The Beautiful and Efficient Anatomy of Pregnancy

Good morning!

Jessie,  Sam: Is this the video you were referring to?

The Beautiful and Efficient Anatomy of Pregnancy

I have spent most of the last decade focusing on the marvels of developmental biology — “the study of how multicellular organisms develop from immature forms into an adult.” I study this using scientific visualization technologies that my team at TheVisualMD have developed. It’s almost impossible to express how privileged I’ve felt to watch the process of conception to birth, as genetic mechanisms dynamically instruct each fetal cell of where to go and what to become.

In the 7th, 8th, and 9th weeks, a baby’s lungs develop. In this finely tuned and choreographed fetal development process, the right lung grows longer and separates into three lobes while the left lung forms only two because the heart needs to grow; this protrusion, these heart cells, actually “talk” to the developing cells of the lung, saying, “Hey, I need some room here”. These lungs’ asymmetry accommodates the architecture and design of the cardiovascular system. Our beautiful and efficient anatomy is truly awesome and endlessly fascinating.

When I began to review the scans of babies that captured each micrometer of developing tissue, my son was in utero. There were so many revelations that surprised and deeply affected me. Suddenly, my work on development was very personal… my son can be seen at the tail end of this film, “From a Cell to a Baby“! This early work has been recently updated in a new interactive iBook “Conception to Birth“.

My goal is to visualize life in all its glory. And to see how daily lifestyle decisions affect the choreography of all of our cellular activity, causing disturbances stored in trillions of X, Y, Z coordinates.- Alexander Tsiaras

My decade-long focus on embryonic and fetal development began to connect to another set of imaging data we had been assembling. These scans of adults represented the toll that genetics and lifestyle could have on the adult human organism. I began to focus on the biological processes of illness — most often illnesses that were lifestyle-related and not nearly as viscerally uplifting as the marvels of conception, fetal development and birth.

I became all too familiar with a condition known as Metabolic Syndrome. This syndrome is a combination of medical symptoms — obesity, dyslipidemia, high blood pressure, glucose abnormalities — that put people at risk for stroke, heart disease, and kidney disease. As I began to witness the ravages of this syndrome on a younger and younger segment of the population, it struck me that I needed to circle back to the embryo in the womb to fully understand this disturbing trend.

2013-01-18-Screenshot20130117at7.47.39PM.png

Seeing overweight pregnant women with metabolic syndrome is not uncommon. Suddenly, our cherished image of the untainted and pristine embryo in the womb has to be redefined. More and more research is pointing to the fact that embryos are responding to the higher levels of sugars and insulin in the fetal environment; fetal beta cells are respond, making these babies more prone to metabolic disorders themselves as they grow up.

2013-01-18-Screenshot20130117at7.48.26PM.png

In my earlier days, I marveled at the symbiotic relationship that the developing child and mother shared. I saw only unbridled potential… the mother as a magnificent mobile heart/lung/immunology protector. Now I view pregnancy not as a perfectly loving mobile spa, but rather, as a fragile environment, one that must be kept healthy at all costs if a developing fetus is ever to be allowed to experience the delicate imperative of each of its genes.

2013-01-18-Screenshot20130117at7.49.22PM.png

Through our technologies, we can actually visualize lifestyle culprits such a metabolic syndrome, and work to take action on taming them. In visualizing these culprits, our research has led us to point the finger at refined nutrients — particularly refined sugars and refined starches. These toxins — coupled with chronic stress, chronic sleeplessness and inactivity — are defying all of the medical strides that we’ve made in the last few decades.

2013-01-18-Screenshot20130117at7.50.18PM.png

My goal is to visualize life in all its glory. And to see how daily lifestyle decisions affect the choreography of all of our cellular activity, causing disturbances stored in trillions of X, Y, Z coordinates. I believe that through this visual understanding of our metabolic processes, we can set ourselves on a path of limitless potential. We will once more be able to marvel at that pristine embryo and think only positive, exquisite thoughts!

  1. HOWIE Says:

This is a continuation of my comment #19 yesterday concerning Australia hosting the Aliens visiting the earth.

Obama is sending two B-2 stealth bombers based in Missouri to Guam to back up the US military because he is not as trusting of the aliens as he was before one of his first envoys were eaten by some aliens. The planes from the 509th Bomb Wing at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri will temporarily operate out of Andersen Air Force Base on Guam.

