What to do with the $700 Billion. Now is the time to speak your mind.

Posted by michellemoquin on September 23rd, 2008

You all know my opinion by now that I think we shouldn’t bailout Wall Street.  Why let the liars and the corrupters get away with it?  What will prevent them from doing it again and again if new laws aren’t implemented and they know a bailout is on the way?  No risk on their part. AND they want the money with no strings attached! I say let the wall fall….and they’ll all come tumbling down.

What do you think?  Want to express it?  Go to the Congress website and vote.  Do you support the $700 billion mortgage bailout?  Or do you oppose it? Of course I am hoping that my readers will ban together and join me so that maybe, just maybe we’ll have an impact and turn this thing around. Show the Wall Streeters that we have a powerful voice.  It’s really up to you now. Oh…just FYI: If they do get bailed out, WHOEVER becomes president will have that much less in the budget for all of those promises being made. It will not only effect any plans that the elected president has in store for the next 4 years, but it will surely impact us in our pockets.

AH commented on this yesterday, and he said it so well that again I think it is worth a re-post:

This is just a ploy by the republicans to scare the democrats into giving them absolute control of the $700 billion dollar bail out. They will promptly divide it up between the Anonzes of the world and continue ripping the small investor and the American people off.

THERE IS NO CRISIS!

There is a drive to make the American people believe the economy is in dire jeopardy to get them to force the democrats to give the bush administration total control over how the $700 billion will be used. The democrats want to include provisions to give relief to people about to lose their mortgages and to insure that the owners and leaders of these defaulting companies don’t benefit from this bail out.

The republicans need to force the democrats to give them the money without those provisions. They will kill even more companies to force the issue. These are the same companies that fired tens of thousands of American workers and gave their jobs to foreign companies.

THERE IS NO FINANCIAL OR ECONOMIC CRISIS. This is a ploy to burden any new administration with a debt so huge that it will not be able to launch any social health programs or tax relief for the middle class.

The bush administration intends to dole out every penny of the $700 billion before the new administration takes office. They also intend to pile up as much new debt as it can on the incoming new administration as it can. Wait until it becomes knowledge the military commitments the bush administration intends to leave the new administration with.

AH

Oh and one more thing just in case you aren’t still convinced, I decided to post Anonz’s comment from last night:

On the bail out, the CEOs of these companies will be getting billions of the $700 plus billion bail out in the from [sic] – form of bonuses. The companies are wrangling to get the taxpayer to pay for their gambling while paying their heads huge bonuses for losing the companies money and the jobs of its employees.

Anonz

Okay, so if nothing else…do you want all of these companies getting billions in bonuses while you’re struggling to make your mortgage payment?  Basically they are getting rewarded and laughing all the way to the bank. I don’t think so.

Don’t know what to say in your letter? I’m enclosing a letter that Doug wrote yesterday. Feel free to use it as is or change as you see fit:

I oppose the proposed bailout plan because it is not only the taxpayers, and especially not all taxpayers, who made the errors in judgement that have made the situation as precarious as it is.  The banks should not have lent money or coerced borrowers to accept loans that they were not able to afford.  It is the obligation and business of the banks to know what they are getting into, just as it is the obligation of the borrower.  It is the lack of oversight and regulation that allowed these fraudulent lending practices to take place.

The banks are able to reduce their bad debts through write downs and move forward with their businesses.  It is the borrowers that will take the brunt of these lending illegalities by being held responsible for actions that many of them were coerced into accepting under the fraudulent and unregulated guidance of the financial institution.  The financial institutions must be held accountable for their product manipulations and failed and fraudulent loan practices.

Readers:  They suggest to keep it short; I’ll add keep it simple too.  The point is to participate and make your voice heard. If you have a sample letter to share, please post it. I would love to read. Thanks!

