We went to ‘Indulgence’ and did I indulge.

Oooooh this is a toughy for me this morning. I am not used to going out on a school night :), partying like there’s no tomorrow, only getting 5 hours of sleep (this factor alone makes me cranky), AND keeping my commitments such as getting up and posting my blog for the day. Throw in going to class – nope, not today. Sorry, Ms. Crystal, if you’re reading this, this girl is playing hooky today. There is only so much I can do in the state I am in.
Doug and I were invited to attend Harry Denton’s 12th Anniversary ‘Indulgence’ party last night, at his signature Harry Denton’s Starlight Room, and being that it feels like we haven’t ‘indulged’ in awhile, we decided to go out and do just that. Harry ‘indulged’ us by seating us at this perfect booth right in the heat of it all while continually ‘indulging’ us with champagne and delightful conversation. Our good friend Steven surprised us with his presence, and joined us at our booth…I was just loving being surrounded by my favorite men. Could it get any better? Yeah, get me out on that dance floor for a spin and my night is just perfect. Of course that is exactly what I did and yes it was just perfect.
I’ve known Harry for over 15 years now. I met him when I was dancing at his first establishment ‘Southside” in the south of Market in SF. I wanted to cocktail at Southside, so while shaking it up on the dance floor with him (Harry is too much fun to dance with), I offered up my services and he bit. The very next week this girl was practicing how to carry a tray above her head, because I was just hired in one of SF’s hottest bars and I had no experience. I handled it I must say, dropping only a tray full of drinks on top of my head once. Since then Harry and I have been good friends.
It’s always fun at the Starlight Room and has a sweet place in my heart. Not only because I adore Harry and had the wonderful opportunity to design the gowns that the cocktail servers wear, and not only because it is on top of a very famous and old hotel, the Sir Francis Drake, with one of the most spectacular views of San Francisco, but because Doug and I were so fortunate to have our wedding reception in this special place. It was not only beautiful and one of my happiest memories, but a memorable celebration, a party to say the least (people still talk about it) and each time I am there it is as if the party never ended. The Champagne flowed then and it did last night. Harry knows how to throw a good party.
Oh and later on in the evening, Doug and I decided to escape onto the fire escape and enjoy a view from outside…seems we were not alone. Harry came out and joined us for a ‘smoke’ and a little chit chat…and yes, we do have a few celebs here in SF…seems Sean Penn was ‘indulging’ out on the fire escape too.
And to carry on in the mood of ’indulgence’, Doug and I zipped over to ‘Sparkey’s’ a 24-hour joint that we used to visit after a night of partying. Once again we ‘indulged’, only this time in pancakes, eggs and fries. Ya gotta love late night munchies…however, somehow I remember it tasting much better years ago.

I’m told that we as Girlz will from time to time be deposited on a planet so that we can learn first hand about its inhabitants. Well if I’m selected as a Girlz, I’ve found the planet the I would like to be left on. I call in Lechun, it’s designation is vs79843.
It is a planet of almost pure silicon. The inhabitants plant and harvest crystals as food. Their outer layer of skin is as smooth as glass. They regulate their own body temperature according to their mood.
Their babies are born as a by product of three beings depositing, I guess, two sperm donors and an egg donor into a paper thin very fragile crystalline cocoon like sac.
According to their custom, if a baby is formed, then the three can legally become a family unit. I don’t know if it lasts for life or if they have couple issues like we do on earth.
They don’t have a very advanced civilization. I mean according to earth yes, they have the capability of traveling to several of the unoccupied planets in their solar system. It is a system of 28 planets. Eight of them contain life. Two of the unoccupied planet could sustain earth like humans. They have a central molten iron core and an ozone layer that surrounds the planet’s life sustaining gasses. One of the two is lightly smaller than earth. The other is about 2 1/2 times as large as earth.
Four days ago we flew over the smaller one and “carved it up into our personal fiefdoms. We pretended we were conquering bitches and this was our prize. What a beautiful pristine planet. Waterfalls, trees as tall as earth mountains; mountains that reach into the clouds. The equator the smaller one, we named her EVE, revolves around a mini sun about 3/4 the size of ours which itself revolves around the central star of this solar system.
These two planets are too far out to be reached by the technology any of the 8 inhabited planets of this solar system. The 8 inhabited planets have little knowledge of the other. Only 5 have a working knowledge of the others.

