Good morning!

A female Bartender speaks of her life lessons from bartending in the big city…telling it like it is in a very honest and direct way…and some of it is kinda funny.

Confessions Of A Bartender: 10 Things Every Bartender Absolutely Hates About You

I remember the first day I stepped foot in my bar. I had just gotten laid off from the job that made me pray for a subway crash every morning, and was drinking free on the dime of a family friend who was a bartender there. It was Halloween. I was dressed like a Victoria Secret Angel. I was 22. I had never so much as made a martini or poured a beer from a tap. When I was offered a job hostessing one day a week that day, I didn’t think I would ever parlay it into a four-year stint that has given me more opportunities and money than I could have ever imagined.

But here I am, four years later, possibly on the verge of leaving and finally putting my English degree to use writing TV shows in L.A. And the bar/restaurant that I call second home in New York City has taught me a lot of life lessons. I’d like to pass those lessons on to others because I genuinely feel like I owe it to all my other bartender friends to try to educate the masses as I go.

10. I am a bartender, not an escort.

Funny how a lot of guys in suits seem to mistake the two, but just because I get you a beer and have a vagina while doing so, it does not give you the right to grab my ass or say inappropriate shit to me. That’s assault, brotha. If you think grabbing a girl you don’t know’s ass is a good icebreaker, maybe you should reevaluate your life. I am not being paid to flirt with you or your friends. I do not get paid nearly enough to pretend I am remotely interested in 98 percent of the bankers, traders, stock brokers and other finance guys who roll through my little bar during the week. And for the guys in my bar who already crossed that line, if you think I haven’t thought about messaging your wife on LinkedIn about how I had to have her husband thrown out because he put his hand up my skirt, you’re greatly mistaken. It’s always on the backburner as an option. Treat me with respect, and you will not be forcibly evicted from my bar. Or ratted out to your wife for being a groper.

9. Anything less than 20 percent is blasphemy.

Sorry, kids. This isn’t an ego thing; this is a New York thing. Most service industry workers make about $2.13 an hour, far below minimum wage. My livelihood is my tip. And I know without a doubt, I never give service that is worth less than 20 percent. I always find it funny to hear these guys who work for Morgan Stanley or Barclays or UBS or Bank of America talk about throwing money around, but when a $153 bill is dropped, everyone gets real quiet. I was an English major who was terrible at math, and somehow even I know that $20 on anything more than $120 is an insult. It’s ironic that those who deal with money on a daily basis are the ones who seem the most confused when it comes to adding a tip. You aren’t curing cancer or solving the debt crisis here, bro. You’re leaving a 20 percent tip on a check, and I’m pretty sure your phone even has a calculator. Maybe that explains the financial crisis of the last four years. If you can’t figure out 20 percent of 173, you probably shouldn’t be handling millions of dollars a day for other people. Or if you’re just too cheap to leave an adequate tip, maybe you should just stay home. Do you work for free? No? Okay cool because neither do I.

8. Don’t ever tell me to buy you a drink. I am all about buybacks.

I love rewarding loyal patrons who are courteous, respectful and patient with a round. What I don’t love is having someone demand I buy them a round, or worse, demand I buy MORE rounds for them. Even if you have a regular presence at a bar, it doesn’t always justify a buyback, let alone multiple buybacks. When people say, “Well, I’ve spent $300 here, you aren’t going to buy me anything?” I usually respond by saying, “When you go to CVS and buy a hundred bucks worth of stuff in toiletries, do you demand free bottles of shampoo or Tylenol?” If you are asking for free drinks, more than likely you’re a jerk in the general scheme of life and I don’t do buybacks for them. Seriously, who ASKS for free drinks? How poor are you?

7. Don’t ask me for something “fun.”

Dude, I’m going to be 27. I’ve been drinking for 10 years. I know what I like; I know what I don’t. When I go to a bar, I have four staples – Hoegaarden, Chardonnay, Jack and coke, Bud Light. If the bar offers crazy concoctions, I’ll browse the list. But to the women who think they’re in an episode of “Sex and the City,” no, I don’t want to make you something “fun.” All alcohol is fun. You get drunk. Whether it’s pink or brown or blue or clear, it’s fun. Pick a drink, and stop expecting the bartender to have a secret bottle of hot pink glittery awesome fun that’s just going to take your drinking experience to the next level behind the bar. It’s cranberry juice for Christ’s sake. My grandma used to drink it when she was constipated.

