Get Off Of Yourself And Put Your Attention Somewhere Else

Posted by Michelle Moquin on March 11th, 2009

I had a cool night last night. Doug and I volunteered to answer the phones for KQED for one of their annual pledge drives. Doug has done this before for their radio station but we were both newbies for the television show. Doug was especially excited because Chris Botti was the guest. If you have never heard his music, you are missing out. He is a gifted trumpeter with a crooning soulful voice that one can listen to all night. That’s all I’ll say. Maybe I’ll add him to the side link at some point.

Anyway, I have to say it was fun answering the phones. And they were ringing. I’m a big fan of public radio and television, and I am happy that I could give my time back. I didn’t expect to enjoy it that much.  In fact I had so much fun, I wish they did their pledge drives more often. I will definitely do it again.

Have any of you been feeling in a funk lately? It’s hard not to sometimes when there is so much going on in our world. After I got off work yesterday,  I sat in my car chatting with a friend. It had been awhile since we had spoken and I guess I was in a bitchin’ mood.  All sorts of stuff came flying out of my mouth….most of it out of frustration and none of it was really real.  I felt better afterwards. Sometimes one just has to purge all of the shit, and when it is all out there, one can let it go and  get a clearer perspective on how one truly feels. I don’t feel this way often but when I do, I am grateful for the listening ear. Thank you dear friend – you know who you are.

So my point being…when you start to feel that way, do something constructive. I find that when I do something for someone else and take the attention off of myself, the world changes and always looks better. Or perhaps it is me that changes. :) Donating my time is a great way to take the attention off of one self. Last night was perfect timing. Thanks Doug for signing us up.

It seems I missed a few comments from the past two days. My apologies.  Some newbies? Tucker:  I love that name. For some reason I think you’re a girl. Not sure why; I would just love that name for a girl.  You know a kind of ‘Ellie may’ look. So..you sound as if you have some experience dealing with these municipalities? I love your take on it, The law is just a legal club to mug you with.’ Yeah and getting hit over the head is no fun…not to mention the hit in the pocketbook.

Anyway, Jt Justme: Where did you go that you weren’t allowed to bring a computer or Ipod? Was it some kind of retreat? I so want to know. You felt it was the worst time of your life? Hmm…I think it sounds like heaven….not for a long time but a few days..ummm….sounds lovely, take me there.

DNSR!: Good to hear from you again. How are you? Say hello to BNMV :)

And….It also seems that some of the ‘shy’ ones are speaking out – ooohh…how I love that my blog article inspired you! No, ZL…you are not included in that bunch. You are a regular here and would be sorely missed should you go pseudo ‘Jessica’ on me :)

Anyway….Let’s see…ah Yes, Meleea D – what a fab name!  Of course, you have made it clear that I know you, but really I have no idea who you are.  Too many friends have made comments about my blog, and being ‘shy’ or ‘intimidated’, so your animosity (did I say animosity?! Too early for me this morning)…anonymity is safe….All I can say is I am deeelighted that you decided to come and play…who ever you are. :) And thank you for saying such wonderful thing about me and my blog. I still get a bit concerned over whether my blog articles are good enough…good enough for who? I don’t know, but that is just me.  I always want to do better and sometimes….’time expands to meet my needs’ doesn’t always expand to meet my needs. So, what I am really trying to say is, ‘I love the compliments! From old friends and new. Meleea D – welcome – I look forward to your presence here.

Oh, and you and Zen Lill should get together…she’s a speedster too…well so am I but I just don’t get caught!  My eagle eye is always checkin’ the rear.

What else?

Doug…did you send your letters? Readers: Did you like yesterday’s post? I am really hoping that you got involved ’cause I don’t want to hear you bitchin’ later. Now is the time to bitch, and not to us, but to those that can change our healthcare system to something that we can be proud, something that works for EVERYONE, so we don’t have to bitch. Got it?

  1. Zen Lill Says:

    Hi Mischa,

I don’t know when Jt posted about the Ipod, but I just watched the funniest video, it’s about our attachment and entitlement towards our tech products, it’ll be on my blog manana bc I just think we can all use a rethink sometimes…I was going to do it today but I posted a love song sent via e-mail by my kid, I just dug it that she was in the next room and was just busting to tell me, so funny/weirdly cute that she had to use her computer to express love to me.

I’m always scanning my mirrors for cops also, I’m a cops kid! But 1 ticket in all these years, not too shabs, and my disclaimer is I was driving my boyfriends new MBZ and it hummed along at 120MPH like I was driving 50MPH, you gotta love that…I do love a well engineered machina and have owned one ever since then, he – the man at the time and the car convinced me of that.

Meleea D, that’s funny, the EST atmosphere at traffic school. I did EST looong ago and they spent so much time talking about ‘rest room’ logistics amongst other non-issues (to me) I was ready to commit Hari Kari.

Catch you later, Zen Lill aka Jessica : )
