Who cares who celebs vote for? I don’t.

Posted by michellemoquin on August 21st, 2008

I know this is last weeks news, but I haven’t given my two.

Who gives a hoot who Angelina votes for? The bigger question is why is she still ‘undecided’? Does she not have a brain? She’s waiting to ‘make up her mind’. Obviously she doesn’t have one. (ouch)

“I have not decided on a candidate,” Jolie says, “I am waiting to see the commitments they will make on issues like international justice, refugees and how to address the needs of children in crisis around the world.”

…..blah blah blah.

Okay, so she’s done some humanitarian work around the world and she’s a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations. I won’t knock her for that. But do your research Jolie…for one thing…McCain wants to overturn Roe v Wade.  Oh but that’s right, you would be okay with that since you and Brad are raising your own little army of 20(?) No need for abortions here.  Who cares about other women having the right to choose.

What is it with this country that looks upon our celebrities as something special, just cause they grace the silver screen. They’re just people who can act and some aren’t even good at that. But that’s what happens when you don’t have royalty – we turn to the next biggest thing – celebrities! Give me a break.  It really bothers me that people look to celebs to help them decide, like they’re in the know, privy to something that we don’t know. Don’t be lazy and base your decision on hers or any other celeb. Do your own research, use your own brain. I know you have one.

Think I’m riding Jolie a bit hard?  Barely. I’m tame –  nothing in comparison to Roseanne Bar – Have you read her blog lately? I haven’t, but I did find this little read that she wrote recently.   Disclaimer: I am not a big fan of hers but I just had to post one of her writings, just to add a little humor to my day and hopefully yours.

After calling Voight a ‘used Tampon’ (whoa – now that’s a low blow – typical Roseanne.) She blogged

‘jon voight your evil spawn angelina jolie and her vacuous hubby brad pitt make about forty million dollars a year in violent psychopathic movies and give away three of it to starving children trying to look as if they give a crap about humanity as they spit out more dunces that will consume more than their fair share and wreck the earth even more. (just sayin’).

Also miss jolie says she likes mccain too and hasn’t decided who to endorse….huh? Aren’t you supposed to be somewhat enlightened, or do you not know that the african daughter you hold in every picture had parents who suffered and died because of the republican party’s worldwide economic assault on africa over the last few decades since reagan? whaaaa…??????!!!! (for that matter, the thai and vietnamese sons you are photo’d with weekly too!!!? who’s pictures you sell to raise money to help the poor? Their families are victims of America’s right wing military incursions too. Mccain wants to continue with the idea of war for profit…the americans are over that thinking now! They have drugged our troops and lower classes into supporting their oil business atrocities for long enough. We want to save not lose our souls thank you. Now go back to making your movies about women who love to handle big guns that shoot hundreds of people to death. Ps….it might be good for your asian and african children’s self esteem to know you support a brown man for the leader of the free world.)’

Hahha!!! love it. Of course, not that I give a hoot about what Roseanne thinks.  She has proven in her past political commentary that she doesn’t have a leg to stand on – Everyone, rightly so, gave her hell over her mouthiness awhile back, but I think she has a few good points here – you?

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Health info: I am diggin’ the info your posting – please show face.

Hi Jonolan: Need I say more? I briefly went to your blog and Like ZL I got caught on the cute kid too. Needless to say…that is as far as I got.

Hi ZL:  Oh, I wish I could’ve seen Obama dance – you know what they say about a man who can dance. The women are swooning now. Pictures of Obama over the bed…lights out- fantasy time. :)

Oh Yeh. I am in need of some nature right now. Stinson Beach is calling out to me. Come join me?

Hey Viv:  How are you? Can you give us an update with Tal and the Climax.

Hey Maddie: As always…you find that opening, slip right in, and rip it open wide. :)

Hi Doug: I know how optimistic you are but…even with women having the majority of the vote in this country…sorry many are stupid and brainwashed by their white husbands who would never vote a black man into the White House even if he was god. Let’s hope some of those women saw him dance – hey, whatever it takes to make them change their minds :)

Hello Kurt:  Welcome – thanks for commenting.  There are many factors when it comes to the voting booth. Changing ones mind is the cleanest one. We are all familiar with the ‘questionable votes’, ‘missing’ votes, and worse yet voters tempted with payment. It happened many years ago in the south when those with little sold their votes for 10 or 20 bucks. I don’t put anything past the repubs to do whatever it takes again to get their man in.  They will cheat and lie again.

