Good morning. This video depicts exactly how I’m feeling this morning: Sleepy. Ergo, this kitten is checking out, grabbing a Chai, and slowly making my way off to work. I’ll reserve my comments for tomorrow.

Peace out…

About this time last year I wrote an article about an organization ‘Stop The Spray’ which is a non- profit, founded to give a voice to those opposing the spraying of harmful and senseless pesticides in the Bay Area, to rid the area of the Light Brown Apple Moth.

Well, it’s that time of year again and the spray is about to happen again, unless we do something about it. If this concerns you, as it does me, take 15 minutes today and make some phone calls and make your voice heard.  The letter below explains exactly what to do – thank you. Thanks Tracey for the info!

Dear Friends,

As you have heard, the apple moth environmental impact report has been released and the program is much the same as before, with aerial and ground spray and other chemical and environmentally disruptive treatments.

Here are 6 things you can do now to stop the spray.

We are updating our website regularly with new information on the EIR and efforts to stop the program: www.eastbay.stopthespray.org

Thanks for your support,

Nan

1. Call USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack and ask him to reclassify the light brown apple moth to non quarantinable status and stop the LBAM program now.

- phone: 202-720-3631 is the main line for the USDA. Ask to leave a message for Secretary Vilsack.  OR EMAIL: agsec@usda.gov

*Talking points for calls/emails below after #2

2. Call California Department of Food and  Agriculture Secretary A.G. Kawamura and ask him NOT to certify the apple moth EIR and to stop the LBAM program now.

- phone: 916-654-0433 OR email:akawamura@cdfa.ca.gov

*Talking points for calls/emails:

-the state environmental document on the program has just come out and includes the possibility of aerial spray of large populated areas of California

-the moth has been intercepted in CA since 1984, but the state can point to only 1 questionable incident of possible apple moth damage in the past 26  years

– the program is an enormous waste of taxpayer money in hard economic times

3. Call your local city councilmember or county supervisor and ask that the city council or county board immediately send a letter to Secretary Kawamura asking him to delay certification of the Environmental Impact Report (which could be certified as soon as Thursday, Mar. 4) until public hearings on the program are held in all affected communities.

*Model letter from City of Albany attached to this email.

4.  Call your state and federal representatives and ask them to support federal reclassification of the moth and ending of the apple moth quarantines and eradication program, and tell them that the eradication program is a complete waste of taxpayer money.

* some key contacts at end of this email

5.  Call the state departments of Public Health, Environmental Health Hazard Assessment, and Pesticide Regulation and ask them to contact Agriculture Secretary Kawamura to request that he not certify the environmental impact report until the full formulas of the apple moth pesticides, including the adjuvants or so-called inerts, are disclosed (and for good measure add that you think this program is a complete waste of taxpayer money).

California Department of Public Health:   Mark Horton. Director    916- 558-1700 [ASK TO LEAVE A MESSAGE FOR DR. MARK HORTON] mark.horton@cdph.ca.gov

Department of Pesticide Regulation   Mary Ann Warmerdam, Director  916-324-1452    mwarmerdam@cdpr.ca.gov

Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment: Joan Denton, Director   (916) 322-6325    jdenton@oehha.ca.gov

6.  Call or email the office of State Assemblymember Sandré Swanson and express your appreciation for his introduction of AB 1721, the School Healthy and Safety Protection Zones Act, which would establish pesticide spray safety zones around schools across the state.  Mr. Swanson’s office needs to know BY NEXT WEEK that we support his efforts, especially from residents of his district: Oakland, Alameda, and Piedmont.

Did they want to further investigate Ashburn when he was recently busted? Of course not. As usual the GOP is trying to exploit the situation. They are ruthless and relentless.

Robert: Welcome back! (?) Thanks for your write.

Loni and Kelly: Thank you. :)

Flap Your Lips Friday

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 5th February 2010

Good morning.

How about a little fun? I mean it is Friday,  and if you don’t feel like flapping your lips, I can tell you this one in the video has a set and he’s doing quite the flappin’. This is hilarious humor and, the commentary is even better. Check it out:

Ahaha! I am still laughing. I love the guy commenting, “I wonder why he’s doing that?” ‘Duh…Because he can.’ He was into it.

