Did You Find Your ‘Jewel’ Today?

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 5th December 2008

Ummm…I woke up this morning; it was early, totally dark. There is something about the early morning. It is not just the darkness that I love but the silence and the freshness, the newness…that the morning brings as dawn breaks into a new day.  Any issue the day before is a distant past and a new day is born, possibly bringing new challenges.  I guess that is why I love my sleep so much. When I wake up, it feels like a clean slate even if it isn’t. New days always give me hope.

A new day also brings a new person. I was tired last night but this morning I am re-energized; My body and mind are awake, alive, and aware.

I love this photo.  Why? Because it gives us a different perspective than maybe what we’re used to seeing. I’m all about looking at things from a different view and seeing something that maybe I would not have seen had I not changed my perspective. Sometimes the beauty of something just needs to be seen from a different angle. And sometimes when we’re baffled about something in life, all we need to do is look at it from a different perspective and the answer jumps right out at us. Just as the shadows of the Zebra do.

This is the perfect image for me to discover this morning. This is my little jewel that has revealed itself.

Readers: Did you find your ‘jewel’ today? Or does this image speak to you too? I would love to hear your view. Blog me.

Hey, it’s Friday – have a good one!

Doug & Zen Lill:  It’s been a little quiet on this blog, but I am so happy that both of you are still here. :)

‘….there are jewels in everything we do even if they are very small and we can’t see them immediately.’

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 1st December 2008

Well…I’ve been perusing the net looking for something to inspire a write and I have to say that I have come up totally empty. I have not been watching the news AT ALL, as I have been working like a dog. And let me tell you, ‘dog’ is the operative word here.

Remember when I said awhile ago how I was a woman who was blessed with not having to work? Or at least not having to work at something that didn’t inspire me?  I always jokingly said that I was a ‘stay at home mom with no kids.’ – that was me. Actually I am a woman looking to be inspired by a new career or even the old one…as long as it is exciting, and I am passionate about it.  I have been blessed to work in a field that I love for my entire young life, and I am not about to change that.

But today, like many others in this sucky economy,  I have had to go out and get a second job…immediately. Yes the economy is affecting this girl too.  I am a working girl now with two part time jobs and sadly, very little pay.  But hey, I am grateful that I landed something even if it is not my ideal situation. I have learned from the past that all of my experiences in my life have lead to the totality of the person that I am today. This one will too. And yes I believe that there are jewels in everything we do even if they are very small and we can’t see them immediately.

So this new job may lead to a new career or it may just be a ‘job’ for awhile. Time will tell and so will my attitude. So far I am enjoying it in spite of the modest pay (ugh!), and as I said…I am testing the waters…is this for me?  It is quite humbling.  I am seeing this position as a new part in the play of my life, and this scene may end quickly or drag on.

Therefore, a good positive attitude is the utmost of importance. I try not to get too wrapped up in it all, and just find the jewel. Sometimes it means faking it.  Hence the saying, ‘fake it till you make it.’

My life is pretty strange at times and things change pretty quickly…sometimes daily and sometimes even hourly.  Yesterday’s upset is not a concern today…and today’s happiness…well….like I have said before, ‘happiness’ is a state of mind’…

In the mean time I have hired head hunters in my design field to actively ‘hook me up’ with employers looking for a candidate such as myself.  The next scene is coming up – Wish me luck!

**********

Hi Kristin:  I don’t know how to answer your question. The insanity continues in many other forms today. And there are still barbaric acts of genocide happening all over the world. You can’t take away what has happened in the past but you can learn from them and you can be a voice…a participant in stopping the atrocities that are happening now.

Hi Ratnavali: As I mentioned, I am behind in the happenings of the world right now. I am in survival mode myself and doing the best that I can to keep in touch with the time that I have. Regardless, I have been advised to lay low at this present moment. Believe me, I wish that I could do more.  ’Hang in there’ seems to be the phrase I am using these days. :)

Peace out…

Giving Thanks

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 27th November 2008

In America, today is the day for expressing what we are thankful for in life…it is a day for giving thanks to all that you feel grateful for. I like Thanksgiving because it is a celebration of giving thanks, and if one can step into the true meaning, it can be a very moving experience.  It can remind us just how blessed we are and in today’s state, I think that we as Americans need to realize the abundance that we have, and a reminder is in order. And if the true meaning of giving thanks is honored today, it gives me hope that the daily practice of giving gratitude will become a habit.

I have mentioned that I used to send out ‘Weekly Gratitude’ to my friends and family. Unfortunately, as much as the ‘receivers’ and I enjoyed it, I had to give it up. But it does not mean that I don’t tell or show my friends and family how grateful I am that they are in my life.

It was also a habit of mine to start my morning writing down 5 things that I am grateful for. It always uplifted me to do this especially when I felt that I didn’t ‘have’ enough in my life or I wanted something more to happen. To me just feeling grateful for things was not enough…to see the gratitude on paper is powerful. If you have ever written down goals before, you know what I mean by the power of the written word.

