The Stolen Lives Of Little Women

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 11th February 2009

Hello Taloquan:  Good to hear from you, and I’m delighted that you were finally able to post a comment.  And thank you for turning your sister onto my blog. I read the article that you posted and I found it very interesting and inspiring. Thank you for sharing. What surprised me the most was the following statement:

“The Muslim world population is 1.4 billion people. By the middle of the century, one out of four people will be Muslim. … [There are] 57 Muslim countries today. Think of the number,” Ahmed said. “America — as a superpower, as a world leader — needs to be able to interact in a positive way with one-fourth of the world’s population.”

I hope that for the rest of your time here you will also love it,  and that America lives up to your expectations as a world leader.  There are fair people but as you know we have a long way to go as a society.  I love your optimism and I am hopeful too.

Domi! It is such a delight to see a comment from you. (Readers: Domi and I have know each other….well I was going to list the years but instead I will just say, since our early high school years, and she is a dear friend. And the most fun – she always has me laughing :) It is such a rarity that I get a comment from an old pal. I know that you read and I appreciate you chiming in. I hope that you’ll hang around for awhile and comment again.

Hey Zen Lill:  Yes, wouldn’t it be great if all of those ‘white is right’ers ( love that term) could just be popped into another body, OTW of course, and see how it is to live with racism and such? How enlightening that would be. Of course they might loathe themselves so much that they would commit suicide. Hmm….we might be onto something…..Oh I am bad, so bad. Spank me.

Cyndi: I was hoping that we would get a response from Taloquan in regards to your question. I read that article just yesterday too and it was so disturbing.  I had a  challenging day myself yesterday but when I read this, I realized once again, that my challenges are nothing compared to the lives of so many women, muslim and other, and what they endure on a daily basis.

And it all starts at a very young age.

Zaranj: Thank you for writing in. I know how difficult it is for women like you to write in knowing the repercussions should you be discovered. I just saw that video of the young girl, 8 years old, who was forced to marry a 47 year old man. I am posting it below so that my readers can view it too.

Readers: As shocking as it may seem, it is legal for girls to marry as young as age 10.  These are just young girls forced to grow up way too quickly and take on a life that they don’t desire, to put it mildly. What does it say about a man, who wants to marry a child? What does it say about a father who is willing to give up his young daughter knowing what her future holds?  I agree with Zaranj. They are sick pedophiles who use religion to satisfy their disgusting sexual needs.

These women really have no voice and the young girls certainly don’t. At a very young age, an age where children are so impressionable, the young girls learn that they have no say in their own lives; they have no choices. The young boys learn that they can do anything they please. They see how their fathers treat their sisters and mothers etc. and they develop the same behavior patterns. The young girls are basically sex slaves to the men and then they grow up and have such horrific experiences such as the story that Cyndi posted. Am I wrong?

Zaranj: I think about the women in this world daily. I know that thinking doesn’t do much for you. I try to enlighten my readers as I become enlightened myself. I am torn about how to handle your request and the requests of so many others like you.

Doug: You surprise me….nothing to add?! :)

Barbara:  You’re welcome. As always I wish that I was writing on subjects that were more pleasurable, but unfortunately that is the way that it is on this planet.  I can stick my head in the sand and pop up only to see the good but what good would that do? I did that for many years but the shit will still float to the surface whether I choose to see it or not. I choose to so that I can be of service in any way that I can.

In regards to your white girlfriends, why not bring it up yourself? Maybe they want to talk about it but they just don’t don’t know what to say. Maybe when the topic is about women they can feel a camaraderie, but when the subject is about something they can’t relate to, maybe they feel in adequate and at a loss for words. Maybe they have no idea how much it hurts you. How about taking a risk? it sounds like you have a great support of women in your office. I’m sure that if they knew your feelings they would respond to your needs. I hope that I am right.

Carl:  I hear ya and I hope for that too.

Readers: I wanted to discuss the Stimulus topic, but this morning was not the time.  I am sure it will be discussed again on my blog, but feel free to chat amongst yourselves on this or the above.  I need to go.

Peace out and always….

Gratefully your blog host,

michelle

A Paranormal ‘Incident’?

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 13th January 2009

I wonder if our friends in the UK have been trying to post here? I just got a heads up about the ‘Octopus UFO’ that flew in the sky and collided into a wind turbine a week ago, ripping off one of its 65-foot blades!

