Disturbing child abuse case links Australians to paedophile ring

Two Australian men hid their role in a disturbing child abuse case behind an image of two doting fathers, but the shocking evidence against them is part of a police effort to break an international paedophile ring, and a warning that this report contains confronting material.
LEIGH SALES, PRESENTER: It’s a case that defies belief and goes against every principle of parenthood.
An Australian man and his partner purchased a baby boy in Russia in 2005, presenting themselves as a devoted pair of gay fathers.
In reality, behind closed doors, they were sexually abusing the boy and allowing others to do the same from when he was less than two years old.
On the weekend Australian citizen Mark Newton was sentenced in the US to 40 years in prison. His partner Peter Truong is awaiting his sentence.
Caro Meldrum Hanna has this report and a warning this story contains disturbing and explicit sexual references.
GINGER GORMAN, ABC RADIO: Testing this is Ginger from ABC far north.
CARO MELDRUM-HANNA, REPORTER: It was June 2010, ABC local radio presenter Ginger Gorman was setting out to meet an interesting family in Trinity Beach in Far North Queensland.
GINGER GORMAN: I was putting together a series of interviews on gender. This particular interview was with a couple who were gay dads, and they had been on a long journey to have a child via surrogacy.
CARO MELDRUM-HANNA: On all appearances American man Mark Newton and his Australian partner, Peter Truong, were a proud couple. Pictured here posing with their adopted son who we will call Boy one. These are the sounds Ginger Gorman recorded that day, playing with the boy and his pet baby chickens in the backyard.
PETER TRUONG: Have you fed them this morning?
BOY ONE: No.
PETER TRUONG: Oh, here’s one.
BOY ONE: One’s harder to get.
PETER TRUONG: Yeah?
GINGER GORMAN: Do you know what this chicken’s name is?
BOY ONE: No, I haven’t figured out the name.
PETER TRUONG: I don’t think he’s named them yet.
BOY ONE: I gonna call them chick nasty.
GINGER GORMAN: I felt no sense that anything was wrong. For all intents and purposes this appeared to be a loving family and a loving household. And I’ve gone over and over it in my brain and I just did not feel that anything was wrong.
CARO MELDRUM-HANNA: Mark Newton and Peter Truong were masters of deception, starting with finding a surrogate mother abroad.