Hi Elaine:  So you’re loving space and obviously doing a great job up there. Congrats for a job well done as well as feeling physically at ease with yourself. That is huge. It feels good when one can be proud of one self, yes? Good for you for taking a moment and recognizing the changes in yourself and for stopping for a moment…..to ‘be proud’. It feels like it is coming from your heart and not your ego. Good to hear from you.

ZL: Just caught your comment this morning…Oh, if only it was that easy to convert a racist.  One has to want to change. But it’s worth a try :)

Gratefully your blog host,

michelle ?

Thanks for responding to my email. It is still nice to hear from a person that I admire. I don’t know why I react that way towards black men. I do know that most of my female friends were of the same feeling. I do recall discussions on that line. But if I return and whether or not I get to keep this new power, I think I will choose your example and not be any more afraid of a black man than I would a white.

Kara loves your way of talking too. She said that statistics show that white women are the target of violence by more that 10 to 1 by white men as black women are by black men. So I suppose the odds would be in my favor as a white woman to worry more about violence from white men.

As for the politics thing, I would not vote for a man that told me up front that he did not care for my opinion that he was going to take away my choice because he knows best. Women who feel that way about abortion should still think. This man isn’t supporting their opinion. He could care less if they thought pro or con about abortion. He is doing what he thinks is best for them.

McCain doesn’t respect a woman’s right to choose. It doesn’t matter what the thing is a woman wants to choose, he feels that it is his choice to make. I will confess that I might have voted for him because he seems to be the one to trust on national security issues. That was until Kara pointed out that if one listens carefully to the spiel, one will notice that the claim to being an authority on national security he has is he was a prisoner of war. He makes mistakes about geography, combatants, and he compromises by allowing people to advise him who are in the employ of foreign governments.

Now that I have had turns at being in combat I know that what we hear about him being the one with national defense edge is bogus. Being a leader in times of international crisis requires character, knowledge of the peoples and nations involved and the ability to see solutions above combat. “Speak softly but carry a big stick” is still a very good foreign policy approach. We have the big stick and everybody knows it. What America needs is someone who can speak softly.

If I may, I would like to say a thing or two about Jonolan. I too have men in my family like him. They think that the women just eats up the bullshit that they hurl at us on a daily basis. We act like what they say is gospel until we are alone. Then we laugh at the windbags. We know that they are intimidated by black men. We notice how they talk when they are together watching sports.

They hate the fact that Tiger Woods is black, but they love the game he plays. We women have to be careful about the praise we heap on Tiger less it anger our men. When we are alone, we swoon over Tiger and a few others I will not name less my girlfriends make me.

Some white men are definitely intimidated my black men and they certainly would not like to see a black man in the White House. One of the Girlz said it right a while back. i remember how we girls talked about it and laughed. Yes it would be a kicker for white women to have a picture of a black man over their bed and our husbands unable to bitch since he would be the President of the United States of America.

If I’m back by election time I will vote for Obama, but for the above reason I don’t think he will win. There is just too much jealousy by white men like Jonolan for them to vote for a black man. Those same men have the ability to mislead the public in such a clever way that they can convince enough that Obama is whatever they want them to believe to keep them from voting for Obama. They would rather see the country go to hell in a rush.

Just look at the stuff Jonolan pushes on his site. He is a very literate man so he knows that it is full of lies. Yet, he boldly comes to this site and tries to woo us with his lies. He leaves a site plug so that he can woo us to his site to seal the deal.

There are millions of intimidated white men like him doing the same thing at every opportunity. It would be creepy if it were not so close to home. Our men are in a panic because a black man could become President of the United States. They just can not see that this time the best man for the job is black. They just see BLACK!

This race will be won or lost by women, white women to be specific. If we as a group can get past the jealous rantings of the men we love and respect, this country has a chance. If not, we will be worst that the people who were under the USSR. The only difference is we won’t know it until is is too late.

Jonolan, if I may make a suggestion, surgery would be a better option than destroying your country because you feel too inadequate. Besides I’m sure your wile loves you for more that the size of your penis.

    Just one white girl’s opinion

    Elaine

  2. Doug Says:

    Michelle,
I appreciated it when Paris Hilton, a true blonde, ;-) came out with her response to that old wrinkly white dude. She spouted of some interesting banter about oil and energy. I know it was written for her, but great nonetheless, as she stayed in her “character”.

