend America, it’s legal citizens and our Constitution against enemies foreign or domestic with up to and including our life.! That oath has no expiration date. That includes Veterans, Active Duty Military, National Guard, Reserves and Law Enforcement.

Lincoln was the traitor, he went around the USA Constitution by Executive order, Emancipation Proclamation, and caused more American lives lost in a war that has in all reality freed no one from the dependence of the USA federal governments power. John, you say that the Civil War was fought 80% over tariffs and taxes and while that may be true (and I doubt it, there’s literally no history on that and I’ve looked up) mthat still leaves 20% about slavery that’s ownership of people, you understand that right?

Zen Lill, You can’t make legal decisions on the basis if something is american or not. This is what happens when you get a president like obama, he probably nominated this judge.
Secondly get over slavery, every civilization in the world has had it and it had nothing to do with race; these people who complain about it exploit it to their advantage. There is nothing more pathetic than that. Many people aside from black people have faced difficulty and they need to be called out for taking advantage of hardship that happened centuries ago.
Third Obama was born an outcast and this is the price america pays for electing someone who is an outcast. He was born to an alcoholic father who abandoned the family, raised by grandparents with a herion addiction, lied as far away from the u.s you could get in Hawaii; went to a muslim middle school in Indonesia. Two different races, two different religions.

Does this judge also view the BLM movement as “Anti-American”? The Confederate Flag is no more divisive than the rainbow flag or the BLM movement.
The Confederate flag represents citizens standing up to the Government, and if the South had won, it would have been similar to the Boston Tea Party in our history.

Unless you are using the term American in the continental sense, of course the Confederate battle flag is anti-American. There is really no other way to describe it.
Traitors in South Carolina opened fire on a fort that was flying Old Glory. (You know, that flag that many of you have proudly flying in your front yards, in the dark and in the rain.) That started a war called the Civil War. That is not some politically correct idea of the left, that really happened. The Republican president at the time refused to “bow down” before a foreign government and vowed that anyone who attacked a United States fort would regret it.
In war, battles are fought. So, historically the Confederate battle flag was used by traitors who killed thousands and thousands of good American soldiers, many of them Republicans. If that is not anti-American, what is?
The men who fought for the Confederacy may have been valiant soldiers “fighting for a cause” but that cause was the destruction of the United States of America. That made them enemies just like the valiant soldiers “fighting for a cause” in the Japanese or German army were enemies of the USA.
How can someone claim to be a “patriot” and at the same time honor traitors?

I’m going to have to agree with Zen Lill. Reading the comments from some of you people says a lot about the self centeredness in this country.
And the racism is just off the charts. I don’t know too many black people but this level of vitriol is just sick. I can understand why a candidate like Mr. Trump who to anyone with an ounce of intelligence is just not qualified to be POTUS can be competing so closely with Mrs. Clinton.
I am a republican. I won’t be voting for the democrats, but I certainly won’t vote against the best interest of my country by voting for Mr. Trump.

Trump is a strong-man for the weak – or more specifically those who have been left behind and either (a) have not taken it upon themselves to re-train for a 21st century economy; or (b) were waiting for their Republican representatives to fund job displacement programs.