Hmm….is Azza back in town or just our Madaline having a little too much fun? Or something else? Oh…please chime in and make yourself known. We would love to know more of the details!

It has been reported by people living in a nearby town of Lincolnshire (Oh love that name; it is just so Brit!), that strange orangey-yellow lights were headed in the direction of the said wind farm earlier in the evening.  And then surprise!  Those same peeps were awakened at 4 am by the sounds of crashing and smashing…the wind turbine was getting chewed up in a bad way.

“It looked like a giant explosion in the air,” said one local. Another witness said he saw a “massive ball of light with tentacles going right down to the ground. … It was huge. With the tentacles it looked just like an octopus.” Hundreds have reported seeing the same phenomenon.

An Octopus eh? Now, too bad we don’t have a photo. Out of all of those people woken up by this monstrosity, no one bothered to grab a camera to document this exciting event? Bummer.

So it appears that one blade was completely torn off the giant windmill, and has yet to be found. While the remaining blade was totally mangled. Ha!…It looks just like one of my forks that fell into the garbage disposal one time.

UFO experts “are very excited” by the prospect that the crash could have been caused by a paranormal incident.

Incident? Not sure I would call that an ‘incident’. Unless the UFO thought it was getting into a skirmish with another type of ship. Or it was alien who thought he could wrestle the being with the whirling blade-like appendages. (Can you see the visual?) No I wouldn’t call it an ‘incident; more like a paranormal ‘accident’. I think it’s funny.