Hi ZL:  I forgot to mention yesterday…yes, go ahead and re-post my article for your blog if you want. And in answer to your question of what to say to those hard core repubs stuck on the talking point: ‘well congress and the house have a democratic majority who stand in the way of any good repub regulating process at every turn, in fact Dems always get in the way of anything/all the good things Repubs try to do’. What a lame bitch. Tell ‘em to shut the fuck up and start being accountable for their actions – the democrats have only been in control for two years – All this shit happened way before two years ago. It was the repubs who fired most of the regulators, and even the laws that were there they didn’t even enforce. Remember nothing polices itself. I could go on about this but I would be writing another entire article :) Maybe someone else can chime in on this.

Hi Doug:  I liked your article about ‘truth’.  And what is it with wikipidia?  I don’t get why people use it as a source when it is really only an opinion; one that anyone can change. It just confirms that the definition of truth is not necessarily based on facts anymore.  As I’ve been saying, someone’s ‘truth’ in this election is going to be based on the last thing they hear before they hit the polls. Yes americans can be that stupid. Sad but true.

Have a great day everyone.

Gratefully your blog host,

I am happy to see that the Congress have thus far held their ground and are not backing this attempt to stranglehold the House and Senate with this open ended, blank check. Wow, can Bush really think he can do it again?!

Perhaps when he gets in front of a jury for his murder trial, in due time, the judge will give a blank time line for him to sit in solitary on death row. Only being visited by the next door 300lb cell mate…Perhaps a little water boarding during the murder trial to get to the “truth”. Maybe we could hold him a while without as much as a phone call and allow him his trial without a lawyer…

I urge all to write in and voice your opinion on this financial bailout issue immediately! Currently this bailout will cost each person in the United States $2500 dollars. The current debt has reached a balance to each man, woman and child near $10,000. What did I get for that?

Wake up, and voice your dissent!!

Yes, Mischa, exactly, shut the f**k up…turns out I am surrounded by Repug ‘boyz’ (herd followers really) who think it’s all good, I think they secretly think that someday their 200K annual salaries will someday make them eligible for a 20+ million $ bonus and would like it un-regulated, thank you very much. Keep dreamin’ boyz, keep dreamin’ – I love Lisa’s new hubby BUT he is a Repug (with a sense of humor) she pretended not to know his politics, I told her DO NOT bullshit a bullshitter like me, I know this drill too well, babe, hahaha…

Anonz, hey babe, your rap on the Clinton’s is blowing my prediction of Biden bowing out last minute while Hill secures the vote on the O/C ticket and winning in a landslide victory. You’re not buying my theory? if what you say is true then the fact that I’ve always thought the Clinton’s were a Bonnie and Clyde power couple is – oh no – true. Damn, sometimes I hate it when I’m right : ) I’d still be willing to have her as veep though, if only to get that way over 50% win for Obama. Ciao, Zen

I have enough blog fodder for a week which is so great, in addition to just being busy (and a little uninspired after all this depressing news), and I have to do jury duty tomorrow, have to look up that good line anonz gave me back in June when I postponed it, I forgot it but I really need to get out of it this time…again…

What the f**K have you done? Did you enjoy getting off on this blog? Well the feds are on to you. They have launched an unprecedented investigation against the players in the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac rip off. If McCain doesn’t get elected your name will be a household name on this blog. So will your prison number!

You think you won’t be up for jail time. If I go to jail, you go to jail. You are just as guilty as any in this. What you have at stake is what we have at stake. Get a grip man. If the feds don’t get you, you know who will. Frankly, if I were you, I would prefer the feds.

When I was told that you were spending your time on a UFO blog, I couldn’t believe it. It you can’t be reached anywhere, and you comment on a UFO blog. I understand your fascination with UFOs, but this is ridiculous. Get back on board, or get out of town, any town in this hemisphere. Your luck will run out.

    My Lady Lilly

It might be wise to examine Bill Clinton’s character in more detail before you put any bets on him. This is a man who risked the balance of power between the republicans and the democrats for a his own sexual enjoyment.

