Federer’s Nike Trumps Roddick’s Lacoste
Posted by Michelle Moquin on July 5th, 2009
I slept late this morning, but got up in just enough time to watch the last set of the men’s Wimbledon finals between Federer and Roddick. Sorry folks but my rooting wasn’t for Roddick; I’m a fan of Federer.
We can talk about the exciting game; the amazing never-ending 5th set…we can chat about the fact that Federer won his 15th Grand Slam Title…or even, in my opinion, the poor-sport attitude from Roddick during the awards ceremony….and by all means do so.
For me….I want to talk about FASHION: The Cool & Calm look vs the Sloppy & Sweaty. And if you saw the game you know exactly what I’m talkin’ about.
Federer didn’t let his country down when it came to winning Wimbledon, nor when it came to his tennis threads. Federer’s fashionable fitted attire, thanks to Nike, was modern, hip and cool and not just in a visual sense. Starting at the top, Federer’s headband was the perfect choice for a drip-less day on the court, preventing even a splash of sweat on his brow, not to mention allowing a cool breeze to finger its way through his gorgeous tousled locks. Moving down….his fitted shirt; tight enough to show off that lean bod, the fabric melding in sync with his movements, yet not too tight to restrict his flow. And the shorts; again fitted (and yes butt-hugging too:) but a slightly longer, leaner look – the classic tennis mixed with a young and modernistic twist. Oh and did ya check out Federer’s logo? Too cool. Conclusion: Nike, you got it goin’ good; like Federer, you’re a winner on and off the court.
Now on the other side of the net…
And this is not to take away from Roddick rockin’ the court – that he did. His power serve is definitely something to be proud of. But guy, you’re tennis threads were downright dumpy….way passé. You may be our Americano star of the court, but your archaic attire has got to retire. Lacoste is just too conservative and old mannish. Not to mention that every second you weren’t swingin’ the racket you were fussin’ with that sweaty sloppy shirt, that was nothing but a rumpled mess. Were you feeling the heat? Evidently. When you weren’t tugging at your shirt, you were adjusting your cap, toweling the sweat from your face. Your hair was so drenched, the winds could’ve been blowing as fast as your serve and it would have still remained pasted to the back of you neck. Lose the Lacoste cap. And the shorts? A bit too baggy for my liking. Your butt was behind the times. Conclusion: Lacoste, like Roddick, you lost your cool and lost on the court too.
Readers: Comments? You agree? Disagree? Blog me.

Yancy: Who knows. I suppose my blog was visible to only me for a few hours? Hopefully you are seeing what I am seeing.
Again, there is much chit chat about Palin. She is back in the press, and I can see she will be a hot topic again. I’m done for the day – sorry for the late post. But hey, a girl deserves a break every once in awhile. Enjoy!
Gratefully your blog host,