Readers:  What about you? Comments? blog me. (Especially if you are from the UK – would love to hear about your experience.)

~~~~~~~~~~
Hi Zen Lill:  No biggie – happy that you were having fun with Miss Lily. I love riding go-carts, and yes I am laughing the entire time too – Doug is the driver and all I do is scream and laugh – it is so much fun! Maybe we will go soon Doug?
Thank you for saying all that you said. I was a bit surprised to hear such words from you. Delighted of course that I could be that for you. Thank you for saying so. It is my lifetime goal to inspire others…not necessarily to be like me – how boring that would be…However if you recognize certain things in me, know that you hold these too :) lol..you are too busy being you to be me! Be you – you are perfect as you are.
Hello D’r'fa:  I am sorry but thank you for trying…seems you did get in…finally. May peace and safety be yours soon.
Hello Nadia: If ZL wants to repost it here for you, that is fine with me.
Hi Croe:  I have heard the same and was just ‘disgussing’ that same topic with Doug last night. That’s my new word…a morphing of ‘disgusting’ and ‘discussing’ – saved for topics of discussion that disgust me. And Bush fits the bill. Oh, I hope he takes a nice long vacation in a foreign country that doesn’t treat their criminals so kindly.
Hi Phillip:  Good to hear from you. Interesting comment.  I get what you mean. And, I agree with you. Although he did say that he aspired to be a dictator, I don’t think that he has the brains to ‘contemplate’ being a dictator either. You’re thinking logically – which is good. But you’re forgetting that Bush isn’t very logical.
My point is…does it matter whether he has the brains to contemplate it or not? He doesn’t have the brains to be a president either but he was voted in twice! As long as he surrounds himself with the right puppeteers, the strings will be pulled and shit will get done. – that has been proven. So, if the American people were stupid enough to vote him in twice, I wouldn’t put it past them to help him in his aspirations should he ever get the opportunity. The fact that he blatantly said that and nothing was written about it in the media – no one said a word….Except for Doug sitting next to me in shock, and  now Carmen’s comment from yesterday), the American people have expressed their ‘boneheadedness’ again. And yes, I’m making up my own word again…but it works doesn’t it? :)
hello Lashkar Gar: I hear you loud and clear. And I too am wishing for our oil independence, not only for us but also for the many women whose lives need to desperately change. You have my support too and I am grateful for yours.
Hi Gereshk:  Good to hear from you. I know how true it is as I have read and heard the stories from others just like your brother. It is so sad and disturbing to know that this atrocity breathes on a daily basis. I hope that my column and others like it can help but I know more must be done besides making people aware. Awareness is only the beginning.
How narrow-minded that the Islamic council thinks that I am anti Islamic. Far from it. Just another excuse to control their women. What I am is anti slavery and anti rape..and really any type of abuse to their women and children. I am for women’s rights and that means I am for them loosing control of their said property.  Oh I know that just doesn’t sit well with the Islamic men.  Control is a biggie.
To the rest of my readers who posted a comment yesterday: I apologize that I cannot address you today – work calls, but I promise tomorrow I will speak to you.
peace out….
Gratefully your blog host,
michelle
Hoop on…
Posted by Michelle Moquin on 11th January 2009
Umm…I feel so good this morning. I finally got a long nights sleep – 8 hours. Not my usual 9-10 but I can live with it. I relaxed most of yesterday…well not really. I needed to do some things in the house but what I got done definitely relaxed me.
I have to tell you that when I wake up, the first thing I do after I read my goals is get onto my computer and see what’s up.  So you are disappointed when you can’t get on?  Let me tell ya, I feel the same way when I wake up and there are no comments from you. Writing is one thing. I enjoy it…but conversing with all of you is what I love. And when I see the words ‘No Comments’, I am bummed. Especially when I write an article like yesterday’s that is so important and I know you are all out there trying to get it…so just let me say it again, I am bummed too. But hey that’s life. Keep trying and so will I.
I’m up early and off to work today…something I am actually excited about, however…it is Sunday. And way back…I lost track of when…I hooped on Sundays. No, not basketball – love watching it but not my game to play. My kind of hooping is done with a hoop around my waist and it has been over a year since I have gyrated with one on. I miss it.
Ok I lied. The second thing I did when I woke up after I read my goals was check my email…then I got on here. So, my email was from a group that I used to hoop with and they are meeting at at sunny spot in SF – my hoop group is calling me and I won’t be able to go. So this morning I am going to dream about hooping and make it a goal to start back up as soon as I get into the swing of this job thing, and time is my friend again.
And just to inspire all you fellow hoopers out there to get out and hoop or move in ways that your bod ain’t used to – believe me your body will love you…I am posting a photo of moi on one of my most fun hooping days. The cool thing about a hoop is that you can bring it with you anywhere – people just gravitate when they see hoopers – childhood memories are a powerful draw to give it a go again.  Why not you?
I just love this photo – so much hoop action!
Hoop on….
Madaline: How could I forget? – thank you.
What do cell phones and the women of Congo have in common?
Posted by Michelle Moquin on 10th January 2009
I wrote about the women in Congo back in August.  And ladies I have not forgotten about you at all. The women in this world are always on my mind and when I am having a tough day, I always remember that my life is a dream compared to most. Unfortunately, right now there is only little that I can do. But it is my goal…the bigger picture in my life to do more and I am constantly working on how to improve that.  One of the ways I can help right now, is to continually write about the plight of women and bring it to light. It is not a pretty picture but it has to be painted.
This morning I woke up and found an article that caught my eye – thank you Doug for putting it aside for me.
I discovered that Congo has three resources that our electronics devices depend on – Congo has a good percentage of the world’s supply of Tantalite, Tungsten (you may recognize this name if you own a Palm Pilot), and Tin. Without these three, our daily electronic devices would not work.
