We’ve bought another 72 hours

Posted by michellemoquin on September 30th, 2008

I have to say that Americans are making history – America is pulling a Howard Beale and shouting, “We’re tired as hell and we’re not going to take it anymore!” Hundreds of thousands of Americans woke up yesterday (finally)  and decided to take action and revolt against the bill that everyone said would pass. Millions of people jammed the lines with their phone calls and emails just to give their two cents, their feelings on this entire bailout bs. The politicians didn’t see it coming. We’ve finally found our moxie….we’re coming together as a community.

It was a rare historic moment. Not only is the president not being backed by his party which says a lot,  but the bill supported by both parties went down in defeat. The people are shouting loud and finally being heard.. we are having an impact and this is huge.

Forty percent of Democrats and two-thirds of Republicans voted against the bill: a 228 vote to 205.

Why do you think the parties are banning together? Gee do you think the repugs are just a tad scared they are going lose their seats in the house? A bit nervous that up to 30 seats could be lost and their big plans would go down the toilet?  Just maybe…if they act like they are on the side of the people and not on the side of our president, just maybe they might save their asses and their agenda’s.  These are the same repugs who  backed the war, put our country into debt, and voted out any and all regulations that would make the Wall Streeters accountable for this economic mess that were in. Yep…these are the same repugs who are now standing up for main street. Or….do you think that Bob is correct when he commented yesterday that the anonzs of the world own the repugs – Anonz stated he was not for the bailout. Hmmm…

And the Dems?  Well from what I read, some of them who voted for the bailout were in fear just like many of the people. So…did their fears showed up yesterday when the market dropped in the Dow, the largest drop in history of the New York stock exchange?  The news media screamed it was disastrous – 1.2 trillion dollars lost in the stock market. People will lose jobs, say goodbye to retirement funds  and stock-based pensions.

But ya know what? When you stand up for what you believe in some people are going to get hurt financially, some people are going to lose their jobs. Nothing really worth fighting for comes easy or for free.  Freedom and the right to fight for our freedoms has a price. We have stood up to our government, albeit it has been a really long time since we have shouted like this, but we have finally woken up from our sleep.

And as far as Wall Street is concerned…nobody really lost anything.  Stocks go up. Stocks go down. And throw in my fav motto this year…’And this too shall pass.’  We all know that the anonzs of the world are always going to make money.  The rich will buy low, hold, then sell off and buy low again. Bailout or no bailout, they will be reaping the profits and continuing to fleece. It just is what it is.

So why do you think the bailout didn’t fly?

This is what I found out. The bill didn’t favor the average American – check it out:

1. The bailout bill had NO enforcement provisions for the so-called oversight group that was going to monitor Wall Street’s spending of the $700 billion;

2. It had NO penalties, fines or imprisonment for any executive who might steal any of the people’s money;

3. It did NOTHING to force banks and lenders to rewrite people’s mortgages to avoid foreclosures — this bill would not have stopped ONE foreclosure!;

(Remember when I said yesterday that they would ‘try’?)

4. It had NO teeth anywhere in the entire piece of legislation, using words like “suggested” when referring to the government being paid back for the bailout;

5. Over 200 economists wrote to Congress and said this bill might actually WORSEN the “financial crisis” and cause even MORE of a meltdown.

Lastly, I have to add this video. Rep. Marcy Kaptur stood up and said it all – You have got to watch this. She calls it the latest ‘reality game’ called: ‘Wall Street Bailout”.  She is so right on.

We’ve bought another 72 hours.  Continue to voice your opinion. The fight isn’t over yet.

Readers:  You know I want to hear your thoughts. To all my international readers…c’mon now, do you still think we’re all that stupid? You have to admit…this is getting good.

Peace out.

Gratefully your blog host,

michelle ?

    Rep. Marcy Kaptur will never be allowed to get this before the American people. She is so correct. I would correct only her last line to read well healed thieves.

    Alas, we will just walk away so much richer.

    Sapping the “juice” from prescription pills
    There was a lot of attention a couple decades ago to studies that showed grapefruit juice boosted the absorption into the blood of certain drugs, throwing off dosages. This made “safe” doses of common drugs to treat high cholesterol, elevated blood pressure and irregular heartbeats potentially lethal. ??Now, researchers are claiming that grapefruit juice — as well as orange and apple juice — can lower the rate of absorption for some drugs. The list of drugs that can have their absorption rates lowered includes cancer meds, some beta blockers and antibiotics. ??Here’s the really crazy thing: these interactions can happen up to three days after cutting into a grapefruit or drinking the juice. Apparently, if you’re taking pharmaceuticals regularly, you might need to cut grapefruit, apple and orange juices out of your life. Check with your doc to see if the drugs you are taking can have their absorption rates affected by these juices. ??The real lesson here is that prescription pills are powerful stuff, and they can and will interact with just about anything. As always, I encourage you to have a frank discussion with your doc about whether you really need to be on the pills you’re taking – and whether there might be safer alternatives available. ?

  3. Doug Says:

    The press makes this out to be much more disastrous than it actually is. As AH stated, there is no collapse, just a change in circumstance. Perhaps we should remember that time heals all wounds. I am glad that there has been a decision, though, as this will allow the market to move through the indecision. As you say, the Anonz will make their money regardless…it might take a bit more work or strategy than us just simply giving it to them…

    It may have been the largest point drop, but not monetary loss or by percentage it was not. That is the same as saying the highest grossing movie…Due to the nature of the rising costs to get into a film it will continue that every year there will be a new highest grossing film.

    It is empowering to see that the people of America have spoken and are telling the Bush and McCant clan to get lost. We aren’t listening to your shit any longer.

    When McCain touted his progress and attention to making this pass and his party voted against him makes it simple…there is NO leader for the Repugnicant party any more.

    I applaud this major change in American voice to rise up. I applaud the people of the country to stand firm in their resolve for a true taxpayer bailout. The video today speaks volumes for the corruption and mismanagement that has taken the United States these past eight years.

    I speak about a virus that has sickened America on my blog yesterday. Today there is a layout of the previous bailouts over the past century which makes for interesting reading at http://bdgroupllc.blogspot.com

    Hi Mischa, oh yeah, right on, she gives good truth roar, loved it.

    Anonz, we’ll be expecting the wheels to your MBZ in DC by Friday : ) tell your cronies, too.
    hahaha…
    Fyi, Ed the commenter @ Edgy Dreamer is back, still jealous of you (Zenerella, why are you still quoting THAT guy?) too funny. He likes my form, his words. My reader #’s go big when either your political comments are posted or I write about Hump Day, hmmm, may not be totally int’l crowd but I like the way they think ; ) I’ve had a few women write in asking specific q’s…interesting, I’ll answer as soon as I can get the smirk off my face and provide an answer that would be of help to a sister.

    Nadia, if you are out there, Azir the Yugoslav Muslim living in France finally conceded that men should take a beating if they commit adultery, too, but he had to, I had his jugular in my teeth vampire style : ) although I did add, why stay married if your both boffing other people, what’s the point? He hasn’t responded to that yet.

    Where are the aliens: Adam/Tal and earthling girls: Maddie? Not that the political talk isn’t fascinating, it’s just that I’m wondering if the aliens did a drive by here between 6-7:30 this AM, I had the most outstanding experience that surpassed any dream state I can recall. I’d like more of that so if it was an induced state, bring it back : ) please? If it was just a dream, wow, I can’t wait to get some sleep tonight.
