Economic Elite vs People Of The USA (Part I)

Posted by Michelle Moquin on February 17th, 2010

Good morning.

While perusing the Huff Po, I was reading a few comments from an article that held my interest. And one of the comments lead me to another site, which lead me to another site, and landed me to this article written by David DeGraw of AlterNet, From his report ‘The Economic Elite vs People Of The USA’.

The Economic Elite Have Engineered an Extraordinary Coup, Threatening the Very Existence of the Middle Class

The economic elite have robbed us all. The amount of suffering in the United States of America is literally a crime against humanity.

“The American oligarchy spares no pains in promoting the belief that it does not exist, but the success of its disappearing act depends on equally strenuous efforts on the part of an American public anxious to believe in egalitarian fictions and unwilling to see what is hidden in plain sight.” — Michael Lind, To Have and to Have Not

We all have very strong differences of opinion on many issues. However, like our founding fathers before us, we must put aside our differences and unite to fight a common enemy.

It has now become evident to a critical mass that the Republican and Democratic parties, along with all three branches of our government, have been bought off by a well-organized Economic Elite who are tactically destroying our way of life. The harsh truth is that 99 percent of the U.S. population no longer has political representation. The U.S. economy, government and tax system is now blatantly rigged against us.

Current statistical societal indicators clearly demonstrate that a strategic attack has been launched and an analysis of current governmental policies prove that conditions for 99 percent of Americans will continue to deteriorate. The Economic Elite have engineered a financial coup and have brought war to our doorstep…and make no mistake, they have launched a war to eliminate the U.S. middle class.

To those who feel I am using extreme rhetoric, I ask you to please take a few minutes of your time to hear me out and research the evidence put forth. The facts are there for the unprejudiced, rational and reasoned mind to absorb. It is the unfortunate reality of our current crisis.

Unless we all unite and organize on common ground, our very way of life and the ideals that our country was founded upon will continue to unravel.

Before exposing exactly who the Economic Elite are, and discussing common sense ways in which we can defeat them, let’s take a look at how much damage they have already caused.

Casualties of Economic Terrorism, Surveying the Damage

The devastating numbers across-the-board on the economic front are staggering. I’ll go through some of them here, many we have already become all too familiar with. We hear some of these numbers all the time, so much so that it appears as if we have already begun “to normalize the unthinkable.” You may be sick of hearing them, but behind each number is an enormous amount of individual suffering, American lives and families who are struggling worse than they ever have.

America is the richest nation in history, yet we now have the highest poverty rate in the industrialized world with an unprecedented amount of Americans living in dire straights and over 50 million citizens already living in poverty.

The government has come up with clever ways to downplay all of these numbers, but we have over 50 million people who need to use food stamps to eat, and a stunning 50 percent of U.S. children will use food stamps to eat at some point in their childhoods. Approximately 20,000 people are added to this total every day. In 2009, one out of five U.S. households didn’t have enough money to buy food. In households with children, this number rose to 24 percent, as the hunger rate among U.S. citizens has now reached an all-time high.

We also currently have over 50 million U.S. citizens without health care. 1.4 million Americans filed for bankruptcy in 2009, a 32 percent increase from 2008. As bankruptcies continue to skyrocket, medical bankruptcies are responsible for over 60 percent of them, and over 75 percent of the medical bankruptcies filed are from people who have health care insurance. We have the most expensive health care system in the world, we are forced to pay twice as much as other countries and the overall care we get in return ranks 37th in the world.

In total, Americans have lost $5 trillion from their pensions and savings since the economic crisis began and $13 trillion in the value of their homes. During the first full year of the crisis, workers between the age of 55 – 60, who have worked for 20 – 29 years, have lost an average of 25 percent off their 401k. “Personal debt has risen from 65 percent of income in 1980 to 125 percent today.” Over five million U.S. families have already lost their homes, in total 13 million U.S. families are expected to lose their home by 2014, with 25 percent of current mortgages underwater. Deutsche Bank has an even grimmer prediction: “The percentage of ‘underwater’ loans may rise to 48 percent, or 25 million homes.” Every day 10,000 U.S. homes enter foreclosure. Statistics show that an increasing number of these people are not finding shelter elsewhere, there are now over 3 million homeless Americans, the fastest-growing segment of the homeless population is single parents with children.

