Limtiaco Becomes First Female U.S. Attorney For Guam and CNMI
Posted by Michelle Moquin on May 1st, 2010
Peter: After I posted my blog yesterday I thought, “Hmm…Peter, that was a nice tease but this woman deserves the full monte. And in order to honor that, we need a pic yes? Just trying to one up ya. :)
GUAM – History was made today. Guam Attorney General Alicia Limtiaco is now the first female U.S. Attorney of Guam and the CNMI.President Obama nominated her two months ago and she has been confirmed by the United States Senate.
Limtiaco got her law degree from UCLA and has worked in both the public and private sectors.
As AG, she took a particular interest in preventing internet crimes against children, ID theft and cyber security.
She’s also served more than seven years as a prosecutor and acting chief prosecutor in the AG’s office, placing emphasis on the prosecution and prevention of white collar crime.
Readers: I have the tendency to focus on the plight on women, because I feel that it is important that the world is aware and stays aware. The plight of women needs to stay in the forefront until there is no plight to speak of.
And most of the time I get so hooked into bringing women’s issues to the forefront that I sometimes forget to address and recognize the women that are breaking new ground. They too deserve blog time. They are an inspiration to all other women of the possibilities and ambitions that are truly attainable. They are the women that we look up to…the women that encourage us and give us the courage to continue….they are the women who give us hope.
So, again, a big congratulations to Ms. Limtiaco! I love seeing women succeed…I wish her the utmost success in her new position as Attorney General.

Randoff: Thanks for your confidence in me and for offering a place for me. I’ll give it some thought. Okay, I gave it some thought…and I think not. But thank you. :)
CM: Hi there. I’m not sure how one could give oneself away by just posting a comment to one of my writes, unless you make a reference in your comment of some info that you and I share, like the one you posted yesterday.
Although, that being said, we’re talking a long time ago, and a time where partying was the fave pastime. And if you know me, you know I am such a lightweight. So…sorry girl. Can’t say that I remember that scene as well as you do, so I am pretty clueless to your identity. Give me a hint of something more recent.
Still…I’m delighted that you decided to chime in. I hope this won’t be the last. And if I do have an ‘aha!’ moment, I promise I will honor your anonymity. :)
Zen Lill: Thanks too for the kind words and confidence in me, but….see above comment to Randoff :)
Lastly, greed over a great story is surfacing from my ‘loyal’(?) readers. With all this back and forth about who owns what, that appears on my blog, let me reiterate that all material posted on my blog becomes the sole property of my blog. If you want to reserve any proprietary rights don’t post it to my blog. I will prominently display this caveat on my blog from now on to remind those who may have forgotten this notice.
Gratefully your blog host,

HOW TO BE SURE YOUR DOCTOR’S HANDS ARE CLEAN
The very thought of asking a doctor or nurse to “wash up” would give some people hives — the gall!– but by now, we all know that unwashed hands, especially in a hospital or other medical setting, can spread very dangerous infections.
In an attempt to make this less difficult for people who feel uneasy at the thought of making such a request, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has made a video you can see online that shows a way to do this comfortably — and effectively.
The five-minute video urges hospitalized patients to make sure that everyone who touches them — including doctors, nurses and other health-care professionals — cleans hands first, either with soap and water or an alcohol-based sanitizer.
As the video says, health-care providers know they should do this — but as you’ve undoubtedly seen with your own eyes, sometimes they don’t.
In fact, studies suggest that although 90% of health-care providers say they wash their hands before patient contact, about half the time they don’t.
These lapses literally cost lives. Here in the US, hospital patients get about 1.7 million infections annually while being treated for something else… and hospital-acquired infections are responsible for nearly 100,000 deaths each year.
So how do you make this awkward request? The video shows an encounter that unfolds like this:
“Doctor, I’m embarrassed to even ask you this, but would you mind cleansing your hands before you begin?”
“Oh, I washed them right before I came in the room,” the doctor replies.
“If you wouldn’t mind, I’d like you to do it again in front of me.”
“Sure, no problem.”
“Thanks, doctor. I know how important hand hygiene is in preventing the spread of infections.”
IT WORKS!
While your conversations won’t go exactly the same, this basic strategy does work. In one study of 17 hospitals, researchers found that after watching the video, twice as many patients said they would be willing to ask their doctors or nurses to wash their hands.
Doctors and nurses reported being much more likely to be reminded to wash after the video was widely shown throughout the hospital… and even more reassuring, they reported being more comfortable with being asked to wash their hands.
In other words, the video broke through an unwritten taboo about the caregiver-patient relationship.
According to John Jernigan, MD, chief of the interventions and evaluation section of health-care quality promotion at the CDC, “Improving patient care is a team effort, and we’re trying to find ways to include patients as part of that team.” Now, it’s time to always make sure that your doctors are on your team.

