Michelle Jenneke: Australian hurdler

Good morning!

Today, I’m going to keep it light and fun. I’m just in that kind of mood.

A source sent me this write. And the video…well the video is a fun watch. It will put a smile on your face as it did mine. This girl is awesome at her talent, blows past the competition, and is just too cute for words.

Michelle Jenneke, Dancing Australian Hurdler, Wins World Junior Championship 100-Meter Heat (VIDEO) (UPDATED)

Michelle Jenneke, a young Australian hurdler, is taking the Internet by storm with her performance during the IAAF World Junior Championship last weekend in Barcelona.

But while she completely dominated her first women’s 100-meter hurdle heat (and placed fifth in the final), it’s Jenneke’s warm up dance that’s making her famous around the Web.

According to Bleacher Report, the sports blog With Leather originally posted raw, live-stream footage of the 19-year-old’s pre-race routine, but it was taken down and replaced with an “overt celebration of Jenneke and her dancing and running presented in gratuitous slow motion, and with an awful song over it.”

With Leather was rather unapologetic about sexualizing Jenneke’s warm-up dance, releasing its own super slow-motion cut.

USA Today took a more sedate angle on what it called Jenneke’s “unique way of stretching,” writing, “You have to appreciate anyone who enjoys themselves this much.”

Update:
Jenneke’s fame continues to spread, and the Australian media aren’t holding back on her routine, calling the teenager’s warm-up “sexy” and claiming that she’s “set hearts ablaze.”

“Fans are confident this is only the beginning, and expect to see the [Jenneke] wiggling — and racing — at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games in 2016,” Sky Newsreported.

Australian news also added details about the track starlet’s personal life. According to News.co.au, Jenneke is a Sydney-area native from the northwest suburb of Kenthurst. Apart from hurdling, her hobbies include Australian football, soccer, handball and taking care of her pet cats and dogs.

As far back as she can remember, [Jenneke] has had a passion for hurdling, even lining up teddy bears for jumping practice at her parent’s home when she was very young,” the News Limited wrote.

Jenneke will not compete in the London Olympics this year, but the sexualization of female athletes in the media has been a widely discussed topic surrounding the 2012 games. On the other hand, there has also been coverage that celebrates the power of female athletes.

Readers: I think this girl just loves what she does and is no doubt having some fun.

Howie: I realize that I have not been commenting on the tales of Tsarme/Tsarmi, but I have been reading and I have to say that it is quite amazing. I HOPE that the healing process is going well and that the aliens come together on this and return Tsarme to Earth for his protection. I can’t imagine what his mother Uyber must be going though.

PS: I also enjoyed the story of the little blueberry sized crabs. The visual is fantastic – the story fascinating. Thanks for sharing both.

Before I sign off, I want to first say how deeply sorry I am for the two boys lives taken in Chicago, and the 17 people + the many hurt in Aurora, Colorado. My heart goes out to the families and friends affected. This is just crazy that this is kind of thing is happening in this world.

Peace & Love…where was it in Aurora? Spread it today wherever you are.

Happy Father’s Day!

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 17th June 2012

Bookmark and Share

Good morning!

First of all I want to wish all of you fathers out there a fabulous father’s day!

I’ll be spending the day on Tuesday with my father. My father, is an artist, and I grew up visiting museums here and in many parts of the world. I enjoyed learning about fine art and grew to appreciate the many mediums that I was exposed to. We still visit museums every now and then together, but it’s not just about fine art. We enjoy looking at fashion together as well. My mother and I are taking my father to see the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit at the De Young Museum. Gaultier, was my main inspiration, in my younger years of designing. I thought his designs were whimsical and brilliant. Still do.

However, my first inspiration was my father. When I was young, around 17, I remember crying to my father that I had no idea what I was going to do with my life. I felt frustrated that I didn’t have direction…didn’t know what I was going to study in college.  Instead of my father laughing at me, he patiently sat with me and said that it was OK – there was plenty of time to figure it out.

And figure it out, I did. I discovered that, like many young girls I loved fashion, but it wasn’t until I interviewed with a design school in San Francisco, that I decided I was going to design. During my interview I was asked what field I wanted to venture into, Merchandising or Design. I hesitated in answering, as I was not clear. But my father was. He looked at me and said, “You want to design don’t you?” And I said, “Well, yes. I want to be a designer”.

