There Will Be Blame

Not enough can be said about the oil spill. I am sickened every day knowing that hundreds of gallons are still gushing. This is an e-mail that I received yesterday:

Michelle,

Jon Stewart recently did a brilliant job of showing how BP has responded incompetently to the mess they caused — the biggest environmental disaster in American history.

Now BP doesn’t want to pay for their mess?

WATCH THE VIDEO OF STEWART. Then, tell Representative Barbara Lee and others in Congress to require that BP pay 100% of the disaster costs.

Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) — chairman of the House Progressive Caucus — just announced a bill that would require that BP pay 100% for the cost of their mess.

It goes farther than other bills which also raise the liability on BP but don’t require BP to pay 100%. Rep. Lee hasn’t announced her position yet.

Let’s show Congress that the public wants the real deal. We’ll deliver your petition signatures to Congress — and inform the media about our momentum.

Go Jon! Your political humor is hilarious – I just wish it all wasn’t true.

Readers: Now that you’ve watched the video, let’s make sure that BP does foot the entire bill. Sign the petition please. Thank you.

Doug: Oh, you have…but when I’m wearing them, you’re always checking out that which is much more interesting than the boots….my legs...and whatever else is attached to them :)

Zen Lill: You know me, I am petite, therefore the higher the heel the better -I have at least 4 pair and they are as pointy in the toe, as they are spiky in the heel.  No hiding from Doug – See above answer :)

Howard: So has mine. And I think it is a good thing. I too have many days where I want to scream, not only about what is happening to our country, but the world. I don’t know what it is like for my readers on their end; I guess I never will, but I appreciate you reading and your determination to post a comment. I hope to hear from you again.

Brenda: Of course she is. That is all BP is liable for. Another reason to make sure EVERYBODY signs the petition, and makes a phone call.

Peter: I love your compassion and passion to stand up for your people.

Mike: And they’ll take what ever actions they need to also.

Hey Ruth: How are you? It looks like your entire article didn’t get posted. Please try again if you have some time. Thanks.

Leah: Now now…you know that is not true. There is no ‘allowing’…no one is ‘prevented’ on my end at least.

Peace out…

Lastly, greed over a great story is surfacing from my ‘loyal’(?) readers. With all this back and forth about who owns what, that appears on my blog, let me reiterate that all material posted on my blog becomes the sole property of my blog. I am laughing out loud over here, you know that, Misch…hahaha…of course he wouldn’t notice that bc your legs lead so nicely into that tush, can you blame him?

At the gym today, I watched Monfils in the French open, love him, he actually talks to himself and shows some emotion, I know the others don’t bc of focus, etc…but he’s so fun to watch and his biceps are nice as well…but on the other tv was Obama, and one of his lines was about BP assessing whether this could occur every 1,000x’s or every 5,000x’s or every 1Mil-x’s…hmmm, who gives a rat’s ass, they should’ve installed the $500,000 mechanism even if could only occur once every 50 years or 2Millionth x. I wondered if Obama was under (repug or otherwise) stress to say bs like that bc he knows the truth is, it should’ve been installed, period.

Women of the middle east, I am now reading ‘The Infidel’ by Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a stunning woman with a horrifying story, and I assure you this woman is telling it like it is and I’m sure her life is threatened just for telling her truth. Just wanted to let you know that my sisters of this world are never forgotten. It was my Mother’s Day gift, my 11 yr old picked it out, she’s a smart little sweetheart.

    Caio for now, Zen Lill

If this message gets through, would you consider sending back to Iran?

  3. Dolores Says:

Michelle I agree with your article, but what can the private citizen do?

I was furious when I read this in the HufPost.
    ————————–
Dean Baker: People don’t need economists to tell them that times are bad. However, what the public may not recognize is that the same people who caused this disaster are still calling the shots. Specifically, there has been little change in personnel and no acknowledgment of error at the central banks whose incompetence was responsible for the crisis. At the top of the list of villains in this story is the IMF
    —————————————
Just how does the ordinary citizen get rid of these guys?

    Dolores

  4. Josh Says:

Good for you Michelle, I just checked your site again and I see that comments are now getting in except for Zen Lill who seems to have the magic touch.

I didn’t need to watch the video to want the federal government to make BP pay what it owes to those they have caused immense suffering. But I did anyway.

Funny how humor can be so illuminating. I am writing all my federal reps and demanding that they remove that $75 million liability limit for BP. Everyone should do the same.

However, it it had to happen, then happening in the “drill baby drill” states is apropos.

    Josh

  5. Anonymous Says:

Michelle, I’ve seem those boots of yours and they are made for more than just walking. A song comes to mind.

  6. Gloria Says:

Zen Lill you must be doing something right, my two daughters, ages 11 and 13 don’t even remember my birthdate.

If their father doesn’t remind them, they are oblivious to the date. All they do is come home from school and plop down in front of that TV. They sit and watch until I come home and turn it off and make the do their homework assignment.

When their father arrives(Usually 2 hrs. later) they rush up to him complaining that they have finished their homework and I still won’t let them watch TV.

He rushes over to me and says, “Honey they’ve finished their homework, how about allowing them an hour or two.

    AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

What are you doing I’m not, Zen Lill?

    Gloria

  7. Ken Says:

I live in the part of the state of LA that people use the back waters for their livelihood. We are out of work and running out of money to pay our bills

BP is sending our checks for $700 to $7,000 to people here. That is no money to a person who made that in a few weeks off the waters they have polluted.

Where are all those “drill baby drill” republicans when we need them? I will admit that I bought their song and dance. I was all for drilling for oil off the coast of LA. But that was because I was assured that Big Oil had it shit together.

Now I know better, I hope it isn’t to late for that Alfafa in the white house to do something. Frankly this is not the time to have a nigger in the White House.

    Ken

  8. Charikar Says:

    Zen Lill

Thanks for remembering the suffering Islam has forced upon us. I don’t think this will make it in. But even if I am just talking to myself, I need to say to some one the women who are forced to accept Islam as their religion of choice are doomed to a life of sexual servitude and degradation.

    Charikar

  9. Dean Says:

Will someone please tell the men of this blog where Howie is. And don’t give me this the aliens took him bullshit.

    Dean

  10. Craig Says:

Ditto on the where abouts of the “Drill Baby Drill” crowd. I would extend that invitation to the many citizens of those Gulf states that were backing the politicians pushing DBD.

Have you heard any of the media ask anyone about their stance on DBD? No, but you have heard people ask Obama about his authorizing offshore drilling.

It is almost a conspiracy of silence. Why aren’t the proponents of DBD being asked to explain their position?

The media is run by idiot, or ideologues.

  11. Doug The Main Dude Says:

    Ken,
With the last few lines of your comment I can begin to understand how you could buy in to the song and dance.

When in fact, NOW is the time to have “President Obama”(to you) in office, rather than the typical, crusty, stale, non thinking/feeling, greedy, political white fucks that have fucked everything up. But then that is business as usual for their lazy asses. I mean, hey, they are right there with a check for $700 bucks to you for ruining your life…in the mean time, they’ll continue to collect campaign money from BP and Wall Street.
