Slacker Uprising

I like Michael Moore, and I dig his movies. You? I know some of you aren’t fans but if you are or even if you aren’t, you might want to catch his latest: ‘Slacker Uprising’, (love that title!) only available through signing up on line.

How appropriate. - It’s all about the coming election and getting the young peeps out to vote – a good thing. – Republicans are saying that his ‘stunts’ to get out the votes amounts to bribery!  Ugh! puhleeez – as if politicians are saints…having never greased palms before. Yeah right.

Interest you? Are you a ‘slacker’? – Don’t be – Time to get off your Top Ramen bum! Go to Slacker Uprising and sign up. It’s free and it will be available for you to download on September 23rd. Pretty cool eh? Thanks Doug for the heads up on this!

“This is being done entirely as a gift to my fans. The only return any of us are hoping for is the largest turnout of young voters ever at the polls in November.” – Michael Moore

THANKS MICHAEL!

Hi Zen Lill! I agree with you…life is stranger…and weirder…and more fucked up, than fiction. Soap and Space Opera’s are reality –  My blog has proven that over and over. I find it fascinating and sad.

Doug…that is a wild story about SP…again life is stranger…what kind of woman would do that? Palin’s life plot thickens…I’m staying tuned.

Okay peeps….We are off to a music and wine festival - Cheers and have a good Sunday!

You’re very welcome, my dear! There are many that do not like Michael Moore and have never seen any of his films. This is you chance to educate yourself a bit, than simply not knowing what you don’t like about someone. His drive to educate the younger voting public comes at a great time.

On my blog today, http://bdgroupllc.blogspot.com I have information for all on some of the campaign practices we are experiencing today. For some the viewing may be difficult to watch in its content, but therein lies the story.

  3. Health Info Says:

Q: I suffer from chronic bad breath. What can I do?
A: The first step is to identify the underlying cause. Bad breath can result from poor oral hygiene, infection, periodontal disease, poor-fitting dentures and crowns, or dentures that aren’t cleaned regularly. Professional dental care is needed to treat periodontal disease and infection and to correct ill-fitting dentures and crowns. Proper tooth brushing, flossing and brushing or scraping of the tongue daily are important to remove food particles, which breed bacteria that can cause bad breath. Medical conditions that can lead to bad breath include sinus or upper respiratory infections, uncontrolled diabetes, xerostomia (dry mouth) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (chronic backup of stomach acids into the esophagus). Medications also can be to blame, especially drugs that dry out the mouth and prevent saliva from washing away bacteria and particles — such as antihistamines and some antidepressants, including sertraline (Zoloft) and bupropion (Wellbutrin). If your bad breath persists despite good dental hygiene and professional dental care, see your internist to determine if a medical condition or medication is the cause.

How to Haggle Like a Pro… Even if You Hate Haggling

    Max Edison

Haggling is the secret to paying less for goods and services. Haggling isn’t just unseemly horse trading, it’s a form of negotiation — and it’s perfectly respectable. What you need to know to haggle successfully…