And that’s how it all began. I am grateful that my father said those words to me, or I might not have chose to become a designer, and I might not have ever experienced the abundance creativity that I have been able to express all of these years through my work. Thanks Dad – I love you.

Here’s a write from Marlo Thomas sharing her experiences with her father:

Father’s Day: What We Learned at Dad’s Knee

Sometimes in the wee hours of the morning I’d hear that funny sound of an audiotape being rewound. Running backwards it sounded like a Swedish movie. I’d get out of bed and go into Dad’s study. And there he’d be — listening, taking notes, going over his act from his last nightclub engagement and getting it ready for the next.

“You hear that, Mugs?” he’d say. “That’s a big laugh, but the one after it is weak. You have to pace the laughs. I’m gonna put a song in there.” He had an ear for the rhythm, the music of the comedy.

My father’s respect for the audience was his compass. When he hunched over the tape recorder like that, he was shaping the act for them — not for himself, not for the critics. And when I went to Las Vegas and saw the act working the way I had watched him put it together, it was exciting. I felt like a co-conspirator, a rooting section.

But first and foremost, I was a daughter. And though he may not have known it, I was learning at his knee — about the love of work, and the integrity of professionalism.

Not all kids go into their dad’s professions, but for those of us who did, there was a wide array of reasons.

For the Kennedys, the children were instilled with leadership by their patriarch, Joe, and each assumed that role when it was his or turn, almost as an obligation. For the Ripken men of the Baltimore Orioles — now celebrating a third-generation wearing black and orange — it was a more natural kind of inheritance, one that began with something as simple as playing catch in the backyard and then grew into a beloved legacy. For Nat and Natalie Cole, it was all about continuity — keeping that beautiful music playing.

I wasn’t expected to go into show business. In fact, my father was very much against the idea. He knew firsthand how bruising the business can be, and he wanted to spare me the pain. He was also very practical. Already a star himself, he told me point-blank that it was a long shot that lightning would strike twice in the same family, and that I should rethink what I wanted to do with my life.

But by then, I was already a goner. Maybe it’s fate, maybe it’s DNA — but I’d like to believe that, when we were young, our fathers gave us more than just guidance, or advice, or an allowance, or help with our homework. They taught us life by example. And when we watched them in their careers, we got to see their triumphs and their failures up close. And if we watched them close enough — and we were lucky — we sometimes got to witness the deep satisfaction and unchecked joy that comes from doing what you love.

And so on this Father’s Day, I once again look heavenward and thank my sweet ol’ dad for giving his oldest kid the space to defy his wishes about becoming a teacher or a housewife or the junior Senator from California — because she decided she liked what she saw in her Pop, and she went with that. And by the way, Daddy, she’s very, very happy.

We’ve compiled a slideshow of some other celebrated dads, along with the children who followed in their footsteps. I can’t think of a better way to honor Father’s Day. I hope you enjoy it. Click here to view the slide show.

To Our Beloved Golden Gate: Happy 75th Birthday!

Good morning!

In celebration of the Golden Gate’s 75th birthday,  I thought just posting a photo was perfectly fitting. And…what better photo to post than one of my adored Grandmother and my precious Mother, as a young child, walking across our beloved bridge on opening day, with other family members.

This was a recently discovered picture that I had never seen before until we went through my grandmother’s photos after her passing over a month ago. I absolutely love the photo – it is such a memorable occasion – I wanted to share it with all of you on such a special day.

Mother and Grandmother: Opening Day Golden Gate Bridge

*****

Readers: Isn’t it just simply fantastic? And you’ve just got to LOVE the styles of the day. Do you have a relevant photo that was taken on this day? I know you can’t post here but care to share why it is so special to you? Blog me. If you are celebrating in the events today, have an amazing time!

Social Butterfly: Thank you. The music at Carnival yesterday was fantastic – love to dance to music that really moves me and makes me move.

Sorry to hear you were not feeling well and missed the 50th, and that you won’t be participating this year. I was on the bridge for the 50th and I have to tell you it was a party…and yet not. I was stuck, literally in a crowd that was not moving, and I have to say it was not a comfortable feeling. Other than that, I enjoyed myself during the festivities, but was happy to be off the bridge when I was finally able to. I have decided not to partake in the events today. But I am sure they will be quite memorable.