PETER TRUONG: I gave up my career and my job and went to Russia to oversee the process and so obviously we’re very dedicated to making this work. Our budget was anything that we earned, anything we had saved and anything that we could borrow to make this happen.
GINGER GORMAN: And why was it your sperm that was used, and not Pete’s, Mark?
MARK NEWTON: A flip of the coin I think. We’d gone back and forth several times.
CARO MELDRUM-HANNA: This was the first of many lies told by Newton and Truong, whose depraved secret life was uncovered a year and a half later, when in February 2012 the men were arrested in California. Charged with producing and sharing child pornography and extreme acts of sexual exploitation.
GINGER GORMAN: I’m profoundly shocked and disgusted by what’s happened. Since then I am just revolted and I find myself quite despairing about the turn of events.
JON ROUSE, QUEENSLAND POLICE: The purchase of a child to bring the child into your life for the explicit and sole purpose of exploiting him across a network of men is incredibly depraved and a very, very sad tale for that little boy.
CARO MELDRUM-HANNA: The sad story of Boy 1′s life begins here in Russia. According to US court documents, in July 2005 his mother sold him to Newton and Truong for US$8,000. His birth papers were falsified to list Newton and his biological father, paving the way for Boy one to be adopted and brought to Queensland. Six years would pass until August 2011 when a chance discovery was made here in Wellington, New Zealand, by Jon Peacock, a senior internal affairs investigator.
JON PEACOCK, NZ DEPARTMENT OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS: During the investigation of a Wellington man, the forensic analysis of his machine identified a series of images of Boy one who was shirtless. And they were quite contrived staged photos, if you like that just, as I said, didn’t sit right in terms of standard family holiday type snap shots.
CARO MELDRUM-HANNA: Peacock sent the images to police attached to Operation Argus in Brisbane. The specialised branch responsible for investigating online child exploitation and abuse.
JON PEACOCK: Our reaction is exactly what Jon’s was, and that’s what sparked the investigation.
CARO MELDRUM-HANNA: The images were the tip of the iceberg. Police discovered chat logs between Truong, Newton and the New Zealand man, where they bragged about having sex with their son Boy one, since he was little. And had given him to several other men around the world for sex, including two men based in Indianapolis in the US who are being investigated by police.
STEVEN DEBROTA, DEPUTY US ATTORNEY, INDIANAPOLIS: When he was about five years of age the conspiracy was joined, we allege, by Mr Powell who is an attorney in Florida in the United States, and Mr Beda who is a tennis coach in Illinois in the United States. They got involved with Boy one, we allege, when he was about four to five years of age.
CARO MELDRUM-HANNA: The four men form part of a network known broadly as the Boy Lovers Network, men who believe that the sexual abuse and rape of boys from as young as two years old to 10 years old, is a form of consensual love between man and boy. At its height, this chat board, Boylover.net had 70,000 members worldwide. In 2009 Boylover.net was smashed in a series of global raids with several Australian men arrested.
UNKNOWN: Six hundred and seventy suspects have been identified. One hundred and eighty four arrests have already been made, and 230 children as victims of this terrible crimes have been identified and rescued from further harm.
JON ROUSE: They are intrinsically networked, they have a very strict code of communication between themselves and certainly as this case highlighted, their level of cooperation is usually very, very low.
CARO MELDRUM-HANNA: When task force Argos raided Truong and Newton’s Cairns home in October 2011, a mountain of material was discovered on encrypted hard drives and computer networks. It was handed over to US prosecutors.
STEVEN DEBROTA: Took me personally one solid week working 10 hour days to get through all of the child pornography that was just the videos filmed in Australia, in France and in different places across the US.
CARO MELDRUM-HANNA: One video showed Boy one performing sex acts on Newton, with a disturbing level of sophistication when he wasn’t even two years old. When the boy turned five, in one month alone, Newton video himself engaging in sexual activity with Boy one on more than a dozen different occasions.
STEVEN DEBROTA: One way they control and manipulated this child was to appear to the outside world as a good parent. And one of the things they did was they trained this child how to answer questions from potential investigators.
CARO MELDRUM-HANNA: US authorities have found videos involving two more boys at Truong and Newton’s Cairns home.
STEVEN DEBROTA: I can’t say too much about the identity of that child. I can say that the victimisation of Boy two occurred in Australia. We can confirm that this conspiracy we allege involving Boy one, Boy two and others was international in scope.
CARO MELDRUM-HANNA: The authorities are now determined to track down every man who abused Boy one.
JON ROUSE: With this network just be rest assured that we will pursue them to the ends of the Earth to make sure each and every one of them faces justice for what their role has been in crimes against this child.

Hafa adai, those two articles yesterday just showed how piggish and disgusting men can be. So I thought this article would be appropriate.

Guam – Over the weekend the Department of Agriculture and Guam Coastal Zone Management held a succesful pig hunting derby.
The goal of the derby is to reduce the wild and ferel pig population on Guam as they contribute to soil erosion, destroy native plants and eat farm crops. 95 people participated, over 50 pigs were caught and the largest pig weighed over 200 pounds.
Pig derby organizer Christine Camacho says that the first place winner of each category will be awarded with 500 dollars. Camacho says there were a lot of archers, youth hunters and even female hunters.

Pig caught in the derby will be cooked at the pork in the park cook off which is this Saturday the 21st from 1-5pm on the front lawn of Adelup. It’s free and open to the public.