6. I am not stupid.

Yes, I work in a bar, and I have for a while. But many years ago I had a nine-to-five desk job with benefits and a computer and a boss who made my life hell. And you know what? I hated it. I am not dumber than you because you wear a suit to work, and I wear leggings and a tank top. I am not dumber than you because I serve beer, and you tell people you trade bonds when you actually get your boss’s lunch and laundry. I too, went to a decent college (holla, Terps). I have a degree. I travel. I’m cultured. I love sports, and I’ve been published. I work my ass off both at my bar and trying to get where I want to be with my writing. Do not assume that because I am the one pouring your beer, that somehow I am less ambitious than you or a disappointment who wasn’t so capable as you were to get a job in IB or marketing. Just because I don’t sit at a desk all day and crunch numbers does not mean I am not changing the world in my own way.

5. I am more important than an intern.

My favorite story to tell the younger people. Long ago, I befriended a patron named J. I used to hate him because he’d come in right as I was closing. He knew this. Eventually, he wised up and began coming in earlier and tipping graciously. I would buy him rounds, chat with his coworkers, and make him look like the coolest mother to ever grace a New York bank when he brought clients in for drinks or dinner. J loved me. So when three little snobby intern brats who made it clear they worked with him decided to tip me three dollars on a $310 check, then call me a bitch as they walked out because, hey, they work at a bank, and they are just too cool to be nice to lowly bartenders, they had no idea that I would go to my dear friend J. And here’s the thing: J is in his late 40’s. He’s with it. He likes having the in at my bar. Want to know what J doesn’t like? People associating him with 21-year-old twits who tip badly and call me a bitch on his company’s reputation. J later called the three little interns and told them to come back. He told each to tip me $30. As they left, I told them the most important lesson they might ever learn. I am more important to J than they are. They are one in a million on Monster.com. There are a million other Georgetown, Duke, Brown, Yale, Cornell and UNC kids who could replace them in a second. Their daily routine of getting yelled at and going to pick up lunch for their boss can be performed by any idiot willing to sell his soul for a bullet point on his resume. Me? It took J a year for me to warm up to him. To get the buybacks, to get the reserved tables, to get the “J’s the greatest” in front of the big buyers. I am the reason J comes to this bar. You? You’re about to get fired. Might want to work on that “better than thou” attitude before you graduate.

4. Don’t tell me to smile.

Don’t write it on a check. Don’t write it on a napkin, and certainly don’t say it to my face. Look kids, I know it’s hard to believe, but I too have problems. I have bad days, and sometimes I am not all smiles. I will always do my best to be polite and attentive — qualities any good server should employ regardless of how their day is going. But do people walk around your office telling you to smile while you’re sitting at your desk? My favorite response to people who seem to think I should constantly be smiling is usually that I just found out my dad’s cancer came back, or that it’s the anniversary of my mother’s death. Neither are ever true. However, don’t assume you know what’s going on in the life of the person who is serving you. Don’t wanna feel like a total jackass for telling a girl who’s dad just died to “smile?” Well, then don’t tell her to smile. I work in a bar, not Chucky Cheese. Stuff happens in my life too, and sometimes my job sucks. Don’t expect me to greet every person like I just won the mega millions.

3. We are not “in your town.”

One of my biggest pet peeves is when tourists from backwoods, stereotypical, Southerntown come in to my bar, usually around the holidays, get a glass of wine or a mojito or a margarita and are seemingly SHOCKED at the prices, conveniently after they drink the whole thing. When the argument becomes, “Where I live a glass of wine is five dollars,” it takes a lot of me to not say something like “because it looks like you enjoy a good box of Franzia.” Much like everything else in New York -– food, clothing, toiletries, hotel rooms, shows and hookers –- drinks at a restaurant/bar are going to be on par with the rest of the city and more expensive than they’d be in Sheboygan. Just like while you pay $500 bucks a month to live in a four bedroom townhouse in Arkansas, I pay $1250. The cost of living in New York is higher because the cost of EVERYTHING in New York is higher. Even I passed ECON101. If you come to New York and expect a beer to be the same price as it is at your local dive bar down the street in the town that isn’t locatable on a map, I suggest you get out more. And honestly, do I look like I make the call on the prices at this place, dude? I am the bartender, not the owner. If you complain about it, I will not be able to do anything for you, but I will certainly judge you and assume you are cheap. Nobody wins.