One place more and more Americans are finding a home is in prison. With a prison population of 2.3 million people, we now have more people incarcerated than any other nation in the world — the per capita statistics are 700 per 100,000 citizens. In comparison, China has 110 per 100,000, France has 80 per 100,000, Saudi Arabia has 45 per 100,000. The prison industry is thriving and expecting major growth over the next few years. A recent report from the Hartford Advocate titled “Incarceration Nation” revealed that “a new prison opens every week somewhere in America.”

Mass Unemployment

The government unemployment rate is deceptive on several levels. It doesn’t count people who are “involuntary part-time workers,” meaning workers who are working part-time but want to find full-time work. It also doesn’t count “discouraged workers,” meaning long-term unemployed people who have lost hope and don’t consistently look for work. As time goes by, more and more people stop consistently looking for work and are discounted from the unemployment figure. For instance, in January, 1.1 million workers were eliminated from the unemployment total because they were “officially” labeled discouraged workers. So instead of the number rising, we will hear deceptive reports about unemployment leveling off.

On top of this, the Bureau of Labor Statistics recently discovered that 824,000 job losses were never accounted for due to a “modeling error” in their data. Even in their initial January data there appears to be a huge understating, with the newest report saying the economy lost 20,000 jobs. TrimTabs employment analysis, which has consistently provided more accurate data, “estimated that the U.S. economy shed 104,000 jobs in January.”

When you factor in all these uncounted workers — “involuntary part-time” and “discouraged workers” — the unemployment rate rises from 9.7 percent to over 20 percent. In total, we now have over 30 million U.S. citizens who are unemployed or underemployed. The rarely cited “employment-participation” rate, which reveals the percentage of the population that is currently in the workforce, has now fallen to 64 percent.

Even based on the “official” unemployment rate, just to get back to the unemployment level of 4.6 percent that we had in 2007, we need to create over 10 million new jobs, and most every serious economist will tell you that these jobs are not coming back. In fact, we are still consistently shedding jobs, on just one day, January 27, several companies announced new cuts of more than 60,000 jobs.

Due to the length of this crisis already, millions of Americans are reaching a point where the unemployment benefits they have been living on are coming to an end. More workers have already been out of work longer than at any point since statistics have been recorded, with over six million now unemployed for over six months. A record 20 million Americans qualified for unemployment insurance benefits last year, causing 27 states to run out of funds, with seven more also expected to go into the red within the next few months. In total, 40 state programs are expected to go broke.

Most economists believe the unemployment rate will remain high for the foreseeable future. What will happen when we have millions of laid-off workers without any unemployment benefits to save them?

Working More for Less

The millions struggling to find work are just part of the story. Due to the fact that we now have a record high six people for every one job opening, companies have been able to further increase the workload on their remaining employees. They have been able to increase the amount of hours Americans are working, reduce wages and drastically cut back on benefits. Even though Americans were already the most productive workers in the world before the economic crisis, in the third quarter of 2009, average worker productivity increased by an annualized rate of 9.5 percent, at the same time unit labor cost decreased by 5.2 percent. This has led to record profits for many companies. Of the 220 companies in the S&P 500 who have reported fourth-quarter results thus far, 78 percent of them had “better-than-expected profits” with earnings 17 percent above expectations, “the highest for any quarter since Thomson Reuters began tracking data.”

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the national median wage was only $32,390 per year in 2008, and median household income fell by 3.6 percent while the unemployment rate was 5.8 percent. With the unemployment rate now at 10 percent, median income has been falling at a 5 percent rate and is expected to continue its decline. Not surprisingly, Americans’ job satisfaction level is now at an all-time low.

