SP* for VP – Wha’at?! I know, Sarah Palin*, I had never heard of her either.

Again, Let me say that I am not saying that all muslim men are violent brutes. Did I ever say that? I’ve worked with a few muslim men in Asia, and not one showed me any signs of disrespect, and I was their superior at the work place. They were perfect gentlemen, and a delight to work with. And why get on my case? It was the muslim women who wrote in screaming about their men, and hatred for them, not me. And dear Cruel Secretary….before you like Fatemeh start putting words into my mouth, I am well aware of the atrocities that many men of many color, and lack thereof, around the world commit. I am not sitting here eating bon bons with my thumb up my ass reading Cosmo. You obviously haven’t read any past posts where white men were getting their share. Women abuse is rampant and I will say it one last time….It is not just reserved for the muslim men in this world. (Hell, for all I know, Fatemeh could actually be a muslim man posing as a woman.) Men in all cultures have been abusive. I am not singling out any one group nor am I lumping them all together and calling all men abusive. Are we on the same page now?
Hmm…You know, I have to stop.
I am feeling defensive and I feel my ego rising, and I don’t want to go there. We could keep bantering back and forth with these attacking attitudes, point by point, and I still feel we would get no where, so I am going to graciously bow out or at least take a breath and leave my egoic emotions to rest.
Okay, as I read back on my posts, perhaps in my excited passion to help, my emotions interfered and I did not choose my words wisely, articulating myself clearly. I feel I am not being heard, and my thoughts are, you are feeling the same way too. Perhaps in wanting those in need to know that I have heard them, I neglected to give equal time to those that just wanted to be heard too. It seems I have given the impression that I have chosen sides when I have just given more time to those that asked for support. No opinions were discounted intentionally, I just chose to give more focus to those that supported what I was bringing to light. I am not attached to any side of the story, and if I could ‘decide’ the story, the one I’m shedding light on wouldn’t be it.
My feeling is that the information, the side that no one wants to talk about, the side that is too painful to discuss, the side that people would rather not hear, needs more light shed on it for it to sink into people’s lives and have more of an impact than page 10, in the bottom left-hand corner of some newspaper. There is of course the other side, there always is, but that was not my focus. Perhaps, it deserves some equal time too.
Racist? No. But, perhaps if you had just tuned into my blog you might come to that conclusion since I have been riding pretty hard on the muslim man, but if you have been reading my blog for over the past year you would see that the majority of the brunt has been given to the white man in defense of the OTW’s (other than whites). And not just in the abuse of women but abuse on a global level in regards to not only women, but people, animals, the environment.
Sexist meme? – Not sure what that is but I rescue dogs not women. Rescuing animals have always been my passion. It has never been my passion to rescue or to save women. I have a large readership. My goal to help women has been to bring these subjects to light on my blog and to discuss ideas, and collaborate. As I mentioned I don’t know what to do but bringing it to focus is the first step.
I guess what disappoints me the most over the past few days is that egos have gotten in the way, judgement has raised it’s ugly head, and good intentions have been overlooked. And because of this we women are not connecting. Maybe this discussion is too sensitive to have over the internet where misconceptions can easily be made. There is no intonation to be heard, there is no facial expression to be seen, and this topic is just too close to heart, too personal, and we have not gotten up close and personal enough.
It is obvious that where we stand now, we are women of different cultures and backgrounds that are challenged when we try come together via a common purpose, where clear communication and understanding is paramount, and realizing where support is needed or even desired. Although I may not know much about the everyday details and lives of many, what I do know is that women abuse is widespread…..and I will continue to learn, to write about it, and support women where support is wanted. And lastly, that we have a long way to go.
So, I am going to put my ego aside and really look at what all of you have written. I am humbled by this experience. I have learned much, and I am grateful. Mostly I have learned that I need to learn more. Thanks for participating and being a voice for many.
