Georgia: What are the answers?

Posted by michellemoquin on August 12th, 2008

So my question is…’Why is Russia attacking the Democratic state of Georgia?’ The disputes are happening inside of Georgia, not in Russia, and between Georgia and South Ossetia (which desires to split away from Georgia and join the Russian Federation), not Russia.   Why is Putin butting in?

It seems to me that Putin is just pissed that the Soviet Union no longer exists as a world power and he wants it back. He has commented that the end of the  USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) was the worst disaster of the 20th Century. It is obvious that he doesn’t want Georgia to be a pro-western government that is so closely aligned with the US. So close are we that there is a street in Georgia named…you got it…’George Bush’.

And what about NATO? Putin thinks that it is wrong that the US is even having talks with Georgia about NATO. Putin has made it clear, ‘Russia will do anything and everything possible to suffocate Georgia’s drive to join NATO and the European Union.’  Obviously war is in the ‘anything’ and ‘everything’ category.

Could it be that this is a second shot at a Cold War? Does Russia want to reimpose authority and their super power status? With all of the heated territorial disputes that have been going on for many years,  it seems to me that the answers are yes.

How about the pipeline? It is said that Putin wants to get his hands on the international Caspian sea pipeline that traverses Georgia.  But of course…It is the only pipeline from Asia that is outside Russia’s control.

Do we and our European allies step in to help? If we don’t what will that mean for Georgia?  Putin has proved that he has been ruthless before and he is showing his ruthlessness again. He is determined to have his way with Georgia.  Who would be next? The other former Soviet satellites that are now western democracies (Ukraine, Poland, the Baltic Republics). They will be increasingly defenseless against the Russians  if Georgia is broken apart.

To date: Thousands of people have been killed.  As of yesterday Georgia had pledged a cease-fire as well as the world’s seven largest economic powers including Bush who pressed Moscow to accept an immediate cease-fire and pull its troops out. The Georgian Ambassador Irakli Alasania has told reporters, “A full military invasion of Georgia is going on….Now I think Security Council has to act.”

What happened to Putin’s poster slogan, ‘Say yes to peace and stability’?

Readers: What are your thoughts?

Hello Valerian: I feel as if I have more questions than answers. And in answer to your question, I am sorry, I don’t know who will help. I can only hope that it will end soon with as few casualties as possible.  Be well, Be safe.

Hey Zen Lill: Your tardy friend sounds the same as my tardy friend.  She was often rude to the wait people and if any guy tried to come on to either of us while we were chatting, she would not so nicely ask them to leave when I have no problem with a friendly interruption. It was always so uncomfortable. I miss the good times but not all of the effort it took to be her friend. I think she is secretly a man-hater myself and actually may have had an interest in moi,  therefore always upset over any man giving me attention.  Ugh…friendships should be easy.

Gratefully your blog host,

Hi Mischa, I read the news reports and did some digging around after Valerian showed up here, same info as above, but that question does remain: who will step in and help, perhaps that what both ruthless leaders were discussing when they panned on GWB chatting w/Putin at the olympics?

Oh you know that ‘wanting moi’ thing with the friend, that’s funny, she got PO’d bc a bartender came over with drinks, they were sent over by a man named Andy for ‘me and my friend’ she tweaked and then said, well you do look good, very good. I laughed and asked her if she wanted to make out with me, she didn’t laugh so hmmm…you’re right though, friendships should be easier, I guess I like her well thought out questions?

Sweet pea, my old man trainer at the gym said this to me yesterday…’look around this place, see any good looking men?’ I did not know where he was going with this but I indulged the q and said, ‘yes, I see a few.’ I’m thinking by what he said next that he’d finally noticed I’m sans left handed bling bling, and here’s his gem, ‘…let me tell you, IF you suddenly find yourself single, don’t even think about going out with anyone at this gym, not one man here is of your caliber. In fact, you’ll have a tough time finding one but don’t settle for less.’ he walked back to his ‘trainee’ and said over his shoulder, ‘don’t disappoint me.’

Little does he know that a nitro express caliber man called sweet pea is in right in the crosshairs ; )

I’m going to Newport, RI this weekend, I’m sure they’ll be lots of republicans at the party I’m going to, want to meet me there? Just a thought, babe…(I know you’ll say no, not to worry, I’m not offended)