There are also a growing number of employed people who, despite having a job, are still living in poverty. There are at least 15 million workers who now fall into this rapidly growing category. $32,390 a year is not going to get you far in today’s economy, and half of the country is making less than that. This is why many Americans are now forced to work two jobs to provide for their family to hopefully make ends meet.

A Crime Against Humanity

The mainstream news media will numb us to this horrifying reality by endlessly talking about the latest numbers, but they never piece them together to show you the whole devastating picture, and they rarely show you all the immense individual suffering behind them. This is how they “normalize the unthinkable” and make us become passive in the face of such a high causality count.

Behind each of these numbers, is a tremendous amount of misery; the physical toll is only outdone by the severe psychological toll. Anyone who has had to put off medical care, or who couldn’t get medical care for one of their family members due to financial circumstances, can tell you about the psychological toll that is on top of the physical suffering. Anyone who has felt the stress of wondering how they were going to get their child’s next meal or their own, or the stress of not knowing how they are going to pay the mortgage, rent, electricity or heat bill, let alone the car payment, gas, phone, cable or Internet bill.

There are now well over 150 million Americans who feel stress over these things on a consistent basis. Over 60 percent of Americans now live paycheck to paycheck.

These are all basic things every person should be able to easily afford in a technologically advanced society such as ours. The reason we struggle with these things is because the Economic Elite have robbed us all. This amount of suffering in the United States of America is literally a crime against humanity.

This is Part I of David DeGraw’s report, “The Economic Elite vs. People of the USA. ” AlterNet will run Part II in the coming days.

Readers: What do you think of DeGraw’s  write? In light of Anonz’s comment the other day, as well as past comments, could this guy be far off from the truth? He’s linked all of his ‘facts’. You be the judge and do your own research. Stay tuned for Part II.

Zen Lill: Okay so maybe the term the ‘little penis’ wonders are soo 2009 too. Who needs the tag line – Let’s just call it what it is: Racism. I’m just sick of it – We all know where it stems from…between the crotch…Oh I just couldn’t help it…Okay I’ll stop. I’ll be civilized.

Bob: Ain’t that the truth.

Suz:  I like it – here’s another one for you: DORMITORY. When you rearrange the letters: DIRTY ROOM.

And while I’m at it….Billy are you still reading? Here’s one for you: “Those who get too big for their britches will be exposed in the end.” I hope you are doing okay.

Anon: Okay…you must be a friend having a little fun with me. I haven’t been out in public in my bathing suit in quite some time. And when I have it has been with friends only – fess up c’mon…who are ya? First name…and I’ll know. ( I think :)

Zuvan: You are too darling. Don’t let anyone convince you to get married if you want to start a business. Boys will always be there and this opportunity with your sister may not. Go for it. I wish you and your sis good luck!

Peter: Wow Guam changing back to its original name – that’s kind of a big deal.

Miranda: Thanks for opening up and sharing your story. I’d say that your husband is probably feeling a little threatened right now. You used to always dance only with him, and now you are on many men’s dance card. Good for you for letting yourself enjoy more of what you love. And although it seems you are being very respectful of your husband’s feelings, and you just really want to shake your booty and have some fun, (I am like this too – love to dance! It’s never about the man I am dancing with, it’s all about the music and if he happens to be a great dancer that inspires me, well that is just icing on the cake then.) your husband is probably wondering ‘what will you engage in next’.

In regards to when do you sleep with this potential lover? Well..you’re talking to a woman who really wasn’t much of a dater. I fell pretty quickly into relationships the moment that I felt something more, so I am not the best judge. And honestly it has been so long, I can’t remember how many times I dated any guy before I slept with him. These days it is a lot less than it used to be.