So…onto my topic for the day:
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSBgH_wf5bc&hl=en&fs=1]
Yes, it is still the focus of women but actually one in particular: Sarah Palin, McCain’s pick for VP. I knew nothing of this woman and when I researched her, I discovered that she has been the Governor of Alaska for only two years. And before that, she served two terms on the city council of Wasilla, Alaska, (population 6,700) and two terms as mayor/manager of Wasilla, Alaska. And prior to that, a political reformer and hockey mom. Hmmm….
How can McCain point out over and over again of Obama’s lack of experience in foreign policy and defense matter, and then pick Palin as his VP with even less experience? Ah…actually none. Obama’s ‘lack of experience’ has been the republicans strongest argument against him. Could they be shooting themselves in the foot and blowing their chance at the presidency? I certainly hope so.
Nothing personal against this woman, but speaking strictly business, a month ago in an interview, Palin dissed the VP position stating that it didn’t seem ‘produuctive’ and that she didn’t even know what the VP did. Well hopefully she won’t get the chance to learn on our dime and time. Palin is a conservative, pro-lifer, who would be right up there supporting McCain in overturning Roe v Wade - that in itself is scary enough and my reason for not wanting her in. She also believes that marriage should only be between a man and a woman. So much for Gay rights. I would expect that coming from a conservative. Well, it’s obvious she’s the ticket they feel they need in order to score those white conservative women votes.
But does she really think she can handle the job? Do you? Like I said, Hopefully we won’t have to find out. Can you imagine if McCain became President and died and Palin became the President running our country? We can be rest assured if McCain gets voted in, an assassination would never take place. I know it’s a stretch, but could that be part of his motivation of choosing her besides the obvious above? I wouldn’t put anything past the Republicans. Oh, but that’s right, the ones who rip the people off daily, and strip us of our rights and privileges don’t get assassinated or even put in jail for their crimes. (yet.) No, the JFK’s and the MLK’s, the ones who fight for the people, they are the ones who get assassinated.
Where Obama is fighting for the people, stating, ‘it is not about him, it’s about the American people’, McCain shows us blatantly, ‘it’s all about him’….and his cronies of course.
Thoughts? Blog me.

Are You Headed for a Stroke?
James F. Toole, MD
Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center
What if people received warnings about coming strokes a week or even a month before they occurred? You might assume that such an alert would cause people to seek medical attention so that the patient and his/her doctor could take measures to prevent a stroke. Usually, that’s not the case.
Each year, an estimated quarter-million Americans receive a warning in the form of a transient ischemic attack (TIA), commonly known as a “ministroke.” Unfortunately, the majority of patients who experience a TIA don’t recognize its importance — and fail to get prompt medical care that likely could prevent a full-blown stroke. About 11% to 20% of patients who experience a TIA go on to suffer a stroke within three months.
Good news: Patients who experience a TIA and then take preventive steps can greatly reduce their risk for further problems.
Important: A TIA is an emergency, and everyone should know the symptoms. If you experience one of the symptoms described below for at least five minutes, see a doctor the same day — go to the emergency room, if necessary.
KNOW THE SYMPTOMS
Like the majority of strokes, a TIA is usually caused by a blood clot and/or material that breaks free from artery walls and temporarily blocks blood flow to parts of the brain. The blockage of the artery lasts long enough to stop blood flow and cause stroke-like symptoms, but not long enough to kill brain cells.
What to watch for…
A dizzy spell that occurs for no obvious reason, such as standing too quickly… or dizziness from a middle ear disease.
Weakness and/or numbness on one side of the body — usually in the face or an arm or leg.
The sensation that there’s something in the eye, causing blurriness, double vision or even temporary blindness.
Difficulty speaking or difficulty understanding what others are saying.
People should not panic if they experience one or more of these symptoms — they aren’t always caused by a TIA. Dizzy spells can be caused by something as simple as a plug of earwax. The only way to know for sure whether you’ve suffered a TIA is to see a doctor.
DIAGNOSING TIA
Researchers are in the process of identifying brain enzymes that are released during a TIA. Blood tests that diagnose TIAs based on the presence of these enzymes are being developed.