2. I judge you based on what you order.

I know to I.D. if you’re ordering a Malibu bay breeze in January or a bloody Mary at 9:30 p.m. I know you’re an idiot if you order a very dry martini with no vermouth. Very dry MEANS NO VERMOUTH. If you don’t know what I mean when I ask if you want something up or on the rocks, neat or on the rocks, then you shouldn’t be ordering your drink to begin with. Educate yourself on your booze. If it’s not 1987 (since I’m not Tom Cruise) please don’t order a drink like you’re in the movie Cocktail. No daiquiris or pina coladas. You are not Samantha from Sex and the City, and no I can’t make that Cosmo any pinker without curing you of a UTI.

1. You sound like you’re from London!

Do not let the British guy pay the check or leave the tip. Please. Ever. Seriously. Don’t.

“Revenge Porn’” – Shame For Cruelty And Profit

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 20th February 2013

Bookmark and Share

Good morning.

As if women don’t have enough to be concerned about when it comes to men. Now women have to consider whether the man they were intimately involved with, a man they were possibly in love with, might become a disgruntled ex for whatever reason and take revenge by posting intimate pictures of them…pictures that they never intended anyone to see,  on websites that support this kind of thing.

Yes, there are websites that not only allow naked photos to be posted, but intimate details of the women as well as their resident addresses. Basically a resource for rapists to check out their prey before they hunt them down at their own home to rape them, and possibly kill them.

Here’s the write:

revenge porn- shame for cruelty and profit

Women are fighting back against sites that allow ex-boyfriends to post naked photos of them

By the time Hollie Toups, Marianna Taschinger and dozens more women from small towns in Texas have settled their lawsuit against Web host GoDaddy.com and website Texxxan.com, their names will be permanently associated with images they never intended anyone to see.

Whether they win or lose their case — and there is a very good chance they will lose — they will have to live with the fact that employers, family members and friends will always link them with private photographs and public humiliation. For years, they will be harassed and distressed.

But at least they can say they fought back. If nothing else, their battle represents a new front in the war against the ways the Internet is used to reinforce discrimination against women. And their story offers lessons for the rest of us about the role we have in changing destructive online behavior.

Toups, Taschinger and the others are plaintiffs in a groundbreaking classaction lawsuit against a “revengeporn” website. Texxxan.com is a typical example of these sites in that it allowed users, often disgruntled ex-boyfriends, to post nude photos of women, along with detailed personal information, without the women’s permission. For the last several years, these sites have been sprouting up like mushrooms, often being shut down not for their vile content but for violating web hosts’ terms of service or running afoul of child pornography laws. Perhaps the best-known predecessor to Texxxxan.com was IsAnyoneUp.com, which launched in 2010 and at its peak brought in around $13,000 a month in advertising revenue, according to founder Hunter Moore. (Moore was later investigated by the FBI for posting pictures of underage girls.)

Texxxxan.com may be the first “revenge porn” site to face a lawsuit from those who have been wronged. The site’s former Web host, GoDaddy.com, also is named in the suit, along with its members who paid for subscriptions.

The lawsuit states that Texxxan.com “is significantly designed to cause severe embarrassment, humiliation, and emotional distress” to the plaintiffs.

If anything, that’s understating the case.

Taschinger, 22, said she doesn’t always feel safe leaving her house. “There have been times when I wanted to go out, to get my cat, and I had to wait for my brother-in-law to get home,” she said. “I don’t want to go out alone, because I don’t know what might happen.”

In December, Texxxan.com published nude photos of an 18-year-old Taschinger, submitted by an ex-boyfriend (now in his mid-30s), along with her address. She lives in Groves, Texas — population 14,393.

Taschinger said she hasn’t even been able to think about how the photos will affect her prospects for education and employment — right now she’s still worried about her safety. “Normal people don’t subscribe to sites like this,” she said. “Only creeps. Knowing that those are the kinds of people who know where I live, and (the harassment) is only going to get worse before it gets better, I never feel safe.”