    PREPARATION PAYS
There is room for negotiation in virtually every purchase, even at large department stores where you can get a discount if you can point out a defect in a product.
Important: Good hagglers always carefully inspect items that they’re interested in.
Biggest mistake made by hagglers: Lack of preparation. A seller who is aware that you are guessing or bluffing will be unlikely to give an inch.
The most important thing you need to know: What constitutes a fair price for what you want to buy. When making a major purchase, it’s a good idea to go to several places first to make price comparisons…
For items such as appliances, electronics and jewelry, visit several stores. Also, since prices are lower on the Internet, check on-line to see what comparable merchandise sells for — that’s the price you want to beat.
If you are house hunting, learn the prices paid recently for comparable houses in similar neighborhoods. To get this information, ask a real estate agent or visit your county tax office and look at sales records.
For automobiles, find out how much the dealer paid for the vehicle., including how true market value (TMV) is calculated.
Second-biggest mistake made by hagglers: Not knowing the tricks used by salespeople. Since you can’t avoid a salesperson’s negotiating ploys, your best defense is to recognize what he/she is doing. You then have the chance to use some of those tactics yourself. Examples…
A car salesman says, “I’d love to make this deal with you, but my manager says no way.” Counter that with, “Let me speak with the manager.”
When offering you a loan, a banker says, “You’ve got to take this insurance policy for death or disability for us to approve the loan.” Counter that with, “I know that I don’t have to have insurance for you to make the loan.”
    HOW TO HAGGLE
Haggling can be courteous and even friendly, but it’s essentially psychological warfare. Helpful…
Play hard to get. If a seller can tell that you’re in love with an item, he knows that he will be able to get top price. Pretend to be only mildly interested and don’t go back too many times to look at the item.
If you make an offer, let it stand. If you make an offer and it’s accepted, the deal is done. If a counteroffer is made, you can then make another offer. This is how the game is played. If the seller accepts your offer and you say that you’ll be back next week, you may not have a deal the next week.
If you and the seller can’t agree on the price of an item, ask the seller if he’s got anything that he can throw in on the deal.
Examples: Ask automobile dealers to throw in floor mats, a bicycle rack or free service for six months… with computer and stereo equipment, ask the seller for free cables and free installation… with VCR or DVD players, ask for free movies.
Never tip your hand. If you are willing to pay $100 for an item, offer $80 or even $60. You never know — the other guy might take it. Even if he passes or counteroffers, he’ll feel like some progress is being made.
Nail down early whether or not sales tax is included. Why go through 20 minutes of haggling only to start over when it comes to sales tax?
Ask for the cash price, if you are able to pay cash for an item.
Background: Merchants lose about 2% when a credit card is used, so they may be willing to take a 2% bite if you pay cash.
    Take advantage of a seller’s weaknesses. Examples…
Politely point out any flaws in the merchandise. If the item is outdated in any way, let him know that. This works best with digital cameras, flat-screen televisions and computers where new models are introduced seemingly every day.
Be aware that people will be more or less willing to haggle under different circumstances. The two main factors are time and attachment to the object. A home owner who is having a two-day garage sale knows that whatever doesn’t sell is going back to the attic or to the dumpster. On the other hand, there may be an emotional attachment (this was Grandma’s dresser!). If someone won’t part with his stuff for a reasonable price, look elsewhere. Seasonal merchandise, such as patio furniture and fur coats, can be bought at huge savings for buyers who can think (and haggle) months ahead.
    WHO BEST TO HAGGLE WITH
You can haggle with just about every seller, but you may find the greatest success with…
Small-town merchants or stores that are independently owned. Their owners are much more likely to dicker than a large outlet like Best Buy or Home Depot. Make sure that you talk to a decision-maker, such as the owner or at least the store manager. Many times, a mom-and-pop store will try to match its larger competitor’s sale prices.
Jewelry stores. These retailers have markups that are usually 300% to 400% above wholesale, so they have lots of room to haggle.
Car dealers. Haggling with car dealers works best when bad weather keeps other customers away, near the end of the month (when their sales quotas are due) and from August to September (when the new models are coming out).
Banks. They will argue over percentage points on loans, services such as free checking and even fees from bounced checks. Always ask to have fees waived. Go up the chain of command until you find someone who has the power to say yes.
Chains and discount stores will cut prices under the right circumstances, such as buying a display model, an item with very slight damage or an air conditioner in October.
Individuals who place ads in the paper using the words “best offer” or “OBO” (or best offer). These people expect a counteroffer to the price they’re asking — and they’re doing you the favor of saying so!

    Hi Michelle

    Sir

I am trying to get permission to print a message we discovered from an alien prince to his missing princess. It is a poetic love letter written in english to an alien woman who was on a planet that was once occupied by humanoids.

It seems that no one is sure of the true source. Wouldn’t you like you readers to see the message. I think that it is beautiful and a little sad at the same time. I see no reason why we should lose our emotional connection to the events we encounter in space.

    It’s your call, shall I?

    Sir

    Miki

  6. Nicole Says:

So you let “space” aliens in but you keep earth aliens out. I’m from France. I find you election process fascinating.

Your vice presidential candidate who could become president is permitted to be sequestered away from the electorate because the press is “hostile.”

So when will you find out just what she stands for? Will it be after the election? Will it be when she takes over if the president passes?