In the meantime, doctors diagnose most TIAs by taking a medical history of the event — what the patient felt, how long the symptoms lasted and whether the person has stroke risk factors, such as high blood pressure, family history, diabetes or smoking.
Physical findings: Atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) is the underlying cause of most TIAs (and the majority of strokes). Patients who have atherosclerosis elsewhere in the body, such as in the arteries leading to the legs, kidneys, heart, etc., are very likely to also have damaged carotid arteries — blood vessels in the neck that carry blood to the brain.
In some cases, a doctor can detect problems in the carotid artery by listening carefully with a stethoscope. There are characteristic sounds (bruits) that indicate atherosclerosis.
In other cases, additional tests are required…
Carotid ultrasonography uses sound waves to detect blood-vessel narrowing and/or clots in the carotid arteries. This is a good screening test for people with stroke risk factors or a family history of strokes or TIAs.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) also measures blockages in the carotid arteries.
If atherosclerotic blockages of 50% to 70% are found from either test, further evaluation and treatment is necessary.
TREATMENT APPROACHES
Patients with carotid artery blockages of 50% or more are usually advised to take strict steps, including the use of medication, to reduce risk. If their disease progresses to 70% blockage, surgery is typically recommended…
Carotid endarterectomy is an in-patient procedure in which an incision is made to expose the carotid artery, and plaques are removed from the artery. When performed by a skilled surgeon, the risk for stroke or death is less than 1%, and the patient recovers within a week.
Stenting is an inpatient procedure in which an expandable metal net is threaded into the carotid artery. The net presses against the artery walls… dilates the opening for better circulation… and helps prevent the artery from “shedding” more clots.
Stenting, however, has not been performed long enough for its long-term effectiveness and durability to be known. One possible risk is that a dislodged blood clot could get carried in the bloodstream to the brain.
TIA patients who don’t require surgery are almost always treated with drugs to prevent blood from clotting. Main drug therapies…
Aspirin is most often used. Taking a regular aspirin (three times weekly) or baby aspirin (daily), depending on the patient, can reduce stroke risk by up to 20%.
Aspirin plus an anticlotting drug. Adding other active ingredients to aspirin can reduce stroke risk by an additional 3% to 5%. Example: Aspirin plus dipyridamole (Aggrenox).
Aspirin alternatives, such as clopidogrel (Plavix) and ticlopidine (Ticlid), can prevent excessively sticky platelets from clumping together and forming clots. These drugs are a good choice for patients who are allergic to aspirin or who have an ulcer or acid reflux disease, which can be aggravated by aspirin.
STROKE PREVENTION
Most stroke risk factors can be reduced with lifestyle modifications. Most important…
Not smoking.
Limiting dietary fat.
Eating fruits and vegetables.
Exercising regularly.
Patients who maintain healthy blood pressure readings (less than 120/80) and total cholesterol levels (less than 200)… avoid (or reverse) obesity… and control underlying diseases, such as diabetes, are far less likely to develop hardening of the arteries, thereby reducing their risk for TIAs and stroke.

She won a primary in a state with 650,000. She single handed over took
corruption in the State of Alaska. How much corruption takes place in a state
with that population? She was mayor of a town of 10,000. She is the most popular Governor in America, yet none of us in the continental states have heard of her. She has a BA in journalism, but no further education or experience. She is the mother of a down syndrome baby. After the age of 35 it is not uncommon, after 40 common. She is 44.
McCain met her once, maybe twice and she is going to be the VP of the United
States to govern over the US if he can’t (he is 72). He is definitely loosing it. THIS IS THE MOST IRRESPONSIBLE DECISION BY ANY CANDIDATE IN AMERICAN HISTORY. MCCAIN NEEDS TO BE QUESTIONED AND REMOVED BY THE REPUBLICAN PARTY
BEFORE THE CONVENTION. THIS IS A JOKE THAT IS NOT FUNNY.