Thirty-two-year-old Hollie Toups of Nederland, Texas — population 17,547 — is the original plaintiff in the case. She has no idea who posted her photos on the site, some of which were taken to track her weight loss progress and never left her possession. She says she may never know who sent her photos six months ago to Texxxan.com. What she does know is that when she contacted the site, the owner offered to take down her photos for a fee — and that was when she decided to stand up for herself.

“It had to stop somewhere,” Toups said. “I have my family to think about, my future to think about. And the fact that there were so many other girls on that site — I mean, there were about 50 of us just from this little area alone, some of them were underage — at some point, someone had to say that this can be fought. We had to take back control of our lives.”

If it doesn’t seem fair that these young women could have their lives and futures compromised simply because an old boyfriend or a stranger wanted to humiliate them, that’s because it’s not. It’s completely unfair — but it might not be completely illegal.

“I think it’s a bit of a legal reach,” said Erica Johnstone, a partner with the San Francisco law firm Ridder, Costa, and Johnstone LLP who specializes in online harassment. Johnstone said that both the Web host, GoDaddy.com, and the website’s owner are likely to claim immunity under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which offers websites broad protections against legal liability for content created by other people. (GoDaddy.com has taken down Texxxan.com for violation of its terms of service — the website’s owner used a fake name and address to register it.)

Texxxan.com’s owner, who used the name James Smith to answer questions, said he is completely confident of his ability to fight the lawsuit.

“It’s completely bogus,” he wrote in an e-mail regarding the lawsuit, citing Section 230. “The site is legal, the pictures won’t go away, and (this lawyer) has only made it worse for the girls.”

Smith told some of the plaintiffs that he has multiple websites and has kept their pictures. He blames them for their predicament, not himself: “When you take a nude photograph of yourself and you send it to this other person, or when you allow someone to take a nude photograph of you, by your very actions you have reduced your expectation of privacy.”

Smith still cares about his own privacy, though. When asked why he wouldn’t reveal his real name, he said, “Because I choose to keep my private life private. I don’t need the headaches that publicity brings.” How convenient for him. And how indicative of the larger problems that revenge porn points to — that some people are allowed to maintain their privacy online, no matter how reprehensible their actions might be, and others are denied the opportunity to have any privacy at all.

“Essentially what’s being said with a case like this is that (Smith) has been allowed to participate in a public forum and destroy other people’s lives without suffering any consequences,” said Professor Mary Anne Franks, an associate professor of law at the University of Miami. “It’s an incredibly ugly statement about society when you put that in a larger context of discrimination and power.”

By allowing anonymity for those who would seek to shame and humiliate others — usually people who already suffer from powerlessness within society — the Internet can actually be used to reinforce our offline status quo of discrimination.

“It’s very easy to say, ‘Oh, no one should take naked pictures,’ ” Franks said. “It’s very easy to say that the best way to avoid this kind of suffering for yourself is to limit your own freedom. But if you look at who suffers the online consequence of, say, taking naked pictures, or even just suffering sexual harassment for no reason at all, it’s not men. It’s women, and it’s girls. It’s another way of saying that women and girls don’t have the right to be in a public space.”

Adrian Chen knows all about that. Chen, a 28-year-old senior staff writer for the media gossip site Gawker, has developed a reputation for revealing the personalities behind some of the darker, more misogynist corners of the Internet. In 2010, after he explained that a group of users on the enormous Internet message board 4chan were publicly humiliating and bullying Jessi Slaughter, an 11-year-old girl, 4chan users attacked Gawker’s website, released the passwords of its staff writers, and published Chen’s personal information.

“If you push against this sort of thing with an online community, they’ll swarm you, send you thousands of emails, threaten you, and try to hack you,” Chen said. “It can be disastrous.”

Still, he stepped back into the fray in October when he discovered the identity of a 49-year-old Texas man who ran some of the worst and most popular forums on the enormous Internet site Reddit — ones full of pictures taken covertly of women in public, pictures of undressed teenage girls that have been posted without their consent, and all manner of racist and gory imagery.

Chen contacted the man, programmer Michael Brutsch, and then posted his name on Gawker. When his employer discovered what Brutsch had been doing, he decided that Brutsch was not someone who should be in his workplace — and so Brutsch lost his job. No criminal charges have been filed against him.

