Oh so many topics these past few days. I just want to jump in on the convos and verbalize my thoughts today. Okay?
Choe: I know of the morning Joe show but I have not had the opportunity to watch ‘Joe’ nor ‘Mika’. But you have peaked my interest and I will try and check it out. Though, I did google Mika and found a youtube video of her on the show. The headlining topic was about Paris Hilton and she was just adamant about not covering the story….wanting to cover real news. I don’t see her as some ditzy T & A blond…oh no you said, ‘hair and tits’…I don’t know. I can’t give a fair enough opinion without checking her out a bit more. I’ll keep you posted.

In regards to Sanford…I have enjoyed reading all of the comments that you’ve made. I feel bad for his family…to have his affair be so public. He was obviously thinking with the little head instead of the big head as ‘discretion out of respect’ was not in the forefront of his mind. As I said the other day…”most men cheat”. I actually want to retract that statement. I don’t think most men cheat…but I think ‘many’ do. If one is going to have an affair, at least don’t flaunt it. Ok…Maybe he wasn’t flaunting the affair, but being a public figure, one has to be more careful than the average Joe. Now look at where his oh-so-intimate e-mails have landed him.
But I agree, the worst part of it, is not only that his family has to live with the embarrassment of the world knowing their personal business, but the fact that he is a benchmark for hypocrisy, alongside many other religious rights. I get so tired of the posturing…in politics and here in the personal. Zip the lip….thou is protesting too much. And I agree, the only reason they are admitting and apologizing is because they got caught. Simple as that. But hey, let’s not leave out some of the liberal lefts either – they are not immune from the temptations in life, they just don’t go around moralizing while surreptitiously sexing it up. And yes, I too want to know if our tax dollars have been funding his little affair.
Oh George: I love when you swear and get all worked up. However, your talkin’ the talk is coming up short lately. Your talk usually makes up for what you lack in the sack, but this time I think you measured up correctly.
So…I went to a white trash party a few weeks ago and thought about you. Here I am sporting my fave white trash slutfit, complete with daisy duke shorts, my trucker hat, stiletto sneakers, and a Marlboro stuck in my mouth – your kind of girl right? – So c’mon…use this piece of meat! – Can you handle this bitch? Imagine these legs wrapped around your waist. Oh that’s right…I forgot…I’m not your type. Too bad, I could use a good spanking.

Your comments border on the insane and illogical- now don’t be mad at me :) You are simply entertaining. Friends? It is your choice whether we are friends or not by your flip-the-switch attitude. Anonymous and proud of it: You have made a very good point. You are correct that I would not want my readers to be curbed. However, am I quietly laughing? I wouldn’t say that. Would I rather they comment anonymously than not comment at all? Of course. But would I not allow anonymous comments? Never. I will however admit that I have to make more of an effort to read them and focus on the subject at hand, and let go of making a connection to the anonymous anonymouses. I like the familiar; what can I say? I like the connection because I like people, but I respect the need to be anonymous, even more. So there you have it – Keep it coming.
As far as gays, lesbians, bisexuals, whatever…I think we all have the ability, tendency to ‘swing and switch’. You can be born knowing that you only desire the opposite or same sex, or you can have a bad experience with the opposite sex and veer toward the same sex….or you can have an incredible experience with the same sex and never want to go opposite again. I agree with anonymous #47….Who cares what the percentages are. Live….let live….and love it…whether you are born desiring the same sex or it is a choice. Either way, we all deserve equal rights. Agree?
Batul: I think that we all can say the same thing in one way or another. And Madaline’s right….we don’t get another life. Don’t let anyone’s desire for you to not have what you want, interfere with getting what you want.
I’m happy that all of you like the tribute to Michael Jackson. Thank you for your kind words. You all had some very wonderful things to say about him too. I didn’t want to mention the accusations as I wanted to focus on just him as a loving, talented person but I knew my readers would address the subject, and I was hoping that you would.
I was never sure if he was innocent from all that he was accused of, but I felt that his actions were innocent, if that makes sense. I never saw him as more than a child myself so it was difficult for me to fathom any loving contact that he had with children as anything more than just pure love. Even if there was sexual nuances, my mind only viewed them as explorations between two children as I never thought of him as an adult….so whatever contact there was seemed pure and innocent. I know that may sound strange as I do not condone pedophiliac behavior but I just didn’t feel that this was a man making advances at a boy, if in fact he ever did, which I seriously doubt he did.
Michael never had a childhood and only wanted to give what he never got. Unfortunately I believe that his love and kindness was greedily taken advantage of. Now I read that the boy, whose father had accused Michael of sexual contact with his son, and who sued and won millions, has now come clean and confessed that Michael never touched him that way. The guilt this child, now a young man, has had to live with for over 10 years because of his father’s greed. And now, in my mind his actions were no doubt a catalyst for Michael’s death – Michael never got over the accusations…his life was spiraling in a downward turn during and after the trials. Can you imagine having the ability to give what he was able to give to children and have it all backfire? He innocently loved and society could not accept his way of showing his love. It is just so sad and unfortunate.
Zen Lill: I love watching Michael and the Jackson Five sing ABC. The costumes were outrageous! I remember watching the Jackson Five cartoon too – what a hoot that was. You also brought up Farrah Fawcett’s death – thanks for mentioning her. I was going to include her in my write yesterday but it didn’t feel right. But Farrah too was an icon. “Charlie’s Angels” was one of my favorite shows. It was the beginning of ‘women power’…and we must not forget her famous hairstyle, that every young girl and woman at that time had to have. Moi included.