What’s with you americans? Why don’t the voters demand that she give an interview? Aren’t they interested in where she stands on the issues that concern the american people?

I don’t think any European country would stand for that kind of stalling by one of its candidates.

    Nicole

  7. Enrica Says:

This is so funny. America who is so fond of telling us south American countries how to a better democracy is accepting being treated by its candidates as if it were a “third world” Junta lead regime.

  8. Zen Lill Says:

I know you know I’m not a big fan of MM’s saw a few movies and read one of his books, he has valid points but I consider him an ‘entertainment windbag’ of the same ilk as Rush Limbaugh et al from both party lines, just differing viewpoints, but that’s me.

I do like this clip though, I wrote a while back here, the biggest O concern and general election concern is ‘new young voter turn out’ so I can be with him on this, love the top ramen bribe, hahaha…

Btw, Maddie, anonz, anyone? I think that having a USS carrier in the region re: Georgia and Russia conflict, is pretty standard isn’t it? US always has carriers cruising the Med/Red/Indian and all other oceans so why was that anything to fret about, the US and it’s USS fleets are always at the ready, with aid or guns, whatever…not sure why was this big news the other day.
I’m not challenging you, just curious…we can all think what we want but militarily it seems innocouos yet not, same as any other military action by this or any other country.
Are we the US supposed to be after their oil pipeline as well as all of the ME oil now also?
Too many q’s…not quite sure how you’d go about securing an accurate voting count either, if the Repugs want to rig, they’ll do it, no matter who or how the paper trail is tracked, no?

Unless…Michael Moore can get more peeps out there to landslide Obama on election day, hmm, let’s hope so…

Sorry, don’t mean to rain on any parade but the above requires just a bit more in depth info re: both topics for me to be satisfied, that’s me, always left wanting more info : )

  9. Freida Says:

Let me get this straight. Palin won’t talk to reporters because they are mean. But she will be able to stand up to the “evil” leaders of the world. I guess they will be nicer than america’s main stream media.

Ah Mischa, almost forgot, had a quite long and interesting male Muslim commenter response to http://www.lilliandevin.com/2008/08/22/the-quran-says-what-beating-the-wife-is-ok-with-whom/ your Muslim women following might want to check it out.
I WAS going to start my meant-to-be-helpful men’s series tomorrow but I’m postponing it a day, this is just too good to pass up, having a polite interaction with a Muslim male who took the time and energy and seems to want to be helpful in interpreting the Quran as well as Islamic men correctly, well, how often are you going to get that?
…it should be fun as usual…I love a good rantfest that is inclusive of many opinions, makes for a edgy dreamin’ Zen kind of day (my favorite kind) : )

  11. Cady Says:

Sarah Palin will be missing from action Sunday a.m.
As is The Ticket’s custom, a post listing the entire roster of appearances on this Sunday’s interview programs will pop up Saturday at noon PDT (3 p.m. EDT).

But here’s an advance heads up, in part because of who WON’T be found on any of the chat shows

Three of the four now-official candidates on the major-party presidential tickets are scheduled to sit down for questions: Democrat Barack Obama on ABC’s “This Week,” his running mate, Joe Biden, on NBC’s “Meet the Press” and Republican John McCain on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”

Absent from this list, of course, is the GOP’s star of the moment, the not-so-long-ago obscure governor of Alaska who is McCain’s running mate, Sarah Palin.

Since she was thrust onto the national stage a week ago, her appearances on it have been tightly regulated by the McCain campaign: a few side-by-side campaign stops with him and, of course, her big speech to the GOP’s convention Wednesday night.

Today, top McCain aide Rick Davis indicated the campaign isn’t in any hurry to slot Palin for a Sunday show appearance — and will do so only if he and other strategists determine it serves the ticket’s purposes, not because some may view it as a required initiation for a major political player.

Appearing on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” show, Davis said, “I’d never commit to anything in the future. … Our strategy is in our hands, not the media’s. We’re going to do what’s in our best interests to try to win the election. If we think going on TV news shows are [sic] in our best interests, we’ll do it. If we don’t, we won’t.”