He knew how desperate we were to get back into the white house and that we felt that unless we could ruin his character image we had no chance. This was true because he not only balanced the budget, but he was leaving office with a huge surplus.

So what did he do. He launched a new affair and did everything but advertise it on television. This was a man so self consumed with his own desires that he didn’t care that he was risking his only child and his wife’s self-respect to satisfy his carnal cravings

There is something a little deeper probing of Bill Clinton will reveal. He doesn’t want Hilary to be President. He is content to be the only democrat to have won two consecutive terms. He doesn’t want to be succeeded by a black man or his wife as the head of the democratic party. He sabotaged Hilary every opportunity he got.

Clinton is a man who is totally about himself. Hilary knows what she has as, if she was not so smart she would have dumped him long ago. She has ambitions and she knows that for now she needs him. How can you blame her, she has suffered enough embarrassment by the behavior of this man. Those two women can barely hold their heads up. Even today they have to be alert to his propensities so as to avoid any new embarrassments.

I respect their courage and will to continue in spite of the snickering behind their backs and the disdain some women have for their independence. But Bill wants to be the only big name in that family.

Men ridicule Hilary for the same characteristics that they admire in a man. She is every bit as capable as any man in the Senate and she is a lot more honest than most of them.

    Anonz

  7. Anonz Says:

    Lady Lilly

If Hilary had been picked as the second on Obama’s ticket, McCain would have picked a man for his running mate and they would be ahead by double digits by now.

The same white women who claim they are supporting McCain because they wanted Hilary to be on the ticket would be saying they are supporting McCain because his total ticket is the most experienced.

They are supporting McCain because he is white. I was honest about my bigotry. They are not. Let me be honest about my opinion of white women. We heads of the republican party think less of the white women in out party than we think of the minorities.

I have changed my opinion of women because of the kind of women I have been exposed to because of my switch to the democratic party(for this election). I have been a male chauvinistic fool. Women like Hilary have shown me that gender is no impediment to the intellectual gymnastics needed to navigate the pool of sharks that feed on its human inhabitants.

    Tom

Ah my boy. Lest you think that I am avoiding you. Not to worry. This investigation was set up by us to assure our gullible public that we(crooks) will get out comeuppance.

How gullible are they? Notice how we have them insisting that unless we get our payoff of a 700 plus billion(actually closer to a trillion two hundred million) armageddon will set in on the financial markets.

Remember we are dealing with people who know absolutely nothing about how the financial markets really work. Even the best investigative reporters don’t know what questions to ask to get to the heart of our scam. That’s how we duped the fools out of billions in the first place. It is not that complicated: Sell a product that is over valued to people on credit who don’t know how to value what they are buying and then sell all or parts of that credit purchase to people who can’t value what they are buying.

This can only work if you sell the idea to a bunch of fools who are gullible or greedy enough to believe and promote the concept that a bunch of millionaires running a monopoly called the markets will police themselves.

Now here’s the proof of our genius Tom.

We set up a fail safe that if ever we fucked up the markets. That fail safe involves a federal investigation that would be launched to appear to indite us and send our crooked asses to jail. Here’s what it will do.

It will investigate and send some of our enemies to jail. But over all it will clear us of any wrong doing. We will be able to use that federal exoneration in any civil suit brought against us by disgruntled poor losers as proof of our innocence of any wrong doing. Brilliant if i do say so myself. I shouldn’t have to say this to you. How much money have I made you and your gutless buddies.

Don’t jump ship just yet. Those that have had their hands out, still do. They just don’t want to get caught by their constituents. We will show them how to make this work. There’s billions possibly trillions to be made here.

We’ve got the 9/11 fear going here. If we can keep from giving a big piece to those fools who we sold the inflated mortgages to, we stand to make a decent windfall as planned.