August 30th, 2008 at 8:03 am
I must agree with Anon. When I was listening to this yesterday on NPR I was nearly driving off the road with amazement that this was even taking place. The idea that this hockey mom (no offense to women, but this country needed a woman with some Washington experience not simply experience of being a woman) is ready to go Saudi Arabia or Iran or Darfur and Congo, and deal with the highly political needs of the world and this country and representing the most powerful country on the planet, if John McCain becomes John McCant due to death or sickness, this is a travesty. I am not Republican, but if I were I would be shamed and change my party. This is such a slap in the face to this country and what it means to the job of President or Vice President of the United States. I must say, though, that from political posturing, it is a fairly good move. But this shows a lack of regard for the respect of this country and the power of the position that this is to be filled. A major slap of disrespect to the people of this country due to that.
The fact that the Repugnicants are using her down syndrome child as a point of character for her is another sorry case for this election process. With so many other parents throughout the US that have a Down child, does this make them capable of being in the VP position? They are soccer moms, too!? They have written checks at the grocery store and balance their family checkbook, too! Shit, even McCain doesn’t do that and he’s going for president.
Her being governor for only 18 months of the state of Alaska, and she is already being investigated for misuse of her power makes her a perfect Republican candidate. She is right in there with her party for sure on that!
At least, it was four years ago, when the Democrats introduced Obama to the world stage at the previous convention to which he gave a speech that blew everyone away. Then he went on to be a part of global politics in the Senate. What he stated then, and what he stated the other night exemplifies his passion for this country and the people. This is simply an act that represents this party’s passion for themselves.
Her background in politics is so short it is a joke to this system for the assumption that she is ready for this position. I’m sure that behind closed doors there was a payoff of some sort to her family that she do this, step into the background and shut the hell up. For the Repugnicants to put a woman in power and for her to assume that she will have any power from this party is a joke. Anonz has given us quite the background on these issue previously.
I am blown away by this action. If the public makes this one happen there is literally no more help for this country. The lemmings of thoughtless or no common sensed voting practices of this country will certainly put this country to shame throughout the world to a point to which it will take generations to repair.
What Obama said, that this isn’t about him and it was about the public, should be the mantra at this point forward. What the Repugnicants are doing here is what Bush has done for 8 years is slap everyone in the face while laughing at us as he and the party cronies and elitists have their way with this country and world at everyone else’s expense while the public smiles, bends over, and takes the repugnicants “desired to be” big one up the ass!
This is probably the saddest moment in our country’s history!

Unbelievable. She may be an unknown to most but just last year I wrote her to beg her to reconsider her alarmingly brutal laws regarding wolf hunting from aircraft in Alaska and the bounty they pay for you bringing in a wolf LEG.
This woman is in total step with Bush’s environmental policies. It’s a sickeningly perfect choice.

A take on how men handle women who change…interesting – ZL
August 30th, 2008 at 10:41 am
As far as ZL stating that “how could he not?…” in reference to Obama, I was saying this about Bush…TWICE!! I cannot think how our voting populace could have voted that shit in, and it happened twice!! Now, with the unions, the NRA, the anti-abortion and right wingers… as Anon stated it was the perfect choice. But, although this choice may be a perfect political maneuver, it is total disrespect of the position, the public and the country, as well as, the world.
The world wants Obama, as he has shown them his willingness and desire to work with the rest of the world on the upcoming major issues. This was also exemplary when he showed up to hundreds of thousands of Europeans, when he spoke in Germany. The world wants Obama, which will help global policy needs. Our global view is crap and has been for 8 years, (excepting a few months after 9-11 until Bush stopped going after Bin Laden and went instead to invade a sovereign country). I don’t even know if this woman has travelled outside of the country before…
Perhaps she infiltrated Russian airspace once while trying to hunt for Moose and Wolf in the Alaskan outback…
I am simply blown away…
I cannot think, whatsoever, that the repugnicants can take this now! I cannot wait for the VP debates!! I cannot wait for the Presidential debates. Obama, who thinks very fast on his feet and McCain who no longer thinks…That will be good!!!