Michelle, I read your comment to Jacob. He is not the only one who gets off on looking at the woman with down to earth advice and fierce loyalty to her sex.
I love reading your take on the issues of the previous day and yes, I too sometimes imagine that you are addressing only me. My big desire is to hear your voice. You should make a video and post the link.

She must be visiting some favorite watering hole. But alas, I stuck on Guam which is the other reason I am commenting today. Our boys in the military representing Guam are coming home from Afghanistan.

1-294th Infantry Regiment Subscribe To This Unit

Staff Sgt. Jeff D. Kosaka of Headquarters-Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 294th Infantry Regiment, Guam Army National Guard, loads duffel bags and ruck sacks onto a vehicle recently as Task Force Guam’s first wave of soldiers began departing Afghanistan after nearing completion of its Operation Enduring Freedom commitment.
CAMP PHOENIX, Afghanistan – Operation Enduring Freedom is quickly coming to a close for the Guam Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 294th Infantry Regiment.
Task Force Guam’s first wave of troops departed Afghanistan today and will soon return to U.S. soil to commence a redeployment process. Overall, Guam will depart Afghanistan in clusters, with its final push slated for late December.
“You can see everyone’s excited and they should be. We’ve been here nine months and have been a very, very busy battalion,” said Maj. Rickey M. Flores, Task Force Guam executive officer who’s leading the first group out of the country.
“There’s still a lot that needs to be done before we finally make our way to Guam. But right now, this is an important day. We’re starting to come home. We’ll be with our families very soon.”
Guam occupied various locations in Afghanistan and its exodus will take place at multiple terminals. In stages, Guam soldiers will unite at an American base in Europe before flying to Camp Shelby, Miss., for medical and administrative out-processing.
Likewise, Guam’s replacement command – 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, United States Army – continues trickling into Afghanistan and will reach full strength by the time Guam officially transfers authority shortly after Christmas Day.
“They’re our new best friends,” Lt. Col. Michael Tougher, Task Force Guam commander, said about the 508th. “We’re providing as much information on how we operated as a Task Force so they can plan their operations. Every aspect, from our platoon sergeants to company commanders to special staff, is actively engaged in this transition.”
The 508th will operate as Task Force 2-Fury, says Maj. Mike J. McDermott, executive officer. McDermott is part of an advanced team that arrived early December to start the transition.
“Task Force Guam is squared away,” McDermott said. “We’ve been looking at their [standard operating procedures] and checking what needs to be changed. Honestly, we couldn’t think of anything. That says a lot about the Guam National Guard.”
This is the first time the 508th will replace a National Guard unit, McDermott explained. Unlike the 294th’s strength of nearly 600 soldiers, Task Force 2-Fury will operate with about 400 troops and still show presence in the International Security Assistance Force’s six regional commands, just like Guam.
“This is a totally different mission than what we’ve previously done,” said McDermott. “But we’re a very experienced battalion.”
The 508th is making is fourth OEF deployment since 2007. Some soldiers were here in 2012, said 1st Lt. William Hernandez, Task Force 2-Fury personnel officer.
When Guam officially concludes OEF, it will have amassed more than 10,000 missions in roles such as personal security, guardian angels and security forces, Flores stated. Other responsibilities include perimeter security and entry control point missions, and all served a critical point in the NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan and Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan’s overall goal to support Afghanistan’s national security.
“Everyone was committed to duty despite the dangers that existed,” Flores stated. “Soldiers were still willing to put their lives on the line for the greater good.”

Those men are too sick. But the men who are members of the web site dedicated to the abuse of minors is way over the top. They need to be locked up forever because if they get paroled, they will continue abusing children.

Happy Holidays everybody. I can’t talk about sick men anymore. They are everywhere and they are not going away, much to my disappointment. So as I seem to often do, I’m inserting a new subject.
Daniel Jose Older, a writer on salon.com, penned an excellent piece called “It’s Time To Take The White Savior Out of Slave Narratives.” I think it’s a good read worth considering.