If you are anyone you know has children’s versions of Tylenol, Tylenol Plus, Motrin, Zyrtec and Benadryl, you should return it to the place you purchased it from.
It is being “voluntarily” recalled supposedly because they do not meet “quality standards.” Here’s the news notice.

Last Updated On: 5/1/2010 12:10:16 PM
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Food and Drug Administration says it is investigating after a health-care company recalled more than 40 over-the-counter infant’s and children’s liquid medications.
McNeil Consumer Healthcare issued the voluntary recall late Friday in the United States and 11 other countries after consulting with the FDA.
The recall involves children’s versions of Tylenol, Tylenol Plus, Motrin, Zyrtec and Benadryl, because they don’t meet quality standards.
In a statement Saturday, the FDA says it was reviewing procedures at McNeil. The company is based in Fort Washington, Pa., and appears to be the sole source of the problems.
The FDA says the potential for serious medical problems is “remote,” but it is advising consumers to stop using the medicine.

Notice how they don’t mention the name of the offending company. One would think that the safety of the public would outweigh the potential for a company to lose profits.
But, apparently not.

Children’s Tylenol/Zyrtec/Motrin/Benadryl recall (readable list!) by McNeil Consumer Healthcare; 40 types of Tylenol products
May 01, 2010 11:58 AM EDT (Updated: May 01, 2010 08:49 PM EDT) views: 245
Yesterday, April 30, 2010, McNeil Consumer
Healthcare issued a voluntary recall of certain children’s and infants liquid products because some of these products may not meet required quality standards. They recommend caregivers do not give these products to their children.
From the Tylenol website, it says, “Some of the products included in the recall may contain a higher concentration of active ingredient than is specified;
others may contain inactive ingredients that may not meet internal testing requirements; and others may contain tiny particles.”
They assure us that the chance of serious medical events is remote. I, as a parent, am glad they’ve issued the voluntary recall, but I question how this happened in the first place. “a higher concentration of active ingredient”? That sounds dangerous to me.
The website said that the products were made in the US and distributed to “the United States, Canada, Dominican Republic, Dubai (UAE), Fiji, Guam, Guatemala, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Panama, Trinidad & Tobago, and Kuwait”.
This quote from the website at least makes me feel a little better:
“The company is conducting a comprehensive quality assessment across its manufacturing operations and has identified corrective actions that will be implemented before new manufacturing is initiated at the plant where the recalled products were made.”
But what happened to regular inspections? How did this happen? This does not make me feel very good about the safeguards in their manufacturing plants.

Limtiaco ready for new responsibilities

by Michele Catahay
Guam – Attorney General Alicia Limtiaco says she’s humbled by the nomination by President Barack Obama to sit as the U.S. Attorney for Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.
The Senate confirmed her nomination late last week, and she says it’s a position with great responsibility and one that should be taken very seriously.
Attributing her success to her family, Limtiaco, who also made history as Guam’s first elected female AG, noted,
“I’m very touched by the support of my family, my husband, my daughter, my parents and their friends and others who have been very encouraging, so it was very touching.
And again, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to Congresswoman [Madeleine] Bordallo who has also been very supportive in terms of this process and for her support in my nomination.”
Limtiaco says she hasn’t been briefed about when she’s expected to begin her term or proposed timelines as it relates to her new position.

To that great mom and daughter team that work so well together, I say thanks for setting an example for how good a mother and daughter relationship can be.
My daughter is calling me more because she says she feels she misses the closeness you two seem to have. I am so happy to have an opportunity to show my daughter that i want what she wants.
Here is an update to your news articles on Tylenol.
———————————
A health-care company has issued a recall of more than 40 over-the-counter children’s medications, which are available on Guam, according to The Associated Press.
The infants’ and children’s liquid medications, which are manufactured in the United States and exported, are being recalled in the U.S. mainland and 11 other countries — including the territory of Guam — because they don’t meet quality standards, the AP reported.
McNeil Consumer Healthcare issued the recall for children’s versions of Tylenol, Tylenol Plus, Motrin, Zyrtec and Benadryl after consulting with the Food and Drug Administration.
The company issued the voluntary recall Friday as a “precautionary measure” according to its website.
“This recall is not being undertaken on the basis of adverse medical events,” the McNeil Consumer Healthcare website states. “However, as a precautionary measure, parents and caregivers should not administer these products to their children.
“While the potential for serious medical events is remote, the company advises consumers who have purchased these recalled products to discontinue use,” the website states.
According to the company, these products could have higher concentrations of their active ingredients than what is listed on their labels. Others have yet to meet internal testing requirements, according to the company.
Consumers can call 1-888-222-6036 or on visit http://www.mcneilproductrecall.com for more information about the recall.