Last night was certainly fun had by all! Hanging out at Harry’s Starlight Room is certainly one of our, my favorite things to do in SF. Great Place!! Not only was Sean Penn there, but Harry’s biggest star performer for his Sunday brunch show. She was decked out and sequenced to hell in little bits of fabric and hanging out in poses on top of the Grand Piano.
It is always great to go to that place, and it’s nice to see that your photo is still on Harry’s “Wall of Stars”!

It’s Not Just About Wrinkles

hen people complain about looking older, they usually talk about lines and wrinkles.
However, most people who are dissatisfied with their appearance have color or texture problems as well that make them look older than they are.
Well-known treatments, such as Botox and collagen, are very effective for lines and wrinkles, but they don’t affect color and texture issues. About three-quarters of patients will notice a dramatic improvement when they treat these two important factors, too.
COLOR
Color problems are among the easiest skin defects to correct. They basically fall into two categories — browns (such as age spots and freckles) and reds (usually due to engorged or broken capillaries).
Browns. Brown spots go by many different names — sunspots, liver spots, age spots, etc. They’re almost always caused by sun exposure, which triggers excessive activity in some of the skin’s pigment-producing cells. Most brown spots appear on exposed areas of the skin, such as the face, arms and back of the hands.
On the other hand, blotchy brown areas that don’t have a clear border are usually caused by an imbalance of female hormones, such as during pregnancy or in women taking birth control pills.
Virtually all brown defects can be removed with laser treatments, which cost $400 to $1,200 per treatment. A less expensive but more time-consuming approach is to lighten the brown areas with exfoliation.
Best home treatment: A product with 8% glycolic acid used daily. Glycolic acid is one of the alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs). It dissolves keratin, the uppermost layer of dead skin. Over-the-counter products, such as Aqua Glycolic Face Cream, Glytone Day Cream for Dry Skin and Kinerase Cream, lighten brown spots and stop the formation of new pigment cells.
Glycolic acid begins to work within two weeks — and will significantly reduce brownness in four to six weeks. Important: Continue to apply a sunscreen whenever you are going outdoors. Repeated sun exposure will cause the brownness to return.
Also helpful: Twice-daily applications of over-the-counter topical vitamin C, such as Stallex C Complex Rescue Serum or SkinMedica Vitamin C Complex. Topical vitamin C lightens brown spots and blocks cell-damaging free radicals. It can be used in addition to glycolic acid.
Skin cancer warning: If there is a change in a brown spot’s or a mole’s size, shape or color (other than lightening from treatment) or if it bleeds, itches or becomes painful, contact your dermatologist immediately.
Reds. Most people have one or more red spots or lines on their faces. They’re often present on the cheeks or alongside the nose and usually are due to dilated or broken capillaries.
Common types: Telangiectasias, which appear as tiny straight or curved red lines… spider hemangiomas, which are raised red bumps with red lines emanating from the center… or cherry hemangiomas, flat or dome-shaped spots. Another type of redness is caused by rosacea — an acne-like condition that’s characterized by red blotches (telangiectasias) that appear intermittently on the cheeks and nose.
Best home treatment: An over-the-counter topical sulfur preparation — such as Rezamid Acne Treatment Lotion or Sulforcin Acne Treatment Lotion. Sulfur shrinks blood vessels and helps reduce redness. This can work for rosacea, too, but test an area the size of a dime first to see how your skin reacts.
Because it’s difficult to eliminate skin redness entirely, I usually advise patients to conceal it by using color-correcting makeup — a green-tinted foundation works best. Neutrogena makes a good one.
Diet: Certain foods have dilating effects on blood vessels, causing them to temporarily increase in diameter. The most common perpetrators are alcohol and spicy foods. Also, certain medications and vitamins (the most common of which is any form of niacin, one of the B vitamins) are known to cause dilation of facial blood vessels and thus to increase their conspicuousness.
TEXTURE
Young skin is smooth, with a noticeable “slip factor” when you run a finger across the face. Older “dull” skin feels rough, or there are “bumps” when the finger passes over enlarged pores.
Both of the main texture problems — enlarged pores and dull, flaky skin — are caused by the retention of dead skin cells. Skin cells are supposed to shed every 28 days — but not all cells do this. This results in an uneven accumulation of dead cells.
Best home treatment: Exfoliation with glycolic acid. People should start with a product that has 8% glycolic acid. The concentration can be increased to 10% or 15% if needed. Bonus: Exfoliating can remove early precancerous cells along with the dead skin cells.
In-office exfoliation treatments: There are two types of in-office exfoliation — chemical, with a prescription glycolic acid treatment… and mechanical with microdermabrasion. The latter involves the use of a machine by a properly trained doctor, nurse or esthetician that bombards the skin with sterilized aluminum-oxide crystals. It immediately strips away dead cells and leaves the skin looking uniform and fresh.
In-office treatments cost $100 to $200 per treatment. You will need six to 10 treatments done at one- to two-week intervals.
CONTOUR
After about age 40, just about everyone notices an increase in lines, wrinkles and sagging skin. These and other contour problems usually are treated with products such as Botox and/or “filler” materials, such as collagen.
Botox can cost $400 to $1,600 per treatment, depending on the area done, and lasts about three months. Fillers are $600 to $2,000 per treatment and last three to nine months, depending on the area done and the filler used.
The main contour problems and the best treatments…
Frown lines (the vertical lines between the eyes) and forehead lines (horizontal lines across the forehead) are known as dynamic lines because they’re most visible when the underlying muscles move. Injections of Botox often can eliminate these types of lines, but when the injections wear off in about three months, they have to be repeated.
Marionette lines run from the nose down to the corner of the mouth. They’re caused mainly by the age-related loss of fat and skin elasticity. Botox can’t be used for these lines because it can paralyze the entire cheek muscle and prevent smiling. A better approach is to inject collagen or another filler, such as Restylane. These products add volume to the skin and fill out the hollow contours.
Crow’s feet, the lines that radiate from the corners of the eyes, often can be improved or eliminated with Botox. In about 20% of cases, patients require a combination of Botox plus collagen.
Smoker’s lines on the lips (also called “lipstick lines” because lipstick can “bleed” into the tiny crevices) will disappear when injected with a very fine form of collagen. Most patients also are given injections of Botox to reduce muscle contractions that cause the lines.