Hundreds of Reddit forums blocked Gawker’s links after Chen’s action, claiming that Chen had somehow violated Brutsch’s “free speech rights.” The CEO of Reddit, Yishan Wong, wrote in a memo leaked to Gawker that his site stands “for free speech” and bemoaned “the problem of irresponsible release of personal information to the general public.”

The free speech and the rights of those who were violated by Brutsch’s activities were not considered in their discussion.

They need to be considered in the broader discussion. “I just don’t think that anonymity is a value that we should try to protect above and beyond other people’s rights,” Chen said. “There are definitely legitimate reasons for anonymity online. But ganging up on people isn’t one of them.”

It’s sort of incredible that this sentiment still needs to be stated in 2013, but our laws — and apparently, our morality — haven’t caught up with our technology.

“Once you’ve reached that level of being able to destroy someone’s life completely, the law gets very difficult because the Internet’s one step ahead of our legal framework,” Franks said. “There could be a very specific legal fix for the revenge porn problem through federal legislation. For others, it might be a question of changing the social norms.”

“Changing the social norms” is, always has been and always will be a long, risky and challenging process. But there is some evidence that it’s already starting to happen.

One of the more interesting aspects of the horrific rape case in Steubenville, Ohio, last year (wherein high school football players were accused of documenting their rape of a drunken 16-yearold girl) was the role played by hackers in publicly shaming those who taunted the victim or documented her rape.

By releasing a slew of offensive tweets, e-mails and videos from residents of the town — of which the best known was a disgusting 12-minute diatribe from Michael Nodianos, an Ohio State University student who has since dropped out of school, citing threats — the hackers (known only as Batcat and KYAnonymous) drew a lot of attention to the case. The publicity also caused those who were humiliating the victim to stop and apologize publicly.

Was the hackers’ behavior extralegal? Sure.

Was it the only response we have to combat the use of the Internet to ritually shame and humiliate women and girls? At the moment, yes.

That represents a failure of the law to protect women and a failure of Internet users to create spaces where the rights of all people are considered and respected.

Readers: This just goes to show you how much men care more about their needs, including a need for revenge, and how little these men care about the safety and livelihood of the women they were once in an intimate relationship with. This is so sickening to me. What are these men thinking?

First of all, shame on GoDaddy and other sites that supported this. And shame on the men who have become members of these sites.  Would you ever date a man who you found out was a member of a website that promoted this sort of thing? This should be added to the list that I blogged about awhile ago, of website you don’t want to find your significant other perusing.  If you ask me, something drastic should be done to the men posting this porn, and especially if any woman is harmed from these “revenge porn” sites.

Thanks to my mother for bringing this to my attention.

Thoughts? Blog me.

Zen Lill: Love the RAK  story. I can’t wait to hear how you pass it on.

Social Butterfly: What a cool story. Thanks for sharing. Happy to hear you are feeling better.

Alycedale: I looked up the word “hubris” when I discovered the write. The first thought that came to my mind was “Wha’at? – Where are they going with this?” Did I examine it as you so brilliantly did? Nope. I gave Maddow deference and just decided to watch it. And watch it I did.

And throughout the show my mother kept asking, “Why wasn’t Bush impeached? Why aren’t these people going to jail for this?” I couldn’t answer her. All I could say is they should be in jail – It was all a lie so they could make money at the expense of lives. At the very end my mother said, “Bush still doesn’t get it – He still believes he was right to make that decision.” I said “Mom, he is a LSOS – he’s not about to admit he made the wrong decision because he knew there were no WMD’s..he knew exactly what he was doing, and it was all for the money.

I thought everyone would get that. But you are so correct, in your analysis. The word “Hubris” takes greed right off the table. My mother was buying his BS. How many others thought the same? Your commentary increases reader awareness and enhances the reader experience. Thank you for taking the time.

Al: Happy you enjoyed it. I thought it was kinda cool too.

Cynthia: Thanks for posting the link. Interesting looking reads. It sounds like this is a good resource for those having trouble such as yourself. I HOPE you and your husband are hanging in thee. Good luck.

Peace Out.

Lastly, greed over a great story is surfacing from my “loyal”(?) readers. With all this back and forth about who owns what, that appears on my blog, let me reiterate that all material posted on my blog becomes the sole property of my blog. If you want to reserve any proprietary rights don’t post it to my blog. I will prominently display this caveat on my blog from now on to remind those who may have forgotten this notice.