However I do have an opinion on the matter. Since you are not looking for marriage and you just want some lovin’ on the side, I wouldn’t suggest that you hold back on sex. Since sex is really what you’re out there to experience, and not necessarily another relationship,  if I am reading you correctly. That being said, I’m not saying to just give it up to any man on the first date either.

Not being experienced in the extramarital sex arena, I can only advise using some common sense, a condom, and your keen intuition. And I would also suggest being frank with Frank or who ever he is :), let him know what’s going on, and what the boundaries are by laying out some ground rules. Make sure that you can trust the man/men to be discreet, as Joan pointed out. There’s probably men out there who are…and if he’s got a good thing going he won’t want it to end, so hopefully he’ll keep his mouth shut. I wish you luck in your new venture and finding a discreet male companion.

I am not encouraging infidelity, nor am I judging you. As a mature woman, you will do what you choose, just as men will do what they do. That’s all I have to offer. Perhaps some of my readers will chime in and give you some additional/better advice from ‘experience’.

I have more to say to others, but this write is long enough for today.  I will resume tomorrow as usual.

Lastly, greed over a great story is surfacing from my ‘loyal’(?) readers. With all this back and forth about who owns what, that appears on my blog, let me reiterate that all material posted on my blog becomes the sole property of my blog. If you want to reserve any proprietary rights don’t post it to my blog. I will prominently display this caveat on my blog from now on to remind those who may have forgotten this notice.

Gratefully your blog host,

    Dangers of Medical Identity Theft

A thief uses your Social Security number or insurance data to get free medical treatment — or to collect insurance money for services that were never performed.

Problem: This can cause incorrect or fictitious information about you to appear in medical databases — leading to incorrect treatment or future refusal of insurance benefits. Thieves change the address to which claims and statements are sent, so you may not know of their actions for years. In addition, patient privacy laws can make it harder to find out about phony information — and make doctors reluctant to change errors, for fear of liability.

Self-defense: Every year, get a copy of your medical records from all of your health-care providers and a list of benefits paid in your name by your insurer.

Question any charges or payments that you do not recognize — and contact the police if you suspect fraud.

Miranda, i do not live in the USA. And I am not sure that you do. But in my country it is fairly easy to find that extramarital affair. My suggestion to you is that you take the time to get to know the man before you give yourself to him. I usually wait until we have had at least three dates. Then I allow him to get really serious about the petting and if he goes down on me I wait to see if he tries to enter me without putting a condom on.

If he does I do not allow him to and I refuse to have sex with him. Afterwards I have a couple more dates with him but my intention is to drop him. I believe if a man will attempt to have sex with me without a condom he is careless about everything else in his life.

But most importantly, he will have sex with other without a condom whether you make him do it with you with one. Why play russian roulette with your health. When you are out just for sex or you are looking for a long term companion, you do not want one that will disregard his own health for a few minutes of pleasure.

HI Mischa, I’ll admit I haven’t read yet today, systemic poison oak is now systemic infection, oh and it feels lovely : ) I have a whole renewed respect for those with chronic/terminal illnesses, this shit is minor and yet I am ruled by it – temporarily. BUT, I wanted to address one thing…

Jack, I am not shrill and have never been prone to histrionics with males or females, it’s just not part of my emotional make up and demeanor that I’ve reparented myself with. You are correct, my father was a strong personality, ruler of the household (or so he thought) and all that BS, he actually was a great example at times of how NOT to act with others and that my dear Jack is WHY I am not only not shrill (oh and he was, more than necessary, though I heard he had quite a large penis so I don’t get that : ) oh and he was defintely prone to histrionics, practically reinvented holidays into hell on earth for one or another of my mothers brothers or anyone else who got in his big way, any/all he felt superior to, hee hee, I loved him anyway, but wow, what a jerk he acted like at times…fortunately for him, he had me, and yes I was a daddy’s girl if there ever was one, BUT, he’d wanted a boy and so he raised me with that also, imagine a child his heart melted over (I look just like him, handsome MoFo that he was, hee hee) and a child that he respected that was – gasp – a female with – gasp – a mind of her own. I can imagine how challenged he felt at times and maybe that is why he kicked my ass a few times, sheer anger overtook that need to control a female, all his females…