Well yeah…it’s hard to say how this thing will unfold in November.
Really, I don’t think the polls are reflecting the bigger picture.
Sure the news likes to talk about how Palin has energized the GOP base and how large the crowds have been for McCain/Palin speeches… but, none of those folks would support Obama anyway (for whatever reason). And, I don’t personally feel there’s enough of them compared to the rest of us who realize that we don’t need another 4 years of Repubs in WH.
Nobody is reporting about how many of us are turned off by Palin, and throwing support over to Obama…
Really, once the infatuation wears off, and she’s finally allowed to do interviews, and she abandons that tired script that’s always on the podium flapping in the wind, etc it’ll be a different thing.

I am so tired of hearing about Senator Palin.They say that the Republican Party will not let this person do interviews. They don’t have to. CNN is giving this person a platform which is allowing this fiasco to continue. I cannot turn to CNN without seeing how great Palin is, What Palin did today, Where Palin is going tomorrow, How many White Women are flocking to Palin Camp. No one is debating that Palin is a Woman nor are we doubting that she is a Barracuda (Her own words). What we all are disturbed about is if something happens to McCain this Woman will be in Charge of AMERICA. Please stop saying that White men will not support Obama. If this is true then GOD BLESS AMERICA because we are headed for disaster if we continue this nonsense surrounding Palin and get her and McCain into the White House. Has anyone noticed that on the Republican Campaign Trail, McCain is no longer speaking. Palin is doing all the talking.