Good morning!

This was sent to me by a loyal reader who thought many of you would enjoy the read:

5 Web Sites That Should NEVER Pop Up in Your Man’s Browser

Trust is an important part of any relationship. If you don’t have faith in your boyfriend or husband, the connection you share can’t help but feel hollow. Yet, like everything else that matters in life, the bond you have with your significant other isn’t black and white.

The gray areas will always be there, especially if you have reason to believe your partner is not being up front with you. While it isn’t ideal, peeking at his Internet history may give you some insight into the true character of the man of your dreams.

But beware. You just might see some sites that should never pop up in his browser. So take a deep breath and consider this list of five web sites that you don’t want anywhere near your man’s computer.

Pornography Sites

If you find out that the love of your life has a few favorite sites that qualify as porn, you may have an issue. Although it doesn’t always mean anything is wrong with your relationship, some women think it’s a deal breaker. That’s because the need to watch porn could point to deficiencies in the real-life romance.

Also, there are cases where porn becomes an unhealthy addiction. And that can’t help but do damage to the sexual chemistry you’ve developed with your man.

The other side of the story is that porn may be an exciting way to freshen up your sex life. So you may look at such sites as a plus, not so much as an insurmountable crisis.

However, every woman has her own view of porn. You’d be wise to draw your own conclusions on this subject. But if you feel pornography shouldn’t be part of your man’s browser, use this topic as an excuse to have an open discussion about what you want from this relationship. It might take your bond in a new and important direction.

Dating Sites

You’ve been through lots of ups and downs with your man, which, logically, leads you to believe you’re both committed to each other and no one else. But then you find out he’s got a collection of dating sites in his browser. What does it mean? Unfortunately, such a discovery may not a good sign for the happily ever after you’ve imagined with this guy.

Some men like to explain that they’re just on these types of sites to meet people. It’s as innocent as that. But if this is really the case, why choose sites that are designed to create romantic attachments? That’s the question you have to ask yourself in a situation like this.

Gay Sites

When you plan to live the rest of your life with a man, the last thing you’d ever want to find in his browser are pages and pages of gay sites. It can only spell doom for your future, if you’ve always wished for a heterosexual, monogamous guy to be with for years to come.

But there is always the possibility that your main squeeze is simply curious about homosexual love. It may not be anything more than that. Of course, this can be a very embarrassing topic and one that the man in your life is hesitant to admit. Yet this secret interest may be the true reason behind his habit of storing gay sites on the home PC.

Still, the fact that you’ve found these web sites should give you reason to take a step back and really look at this relationship. It could be that your man is truly attracted to his own sex. If this is the real reason for his behavior, it will certainly get in the way of the romantic aspect of your attraction.

Couples counseling may be the way to go to figure out the next step in your relationship.

Spy Sites

You’ve been dating your life partner for a while and think you share a mutual trust. But everything changes in an instant when you discover he’s been browsing through sites that enable him to spy on your computer activity. Now that goodwill is out the window.

Every aspect of the faith you thought you had in each other is under scrutiny because he has revealed that he doesn’t believe in you. Whether his paranoia is because of past infidelities or he just has problems trusting women in general, this doesn’t bode well for your future as a couple.

The fact that he’s taken this extreme step to watch you online when you don’t have a clue he’s around brings up other disturbing questions. Where are his ethics? Does he have any? And if he is going out of his way to monitor you so secretively, what kind of information is he holding back from you?

These are all topics that need to be discussed before you can build any kind of trust with this man again. Otherwise, this cagey behavior is only going to get worse, building a foundation of suspicion on what should be a satisfying relationship.

Married Or Cheating Types of Sites

Not only does this discovery speak volumes about your hubby’s trustworthiness, but it says a lot about his respect for you in general. The slogan for one site is, “Join us today! It’s free. Don’t be married and bored or married and lonely. You can have fun meeting up with other marrieds in your area for married affairs and much more.”

You’ve taken marital vows and they mean the world to you. But what happens when you find out your very own husband is fixated on sites that help him cheat on you? Believe it or not, these web sites are pretty common. And they can spell the end of the marriage you’ve held so dear.

Sadly, however, the act of having an affair has been glamorized on the internet. Some of these sites actively promote the excitement of this kind of passionate liaison, creating marketing slogans that make immoral behavior fun. Your significant other may just be one of the many men who fall victim to a catchy advertising campaign, even at the expense of your marriage.