Medical Scams, Cons and Rip-Offs
Chuck Whitlock
Bogus “miracle cures” and quack physicians probably have been around as long as the health-care profession. Con artists prey upon the unhealthy because sick people may be so desperate to find a cure that they will try any possible treatment, however expensive and farfetched.
These snake oil salesmen have been on the rise in recent years, as our aging population has more medical problems… millions of underinsured and uninsured Americans search for health-care options that they can afford… and the surging popularity of “alternative medicine” makes unscientific treatments seem more mainstream.
Sometimes it’s obvious when a claim is fraudulent — but certain scams and unethical practices are difficult to spot…
SCAMS
Cheap health insurance. Many of the more than 45 million Americans who are without health insurance are desperate to find affordable coverage. Disreputable insurance companies offer these people exactly what they want — health insurance at a low price, sometimes as little as $50 per month.
Most buyers are so thrilled to find insurance they can afford that they don’t pay attention to the fine print. Many of these policies have huge deductibles, scant benefits and other restrictions that make them virtually worthless. Most policyholders do not discover the problems until they have a serious health condition and receive the bill.
What to do: Look for a policy that covers doctor visits and protects against a major medical expense. A way to spot-check the quality of a policy is to look at the benefits for hospital stays. A good policy should pay $500 or more per day for the hospital room, with additional coverage for other hospital costs. An inadequate policy might provide only $100 a day. Wise: Contact your state’s insurance commissioner to find out if complaints have been filed against the company. Blue Cross/Blue Shield offers many reputable plans, and Kaiser Permanente has a good reputation for a health maintenance organization (HMO).
Natural appetite suppressants. Unscrupulous marketers claim that there are natural supplements that help you lose weight — but these supplements don’t work or have dangerous side effects. The most heavily promoted “appetite suppressants” include ephedra, garcinia cambogia and hoodia.
Ephedra is an herbal stimulant, and like other stimulants, it does suppress appetite but at the price of increased heart rate, nervousness and agitation. In large doses, ephedra has killed people, and the FDA has pulled it off the market, though it’s still available on the Web.
Garcinia cambogia (a fruit from Asia) and hoodia (from a succulent African plant) are not stimulants and seem to be safe — but they don’t work. No studies have shown them to be effective.
What to do: The only reliable cures for excess weight are consuming fewer calories and getting more exercise.
Organ transplants in developing countries. America’s organ donation program can’t keep pace with the demand for transplants. For patients languishing on waiting lists, flying to a developing country where organs can be purchased on the black market might seem viable. Before you board a plane to India, the Philippines, Hungary or Russia and agree to pay $1,000 to $100,000 for an organ, consider that you’re putting yourself in the hands of people who are more interested in taking your money than saving your life.
These people might find an organ for you — but you might not receive it until you’ve been milked for many times the agreed-upon price. Some patients are told at the last minute that someone else will pay more for the organ, which might or might not be true. To get the organ, you have to top this other offer. Even when patients do get their organs, their transplants often are performed according to medical standards that are not as strict as they are in the US.
What to do: Talk to your doctor about the best options.
UNETHICAL PRACTICES
Bonuses from HMOs and PPOs to doctors who skip useful tests. HMOs and preferred provider organizations (PPOs) often give cash bonuses to doctors who don’t perform pricey tests — even when those tests are in the patient’s best interest. They are essentially bribing doctors to scam their patients.
Example: Your HMO or PPO doctor tells you that he/she is going to spare you the invasive thallium stress test (where radioactive dye is injected into your bloodstream) and perform a routine treadmill test without thallium, though the thallium test is warranted.
What to do: When your HMO or PPO doctor tells you that you have a particular health condition, research that condition on a reliable Internet Web site, such as WebMD.com or MayoClinic.com. If the site mentions a test that your doctor has not performed, ask him why it was skipped. If the doctor’s response seems evasive, consider getting a second opinion.
Unqualified plastic surgeon. Many doctors have switched to plastic surgery in recent years, drawn by the lucrative nature of the specialty and its lower reliance on insurance payments. (Most plastic surgery procedures are elective and not covered by insurance.) No law or regulation prevents doctors from changing their specialty to plastic surgery — even if they have no background or training in this field. Patients likely have no idea that they are trusting their lives and appearances to what are essentially unqualified, untrained novices.
What to do: If you’re considering plastic surgery, ask the surgeon…
Are you board-certified in plastic surgery? He/she should be.
At what hospital do you have physician’s privileges? A general hospital is fine, but a university hospital is even better — university hospitals tend to have very high standards.
Who will be handling my anesthesia? Don’t trust a plastic surgeon who says he’ll handle it himself. He may be trying to cut corners and putting your health at risk in the process.