    Ciao for now, Zen Lill

    CRITICAL HEART ATTACK REMINDER

If you were with someone having a heart attack would you know what to do? Given that a heart attack occurs in this country every 20 seconds, and death from a heart attack every minute, I thought it would be good to periodically review what should be done when a heart attack happens. For expert advice, I called Richard A. Stein, MD, professor of medicine and director of the Urban Community Cardiology Program at New York University School of Medicine and national spokesperson for the American Heart Association.
    WARNING SIGNS NOT ALWAYS OBVIOUS
The classic description, of course, is “I feel like an elephant is sitting on my chest,” which covers the pressure, squeezing and/or fullness in the chest that are the most common, well-known symptoms. But it’s not uncommon for a heart attack to feel less intense, which doesn’t mean it is any less dangerous, warns Dr. Stein. Even mild heart attacks can cause major damage, which is why you should seek immediate medical attention. In fact, some heart attacks don’t even cause chest pain or discomfort… they may be characterized by subtle symptoms, too, that can be all too easy to miss or dismiss — such as a burning pain in the chest similar to indigestion, unexplained and profound weakness, and/or shortness of breath. This last is a serious warning sign.
Heart attack symptoms can be intermittent or constant, mild or severe, says Dr. Stein, emphasizing that you should act immediately when any new, unexplained symptoms like this occur. (If, on the other hand, you have a history of shortness of breath due to anxiety or panic attacks, or are experiencing indigestion-like symptoms after eating to excess, and your doctor says not to worry, it may not be a medical emergency.) These symptoms are more common in women, but also occur in men. And symptoms may be less intense for older people and those who have certain medical problems including diabetes, cautions Dr. Stein… but that doesn’t mean their heart attack will be any less severe.
In addition to chest pain, symptoms that suggest heart attack include…
    • Pain or discomfort — especially sudden and intense, but this can vary ?– in the back, shoulders (especially the left one), neck, jaw and/or one or both arms.
    • A cold sweat.
    • Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and burning pain resembling indigestion. These symptoms can be difficult to distinguish from those caused by bad food choices, acknowledges Dr. Stein, so err on the side of caution, especially when there’s really no reason you should feel this way.
    • Extreme weakness or fatigue. People with diabetes or who are elderly may be more vulnerable to so-called “silent” heart attacks, which produce no symptoms or mild symptoms.
    • Dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting.
    • An unexpected, otherwise inexplicable feeling of intense anxiety or impending doom.
    CALL 911… IMMEDIATELY!
Call 911 as fast as you can, if you or someone you are with experiences chest pain or even any of these other, more subtle symptoms, stresses Dr. Stein. Even if you live near the hospital, this is advisable since people who arrive by ambulance usually receive faster care, which is critical since time is of the essence in treating heart attack. Expect, in most instances, to be given a plain aspirin tablet to chew in the ambulance or in the emergency room — it can make a big difference. To everyone you encounter, including ambulance personnel and in the ER, say “I think I am having a heart attack” and describe your particular symptoms. This helps to convey the seriousness of the situation so you don’t end up waiting while other patients are attended to first.
    TIMING IS EVERYTHING
Don’t ever waste time seeing if symptoms worsen before seeking treatment — the sooner you get medical attention, the less damage is done and the greater likelihood of survival. So don’t worry that you may be over-reacting, says Dr. Stein. “Be assertive, it’s your heart and your life.” He stresses that doctors don’t mind seeing you if you think you’re having a heart attack — even if you’re not. It’s not the worst thing in the world to get examined by a physician in the emergency room, and be told it’s not a heart attack — the worst thing is to ignore symptoms and fail to get life-saving treatment.

    Sir

We have entered the Blarive solar system. The beings here look like a cross between spiders and butterflies. They have huge ugly bodies with the most beautiful set of wings.

They call themselves Arvis. They occupy 4 of the ll occupied planets in their solar system. The Ulars occupy 2 of the 11 and they look like catfish with wheels. This is the first time I have seen such diverse body types in the same solar system.

I am told that this usually means that either the beings present came here and exterminated the indigenous intelligent life forms or that they came to an uninhibited planet and have not been here long.

There is a species of beings on one of the Avris’ moon that acts as a symbiotic host for the Arvis during their teen years. The terrains on all the planets differ widely. But it is the blue moons of Cafa that strike me as the most spectacular thing that I have witnessed.

It is occupied by feathered creatures that are born on the wing; take 143 earth years to land and then they shed their wings for 341 years and not only re grow their wings but they morph into humanoids that look like angles with dove wings.

It is straight our of one of our biblical representations of angels. The thing is that during that stage their mental skills have declined like our 70 to 80 year olds. Their sun never sets. it is their blue moons(7) that move in front of their sun as intervals that cast the most beautiful shades and hues of blues and the colors that red, green, yellow, indigo and violet can produce.

By the time they have become angels they are color blind so they can not appreciate the spectacular views they get. As they fly around they seem to change color with every wing stroke. It is just too beautiful to describe adequately in words. The younger beings are in awe of the elders. They feed them a special mixture that enables them to live another 314 years. The harmony brings tears to your eyes.

    Sir

    Marli

thank you for thinking of us. The Russians are bombing us despit the world view that they have stopped. They are trying to punish us and remove our elected president.

I read anxiously to see if the rest of the world will come to our aid.

  5. General Info Says:

Q: What is acid rain, and what causes it?
A: Sulfuric and nitric acids make rain unnaturally acidic. These acids?form from sulfur oxides that come primarily from coal-burning power?plants and nitrogen oxides that come from car exhaust. These ?compounds undergo chemical reactions in the atmosphere to form?acid, which can appear anywhere in the water cycle — in snow,?fog and rain. Acid droplets and other particles in rain contribute ?to the destruction of the ecosystem.
There are other things in rain that we should be concerned about ?as well. We hear a lot about mercury in fish, but not that mercury comes?mostly from rain falling into the water where fish live. Mercury, like ?sulfur oxide, is a by-product of coal combustion.