In December of 1836, black abolitionist David Ruggles boarded a Portuguese slave ship in the New York harbor, freed its captives and had the white captain arrested. Tensions still ran high in the city from two years earlier, when whites had launched coordinated attacks against black businesses and neighborhoods in lower Manhattan. As the trial of the captain proceeded (he was never convicted), Ruggles barely escaped a kidnap attempt by a gang of slave traders in retaliation for his activism.
The story of Solomon Northup, which “12 Years A Slave” chronicles in heartbreaking detail, comes from a similar moment of American tumultuousness: White slave traders kidnapped Northup, a husband and father of two, and sold him to a southern plantation. Northup languished for twelve years before secreting a letter to his people in Saratoga with a benevolent white man and securing his freedom.
“12 Years A Slave” is a stunning cinematic achievement. Director Steve McQueen attacks the brutality of slavery with an unflinching eye, spares us no detail of the degradation that white America inflicted on the people it considered its property. The performances, particularly of Chiwetel Ejiofor and Lupita N’yongo, are breathtaking; we feel the depth of each character with a few simple cinematic strokes.
About three quarters through the movie, Brad Pitt suddenly shows up and, essentially, saves the day. Never mind that Pitt is also one of the film’s producers (an interesting contrast to Quentin Tarantino, who cast himself as an Australian slave trader in “Django Unchained.” But that’s a whole other essay). In this otherwise monumental and groundbreaking film, written and directed in the age of Stop and Frisk and Stand Your Ground, of Trayvon and Aiyanna and Marissa and Renisha, did we really need yet another white savior narrative?
We absolutely did not.
Some have pointed out that it’s simply being true to the historical record of Northup’s life. But the creative process begins with selection: which narratives we decide to privilege over others matters. Our myths reveal mountains about who we are as a nation. Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln” erased Frederick Douglass, reinforcing the tired notion that a singular white man, through the sheer force of his moral conviction, brought slavery to an end. In “Lincoln,” as in “12 Years,” this cliché not only hobbles the film’s cultural relevancy, it is a narrative failure as well. The story begins with Lincoln already having formed his opposition to slavery. Without the history of his relationship to Douglass, we have no idea how this president is willing to risk so much to pass the 13th amendment. There is no inciting incident, no motivating factor: we are left with just a determined man. And the story suffers for it.
I agree with dream hampton that we need more, not fewer, narratives about slavery. As Roxane Gay writes, so much of these films’ cultural commerce depends on the spectacle of black suffering. The few victories we’re shown come almost exclusively at the deus-ex-machina-like intervention of a white savior, a painful irony considering the historical context. “12 Years” was brilliant in part for the depth and scope it afforded particularly the female characters. The film leaves you with the haunted feeling of having glimpsed shreds of so many stories, most tragic, some triumphant. This makes the final twist of more of the same all the more painful.
What would a cinematic aesthetic of American history look like without the white savior? Perhaps the myth of white American exceptionalism would begin to crumble. Filmmakers would have to struggle to find new ways of getting people of color out of tight situations. Unpredictability might ensue; creativity would thrive. Maybe we’d finally see a Harriet Tubman bio-pic, instead of a cheap joke video at her expense.
David Ruggles, whose audacious opposition to slavery covered decades and included direct action, legal recourses, community organizing and journalism, has all but disappeared in the shadows of history. His house was the newly-escaped Frederick Douglass’ first stop upon arriving in New York City. A decade later, Ruggles saved Sojourner Truth’s life at a clinic in Northampton, Massachusetts. He spoke about the sexual subjugation of black women and solidarity across the faultlines of gender and race, topics we wrestle with to this day. These are historical crossroads and struggles we need to know about and celebrate.
The US culture machine has found the temerity to show our ugly history with brutal clarity. What resonates about slavery narratives is not just that mainstream white culture has worked so hard to avoid dealing with them, it’s that the mentality of subjugation persists in American culture. We’re still picking up the pieces, still moving from crisis to crisis. Unraveling today’s tragedies will always depend on a multilayered, intersectional understanding of our past. It’s time to let go of the same played-out savior game and unearth the lost heroic narratives of black freedom fighters.

Sadly, it’s a white Hollywood and I think movie making will be slow to change but maybe this post will provide some food for thought to move in that direction, and that’s why I wanted to spread his word.

Social Butterfly white american history is about disguising the atrocities they have committed. But that is true of all white history everywhere on the planet except in europe.
The only reason they show the cruelty of what whites have done in europe is because it is whites who are suffering.
I am a german born black man. My family history in Germany goes back 600 years unbroken. What hitler and the whites did to my people is still being played down or hidden.
White from American came over here and taught the white germans how to exterminate non white germans. They were the ones that gave the hitlers the idea and the ways and means of killing off entire races.
My people were forced to under “voluntary” sterilization. My family had a academic history. Along with the jews we were the ones teaching the dumb as shit whites here on the college level.
The history of heinous vile deeds by american whites have barely been scratched and will never be until the demographics change AND those leaders of that demographic grab back some of the wealth of the 1%.
It may take a wholesale slaughter to do it because I can see that the strategy of the whites in your country is to control all the money and assets in your country before the demographics change.
They wish to do what they have done in many South American countries, have absolute control over the wealth. That is why they are so afraid of american blacks. They know that is the one race on the planet that is not hindered by the thought of killing them as they have killed others, without a hesitation.

Social Butterfly, I agree with you here in South Africa we suffer from the same syndrome. I noticed in the Huff Post when LeTaO was taking them to task for making such a big thing about the white warden who befriended Nelson Mandela.
They lashed out at him for his telling him saying it was just another story about whites who looked the other way as long as there was no real pressure from the majority that was being subjugated.
It seems that extended exchange from the “super” posters and him prompted a change from Huff post so that now one cannot post unless they do it thorough faceBook so that one can discover just who the posters really are.
I noticed that LeTaO refused to join faceBook so he has been effectively kicked off Huff post. I dropped my participation in the dialogue in protest and canceled receiving news email from Huff.
Whites around the globe participate in keeping the narrative a big lie about their contribution to race relations and their contributions scientifically to the planet.

Social Butterfly, here in South Africa we are tired of the chronicles that tell of the savior acts of the white south african. How did they become white south africans? They came to our country and forced themselves upon us. Cruelly subjugated us for more than 100 years and particularly brutal the last 50 of their apartheid and now they wish to be treated equally with us.
It is true that Only american blacks seem to have the heart and fortitude to do what is necessary to rid us of this evil. If it were up to me I would have forced everyone of them to leave as Castro did in Cuba.
That is why he is still be ostracized today for having the fearlessness to kick out the white oppressors to a man.

Social Butterfly, excellent topic. This is the issue that should be discussed in my country. I am a South African. We were forced to accept the whites to be continued in our country with control over their ill gotten wealth.
Your american white presidents said they would do to us what they did to Cuba if we did not protect the lives and assets of our white “brethern.” I, like many others, was for at least kicking them out and repossessing the wealth they had stolen from us.
Why should we leave the Gold and other minerals in our country in the hands of whites who gained that control by forcing us to work in our mines for their profit.
The injustice is still going on because of the pressure of the world whites to keep it so. But their day is coming. I should live to see it, God willing.

Barika#10, I think Huffington Post came up with that requirement to find out who LeTa0 was because if his constant insistence that without the existence of Communism their would have been no civil rights because white americans were not about to share equality with any OTW.
He proved with penetrating logic that if not for the fact that the Russians were telling the OTW nations that all they had to do was to look at how the hypocritical americans were treating their on people of color to discover how they would treat them, the white americans in government who not have given up any rights to their OTWs.
His pointing out that the fact that this coincided with the technology of television and the Russians could show the brutality the Americans rained down upon a non white race that dared to ask for equality with them was the catalyst that forced white americans to stop their plan to beat the blacks into submission.