I liked Rosanne’s diatribe about Jolie and her fam in reference to how our government finances the exact reason Jolie needs to be an ambassador in the first place. You and I talked about this before, and she can’t seem to make up her mind?! What is that about…oh yeah…stupidity!

    Elaine,
Perhaps, in reference to the comment that “If we as a group can get past the jealous rantings of the men we love and respect, this country has a chance”, I would say that getting past it is not this issue, but respecting yourselves enough to CHANGE these men’s ideas as what is right and fair and educating them to why you feel this is the case. Respect comes from when two people listen and appreciate eachother’s thoughts, needs, ideas and desires. If these men don’t do that, and you are trying to get past this, I am finding it difficult to see where the love and respect actually come from?

  3. Zen Lill Says:

OMG Mischa, I cannot stop laughing at Roseanne’s rant and the Jolie stupidity factor, her and Brad are so busy banging them out and snapping them up to look good, it’s starting to reek. I used to think she was doing good, but then why is she making yet one more big lipped shoot em’ up movie (answer: men will go see them, I have no interest as fascinating as her lips may be…) but then I am one who considers celebs just everyday Joe/Jane’s who spit their toothpaste in the sink just like the rest of us, only hopefully they have some talent, otherwise they’re commoners with no privacy and that must suck. Couldn’t care less about their private lives let alone who and how they choose to vote…got a reprive fr knowing all of that garbage living in Singapore, it was blissful.

Stinson Beach??! I’m in! When? You know I’ll just do another roadie so tell me, maybe we can go visit Mt tam where we were supposed to be meeting Azza right around this time of year, also? Is that nearby, could check a map but I’m writing here right now : )

Obama’s got the moves, I’d dance with him, he’s already got my vote and I don’t know about his stick size but he certainly shows though his easy groovin’ that he can roll with ‘it’- speak softly, be diplo, in response to whatever ‘it’ is, let’s hope I’m right…and let’s hope he gets the presidency or I’ll be researching another country to live in, don’t think I can watch the same same channel.

Doug, very nice sentiment about women and the ‘men we love’ but you came to your own logical conclusion in the last sentence, ‘…it is difficult to see where the love and respect actually come from…’ no further comment from the gallery of peanuts : )

Elaine, you and Kara can use my favorite tactic, which is to show your man that you know a few self defense moves and that you can shoot, NOT that I would ever carry a gun or use one on another human (though show me some of those nasty males harming women and I could justify it) and when I went once only w/C to a shooting gallery, he shit when I chose a Smith & Wesson 44 and shredded the brains and heart of the target, hahaha, the kick was hard for me to control but well worth it, overall it was friggin’ priceless, all the other men at the exec ‘retreat’ laughingly told him he’d better watch his ass, hahaha, makes me laugh just thinking about it, he’d tried to pawn
off a pretty 22 rosewood handled handgun as my ‘choice’ yeah right…having a decent roundhouse kick and letting them see it helps also. I’m a lover, not a fighter but I’m fairly prepared for anything that comes my way…
Thanks for the admiration : )

    Hi guys

I’m from the Netherlands. We girls here love your column. We also have our share of Jonolans here too. They always want to tell women what to do. But we stand up to the ones that peep their heads out and try to set the tone for policy to keep women in their place.

Now that you have stood up to this closet bigot he will not return. They are basically cowards. Evil little cock roaches that scurry along under the cover of darkness doing their dirt. And YES, YES, YES, they do have very tiny winnies. Sorry, Jonolan but it’s true, but of course, you know that.