Congo is also a country that has been torn apart by the deadliest war since World War II, where 5.4 million have perished, and an estimated 1,500 people die per day in war-related causes.  So what is this war fueled by? ….Our inexhaustible thirst for cell phones, laptops, video games, digital recorders and any other product that owes it’s existence to Congo’s contribution to the world’s mineral supply.
Why are so many people dying? Congo is a country rampant with feuding militias and a failed government.  It is a country that has been raided, looted, and raped for the past century and a half because of its vast natural resource wealth.   Kings, corporations, and countries have taken advantage of these resources, stealing whatever they can and leaving behind devastation.
The resources are not the only thing that has, to be put mildly, been taken advantage of. The Congo has the highest rate of sexual violence globally. It is the world’s most dangerous place to be a woman or girl. These women of Congo are being used in the worst way possible.  The militia use rape as a weapon of war and they are perfecting this tool of war in a manner never seen before. The effectiveness of deploying sexual violence as a tactic of war is unquestioned. Competing forces rape in order to permanently drive communities out of contested areas. Women are so traumatized by gang rapes and other depredations that they are too scared to go home…too afraid to re-live their experiences. And because these tactics work, and the perpetrators pay no price for their horrific crimes, there is no incentive to stop. It continues daily and the women in Congo live through it daily.
As I write this I can’t seem to contain the anger that I feel. I am disgusted and all I envision is harm and brutality enforced in ways that I can only imagine. I have always been one who believes in and eye for an eye….my feelings on this have not changed. I sit here safe in my own home…safe from harm, but I know…in my gut, that if I was in the mix of it…if I was witnessing the atrocities, I know that I would inflict harm in the same way that these men are inflicting harm on their women.
Where are the men fighting to protect these women? – Where are the heroes willing to die for those that give us life? As I sit, I feel the tears well up in my eyes and guilt run through my heavy heart, knowing my fingers are tapping on a device that contributes to the plight of so many women.
So what can we do?  One thing we can do is let our elected officials know that we are aware of the violence and we want it to end. Obama’s inauguration is wildly anticipated by Africans including those in Congo.  They believe Obama will have the chance to make the end of the Congo’s war one of his Policy objectives.  But it can’t stop there…we must also let the electronic companies know that it matters to us where they get their raw materials that run their devices.
Until there is awareness and action taken, to be put bluntly, in my opinion…every electronic device you support leads to the plight of the Congo women. We as world citizens have to be more responsible about the actions that we take and the choices that we make in the products we buy, and the companies we support.
We cannot turn a blind eye, plug our ipods in and blast our music, knowing that we are drowning out the cries of women and girls in the Congo. We need to demand that these products are conflict free, and ask more questions about where their components are from. We need to care. If we do, the companies will have no choice but to change their procurement practices.  We fought against ‘Blood diamonds’. We saw the horrors that lead to the world to get serious about stopping them. We can get serious and fight against ‘conflict minerals’ too and have the same impact. The Congo women are counting on us. We cannot be irresponsible, unaccountable, world citizens when our sisters are fighting for their lives.
Want to learn more? Go to Raise Hope For Congo. What to do more? If you live in the Bay Area, attend the screening of “The Greatest Silence: Rape in the Congo” at 4:15 pm today, at the Smith Rafael Film Center on 4th Street in San Rafael.  Get involved.
Hi Anonz:  My pleasure – happy that I could assist. Be well and be safe.
Hi Brenda: Thanks and keep trying – you did get in this time. :)
Good Morning. This is for all my women readers out there.  I got this from one of my sources this morning and I thought it was well worth posting. Some of these tips I have heard before but many are new and in my mind very valuable for women to not only read but become aware of…make second nature, should they find themselves in an undesirable situation.
NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH NEWS
Sergeant Podesta January 2009.
Some of you have already received this information, but it never hurts to repeat it even if we save one person from becoming a victim. This was forwarded to me by Senior Lead Officer Maria Gray, and it has a lot of good tips.
The below information was forwarded to me from a friend who wanted to disseminate this survival information to as many women and children as possible. I told her I would assist her in this goal. Please file these tips away in your mind so that in the event you are subjected to an attack, you will have a prepared and successful response (rapists hope that you will freeze up in fear). Forward these tips to all the women in your life.
A group of rapists and date rapists in prison were interviewed on what they look for in a potential victim and here are some interesting facts:
1) The first thing men look for in a potential victim is hairstyle. They are most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail, bun, braid or other hairstyle that can easily be grabbed . They are also likely to go after a woman with long hair . Women with short hair are not common targets.
2) The second thing men look for is clothing.. They will look for women who’s clothing is easy to remove quickly. Many of them carry scissors around specifically to cut clothing.
3) They also look for women on their cell phone, searching through their purse, or doing other activities while walking because they are off-guard and can be easily overpowered.
4) Men are most likely to attack & rape in the early morning, between 5: 00a.m. and 8:30a.m.
5) The number one place women are abducted from/attacked is grocery store parking lots. The number two: office parking lots/garages.. Number three: public restrooms.
6) The thing about these men is that they are looking to grab a woman and quickly move her to another location where they don’t have to worry about getting caught.
7) Only 2% said they carried weapons because rape carries a 3-5 year sentence but rape with a weapon is 15-20 years.
8) If you put up any kind of a fight at all, they get discouraged because it only takes a minute or two for them to realize that going after you isn’t worth it because it will be time-consuming.