The Australians are excited about being chosen as host for the aliens. They are not aware that one of the reasons is that their countries exist under a zone which has a hole in the Ozone layer of the earth. That fact gives the Aliens the ability to enter the area fully cloaked without alerting any human means of recordation.

Also it cooks the humans under it in a way that makes them even more appetizing to those aliens that view the earth as a cattle planet. Therefore Australia is a win/win for both factions of aliens . . . those that are for offering humans a place in the intergalactic community and those who want to keep it as a cattle planet.

    HOWIE

  2. Paul Says:

fantastic Howie. But are you sure there is a hole in the Ozone over Australia? I have been following your input with as much scientific look up as I can. So far you are great.

  3. Carla Says:

Michelle this could have been written by one of those anti abortion leagues.

  4. Carla Says:

Sorry Michelle, I clicked too soon. I am so glad that you put it in and called it what it was. You are not one to be fooled. That’s why I love this blog.

  5. Jackie Says:

Howie, my brothers are so in love with me again because I introduced them to you. They think you are secretly an alien. I tell them that with all the conversation from Israel to you that you are as human as we are.

But you know men, they have to know it all.

  6. Zen Lill Says:

Perry, anyone with vision can see that black men and women have superior physiology especially as needed for sports ability, it’s a huge sore spot with other men including even the OTW men that are not black. 3 of my favorite gymrats are built (and hunky) black men, when a white man or even a latino man friend see me chatting a titch too close for their comfort they feel free to say things ‘I didn’t know you were into ‘that” (uh-huh, and I didn’t know you were so insecure/easily threatened) is what I want to say but I rub it in harder…I say, ‘what’s NOT to be into?! He’s totally buff and good looking and genuinely nice, what more could you ask for?’ tee hee…no I’m not dating either of the 3 though 2 have made it clear they’d go there if and when I’m not otherwise preoccupied. Very nicely worded I thought. One of em’ has all the women drooling and rightfully so ; ) it takes a secure white dude to hold his own around all that.

Just noticing: men are perfectly comfortable talking about how jealous women always act about (their) men, but it’s really supposed to fly under my radar when they talk this way? It’s the ultimate in juvenile jealous behavior, making another look bad or demeaning another for his skin color bc you can’t measure up on your own, oh please…really…??

…and I’m still dumbfounded that women are ‘putting up with’ bad sex lives to live in a secure environment, as long as you have to be there and assuming there’s some attraction, why wouldn’t you get in there down and dirty and ask for your sexual needs to be met? Or get in there and handle things to show him how it’s done? Why would you forgo your own pleasure, you can’t mean to tell me most men don’t want to make their partners stoked about being in bed with them? Have I been living in some other man realm? I’m positive in some parts of the world that this may not happen but Olga says her friends are here in the states and as far as I know lots of women here are getting some sex they’re enjoying, or am I totally wrong?? Please enlighten me…

    Luv, Zen Lill

  7. Zen Lill Says:

Howie, awesome reporting there, thank you. I’m always thankful when you return. Luv ya, blog bro

  8. Zen Lill Says:

Howie, it’s an inconsequential question but I’ve always wondered where the naming comes in, is G911/02 some kind of meaningful coordinate like our latitude/longitude here or is there another reason for the numbers with /’s in it, just curious…thank you. I love that Obama wanted to go out to meet them in a craft, probably the previous 42 would’ve asked for their veep to go (or anyone but them : ) You have to admit, going out into space not know what may await you takes cajones.
    Luv, Zen Lill

  9. Giggles Says:

Zen Lill, thank you for making me giggle….did you mean “cojones” (slang for ‘balls’) or “cajones” (word for drawers) when you said “…You have to admit, going out into space not know what may await you takes cajones”? Ihad to laugh at the thought of going out in drawers….. ;-)

  10. HOWIE Says:

    Zen Lill #8 today:

Your question is not inconsequential. I once wondered what all those numbers and slashes were when Aliens posted comments.

It is a combination of something comparable to name, rank, and serial number for the Alien military.

Great questiion because I am sure there are readers who do not understand this system either but do not ask for fear of seeming foolish. They are Alien and many things they do are alien to humans, including the way they Identify themselves.

    HOWIE

  11. law of attraction money quotes Says:
