Ah..It’s Friday. I am so excited the weekend is here.
I want to share something with you. I have come across a few great earth friendly products lately…well at least they seem pretty cool. And I decided to try my darnedest to get the word out to my readers. Any attempt to make this world a better place. And no I’m not connected to any of them in any way. (wish I was :) But what better way to get the word out but to blog about it?
So…I’m sure many of you were as upset as I was over the toxic soup that I wrote about a few days ago. I try to only use products that use recyclable plastics but that really doesn’t cut out the plastic in our lives.
Here’s one new solution that does. This company whose product is usually only found in plastic containers decided to lay off the bottle completely, and guess what they sell? Shampoo.
Wha’at? How does one sell shampoo without a bottle? The shampoo is called Lush (I just love that word…lush greenery, lush ripe peach…etc.), and it comes in a bar that looks like soap but is equivalent to three 8-oz of shampoo bottles. Depending how much you wash your hair this little ‘ol bar will last you about 6 months, and is not much more than what you pay for your shampoo now…less than 10 bucks.
By using LUSH, not only will you prevent plastic waste, but you will avoid harmful chemicals. Lush contains none of those sodium lauryl and laureth sulfates. Good for the environment; good for you. And for you vegans out there – they even have a bar or two for you. I like it already and I haven’t even tried it (yet). You just wet the bar and run it across your hair a few times and lather up. Simple yes?
There are quite a few ‘flavors’ but these two sound pretty tempting: Karma Komba smells like patchouli (ah…love that scent – high school memories once again :) and citrus, and claims to put the bounce back into your hair. Gentil Lentil contains legumes (no surprise with a name like that), and claims to be a great detangler.
The company also says that you can use the bar to wash your face and body and even your clothes while you’re away on vacation. (ohh Dr. Bronner, you have some competition). I’m pretty picky about what I put on this face and bod but hey, I’ll try it on my hair. All in the goal of preserving this planet. :)

Michelle I like that Lush idea. I will give it a try. I am a big fan so if you say it is good, I am anxious to try it.
So what do you use on your face? I am 47. I could use a good face cream and wash.

I was watching CNN’s account of Senator Sessions losing his attempted appointment to the federal bench. He was accused of being a racist because he called black attorneys in his court boys and white lawyers who represented civil rights cases traitors to their race.
Ted Kennedy and Joe Biden were two of the Senators that voted to prevent him form being seated on the federal bench. Of course whites have no problem electing those types to represent the people as a whole since they are not threats to whites.
The result is that Sessions has been repeatedly elected to the Senate. So he calls it irony that he is now head of the committee for his party that oversees those appointments. It is not Irony that we are experiencing. It is just another example of whites being able to look past a person being racist to OTWs if they see something in him that will benefit them.
Hell, it may be he was continually elected to the senate because of his open bigotry. It is no secret about the racism of that section of the country. Because of their insensitivity towards the feelings and safety of the OTWs the bigot is representing in the senate Sessions is there today to practice it towards justice Sotomayor.

Mischa, this is just bizarro, I just found LUSH on the Third St Promenade in Santa Monica this past weekend, we had a ball in that store trying all the cool products! Normally, overly scented stores and I do not get along and I have to leave, this one is an all natural variety, excellent : )

Other than the soap, how’s everthing?
I have notice quite a bit of bigotry raising it’s ugly head lately.
Partly due to Obama’s choice of a Supreme Court nominee. I personally think he made a great choice. And get this “Robert”, I am a WHITE BOY, and there are many more like me who support equality. You seem to think that we are all the same, and against you which displays the very racsism you so despise. It is an us thing, not an us and/or them deal.

Oh contraire my man Al. I don’t think all white men are racists. That would mean I thought my father was a racists. I owe my strength to that fantastic man. He gives me drive to continue to stand up for those around me who can not do it for themselves.
You and I may know that we are all the same. But the likes of senator sessions doesn’t believe it. Or would think a man in the powerful position to determine the faith of individuals through the immigration policies would say enough of the histrionics when he witnessed the tears of OTWs having their relatives deported.
Yes, we are all HUMAN. But unless we are treated as less than human by those who consider us mud people.

HOME MONITORING
A basic form of this system — the personal emergency response system (PERS) — has been around for years. With a PERS, a person wears a device (panic button) that sends out a call for help if needed. The problem is that many who have such a device don’t wear it or aren’t alert enough to hit the button if they fall or become ill.
High-tech home-monitoring systems (which still offer the panic-button feature) require no input from the person being cared for. They work through wireless motion sensors placed throughout the senior’s home and collect information on activities of daily living, such as getting out of bed, using the bathroom, eating and taking medicine. The system establishes the person’s routines so it can detect when there are changes to those patterns, such as a person failing to leave the bedroom in the morning. Alerts are sent to the caregiver via phone or E-mail. Family members also can check on their loved one’s patterns via the system’s secure Web site. Companies that offer this product…
QuietCare. A leader in the industry and the first to offer this service. Cost: Less than $399, plus about $150 a month for monitoring (varies by area). 866-593-4314, quietcare.com.
Healthsense. Offers a more comprehensive monitoring system that allows you to keep an eye on just about everything. With a variety of sensors, you can monitor such things as sleep patterns, shower and toilet use, whether the stove has been left on, when your loved one has left the house, etc. Cost: $1,100, plus $70 to $80 for monthly monitoring, though prices vary depending on tier of service and size of the home. 800-576-1779, healthsense.com.
GrandCare. In addition to monitoring, this system has a small computer that connects to the Internet and plugs into the TV, allowing family members to share pictures, E-mails, appointment reminders and more on a dedicated TV channel. MEDICATION MANAGEMENT
Remembering to take medications is a challenge for many seniors. The MD.2 system can help organize medications and dispense them on schedule. It also provides multiple reminders to take the medication. Caregivers are alerted if necessary. The system can be monitored via the Internet. Cost: $899, plus a $24.95 monthly monitoring fee, or it can be rented for less than $100 per month, but cost will vary by distributor. 877-563-2632, imd2.com.

VIDEO CHAT SERVICE

All-in-one videophones (from such companies as packet8.com… vieson.con… and Ojoservices.com) also can provide this service. Cost: About $400 per phone, plus $15 to $20 per month.