I’m so with u on this : ) I watched that fascinating play since 7am – Andy can play no doubt but his poor sportsmanship on top of his lame-o gear was just a weird American embarrassment, to me. You called it, Federer had it all going on, cool under presh and looking good ; ) – ZL

Thousands of jobs await health workers in Guam
By Mayen Jaymalin Updated July 06, 2009 12:00 AM
MANILA, Philippines – Employment opportunities are getting brighter for jobless Filipinos and other health workers.
The recruitment industry yesterday reported that thousands of jobs await Filipino nurses and other health care workers in Guam.
“Aside from construction workers, Guam will also be hiring nurses and other health care workers with the impending relocation of US marines and dependents from Okinawa,” recruitment industry consultant Manny Geslani said.
Geslani said the actual demand for health care workers would start by 2012 when the relocation has already been completed.
But Geslani said Filipino nurses and other health workers aspiring to work in the US colony could start preparing for the requirements this early by taking the necessary licensure examinations,
Aside from doctors and nurses, Guam will also need medical technicians in radiology, cardio labs, CT-Scan, occupational and physical therapists, medical transcriptionists and medical administrative personnel.
Deployment of Filipino construction workers to Guam is expected to start by the first quarter of 2010.
Guam officials were in Manila last week for consultations with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce, Philippine Association of Service Exporters, Inc. (PASEI), Philippine Construction Association on the hiring of Filipino construction workers.
But recruitment leaders cautioned workers that at this time, there are still no job orders available for Filipinos aspiring to work in Guam.
Recruitment officials said the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) is still drafting the proposed employment contract acceptable to Guam labor officials and the POEA.

Michelle, Zen Lill,
What do I do? Should I tell my farther that I have caught aids from the same man that gave it to my mother by fucking him uncovered as she did. Should I tell the authorities that when I found out that I have it, I let his pet rattle snakes out and went home. When they found him dead they ruled it an accident by snake bite.

Andy just choked. Federer didn’t win on his talent. Andy just choked as he always does. Last year Nedal stepped up and kicked Federer’s butt. Two great players played a game better than anyone else could at that lever and the best man that day won.
Andy played like the loser he has always been. Excuses when he chocks and bravado bragging when he wins. Murray would have beat Federer this day. Too bad he lost to that weak loser.

About 4 and a half years ago the USS San Francisco was stationed on Guam. We worked on it in a civilian capacity. The rumor was that it had a run in with an alien underwater craft in the Carline Islands. The conflict left a gaping hole in its bow.
The January 8, 2005 run in with the aliens injured more that 100 and killed three. The rumor was that a few of the injured and two of the dead were taken by the aliens.
Have you or anyone heard anything more about this incident?

I tune in to this blog to hear from the TAO. Now that that self centered asshole Howie has caused them to abandon your blog. I will not be tuning in to this site any more.
Some one gave you the advice to shut out the wimp. If you can’t figure out that he is only concerned about his own interests, you are going to lose most of your readers.
Howie just wants to be important. He wants to force the TAO to show “respect” to him. By that he means deference to him. He just wants the blog’s readers to admire his lofty position of being special to Carr.
So he brags about what Carr can do. Then he gets Carr to do horrible things to others so he can bragg about his power through Carr.
He then cries crocodile tears and apologizes. all the while bragging about the power of what Carr did.
He is a person who only cares about what he feels. The feelings and sufferings of others mean nothing to him. He is only concerned with his own aches and pains. He has probably been that way all his life so you can not expect him to change.
By now the TAO knows that he will promise anything to get what he wants. But he has demonstrated to them that as soon as things don’t go his way, he will be calling on Carr,
So you can be assured he will not be allowed aboard any ship of theirs. Now you need to get wise and ban the selfish bastard from you blog.
Let the asshole send in any thing he wants just don’t print it. No one is going to miss the braggart.

I agree with Larry. Howie reminds me of an old Star Trek episode. The one where the Enterprise picked up this young man who had the power to change things into anything he wished with his mind. He fell for the blond crew member that liked Capt. Kirk.
He followed her around and demanded attention from her much like Howie demanded attention from the TAO. He turned the other young women his age that tried to engage him into salt or small animals.
Lt Spock told Kirk that one day the boy would not back down to him so that it was logical that Kirk kill him or get him off the ship. In the end his alien handlers
IN the end the alien handlers came and took him screaming and hollowing back. Since I don’t think that Carr will be taking this immature selfish person back, you should get him off your blog.