And your article….wow. I learned so much from that read – Thank you for posting that too. I think this is very much needed. It needs to be recognized that this time in our history is an atrocity that should never have happened. But it did. It very much did. And the ripples that continue need to come to a halt.
And on that note I am halting my write and starting my day. Although late, and posting has been a bitch today, feel lucky that I am able to post at all these days. I have been trying for hours. I look forward to connecting in any way…

Hi Michelle,
I too prefer names to anonymouses, but only because it is easier for me to know who is who, and in the case of multiple comments from the same anonymous, how would one know?
But I don’t mind if someone wants to sign in anonymously. You certainly have a lot of readers who prefer to remain anonymous.
Too bad about Jacko, many will miss him.

JUNK FOODS LINKED TO VISION LOSS
Piling on yet more evidence as to why it is important to limit processed foods in your diet, new research findings suggest a possible connection between consumption of junk food and development of Age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the leading cause of vision loss in adults age 60 and older. Where earlier studies showed that a diet rich in antioxidants — lots of fruits and vegetables — can lower the risk of AMD, new research shows that eating large quantities of foods high on the glycemic index (the measure of how fast carbohydrates raise blood sugar) actually increases the likelihood of AMD development and progress.
These studies took place at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University in Boston. Senior author Allen Taylor, PhD, and first author Chung-Jung Chiu, DDS, PhD, and colleagues, analyzed data including detailed dietary histories from 4,099 men and women who had participated in the nationwide Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS). The data showed that in the 20% of people whose diets were highest in high-glycemic foods there was a 40% increased risk of AMD versus the people making up the 20% whose diets were lowest in those foods. Furthermore, the researchers found that the risk of developing AMD escalated right along with the glycemic index — the more high-glycemic carbs people regularly ate, the greater the odds they developed AMD.
I spoke with Dr. Taylor about the study findings. He speculates that high-glycemic foods may be especially damaging to many proteins in the eye tissue. Retina pigmented epithelia cells operate like the “kidney” of the retina — that is, they are meant to absorb and then eliminate damaged material, or what Dr. Taylor calls “junk.” There is a mechanism to remove these damaging molecules within eye tissue cells, but the system slows with age. Dr. Taylor suspects that the high-glycemic carbs are harmful in two ways — by altering retina and lens proteins so they’re not as easily recognized by the protein editing machinery, and also compromising the ability of this system to do its work. The result is that high-glycemic foods become a double-whammy to the health of aging eyes.
Improvement doesn’t require radical change in the diet, stresses Dr. Taylor. A simple switch from white foods to their whole-grain counterparts and avoiding high-sugar foods (including those that are sweetened with high fructose corn syrup) can help. The republican women will soon turn on Jenny Sanford. They usually forgive the men their infidelities and blame the wife for not doing something to keep the man or supporting him after he strayed.
It will start with a cut here and their. Then once that balloon has been floated and there is not hard push back, they will attack her rabidly.
Republican women have very low self esteem. They need men to tell them what as is often referred to in this blog “what is in, out, good, or bad.
God to them is a man with a penis and balls.