Anonymous: Typo –  Thanks for the correction. I see that verse in no stranger to you.

Oh Eric: Didn’t mean to slight you, of course, if you had met me perhaps you wouldn’t have been so slight.

Have a beautiful Sunday everyone no matter what is on your agenda!

Peace & Love….

Wonderful Women Of The World

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 11th April 2012

Bookmark and Share

Good morning!

So how is everyone doing? It’s Wednesday and I thought not only will I recognize a Wonderful Woman Of The World (WWOTW), but a little humor to start off my morning (for some of you it will be early afternoon, but hey, any time of the day is a good time to laugh), was in order.

I am a big fan of Hillary Clinton. More so now as the years have gone by and I have witnessed her growing badass attitude – and I mean that all in a good way. Don’t you just love how she has come into her power? I am cheering her for all of her accomplishments and all that she does for women around the world.

Today while perusing the net, I came upon this write on the Huff Po that just made my morning a bit brighter, not to mention “LOLZ”:

Hillary Clinton Thanks ‘Texts From Hillary’ Guys For The ‘LOLZ’

WASHINGTON — On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton took a few minutes away from her texting (and all her other duties as secretary of state) and met with the two guys who have turned her into the latest Internet meme.

In less than a week, the blog “Texts from Hillary” has become an online sensation, boosting Clinton’s public image in the process. As Benjy Sarlin of TPM wrote, “When she was running for the Democratic presidential nomination, Hillary Clinton was parodied as drab and calculated, especially compared with young and vigorous Barack Obama and winking and fresh-faced Sarah Palin. Now, she’s fueling Internet jokes based on her own brand of badass cool.”

Stacy Lambe and Adam Smith, the two guys behind the site, said they received an email from a member of Clinton’s staff on Monday afternoon, out of the blue.

“We didn’t even believe it at first,” said Smith. “Stacy and I IMed each other at the same time, basically saying, ‘Oh my god, this email!’”

The staffer invited them over to the State Department, saying the secretary loved the site and wanted to meet them. Her staff also submitted Clinton’s own idea for a post to the site, which went up on Tuesday. In it, Clinton calls out Smith and Lambe for their creation (and makes a scrunchie joke).

Smith said that the submission was from Clinton herself — although she may have had some help on it — and that they talked about it with her at the meeting. She told them that her favorite post was the one with Ryan Gosling.

“Her staff is a delight,” said Lambe. “Everybody was really nice and really excited about what’s happened over the past few days. Of course, Hillary Clinton thought it was hilarious and had a good laugh and was very nice and welcome — and very generous to take a few minutes of her time to take some photos with us.”

In fact, Clinton suggested that the three of them pose in the photos with their blackberries, checking their text messages. She even whipped out her famous sunglasses.

“I would just say that her meeting with us proves the point that we were trying to make with the site,” said Smith.

Clinton also gave each of them signed copies of her “Texts from Hillary” submission.

Smith’s signed copy, on which Clinton signed her name “Hillz”:

Readers: If I haven’t said it here before, I will say it again, “Hillary Clinton is definitely a WWOTW. And no doubt, “Hillz” in my mind, has all the attributes of being considered a “Girlz“.

Zen Lill: Sorry, I don’t have it the original e-mail anymore. But I give you permission to drag the photo off of my blog if you want to repost it.

Rufus: My thoughts exactly. Well…not exactly but the scenario and end result is the same. Hit ‘em where it hurts. And it hurts when the laws they fought to put in action, fights back at their own.

Kenny: I liked your rant.

Oscar: Like I said, “Hit ‘em where it hurts”.

Erica, Nancy: I have something to say with respect to your comments. I am not saying that Oscar or any other OTW should go out and look for trouble, or target whites racially, just so they can kill at will And I am not speaking for Oscar, but I don’t think Oscar is thinking that way either.

But I also think that if human beings really did resolve their issues with non violence first and foremost before resorting to violence, we wouldn’t be living in such a violent world, and a insane law such as “Stand Your Ground”, basically a “license to kill”, wouldn’t have been legislated in the first place.