This is not a come-on, it’s a fact. If you weren’t married, I’d consider moving to San Francisco to give you a shot.

Actually, some think that you have to be a man because no woman they know can come on like you do.

This my opinion too:
——————–
We knew that Arizona’s new radical immigration law would stir up hate speech and racist voices nationwide.1 But we didn’t know it would hit so close to home.
Just before our friends at Washington CAN arrived to plan an immigrant rights march, racist vandals slashed their tires, spray-painted “heil Hitler” symbols and hurled a steel ball through the window.2
We’re tired of this violence. We’re tired of members of Congress having to close down their offices due to death threats and smashed windows. We’re tired of the hate speech and threats.
So we’re sending a giant banner made up of the names of all TrueMajority members who stand together against this racist violence.
WashCAN staff and volunteers will carry the banner this Saturday as a sign of solidarity against hate.
—————————-
This shows that some whites(not all, I’m white) will use any excuse to practice racism.

Doug
Are you insane? Or are you a traitor to your race because you are married to mud person? Or are you part something else?
The white race is in danger of being lost to interracial marriage. A pure white person is destined by God to rule the human race and the subhumans(non whites).
Have you checked Michelle’s heritage? Do you know your own?
Are you prepared to defend your race? I am.
The niggers, slopes, wets, and mud people are the greatest danger to the leadership of the greatest nation the world has ever seen.
We, the white race need to do just what the state of Arizona has done and soon my state Texas will do.
Target these subhumans and regulate them. We have the votes state wise in all 50 states. We need to use that power while we still have it to get the job done now.
If Michelle is a mud person, you need to make it your purpose to counterbalance this shit she pollutes the blogosphere with.
If you are the mud person, admit it so that real white people know that you speak from your subhuman brain. Otherwise we think that you have been brainwashed by subhuman chatter.
Zen Lill
I hear your complaints, but I know that you would never allow a nigger or any other subhuman touch you sexually.
You are the mother of the pure race. Your father has subliminally instilled in you the true values of your race. We salute you.

I wish to apologize, if I have maligned you by calling a true white woman a mud. If Doug is the mud, I can understand why you have not allowed him to breed you.
It is the responsibility of every white woman to breed as much as possible so that the white race can multiply. White men have to take measures to insure that white women do not shirk that responsibility by aborting good white children.
Abortion should be illegal because it is a God given duty that white women breed. God did not make you a white man’s equal, He made you the vehicle by which white men would populate this earth and rule in His name.
You blaspheme when you claim to the equal to the man made in God’s image. You as the Bible says are but the rib of man.
Be grateful that your have been given the privilege to breed with us. Be grateful that you have been chosen to bring forth the children of Jesus Christ.
All who violate the will of God will suffer eternal damnation. Get your soul right with God. If you are not a soulless subhuman, you can repent.

Q: How can we tell if a charity we want to make donations to is legitimate?
A: To determine if a charity you want to make donations to is legitimate, check the IRS searchable database at http://www.irs.gov/charities/contributors/index.html,
where you can find out if a charity is eligible to receive tax-deductible donations (click on “Search for Charities”).
For greater detail, check with Guidestar USA, Inc. (www.guidestar.org). This charity, founded in 1994, will show you (for free) a nonprofit organization’s actual tax filing (IRS Form 990).
A third helpful source is Charity Navigator (www.charitynavigator.org). Founded in 2001, it is the largest evaluator of charities, covering 5,300, but does not evaluate every charity registered with the IRS.
Charity Navigator evaluates charities based on how much of their income goes to the actual charitable works, to administrative expenses and to fundraising, assigning them zero to four stars, four stars being tops.
I selected one of the four-star charities, Action Against Hunger-USA, and learned that 89.2% of its income goes to programs, 9.6% to administrative expenses and 1.1% for fundraising.
The name and salary of the top executive is also given, as well as the charity’s mission statement and contact information.
Note: Not every dollar you give to a charity is tax deductible. Visit
http://www.irs.gov/publications/p526/ar02.html#d0e589 for more information.