9) These men said they would not pick on women who have umbrellas, or other similar objects that can be used from a distance, in their hands
Keys are NOT a deterrent because you have to get really close to the attacker to use them as a weapon. So, the idea is to convince these guys you’re not worth it.
10) Several defense mechanisms he taught us are: If someone is following behind you on a street or in a garage or with you in an elevator or stairwell, look them in the face and ask them a question, like what time is it?, or make general small talk: ‘I can’t believe it is so cold out here,’ ‘We’re in for a bad winter.’ Now you’ve seen their face and could identify them in a line-up; you lose appeal as a target.
11) If someone is coming toward you, hold out your hands in front of you and yell STOP! or STAY BACK! Most of the rapists this man talked to said they’d leave a woman alone if she yelled or showed that she would not be afraid to fight back. Again, they are looking for an EASY target.
12) If you carry pepper spray (this instructor was a huge advocate of it and carries it with him wherever he goes), yell I HAVE PEPPER SPRAY and holding it out will be a deterrent.
13) If someone grabs you, you can’t beat them with strength but you can by outsmarting them. If you are grabbed around the waist from behind, pinch the attacker either under the Arm (between the elbow and armpit) OR in the upper inner thigh VERY VERY HARD. One woman in a class this guy taught told him she used the underarm pinch on a guy who was trying to date rape her and was so upset she broke through the skin and tore out muscle strands – the guy needed stitches. Try pinching yourself in those places as hard as you can stand it – it hurts.
14) After the initial hit, always GO for the GROIN. I know from a particularly unfortunate experience that if you slap a guy’s parts it is extremely painful. You might think that you’ll anger the guy and make him want to hurt you more, but the thing these rapists told our instructor is that they want a woman who will not cause a lot of trouble. Start causing trouble and he’s out of there.
15) When the guy puts his hands up to you, grab his first two fingers and bend them back as far as possible with as much pressure pushing down on them as possible. The instructor did it to me without using much pressure, and I ended up on my knees and both knuckles cracked audibly.
16) Of course the things we always hear still apply. Always be aware of your surroundings, take someone with you if you can and if you see any odd behavior, don’t dismiss it, go with your instincts!!!
You may feel a little silly at the time, but you’d feel much worse if the guy really was trouble.
1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do : The elbow is the strongest point on your body If you are close enough to use it, do!
2. Learned this from a tourist guide in New Orleans : If a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you….chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you, and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!
3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver won’t see you, but everybody else will. This has saved lives.
4 Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc, and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc.) DON’T DO THIS! The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go.. AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR, LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.
a. If someone is in the car with a gun to your head DO NOT DRIVE OFF, repeat: DO NOT DRIVE OFF! Instead gun the engine and speed into anything, wrecking the car. Your Air Bag will save you. If the person is in the back seat they will get the worst of it. As soon as the car crashes bail out and run. It is better than having them find your body in a remote location.
5 A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot or parking garage.
A.) Be aware: look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor, and in the back seat.
B.) If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.
C.) Look at the car parked on the driver’s side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out.
IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)
6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. (Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot. This is especially true at NIGHT!)
7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times. And even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN, preferably in a zigzag pattern!
8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP! It may get you raped or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well-educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked ‘for help’ into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.
9. Another Safety Point: Someone just told me that her friend heard a crying baby on her porch the night before last, and she called the police because it was late and she thought it was weird. The police told her’Whatever you do, DO NOT open the door.’
The lady then said that it sounded like the baby had crawled near a window, and she was worried that it would crawl to the street and get run over. The policeman said, ‘We already have a unit on the way, whatever you do, DO NOT open the door.’ He told her that they think a serial killer has a baby’s cry recorded and uses it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby. He said they have not verified it, but have had several calls by women saying that they hear baby’s cries outside their doors when they’re home alone at night.
Please pass this on and DO NOT open the door for a crying baby — This should be taken seriously because the Crying Baby theory was mentioned on America’s Most Wanted this past Saturday when they profiled the serial killer in Louisiana
I’d like you to forward this to all the women you know. It may save a life. A candle is not dimmed by lighting another candle. I was going to send this to the ladies only, but guys, if you love your mothers, wives, sisters, daughters, etc., you may want to pass it onto them, as well.
Madaline: Zen Lill is wishing for you to heal Anonz. I don’t think I am going against my word by asking you to help heal him. Put him back together as quickly as possible. Take care of the others injured except remove from their minds, (not Anonz’s) that they ever entered the danger zone in the first place. You have your orders 21MRB.
Anonz:  I gave you my word and in keeping my word, you are not being protected. However my thought is you would prefer to confront your goal and be in the best shape possible to carry out your goal. Therefore I saw no harm in honoring ZL’s request in making sure that you heal quickly so that you can do just that.
Peace & Love….you know what to do :)
Gratefully your blog host,