It’s a nice thought, and I agree with you, if we all thought the same, but unfortunately many people don’t.  So tell that to all of the racists out there who can’t see past the color of an OTW’s skin. Trayvon was asking why he was being followed, begging for his life, and Zimmerman hunted him down like animal after his prey, and shot him dead.

There was no issue to resolve – at least not one that could be resolved. The issue was, the boy was black. Period. Not something that could be resolved. Trayvon can’t change the color of his skin. The fact is:  ”You are black, I don’t like you; I want you dead”.

So yes, I repeat, it is a nice thought but tell that to all of the families of the black boys and men who get killed, and no jUStice is done.

Violence isn’t the best answer and not one that I promote to resolve an issue. But when it comes to a matter of saving your life, and the other person doesn’t see you as an equal human being, and threatens you, sometimes violence is the only answer. And you had better be prepared and protect yourself just in case you are in such a situation, where there is no “resolving of issues in a nice way”…or you might end up dead.

In my opinion, unless OTW’s “stand their ground” and do something, this insanity will continue and people like Zimmeman are going to walk away scott free, while black boys lay dead in the streets, soon to be forgotten like the many.

I wrote this a few weeks ago and I still stand by my words:

I wish that Trayvon Martin’s murder was the last of these heinous crimes against young black boys and really any OTW, but it would only be HOPEful thinking, because I so strongly want things to change…for Trayvon’s murder to be a reminder of all the murders of black boys such as Trayvon that have come before him, and the impetus to stop the murders of black boys in the future.

Hmm..It makes me think. If I were an OTW who lived in “stand your ground” states, I would go get myself a gun. And if anyone got in my face, and threatened me in my space calling me a nigger, wetback, (what are those other names you use George, WN?) while invading my legal non-retreating space, I would “stand my ground”, pull out my gun and shoot. And if I  killed the offender, he would not be there to answer otherwise. But I would only do it if I felt threatened. I would not break the law and do it just because I didn’t like white folks. Of course, we all know, if enough white people got killed, the law would change in the proverbial hot minute. Then and only then.

“See Jane notice all of the Senators running down to the legislative house to change that law.”

Well, I wanted to keep it light and humorous but I just had to say something.  I’m done – your turn.  Oops I see many of you blogged this morning already.  I guess I better post asap. :) Blog me.

Robert, RT: Miss seeing you here – wha’at’s up?

Lastly, greed over a great story is surfacing from my “loyal”(?) readers. With all this back and forth about who owns what, that appears on my blog, let me reiterate that all material posted on my blog becomes the sole property of my blog. If you want to reserve any proprietary rights don’t post it to my blog. I will prominently display this caveat on my blog from now on to remind those who may have forgotten this notice.

Gratefully your blog host,

Wonderful Women Of The World

Good morning!

This was e-mailed to me. I love it. I have no idea who the writer is, the woman who is holding it, or whether the woman pictured is the actual writer. I just know that I love it. And I love it so much that I just had to reprint the words below the picture to stress her wonderful words.

I AM A WOMAN

And NO MAN, NO GROUP OF MEN, AND NO INSTITUTION

holds dominion over me, my mind, my body, my life, my choices, my vagina, or my uterus

If  you attempt to restrict my access – or my sisters’ access to health care of contraception,

WE WILL FIGHT YOU

AND

WE WILL WIN

Do not fool yourselves for ONE MOMENT that you have the right to speak

for women, their choices, their thoughts, or their lives ANY MORE.

Your attempts to own is, to harm us, to control us, to dictate policy to us,

to impose your will over us – IS AT AN END.

You look scared, and I can smell your fear. And you should be afraid.

Cause we aren’t going to take your shit anymore.

We know how to direct 80% of the buying power and we know how to vote.

The age of the old, crooked, white men is over. Consider this the death knell.

Deep down you know it. And we know it, too.

Oh, and one more thing… deprive us of access

and we will deprive YOU of access.

If you take my meaning.

WE ARE THE MAJORITY.

WE ARE THE 52%

*****

Readers: I could not have said it any better. To the woman who wrote this, who is definitely a Wonderful Woman Of The World, whoever she is, where ever she is: Thank you!

I think it is a powerful pledge to live by.  Are you girls with me? Blog me.

Peace, Love & Girl Power.