Palin still will be busy this weekend. She’ll campaign Saturday with McCain in two key states — Colorado and New Mexico — and she’ll deliver his campaign’s weekly radio address. That’s one of those trappings of the presidency McCain has borrowed (notwithstanding the barbs his forces like to sling at Obama along these lines).

    – Don Frederic

Okay, so tell me again why we Europeans should defer to the US as an example of a country whose people have common sense.

    Cady

  12. Donna Says:

I’d like to know why Palin thinks that us Hilary voters would ever consider voting for a woman who campaigns by being sheltered by a men who don’t think she has the brains to be interviewed by men in the MSM.

    Donna

  13. Brenda Says:

    WOW!

Now that was bad for us. Once again we look like hypocritical fools to the outside world.

“We’re going to do what’s in our best interests to try to win the election. If we think going on TV news shows are [sic] in our best interests, we’ll do it. If we don’t, we won’t.” Rick Davis

Okay republicans tell me again how Mclies claims that he would rather win a war that lose an election. I guess he would rather win an election than leave his country with a qualified vice president in the advent of his death.

    Brenda

  14. Sylvia Says:

I’m watching Chris Wallace on Fox interview Rick Davis. When Chris Wallace asked when Palin would be available for an interview by the MSM. His answer IF or when we decide it is in our interest we will allow her to do an interview.

What is wrong with American voters? Are American as dumb as it appears? Who votes for a candidate who refuses to be asked questions to determine if he or she is qualified for that office?

Rick Davis must be counting on the American voters’ stupidity. I am astounded. This is a country of morons. If they didn’t have the nuclear bomb, they would be laughed out of the UN.

All I keep hearing is the “impact” she continues to have. What impact? She read a generic prepared speech.

Heretofore considered intelligent republicans have lined up to pretend that this woman is qualified. That tells me why the American economy and its war strategy is the shape it is in. These men will tell the American any lie to stay in power. They are so far from “country first” as to make it criminal for them to be saying it.

If Mr. Obama was not black, the democratic candidate would have a 20 plus point lead. America is a country full of bigots and not all of them are white. They suffer from a black phobia.

We Europeans believe that if Mr. Obama wins, America will have the greatest President it has ever had.

    Sylvia

  15. Craig Says:

    Sylvia

You nailed it. We Americans are a huge collection of outright bigots known as republicans and closeted bigots known as people who claim they don’t know enough about Obama.

My family is full of both. Hell I was a closet bigot until I decided that my country needs Obama more that he needs it. I hear family members saying if a black gets elected President, the “niggers will be trying to head our major corporations and universities next.”

I apologize for the use of the N word, but it is used all the time by bigots when they discuss blacks. There is plenty of hatred and racism going around. Most whites can not accept that if Obama wins it may signal to blacks that they don’t have to depend on some white man to get what they want from the political system.

White families are being torn apart by this election. I have members who were so close who now refuse to talk to me. I now understand what it felt like down south to be called a “nigger lover.” These are regular church going democratic supposed to be liberal white people. Only God knows how they will vote when they enter those booths.

    Craig

  16. Earthlings Says:

    Zen Lill

I didn’t read all of the bullshit your commenter was making to justify a man’s right to beat his wife. It does not matter what the “reason” Allah was supposed to have given the man to beat his wife. The fact is a God, Allah, Jesus, Budah or any other true God would not give one sex the right to beat another sex.

Whether or not a man beats his wife does not erase the fact that the koran gives him the right to do so, however adeptly it is portrayed. Any woman would prefer a civl law that guarantees a woman’s right to be free of being beaten by a man, husband or not.

The elephant in the room was that there is no place where Allah gave the woman the right to beat her husband. Are we supposed to believe that no husband ever cheats on his wife? If the God is not fair to all his people it is not God, it is a man’s interpretation of a thing he would like others to accept as God.

Bullshit is still bullshit whether or not it has remained unchanged for thousands of years.

The test of a true philosophy or religion is the freedom one has to claim it as his or her own and the freedom one has to discard it.

Islam fails both tests. It is a cult religion that is forced upon most of it members by those who are conquered or who are the children of parents who are practitioners of Islam. And once becoming a member of the Islamic cult one can only leave it under penalty of death.

Under those circumstances, is it any wonder it is the world’s largest religion. But that says more about the cruelty of the cult towards defection and the fear that it engenders to those who would defect, than it does about the good it imparts to its members.

Men everywhere are very clever when it comes to justifying oppressive systems towards women and other minorities. He did not leave a name, perhaps it is because one seldom signs bullshit when it is first floated.

The biggest turd of all being his proud claim that – “But I have realized one thing: like it or not, it’s a man’s world out there; even in the most adamant face of feminism. And yes, “…because Allah has given the one more (strength) than the other…” (Surah Nisa, Chapter 4, Verse 34.) And it would be vain to argue over who has more physical prowess. That is why perhaps Islam concentrates on “gender equity” rather than “gender equality”. One’s duty is to maintain. The other’s is to look after. Well, it might not be always as reductive as that. However, basically I guess it’s just a division of responsibilities rather than a ‘demeaning’ of them. ”

Asshole it is a man’s world over my dead body. It is Our world, woman and man’s equally. Don’t mistake the refusal of a few brutal men to allow women their rightful place in the world as making it being a “man’s world.”

As for this part of the quote – “And it would be vain to argue over who has more physical prowess.” – is concerned. I would venture to say that it would be just as vain to argue who has more mental prowess. Arabic men have done nothing to distinguish themselves in the modern world intellectually. Perhaps they should give their women a chance at an equal education so that the Arabic world could join the rest of the world intellectually. It should be obvious that the brains reside in their women, the men can’t tell this islamic bullshit from camel shit. The women know better. That’s why they are forced into a life of captivity.

Your at the end of that shitty comment said it all about who you are. Bring that bullshit to this arena and the women here will tear you a new asshole. How’s that for a little “gender equity?”

Would you whining islamic wimps have the same feeling if western men said that you inept islamic creeps should be content with civil equity rather than civil equality with the rest of the world? I think not. Yet you misogynists would try to force civil equity upon the defenseless half of your population. I hope you and the rest of those little penis, pedophiliac islamic men never achieve equality with the rest of the world until you are willing to give it to your female citizens.

Zen Lill you have my permission to copy and paste my comment where the little penis wonder can read it.

I’m going to e-mail Azir (he did leave a name and website) to let him know of my blog entry response, then I will release my response which mirrors most of what you said above, nicer wording but that’s just me, I don’t rip new assholes unless I’m absolutely sure a gentler approach wouldn’t be more helpful. I’m not trying to change Islamic men or women – not my job…just trying to open minds to better possibilities. I would be pleased to cut and paste your response and bring Azir’s attention to it : ) bc in the end, he probably could use a new asshole : )

Re: Palin and the media, not trying to justify that lack of common sense (who made the claim US had any of that anyway? Other countries do totally weird shit which seems to lack common sense also, ah but we’re supposed to be above it bc we’re some kid of super power? ha!) – anyway, I am patiently waiting for the debates during which I am relying on O and Biden to kick some major ass, and why shouldn’t Biden treat Palin as any other candidate we know she’s a pit bull wearing lipstick.

I wonder if she knows she’s being used as a mouthpiece for all the shit McCant wants to say but needs to keep distance from, and she’s coming off like a ‘tough cookie’ to all those repug women (not the men, who’s kidding who here) who are just creaming their jeans over having a woman for veep – even if she strips away half their women’s rights, oh please…off with her freakin’ head already

Good thing I’ve got to go bc I could rant all night.

    Catch you later, Zen

When you call I respond. I love when you ask a question. It is so sexy! Oh so shoot the male in me. You could be my vice or president any day. Forgive me for admitting that I prefer the “vice” where you are concerned.

I see you and Madaline are in agreement about another male trying to convince women that they are not really being abused.

Now for your second or third, etc foreign policy lesson.

Aircraft carriers permit a nation to reach the shore of other nations with the arsenal carried by the airplanes aboard that aircraft carrier capable of hitting any target within that nation.

Yes, and no on the position of aircraft carriers. Yes if the nation whose waters it is in has no way of defending itself against the superior power.