I don’t write in my ‘gratitude journal’ every day like I used to, but today is a reminder that I want to be that diligent with it again. I saw results in the writing of my daily gratitude, and I saw an attitude change in myself, that not only affected myself, but those around me.  We all know how energy spreads and can be contagious and uplifting to others and ourselves. Why not express your gratitude and have it spread like wild fire?

And the wonderful news is that you don’t have to be an American celebrating Thanksgiving…  Giving thanks is worldwide :).

Today I am thankful for….

…the love that I feel from my husband, my family and my friends.( Lucy too :)

…how resourceful and adaptable I can be with change. And still laugh in the midst of it all!

…the freedom to choose how I want to live my life.

…all of my experiences in life that have added to the totality of who I am.

…my blog.  A venue to speak my mind and express myself to all of you out there, and a place for you, my readers, to do the same. The growth that I have experienced and the people that I have met have had a profound effect on me.

I am so grateful.

Hey ZL:  Oh…pig out and enjoy yourself! :)

Gleia:  So do I; I love bananas.

Hi Sheila:  Thanks for your comment. I so appreciate your candidness. It’s hard to imagine a woman with your smarts in the shadow of your man. Don’t think that I haven’t been there before; I have. I was just lucky enough to see the light early.  I’m delighted that you have chosen to do the same.

Readers: How will you express your gratitude today and for the rest of your life?  Share – blog me.

‘Who Would You Choose?’ continues…

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 26th November 2008

Good morning readers:  It seems the topic the day before hit a cord for some of you. I didn’t think that people had a hard time getting in, (because really I have no idea unless you speak up). I just thought that few felt inspired to comment. But I can see that I was wrong.

To me, it was a rather personal article, but I am delighted that it was thought provoking enough for you to try and write in to broach the subject again. Zen Lill and I had a convo about it the day I wrote it and I remember saying that I didn’t think that many would choose themselves as the one with all of the power, and I was curious to see if I was correct in my assumption. We’re about half and half – Interesting.

I read my article again and since we are still on the topic of ‘who would you chose?’ l wanted to clarify something that may have been misleading.  When I say, If someone’s going to have all of the control…If anyone is going to have all of the power, my answer would always be in any circumstance, ‘It is going to be me’, it means also that I would have the power to choose for someone else to be in control of a specific situation. I did not state that because I feel that I am all knowing – it did not come from ego – far from that.

I was not comparing myself to leaders of this world nor was I saying that I wanted to be president of the US. As I mentioned it was a personal article and quite broad in the scheme of it.  All of your answers were interesting to me and I’m pleased that although the day before was a lockout, you persevered.

Hey, I’ve got news too: Thanks for the heads up on Heparin.  Readers: Not sure if you read the health info or other such comments that are off topic and somehow get in. But as I mentioned before, I don’t believe in coincidences so if there are any of you with health issues I would pay attention. There is some good advice that gets in here, and quite possibly with you in mind…just a thought.

Hi Linda: Your professor sounds like a pretty amazing and inspiring man. How lucky you and your fellow students are to have a teacher in your lives that gets you thinking and challenges you. I miss that connection that one gets in school between students and their teachers.

I had to laugh about his comment about me. No one has ever called me a bullshit artist before. I find that quite amusing.  - I would love to see a comment from Joseph. So Joseph, if you are reading, how about chiming in sometime?

And how interesting that you would say that he would make a great wise ‘alien’. Why do you say ‘alien’ instead of ‘man’ or ‘human’? Anyway, I’m happy he ‘switched’ many of you.  I was initially for Hillary too but Obama’s got it going.  Hey, congrats on being a straight A student! The column will continue… :)

Hi Nawzad:  I know you have written in before yes? If it was you, I remember the last time you said, Sometimes I dream that you let Madaline loose and she destroyed all the evil men in my country.’  I cannot say that the thought has not crossed my mind. The more I hear and learn about women of the world, the more such thoughts enter.  How to weed out the good is easier said than done but it is possible…it has been done on other planets.  But I can see from your most recent comment that you are upset enough to not care about the weeding process.  And considering the life that you lead daily, (which no matter how hard I try I would never be able to comprehend) and now this recent action…I can understand your comment.

I had read about the acid throwing and it is horrible. I am really sorry that your sister was one of the victims.  I wish her well….and I wish that I could help, but right now all eyes are open. I can tell you this: You and the women of this world are continually on my mind. My situation is nothing compared to what you endure everyday and yet, at this moment there is not much that I can do to assist but write and enlighten when and if I can.

Hey George: Thanks for sharing your story. All I can say is I am happy that you said ‘enough is enough’ and you stuck to your gut and held onto your rights as a voter.

Rezar:  You should be ashamed of the way YOU conduct yourself.

Hey Jerold: AHahaha! Love the comment. Not sure we’re on the same wave but hey you have the right to say you want to control the world. Cheers!

Shawn: I think the readers have said it all…but I am curious of ‘respect’ and ‘relations’ is who you think it is.