I only reveal that bc he left me with a very communicative way of dealing with men…people in general and so for that I am thankful and grateful to have had such dealings with a male that outwieghed me two to one. He’s gone now so I hate to show his down side like that, but he knows how he acted – and to his credit, he spent a lot of years making up for it before he died. He is forever forgiven for hideous behaviors and I never hold any mans shortcomings against another so it’s all just a story to me now, just thought I’d give you my two on what sometimes ‘strong’ men are like, so conrol/strong/ruler of roost shit – that’s not true strength…what he did on later years, now that was true strength.

PS did not marry daddy but thanks for taking the gtime to analyze my non-shrill Lillness : )

Be back to comment on the womens’ comments later, now there’s some seriously interesting stuff there ; )

    Caio, Zen Lill

  6. Health Info Says:

ALLERGIC TO NEW CLOTHES? FORMALDEHYDE FINISH MAY BE THE CAUSE

It may seem like the punch line to a bad joke, but it wasn’t amusing to an Ohio woman when she developed an itchy, inflamed and blistering rash after wearing her newly purchased bras from Victoria’s Secret. The suspected cause — formaldehyde. The claim is widely disputed, but it does focus awareness on a common allergen, formaldehyde.

It is known to be a toxic chemical but formaldehyde-based resins are commonly used in the production of a wide variety of products, from shoes to upholstery to household cleaners. Formaldehyde-based resins are frequently applied as a fabric finish to make garments more durable — i.e., more wrinkle-resistant, color-proof and stain-resistant. Fabrics typically treated with formaldehyde-based resins include rayon, blended cotton, corduroy, wrinkle-resistant 100% cotton and synthetic-blended polymer fabrics.

    A POTENT ALLERGEN

Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen and also a potent allergen, cautions Audrey Kunin, MD, founder and CEO of DERMAdoctor (www.dermadoctor.com) and coauthor of The DERMAdoctor Skinstruction Manual.

Some people have no apparent reaction when they come into contact with formaldehyde, but others who are sensitive or allergic to it may experience skin swelling, redness, itching and blistering upon contact or even days later.

Formaldehyde allergies can be identified through patch testing and doctors typically prescribe topical cortisone cream and/or oral antihistamines to treat them. Dr. Kunin also recommends soothing compresses (such as Domeboro, available at http://www.bayercare.com/domeboro_tablets.cfm) to cool skin and relieve itching, stinging and inflammation.

Whether you have a known formaldehyde allergy or not, it is good practice to wash all new clothing before you wear it. For those who do have such allergies — or indeed any allergies — it’s especially important to do so, as people who have atopic dermatitis or a history of contact dermatitis often are more sensitive. In fact, some very allergic people may not be able to wear these treated fabrics at all, even after they’ve been washed.

Not all clothing is produced or shipped with formaldehyde-based resins, though fabrics that are permanent press, wrinkle-resistant, color-fast or stain-resistant are more likely to be. Better choices are natural fabrics, including those labeled as 100% silk, 100% linen and organic or eco-friendly cotton or, among synthetics, those made from 100% polyester, 100% acrylic or 100% nylon. After all, even the neatest or most attractive apparel won’t look good with a rash.

Another bad thing about the hordes of military coming to Guam without the proper consideration for improving Guam’s Infrastructure is traffic congestion.

Traffic on Guam will be at its worst in 2014 because there will be 80,000 more people here and ongoing construction, according to the draft Environmental Impact Statement for the pending military buildup.

Some of the island’s northern and central roads will carry nearly twice as many cars as they were designed for and the wait at some intersections could be five times longer.