  9. Health Info Says:

ZANDER ON OVERCOMING EXCUSES THAT HOLD YOU BACK

A woman I once knew constantly peppered me with questions about how I achieved what she called my “enviable” health. No sooner would I respond with something about, say, exercising regularly then she would reply, “Oh, I couldn’t possibly do that — my day is too long because of my commute.” It didn’t matter what tidbit of information I offered her, she always had a reason why she couldn’t follow suit. She capped this behavior with frequent comments to mutual acquaintances about how “lucky” I was to be so healthy.
According to life coach Lauren Zander, this woman’s behavior is a classic example of how people rationalize their lives to themselves when what they’re really doing is lying. Lies are generally considered an intentional statement meant to deceive, whereas the lies like this woman’s exercise excuses are coming from a much deeper place. Lauren says that not only do these lies help people justify their behaviors or choices, but people are so naturally crafty that their excuses can actually make them think they’re being smart about the choices they make. For example, people will say they would like to exercise in the morning “but my metabolism is wrong for it,” or that “it’s healthy to drink red wine” so they have three to four glasses per day. Other common lies center on people’s perceived inability to manage time… schedules… money… or get up early in the morning. Some people are convinced that no one ever helps them out, or that it would be crazy to leave their job even though they hate it, or that… you get the picture. Just listen to the people around you as they tell their stories and you will hear a bevy of excuses, a.k.a. lies, that people hold dear.
    AN INTERNAL PHILOSOPHY
Lauren explains that in order to buttress the belief that their lies are true, people gather evidence from that point of view… for example, my friend’s busy schedule or the latest news about a tight job market. Furthermore, the lies are firmly entrenched since most have gone on for a very long time, not unlike the little voice that reminds you to brush your teeth. Lauren explains that the reason for this mental blindness is that people can’t believe they would intentionally play a role in ongoing behavior that is destructive — why, it would be preposterous to think they would willingly be the source of their own pain. Consequently, they refuse to see that they have built an arsenal of excuses to protect themselves from seeing what is actually going on. In short, they hide behind their lies.
Stripping away the lies forces people to see that of course they can step up to the plate, take responsibility and make changes. These are pretty obvious scenarios — what’s so hard about leaving early enough to become a punctual person, asks Lauren, or not putting donuts in your mouth? But the fundamental truth behind all the lies, she says, is that most people don’t want to make changes. Once you acknowledge that you have a say-so in your behavior, you now have to admit that you are not using that power and are instead being a victim. “It is simply easier to have a pity party and believe that it is impossible for you to change than to actually make a change,” says Lauren.
    LIES IN RELATIONSHIPS
Not only do lies prevent people from creating better lives for themselves, they also intrude on relationships — often, again, based on the false presumption of doing something good. One way they do this is as part of a trade-off dynamic. Example: I won’t comment on your drinking if you don’t say anything about my extra 30 pounds. Obviously couples have a wide variety of lies they overlook in such a pattern as they work to preserve the peace, but the result is always the same… individuals don’t get true happiness or fulfillment in their lives. When you don’t call each other on behaviors that upset you, you don’t feel you can make a difference. Having the conversation that reveals the issues can be difficult, says Lauren, but it will make you feel so much better. You’ll be dealing honestly with each other and taking power to make changes that will benefit both of you and your relationship.
    OVERCOMING THE LIES
Interestingly, the first step in overcoming lies and freeing yourself of their boundaries may be one of the hardest — seeing what your lies are. These beliefs can be so deep and entrenched for such a long time that they elude easy recognition. Try to listen to the words you use to explain your behavior ?– or lack of it — and some of your lies will surface. But there is an even more efficient way of revealing your lies, although it requires a certain amount of bravery, say Lauren. Her advice: Make a list of the places where you feel stuck in your life, and then look at why. Often, you will see the lies behind the “why” that result in behaviors that hold you back in some way. Then you can ask several people you trust and who know you well to identify your blind spots concerning your behaviors. As a guide, these are things you frequently complain about — be it things you can’t have, things you can’t do, or things as they relate to those you love — and they involve behaviors that are negative and hurt you. Key: They are also areas you have long believed are not under your control.
Even though you may not be able to see your lies, Lauren says they are generally obvious to others. Allowing your friends/family to point them out without getting mad at them for their honesty is often a more effective way of seeing where you’re holding yourself back. Once identified, getting rid of the lies most likely will involve action, a “to do” list of behaviors. Listen to your lies, laugh at them as you realize the silliness of some of your excuses, and learn from them — let them teach you where you need to make changes. You still may have a hard time changing. For my friend with a long commute to work, it will be a definite challenge to fit exercise into her day. However, making the changes will improve your life — and her life — and at the same time give back your power to create the life you want. Once you say no to the excuses that hold you back, you will be amazed at how good it feels.