Hi ZL: ooohh I know how much you like those artifacts :(- Times will change and I’m sure you will have the money to buy more later if you choose :)

Write on! Read on…

Racism Is Out Of Remission And Growing Stronger

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 17th November 2008

As much as I’d like to believe that racism is diminishing in the world, I know that it is just not true.   It is a disease that is rampant and I’m afraid there is not cure except for extermination. It is a disease that may go into remission until something draws it out. Obama winning the election was the catalyst, as racism is showing up stronger. Will it come to extermination at some point, or will the racists wake up and just get over the color of one’s skin?  Unfortunately, I have little faith that it will be the latter.

Doug gave me an article the other day after Anonz made comments about the RNC’s plans to insure that the media focuses on OTW crimes against whites during Obama’s  tenure, and to spend as much money as they can to pit the OTW’s against each other…all in the name of keeping the whites in power and wealth. As I said, racism is a disease and Obama being elected into office was the catalyst for this disease to come out of its remission. It is threatened and it will do anything it needs to do to insure its growth and survival, which means the destruction of anything OTW.

This article focused on events that have been happening around the US since November 5th when Obama was voted our president elect. Here are only a few of the hundreds that have been reported:

Cross burnings. Schoolchildren chanting “Assassinate Obama.” Black figures hung from nooses. Racial epithets scrawled on homes and cars.

_Black figures were hanged by nooses from trees on Mount Desert Island, Maine, the Bangor Daily News reported. The president of Baylor University in Waco, Texas said a rope found hanging from a campus tree was apparently an abandoned swing and not a noose.

_A black teenager in New York City said he was attacked with a bat on election night by four white men who shouted ‘Obama.’

_In the Pittsburgh suburb of Forest Hills, a black man said he found a note with a racial slur on his car windshield, saying “now that you voted for Obama, just watch out for your house.”

_Four North Carolina State University students admitted writing anti-Obama comments in a tunnel designated for free speech expression, including one that said: “Let’s shoot that (N-word) in the head.” Obama has received more threats than any other president-elect, authorities say.

_At Standish, Maine, a sign inside the Oak Hill General Store read: “Osama Obama Shotgun Pool.” Customers could sign up to bet $1 on a date when Obama would be killed. “Stabbing, shooting, roadside bombs, they all count,” the sign said. At the bottom of the marker board was written “Let’s hope someone wins.”

_Racist graffiti was found in places including New York’s Long Island, where two dozen cars were spray-painted; Kilgore, Texas, where the local high school and skate park were defaced; and the Los Angeles area, where swastikas, racial slurs and “Go Back To Africa” were spray painted on sidewalks, houses and cars.

_Second- and third-grade students on a school bus in Rexburg, Idaho, chanted “assassinate Obama,” a district official said.

_University of Alabama professor Marsha L. Houston said a poster of the Obama family was ripped off her office door. A replacement poster was defaced with a death threat and a racial slur. “It seems the election brought the racist rats out of the woodwork,” Houston said.

In addition, some remarks being reported:

Potok, who is white, said he believes there is “a large subset of white people in this country who feel that they are losing everything they know, that the country their forefathers built has somehow been stolen from them.”

Grant Griffin, a 46-year-old white Georgia native, expressed similar sentiments: “I believe our nation is ruined and has been for several decades and the election of Obama is merely the culmination of the change.

“If you had real change it would involve all the members of (Obama’s) church being deported,” he said.

Change in whatever form does not come easy, and a black president is “the most profound change in the field of race this country has experienced since the Civil War,” said William Ferris, senior associate director of the Center for the Study of the American South at the University of North Carolina. “It’s shaking the foundations on which the country has existed for centuries.”

Thanks Doug. There were more but too many to list – you get the point. Obama in office is a great thing but unfortunately it is bringing out the worst in racism. And all that being said, not surprisingly Obama has had more death threats than any other president elect, and my guess it will continue throughout his tenure.

I felt the community coming together during the election process but now I see it was only those in favor of Obama. The racists came together all right but their agenda was totally different. Community in their mind starts with a ‘w’ but ‘world’ is not the word.  And now I am thinking racial issues are going to be even more challenging because the racist whites are feeling threatened and it seems they will stop at nothing to regain the control that they have lost.

Now anonz has informed us of the cultish ways of the Mormon church. And now the RNC wants to legitimize this faith so that it will be accepted by the rest of America!  You’ve got to be kidding me. I don’t know much about this so-called religion except the widely known polygamy aspects and the ‘keeping down’ of their women – which is disturbing enough.

But to hear that Theocracy is the goal of the leaders of the Mormon cult and that the RNC is backing them in this is downright scary. This is not only a threat to OTW’s but to the women in this country on a level that could be worse than we have ever experienced before.

Thanks Anonz. I have to think about this and let it all sink in….Readers: do you all realize what anonz is saying or am I the only one that is seeing the detriment in his words? Or am I just thinking the worst? We know how powerful the RNC is. We know how stubborn racism is and just what is capable when racists and sexists are threatened.

Hi Nawzad: In regards to your comment. Thank you for your kind words. I am torn. Sometimes I have that same dream too. You live in a world that could be my reality someday.

Hi Sherie: I too enjoy hearing from the aliens but they are on their own right now. I’m sure at some point they’ll check in. But I know what you mean…it is fascinating to hear the ‘space talk’.

Tal, Viv, Gleia:  Anything you want to add here – please comment if you are available.