This is my third try if this doesn’t work I will try George. I wanted to comment on Mark Sandford. He is another hypocritical republican.
Sure the dems cheat on their wives too. But it is not the same. They don’t go around moralizing about the sanctity of marriage vows. They don’t scream for the resignations of every male in political office who gets caught that is a democrat while looking the other way if it is a republican.
Most importantly, they don’t try to worm out of doing what they tried to force the dem cheater to do when they get caught.
Mark Sandford comparing himself to David so that he can keep his job is ludicrous.

If his followers knew what I know. Actually the whole bunch that associate with that party are condemning everyone else for what they secretly do or want to do themselves.

Sanford–Just resign. You’re not a victim. Your wife is. No one wants you to hang out for the money and the pension. BTW-if you used taxpayer dollars to pay for the affair even if you say you’re going to pay it back –wouldn’t that be misappropriation of funds or some sort of embezzlement? Was it wrong? If so maybe you should be impeached if you don’t just resign.

Two thirds of my family belong to that group. You would think I would know something about it. I don’t. They march around with airs of moral superiority pontificating about this and that.

please. this man is having the infatuation of a teenager. in time he will realize that the fantasy concocted in an email based long distance relationship is not genuine love– there is 0% chance they would last more than a few months together if he really dropped his life and jetted off to argentina to marry.
it’s sad that he’s going through this puppy love now– with 4 kids depending on him– but such is the price to pay for a sheltered life.

Yes, there is something more beautiful than a torrid affair, there is acting grown up and ending a marriage before before getting a mistress. There is treating your wife and children with respect. You can follow your love but you should honor your vows and and not run around like a schoolboy. He is an adult, he should have acted like one. By his ridiculous actions he put his sons in a spotlight (he picked Father’s day for his latest escapade) and set them up for public ridicule — we all know how cruel kids can be to each other.
He basically stole money (airfare) for his state and unannounced time from his job. He obviously was hoping to get away with that or he would have charged it to his own account. Try that where you work. One of the most telling things was that in his “confession/news conference” he said he was sorry to his mistress BEFORE he apologized to his wife or his young children. So inspiring, get what you want when you want it — not do the right thing.

just watched a video where she said she told him to leave 2 weeks ago and not talk to her or the kids. Not talk to his kids – what kind of “christian values” are those? Is this the “christian” way of working on a marriage?
I don’t understand the bible thumping from seemingly intelligent people – looking for guidance in an old book of stories written before modern sciance and randomly put together for political purposes. Look for guidance there and you are bound to be lost.

Sleep Better — Without Drugs

It’s no secret that prescription sleeping pills are hugely popular in the US. But it’s less well-known that these drugs are not always effective, and that their side effects, such as headache and dizziness, can be quite troublesome.
Some people have turned to melatonin, a “sleep hormone” produced by our bodies, which can be boosted by taking it as a dietary supplement. Melatonin (0.3 mg to 5 mg) is typically taken 30 minutes to four hours before bedtime. It is generally safe but may increase blood pressure and should not be taken by pregnant or lactating women. Melatonin does not work for everyone, though.
Another option is the herb valerian.* In a double-blind study, valerian extract was as effective as the prescription tranquilizer oxazepam (Serax). Valerian can cause mild side effects, including stomach upset and morning sleepiness, but these are rare. Valerian should not be used by anyone taking a benzodiazepine tranquilizer, such as diazepam (Valium).
If you would like to try valerian, take the capsule form 30 minutes before bedtime. (Choose a product standardized to 0.5% to 1.0% valerenic acids and follow label instructions.) Tea drinkers can try steeping 2 g to 3 g of the dried root (or the equivalent in a standardized extract) or adding one tea bag to six ounces of boiling water. Drink 30 minutes before bedtime. If you’re like most people, you should start sleeping better the same night you try this remedy.
*Pregnant or lactating women should consult their physicians before taking herbs.