Social Butterfly, most of us in South African still alive remember the 60″s vividly. We took our inspiration from the news we got about the successes of the black american fighting for liberty. We rose up but were beaten and murdered into submission.
Today we learn that it was white americans that came to our country and helped teach our white suppressors how to brutally put down an insurrection.
We had no counterbalance by from the russians that would have isolated South Africa for beating and murdering us. I lost most of my friends and associates to the systematic hunting and murdering the leaders of the 60′s insurrection. I pray for revenge.

This is a wonderful topic, Social Butterfly. I agreed with LeTaO when I read his posts concerning the fact that if not for the Russian threatening to isolate the US in the Arab world because of the way they were beating and murdering their own black citizens they would not have stopped.
Yet they are busy portraying their civil rights period as some benevolent act of good white men. The US was afraid that countries like mine did, Egypt would have joined with the Russians and they would have had no access to the oil in Northern Africa.

Social Butterfly, I am british and I can tell you that without the pressure of the Russians gaining allies during the heyday of communism, there would have been no acquiescence to black demands for equality.
British historical journals are full of white leaders from America assuring our leaders that they had the uprising firmly in hand and that things would return to normal as soon as they put the “N” down.
But as the blacks refused to quit. The Russians got busy showing the rest of the world via television and other news outlets exactly how white america treats people of color. The fallout among other white nations in Europe was being felt.
The UK, Germany, France, and Spain was being threatened with losing their contracts with arab nations for oil contracts and other countries with black subjugates were beginning to copy the american blacks.
Pressure was put upon the US to quickly solve their racial issue. So they caved and sought to solve the problem by giving some equality to their blacks. They never intended it to go as far as it has.

Racist whites in the US fear american black males above all other OTWs. They know that black males have contempt for being subjugated by a weak species.
We in Africa look across the sea and see what seed has been sown by the white slavers coming to out continent and stealing the smartest and strongest among us. As their bible tells them when you sow evil you reap the whirlwind.
The payback for ;200 plus years of slavery by white americans the American black male shall be the tornado of that consequence.

Africa has only just begun to recover from the removal of our best and brightest by white slavers. The added indignation of subjugation at the hands of european whites for another 100 years didn’t help.
But my continent will survive even the attempts to thin us out with the white made scourge AIDS. We will sweep into Northern Africa and take back the lands that whites are helping the Arabs and Chinese to steal from my black brothers.
The ink of our struggle is not yet dry.

I agree with you Social Butterfly. This is a subject that needs discussion. I am a black jew. We have been up against another white spawned evil. That is the one where white come to Israel and tell the light jew that he is white and therefore should limit the liberty of his black jew brother.
But Israel sees through the american bigot and refuses to accept what God has deemed evil. Yet, they continue to try to divide and conquer my countrymen.

Social Butterfly, thank you for this topic. It has opened a type of discussion that is much needed, white propaganda done to spread the concept that white is better.
Unfortunately, it has taken hold in my country so pervasively that light Indians refuse to marry darker ones unless they are wealthy. My beloved’s parents have refused to allow her to marry me even though I make a very good living because of the fear that our children will be too dark to marry into the social level her family wishes to maintain.
This is the way of India. It is a strict color code. Begun by the british by rewarding the light indian and strictly regulating the darker ones to menial tasks.
Now my country strives to be as white as they can. It is seem as beauty itself. I can identify with the black struggle in America.

Thank you everyone who responded to my posting and shared your truth. My heart breaks hearing the stories of how you all have been systematically subjected to cruelty and domination by whites. But these are stories that must be told, however hard they are to hear. I think that in sharing these atrocities, talking about them, and making them real for the unbelievers and racists, it may be a way to help them come around to see the truth.
I must too thank Michelle for creating a blog that allows the truth to be heard.