SILENT BUT DEADLY CANCER DISARMED BY EARLY DETECTION

Ovarian cancer, long known as the “silent killer” since it was thought to have no symptoms in its earlier, more treatable stages, is not actually so quiet. This is news every woman should hear, loud and clear. A panel of cancer experts and advocacy groups recently identified symptoms they say should serve as early warning signs for ovarian cancer and recommend women who have them longer than two weeks should see their doctor. The goal is to save lives by making sure both women and physicians know signs of the early stages of this deadly disease, since the sooner it is caught the greater likelihood of survival.
I spoke with Barbara Goff, MD, director of gynecologic oncology at the University of Washington School of Medicine and lead author of several studies on ovarian cancer, to ask about what this new information means. Doctors have long considered ovarian cancer to have vague, hard-to-pin-down symptoms, she said. “Just recently we’ve been able to distinguish the symptoms of early-stage ovarian cancer from seemingly benign symptoms many women experience from time to time,” she told me.
    WHAT TO WORRY ABOUT…
The experts recommend that women who have the following symptoms daily or almost daily for more than a few weeks should see their doctor — preferably a gynecologist:
    • Bloating or increased abdominal size.
    • Pelvic or abdominal pain — typically below the navel, on one side or the other and made worse with exercise and intercourse.
    • Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly.
    • Urinary symptoms, including urgency or frequency.
Before you panic, realize this important point — you don’t have to worry about the bloating that typically accompanies your menstrual period or the indigestion you feel after eating a bowl of chili or too much ice cream. “We all have some of these symptoms from time to time,” said Dr. Goff. “But, if there is a symptom that is new for you or it persists for more than a couple of weeks, we recommend you go to your doctor. Odds are it won’t be cancer… but it is worth having it checked just in case.”
WHY THIS NEWS IS SO IMPORTANT
Contrary to the previously held belief that ovarian cancer only makes its presence known when the disease has reached a late and incurable stage, numerous studies have now confirmed that the symptoms listed above are much more likely to occur in women with ovarian cancer than women in the general population. Researchers finally have enough statistically significant studies that can distinguish the symptoms of ovarian cancer from day-to-day symptoms. “We now have an evidenced-based statement that these symptoms are predictive of ovarian cancer,” said Dr. Goff, who is a spokesperson for the Gynecologic Cancer Foundation.
Dr. Goff and her colleagues hope that earlier diagnosis will save more lives from this lethal disease. The American Cancer Society estimates there will be 22,000 new cases of ovarian cancer and 15,000 deaths from the disease this year, making it the most deadly female reproductive system cancer and the fifth most common cause of cancer death in women. Overall, about three-quarters of women with ovarian cancer survive one year after they are diagnosed, and nearly half (45%) survive longer than five years after diagnosis. But that figure soars to 93% when ovarian cancer is diagnosed and treated before it has spread outside of the ovary — though unfortunately, historically it has usually been diagnosed after that point, in which case the chances for survival decrease considerably.
There’s no screening test available at present for ovarian cancer, making awareness of symptoms all the more important. The risk factors for ovarian cancer include a personal and/or family history (mother, sister or daughter) of ovarian cancer or cancer of the breast, uterus, colon, or rectum… age over 55… never being pregnant… and taking estrogen alone (not with progesterone) for menopausal hormone therapy. A woman’s lifetime chance of developing ovarian and/or breast cancer is greatly increased if she inherits an altered BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene (short for breast cancer one and two). This genetic abnormality can be identified through a genetic screening blood test.
MISDIAGNOSIS HAS BEEN A MAJOR PROBLEM
That the symptoms are so non-specific has meant that many women with early ovarian cancer are told there’s nothing wrong or are given wrong diagnoses. “Misdiagnosis of ovarian cancer is common,” said Dr. Goff. “One study conducted in 2000 showed that a significant percentage of ovarian cancer patients were wrongly diagnosed with other conditions prior to their diagnosis of ovarian cancer.” She said that 12% had been told they had irritable bowel syndrome… 12% were told it was stress… 10% were told nothing was wrong… and 6% were diagnosed with depression. Thirty percent of these women were treated with medication for other diseases — and all subsequently went on to learn that it was, in fact, ovarian cancer that was causing their symptoms.
WHAT EVERY WOMAN NEEDS TO KNOW
    • If you have persistent symptoms, see your doctor. If, for no particular reason, you feel pain in your abdomen, experience bloating or find you are feeling full after eating only a bit, and especially if these symptoms last longer than a couple of weeks, see your doctor — soon. He/she will conduct a pelvic and rectal exam and, depending on the results, may order additional tests such as a transvaginal ultrasound or a CA125 blood test, which measures the elevation of an ovarian tumor marker.
    • Don’t be afraid to get a second opinion. If you feel your doctor hasn’t taken you seriously or you aren’t confident in the opinion or diagnosis, seek a second opinion, Dr. Goff urges. “People are so worried about insulting their doctor. It’s no different than getting a job done in your house. You’d get more than one bid, wouldn’t you?”
    • If diagnosed with ovarian cancer, seek care from a gynecologic oncologist. Cure rates among women with ovarian cancer are much higher if they are cared for by a gynecologic oncologist (a surgeon who has trained extensively in treating female reproductive cancers), says Dr. Goff.
    • Spread awareness, it’s critical. Right now, because there is no screening test, awareness of the symptoms of ovarian cancer remains our first and best opportunity to fight this deadly disease.