Readers: It is my early morning. I have no time to give you my two but I am certainly looking forward to reading yours. Blog me.

Anna of Guam: What an interesting little story on such a big adventure. I wonder if SF is in her plans. Thanks for sharing.

Al: How sweet. I don’t know too many young girls who didn’t have a love for horses sometime in their lives. They are such beautiful animals. It does bring back good memories for me too. I wish I could’ve shared a half a horse :) as your sister was so fortunate to have done. But I did get to ride with my girlfriend that did have a horse – (Sunshine was her name – the horse, not the friend), without having to share the upkeep.

Coming To A State Near You

Good morning!

More on the war on women – the GOP just can’t seem to stay out of our panties. There are a two states that have one last abortion clinic (Mississippi, North Dakota), and the GOP are working on closing these down, as well as a plan to hit the rest of the states throughout the U.S.,…one state at a time, to make sure women don’t get access to abortion.

So girls and guys don’t turn a blind eye. Get involved. Take action. Talk about choice. Your state could be next. Just because it isn’t happening in your state, yet…help our sisters maintain and access their constitutional rights. The GOP is getting more fringe (Is that even possible?) with their radical controlling conservative ideologies.

Here’s a segment from Maddow’s Blog that tells it all.

12 Indicted In Modern Slavery

Good morning.

I feel like the subject of the war on women is a never ending topic. I peruse the net in HOPEs of something positive that is happening to stop the violence. And then, I came across this tweet on Maddow’s Blog that us very poignant.

It’s a good question, yes? I am always stunned when someone votes for something that is not in support of women. And I can’t imagine being married to, or even being involved with, one of those men who votes no to protect women. Wha’at? There wouldn’t be a happy day in my household. But then, I wouldn’t even give a man the time of day to share with me if he was such a man, let alone share my bed with him.

And that’s also a shout out to women who are sharing their lives with men who support those men in office I am speaking of. Perhaps you don’t know your man is like that. Then get to know – ask questions. Perhaps he isn’t aware that who he is voting for is not in support of women.  Then inform him. Get involved in his political choices – enlighten him if he ignorant before he punches that ticket in the voting booth. Because that is the place where it makes a difference for all of us women.

Men will never care as much as women about our plight…Men will never experience the plight of women because what happens to us will never happen to them, so we must educate them and constantly be in their faces about the atrocities, so we can bring about change…big change…and end the violence.

This is a story about modern slavery, in our own country. It was one positive outcome that I found with very disturbing circumstances. We need less of these horrific circumstances occurring, and more being done about them.

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

In a federal investigation that spanned four states, 12 people were indicted on charges of trafficking of women and girls for prostitution from countries including Mexico and Nicaragua.

According to an indictment announced Thursday, 11 women were forced into prostitution as part of the ring that was run in Savannah, other parts of Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina.

The federal probe called Operation Dark Night was led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations and involved several federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.

Joaquin Mendez-Hernandez, aka El Flaco, transported people across borders for prostitution and conspired with at least three others to entice women from Mexico, Nicaragua and elsewhere to travel to the U.S. under false pretenses, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Georgia. When the women got to the U.S., they were threatened and forced into prostitution.

Mendez-Hernandez told a Mexican woman that she would be sent back to her home country unless she had 25 clients a day, according to the indictment.

“In what essentially amounts to slavery in the year 2013, the conduct described in the indictment against these defendants is reprehensible.  Human trafficking is a cancer facing our society.  This indictment confirms that the United States Attorney’s Office, HSI and other federal and state law enforcement agencies are taking an aggressive stand to stop the victimization of women involved in sex trafficking,” said U.S. Attorney Edward Tarver in a statement.

The FBI; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; U.S. Customs and Border Protection and its Air and Marine Operations; IRS-Criminal Investigations; Savannah-Chatham Metro Police; Chatham County Sheriff’s Office; Garden City Police Dept. and the Chatham County Counter Narcotics Team were part of Operation Dark Night.

Anyone who suspects instances of human trafficking is encouraged to call the HSI tipline at 1.866.DHS.2.ICE or the Human Trafficking Hotline at 1.888.373.7888. Anonymous calls are welcome.