No, if the nation is also a nuclear power with aircraft and similar naval power. In short the big boys respect each other. Russia is a world nuclear power second only to the USA. She not only deserves respect, she can demand it by sending one of her aircraft carriers to sit off the coast of the USA in retaliation.

Its called provocation by one side and saber rattling by the other. The aircraft carrier that the US has deposited off the coast of Russia capable of launching a nuclear strike on any point in Russia would cause Russia to lose face if it did not respond in some way. Russia will because she has to to maintain her status as a super power.

Please challenge me Sweetness. Anyone afraid of a challenge does not feel equipped to meet it. I may or may not be up to the challenge, but I relish the test. Meeting you would be my most distinct pleasure. Challenge me Zenfully!

This action by the bush boys was a calculated effort to produce an international incidence by way of a response by Russia. They want to create an atmosphere of fear to shift the presidential issue to one of national defense.

The pipeline you asked about simply carries oil from one point to another through Georgia via their pipelne. Russia knows that a deliberate disruption of that pipeline could provoke a war between the US, its allies and Russia. Unless Russia could procure a military agreement with China and some other nuclear power, it would not take on the Allies. So Russia would not deliberately interfere with the pipeline.

All talk about such an interference is made by the bush boys to incite fear of a possible conflict between Russia and the USA. The Russian bigwigs and the people would probably balk at risking their investments in the US and their US partners who invest with them in Russia. Big money has no country allegiance. It is the little people of those countries that get psyched up about god and country, patriotism and service.

Big money just makes more money off the situations it creates to force the use of those militaries they get to provide goods and services to for an unconsciously greedy cost.

THE HEALTHIEST FOOD YOU NEVER HEARD OF

The hemp plant has an illustrious history — for many thousands of years people spun sturdy textiles from its fiber while also valuing its seeds and oil for food. The puritans brought hemp to this country, making it an important crop in the New World. Today, children and adults alike enjoy using hemp twine to make casual beaded necklaces and bracelets. It has unsavory aspects too, thanks to the fact that it is the same species as the marijuana plant (Cannabis sativa). While it is illegal to grow hemp in this country, food made from hemp, grown in Canada and other countries, remains perfectly legal and is actually very, very good for you.
In fact, hemp is a nutritional gold mine containing antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, protein and other nutrients. Specifically, hemp boasts omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids in a ratio of 3:1, which is generally considered the optimal ratio. Additionally, hemp contains significant amounts of what Gero Leson, D.Env., an environmental scientist and scientific advisor to the Canadian Hemp Trade Alliance, refers to as “super” polyunsaturated fatty acids, gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) and stearidonic acid (SDA). Hemp also provides a balanced and very digestible protein, along with significant concentrations of both tocopherol and tocotrienol vitamin E, magnesium, manganese and other minerals and vitamins.
    HOW TO EAT HEMP
Since hemp is not typically available at your local grocery or served in restaurants, it’s valid to wonder, how do you eat it? Edible hemp is available as oil, nuts, seeds and seed cake (the protein and fiber-rich flour that remains after the pressing for oil) and as an ingredient in such foods as salad dressing, nutrition bars, breads, cookies, granola, nut butter, pasta, frozen desserts and more. Dr. Leson says the oil is delicious in salad dressing or used to lightly sauté meats or vegetables. It should not be used for frying, since high temperatures damage the highly unsaturated fatty acids and produces unhealthy by-products. The hemp nuts are richly nutritious — Dr. Leson toasts them lightly to add to yogurt, cereals, sauces and sprinkled over meats. He says that hemp protein powder, used in shakes, is a great source of fiber, too.
Dr. Leson told me that some liken the taste of hemp to sunflower oil, but he disagrees. He says it is better described as having a rich, nutty taste. Dr. Leson recommends looking for top-quality brands such as Nutiva, Manitoba Harvest and Living Harvest. You can find hemp foods at Whole Foods Market and other natural food stores throughout the US, as well as on the Internet.

Unfortunately Moore doesn’t really address the biggest reason for low voter turnout: work obligations. Millions of Americans can’t make it to the polls because they work one or two jobs Tuesdays and don’t have time. If we really wanted higher voter turnout, we’d start by making Election Day a national holiday: http://www.thepoint.com/campaigns/make-election-day-a-national-holiday