“Generally, there is a substantial increase in volumes on roadways from 2008 to 2014, and then a modest decrease in volumes on roadways from 2014 to 2017,” the impact study states. “These changes are most noticeable on roadways with direct access to (Department of Defense) property, such as the main cantonment area located on Route 3.”

Route 3, which is the road to the proposed Marine Corps base in Dededo, will be at 115 percent of its designed capacity during peak morning and afternoon in 2014, south of the main gate, the report states. The section of road north of the gate would reach 90 percent capacity at most during peak hours, which is not congested, the environmental report states.

The window to submit public comments on the draft EIS closes today, but Guam’s dialogue about traffic congestion must continue, said Simon Sanchez, a Harvard-trained urban planner.

Sanchez is also chairman of the Consolidated Commission on Utilities. He said the military buildup would bring massive growth to Guam in a few years.

Traffic congestion is a common price of growth, he said.

“If you want growth, you have to deal with some of the adverse parts of growth. The (opposite) works as well, if you don’t want those impacts, then you’ve got all you’re going to get,” Sanchez said. “It’s really hard to think of any opportunity in the future that doesn’t come with tradeoffs.”

The military buildup won’t be the first economic boom that increases traffic congestion on Guam and it won’t be last, Sanchez said. For example: Guam’s tourism boom in the late 1980s built hotels, created jobs and modernized a “sleepy industry.” It also brought traffic, Sanchez said.

The federal government needs to invest more in fixing Guam’s antiquated road system.

Miranda, I do live in the US and I agree with Heba. Men will lie, cheat, and steal to get between a woman’s legs. Often once successful, they will brag about their conquest and move on to the next.

My suggestion is to choose very carefully. As Michelle has not had the experience I have as a married woman with several liaisons under her belt or as I like think between the sheets, I think that you should listen to those who have been in the war.

It is a war and you had better treat it as such. Michelle was correct that you should use condoms. Get them at a distant drug store not one in your neighborhood.

The real question is where you are going to hide them from your husband. If he discovers them, he will know that you are having an extramarital affair. Men are just as nosy as women so take nothing for granted.

I usually buy them before the date and throw away the unused ones. It is expensive but in the 12 years I have been doing this, I have never been caught. I have been married for 19 years and when I suspected my husband of having an affair two years into the marriage, I cried myself to sleep on many a night.

The woman with whom he had been having the affair when i confronted her at an office party told me I had two choices. I could divorce him, or keep him, but that a man who has done it once will do it again. Only he will try to be more careful the next time some of the time.

She said that if I kept him I would get two other choices: One I could just put up with it or two I could find out what all the fun was about. She said that she would show me pictures of her and my husband if I would allow her to make love to me.

She said that it was a common fantasy of my husband to fuck both of us at the same time. She said that she slept with him because she was gay and it insured that she would continue to advance at the company.

She said that is was a common fantasy of little dick men to want to have more than one woman at a time. It made them feel bigger that they were. At the time I was so mad that I agreed without ever intending to screw that bitch.

She suggested a time for us to meet. It was romantic and their was lots of champagne before she brought out the pictures. By the time I saw the pictures she had fingered my pussy to the point of screaming or satisfaction.

In the end it didn’t matter whether it was her fingers and tongue or the too small dick of my husband, I thought. Boy was I wrong, she gave me the best organism I had had in my life.

Then she steered me to men. I have been on my own ever since. I have since had better organisms, but not better consideration and advice.

Thank you, thank you thank you Michelle.

Seeing my name in print makes me too happy. I got my sister to come she hit my name and the words moved to the day I wrote to you. It was great, so great. My sister Jamilia meaning the beautiful one and she is beautiful. Men come around from everywhere with proposals. She has been married 3 times and still gets proposals.

She wants to know if she can be a girlz too on your blog. She says she will take me with her when she leaves to go to Nigeria. My parents have objected but she says I can run away like she did. I will, I will I will.

    Thank you Michelle