  10. Health Info Says:

RAPID SPREAD OF HAND OSTEOARTHRITIS OVERSTATED

Since many people treat news reports as gospel, it’s good to remind ourselves that every single study isn’t necessarily conclusive. Negative ones can be especially discouraging if they’re personally relevant — as was the case recently with my cousin, who suffers from hand osteoarthritis (OA). Everyone with arthritis has to make certain lifestyle adjustments and accommodations, which my cousin has done. For example, she’s hired someone to help with the heavy digging in her garden, and often enlists her husband’s help in chopping vegetables so she won’t put too much strain on any single joint. She called me when she saw a news segment on research saying hand osteoarthritis is especially aggressive in middle-aged and early post-menopausal women. She’s in her early 50s and was worried. I told her I’d do some research of my own.
About one in five people over age 55 have hand OA, with varying amounts of disability. A lucky few suffer little pain or loss of motion, most experience moderate pain and functional loss, while a small percentage have so much pain and stiffness they give up daily activities like working at the computer or playing golf. The study my cousin asked about suggested that hand OA might be accompanied by especially rapid and significant increases in pain and functional limitations for younger women.
I called Randy W. Viola, MD, a specialist in disorders of the hand, wrist and elbow at the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado. His advice was reassuring. In his experience with patients, hand osteoarthritis typically progresses slowly, is rarely more aggressive than hip or knee arthritis, and can be controlled by many non-surgical treatment options, including medications, activity modification, splinting and injections. For severe cases that don’t respond to these measures, surgery can help.
    IT’S NOT SO BAD REALLY
Dr. Viola and I discussed this study, specifically. It involved 172 people with hand osteoarthritis and took place at Leiden University in the Netherlands. The participants’ mean age was 60.5 years and more than three quarters were women — correctly reflecting the fact that after age 50 osteoarthritis is more common in women than men. Following this population for just two years, researchers found statistically significant increases in pain and functional limitations. Imaging studies also revealed physical progression of hand osteoarthritis in 20% of participants.
Disagreeing with the overall findings, Dr. Viola speculates that these results were probably due to patient selection. He believes it would be a mistake to extrapolate the findings to the general population of people with hand OA, saying in his experience patients have only moderate pain and loss of range of motion. “The study is important in that it highlights the physical limitations and pain of these people,” he says. “However, the number of patients was relatively small and it is unclear how they were selected — limitations which make it difficult to accept the conclusions and generalize them to all patients with hand OA.” He also said that even when X-rays show significant evidence of hand OA, many people live normal lives with little pain or functional impairment.
    HANDS-ON TREATMENT STRATEGIES
As with many conditions, diagnosing hand osteoarthritis early makes it much easier to manage. An important first step is to avoid repetitive forceful motions that aggravate hand OA. For example, those with OA at the base of the thumb (one of the most common sites) can reduce pain noticeably by finding ways to minimize or avoid activities that require gripping and pinching — for instance, starting a car involves significant grip and pinch forces and is therefore often painful for people with OA at the base of the thumb. A better way for them is to hold the car key between the index and middle fingers. Similarly, those with OA may find it painful to open doors fitted with doorknobs. Changing these to door levers can make a big difference. When engaging in repetitive activities such as typing, texting or gripping, it’s a good idea to take frequent breaks.
There are other measures you can take that may also prove helpful. Ask your physician or physical therapist about gentle range-of-motion exercises to help maintain strength and flexibility of the wrist and digits. Since in people with OA, the loss of hand function results from both pain and loss of motion, this kind of gentle exercise program may help preserve finger motion. Hand surgeons or hand therapists may also recommend splinting, which decreases the pain by limiting motion at affected joints. Glucosamine and chondroitin are diet supplements that have been documented to decrease OA symptoms in the knee and may also have benefits for those with hand OA. Other options to control symptoms include steroid injections and/or hyaluronic acid injections, both of which may help.
Last, if all non-operative measures fail, there are numerous surgical options that may bring relief. For example, joint replacement at the base of the thumb has a well-documented long-term success rate. Similarly, arthritic finger joints can now be replaced with implants like those used in total knee replacement surgery. These finger joint replacement procedures are effective in both restoring joint motion and resolving finger OA pain.
Another strategy suggested by Daily Health News contributing medical editor Andrew L. Rubman, ND, is to try a contrast hand bath treatment, which has been used as a remedy for this kind of pain for centuries. Prepare a glass bowl containing boiled water with as much Epsom salts as will dissolve — allow it to cool enough to be safe and tolerable, but still very hot (about 105°F). Next to it, place another bowl with cold water and a few ice cubes. Soak the sore hand in the hot water for five minutes, then immediately move it to the ice water for two minutes. Remove and wait a few minutes. Repeat the process, microwaving the hot water to keep it hot enough to be effective and replacing ice cubes in the cold as needed. Always allow the temperature of your hand to return to normal. Do this as often as you find helpful, even hourly.
I was delighted to be able to call my cousin and tell her I’d spoken to a respected expert here in the US who gave that discouraging tidbit about hand osteoarthritis a thumbs down — and I reminded her not to believe everything she hears, even when it’s on the evening news.