Little-Known Benefits for Veterans and Their Families
David Houppert, Esq.
Vietnam Veterans of America
Although the military is required to tell active-duty personnel about veterans benefits before they leave military service, the amount of information is massive and the application process often is complicated.
Result: Many veterans don’t take full advantage of available benefits. In fact, an estimated half million veterans are not receiving the benefits to which they are entitled.
These benefits, which are administered by the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), are available to eligible veterans and their dependents — spouses, children — as well as their parents.
Here’s how veterans can get the benefits that they’re entitled to…
Service-connected disability compensation. These monthly, nontaxable payments are based on disability incurred during or aggravated by active military service. Generally, eligibility requires that the veteran’s military service was honorable. There must be evidence of the onset of disease, injury or disability during service, a current medical diagnosis and, in most cases, a connection (called a “nexus”) between military service and the current disability. (There are some disabilities for which the law presumes a nexus, such as exposure to radiation or toxic agents during service.) The monthly payment amount depends on the severity of the veteran’s disability and current condition.
Non-service-connected disability pension is available when the veteran’s service was honorable and included at least 90 days of active duty during a period of war, and the veteran is permanently and totally disabled as a result of a non-service-related condition. Eligibility is subject to annual household income thresholds set by the VA.
Other VA benefits offered to eligible veterans include vocational rehabilitation and employment training, educational assistance, home loan guaranties, life insurance and burial benefits.
Benefits for eligible family members include payments to veterans’ natural children who have certain birth defects, educational assistance and survivor’s benefits.
The VA also provides health care to eligible veterans and their dependents.
To learn more about veterans’ benefits, check the VA Veterans Benefits Administration Web site, vba.va.gov. Click on “Benefits” and select “Compensation and Pension” to find the publication Federal Benefits for Veterans and Dependents, which lists all available VA benefits, helpful telephone numbers and Web sites and current payment rate tables. The VA site also lists veterans’ benefits available from state governments. Or call 800-827-1000 to reach your nearest VA regional office.
Helpful: Because the claims adjudication process is so complex, many veterans’ service organizations (Vietnam Veterans of America, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Paralyzed Veterans of America, etc.) offer help free of charge.
Ask a qualified veterans service representative to assist you with your application and/or to help you appeal a denial of benefits. You can access veterans’ service organizations’ Web sites for information. For a list, go to va.gov/vso.

Zen Lill this may not be the recipe for soipan, but these recipes make greeat veggie burgers.
ompared with hamburgers, veggie burgers win hands down when it comes to nutritional value. Veggie burgers have far less fat, fewer calories and little or no cholesterol. While ground beef has no fiber, most veggie burgers have 3 g to 5 g per serving.
Even many nonvegetarians love veggie burgers because they are easy to prepare (microwave or broil), add variety to the diet and are quite tasty. My favorites…
DR. PRAEGER’S
CALIFORNIA VEGGIE BURGER
Per 2.8-ounce burger: 110 calories… 4.5 g of fat… less than 0.5 g of saturated fat… 0 g of trans fat… 250 mg of sodium… 4 g of fiber… 5 g of protein. Why I like it: Contains a blend of carrots, spinach, red pepper and other healthful veggies — as well as oat bran, a good source of fiber.
GARDENBURGER
BLACK BEAN CHIPOTLE
Per 2.8-ounce burger: 80 calories… 2.5 g of fat… 0 g of saturated fat… 0 g of trans fat… 250 mg of sodium… 5 g of fiber… 5 g of protein. Why I like it: Contains a blend of veggies, brown rice and black beans — and has a spicy taste.
MORNINGSTAR FARMS
GARDEN VEGGIE PATTIES
Per 2.4-ounce burger: 110 calories… 3.5 g of fat… 0.5 g of saturated fat… 0 g of trans fat… 350 mg of sodium… 3 g of fiber… 10 g of protein. Why I like it: Contains a mixture of veggies and soy protein.