Anonz, I would love to f**k you. The girls here eat your shit up. I’m no wall-flower, but I have been known to be shy around some men. But when gather around the water cooler and your name comes up, my pants get so wet. I start talking about anything and I feel so confident.

I finally made partner in this bastion of male ignorance. Now, maybe we will start to earn some real money. You’d think with 7 partners and 31 ivy league law graduates working here we would all be multimillionaires by now. You’ would be wrong. I made my first million last year.

I’m 27 years old. My best years are ahead of me, but I’m in a firm whose partners have seen their better years. I make less than a third of what these old geezers make. But I probably have more cash on hand because the got taken by the recent crash.

If you ever need a lawyer or a f**k mate, I’m your girl. But level with me do you really believe in UFO’S.

The girls here think it’s a ruse to hide your true identity. Some think that you are a composite of some billionaires that they know or have met. I run in some fancy rich circles, but I don’t think so. You sound like who you say you are. I’d f**k you.

Consider that a compliment. I am a very picky woman.

Just as early as March 2008, the secretary of treasure said the financial institutions are strong and sound. Now he asks for 700 billions dollar to recuse his wall street pals. I wonder if anyone believe this hypocrite. Moreover why should the hardworking taxpayers pay for the blunders that the over pay CEO of the financial institutions made. All those CEOs only care to make the book look good so that they can get their million dollars bonus and now their companies are in trouble they ask the tax payers to bear the burdens, give me a break. America is already deep in debt. If the government borrow another 700 billions dollar to recuse the financial institutions will put the country further deep in debt and will be hard to recover and put more burdens to the taxpayers while these CEO continue to live in their mansions and drive their fancy car. I urge everyone to oppose such rediculous notion and let the businesses take care of their own mess and teach them a lesson rather than giving them the idea that it alright for them to do business as they see fit and if something happen the government will bail them out. Afterall, if you and I were to lose our business we have to take the responbility so should those financial institutions.