Al: I know you have something funny to say. Bring it on…

Anna: That is a great way to learn from and look at your mistake. No one is perfect – myself included. I too have gone through that kind the anxiety  when I have realized that I have given incorrect information about something. When you know that many people are reading, one has to be very responsible what they put in  writing. But with a savvy group that I have here, you won’t get very far before someone brings it to light. As you said, “…I feel real good that you out there are paying such close attention to what I write.”  That’s the good news. :)

Glen: I thought I would chime in and respond to your comment. I think your wife is too thin myself. I am the same weight and 4-5 inches smaller, and presently I think I’m too thin so I can imagine what she must look like even if she is, as you say, ‘muscled, tight stick’. My cousin has a name for very skinny women -’stick chic’. He likes his women stout too. And by the way, I checked out that click over myself: No comment but I will say one thing ‘she has something to hold onto.’

But back to you and your wife. Perhaps there can be a compromise here. It sounds like you and your wife have a good relationship. Perhaps adding back on the 40 lbs won’t be happening but could both of you be happy if she put on 20?  I think life is all about balance so enjoying a sweet thing on the side now and then…oh and I’m talking ‘chocolates’, not ‘sweet young tenders on the side’ :), is perfectly okay. Have you tried talking to her, telling her how much you miss her and those ‘shopping dates’?

Speaking of ‘sweet young tenders’….I know you don’t want to cheat. And I know you are not asking her to cheat on you. I know that is not your desire; you just want her body to be appreciated by someone who loves her body and is turned on by it, and you’re not it. I get it. My sense is, if she loves you as it seems she does, and wants you to be ‘into her’, maybe she’ll give a little. Feeling good about yourself is one thing but having your man ‘into it’...desiring it’…well…there’s nothing like it. That is just the icing on the cake and deserves a good lickin’ – know what I mean? I definitely think you can work it out. Good luck.

Faatin: You are one brave girl. You have acquired some very valuable information. Trust Obama  – he will honor his word.  Madeline is aware of your circumstances. – Wait until you get a notice from her,  or someone Madeline  sends. Be safe and don’t worry. You will be taken care of.

Mary: To answer your question: ‘Yes.’

Ruth: I think you’re on the right track. I live on nuts and fruits. Say hello to the girls for me.

Thanks Evelyn: A wonderful reminder. Love to you too.

I have more to say but no more time…except for this little reminder:

Death In Denmark

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 4th February 2010

Awhile ago I wrote about the documentary ‘The Cove’, a film about the killing of Dolphins in Japan. Well, Japan isn’t the only country that is brutally massacring  innocent mammals. Pilot Whales, part of the Dolphin family are in danger too –  Denmark has a yearly ‘ritual’ too that takes place in the Faroe islands.

I watched several videos this morning and I felt sick to my stomach, not to mention tears streaming down my face – so many of them were so bloody brutal and graphic. This one is graphic too, but it also includes commentary that I think is important to hear.

One argument in the defense of this brutal killing is that there are so many of these Pilot Whales that they are not in danger of becoming extinct. I say, ‘So what?! Extinct or not, that is no excuse for inhumanely, violently killing these beautiful mammals.”

What gets to me the most is how social this gentle beings are, only to be greeted and gathered by human savages who care less about the fear and pain that these mammals go through, while they bleed to death in this blood bath...year after year after year….

Readers: I was told by an alien friend to not let my emotions overwhelm me, but to do something. The reason why I write about the atrocities that happen around the world is not only to inform but in hopes that one topic or another will strike in a cord in many of you, and you will make a point to take strong action in support of a particular topic(s) that means something to you. Every time I write a post such as this one, I pray that there is some special person(s) that will say to themselves, “This can’t go on anymore. I can not turn a blind eye – I am going to do something to change this.” There are so many amazing people who dedicate a big part of their lives to changing the world. I like to think that I am one of them – Are you?

Janice: I don’t need you to pray for me, thank you. As far as your husband and your affairs, I will respect your wishes. Let him whoop your ass if you feel you deserve it – who am I to argue in your defense when you have been brain-washed otherwise?

Zen Lill: I will let you know the answer to both of those questions in due time.

Tammi: I am sorry to hear about your story. How much does a woman need to take from a man, before she can take strong action against him, before he kills her? Evidently an abused woman has to take it all, over and over and over again. She can not protect herself from her man, nor the stand-behind-my-man minds of the women ready to convict her. Those 7 women were carefully picked to ensure your conviction. Although, women like Janice, I have discovered are more out there than I would like to admit. My thoughts are with you.

Lastly, greed over a great story is surfacing from my ‘loyal’(?) readers. With all this back and forth about who owns what, that appears on my blog, let me reiterate that all material posted on my blog becomes the sole property of my blog. Animal Advocates: Animals In Haiti Need Our Support Too

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 17th January 2010

As always I have been a strong advocate for my four-legged friends…the ones with no voice, that so depend on our support. This week has mostly been about giving…and giving…and giving some more. I know for many of you, helping humans is all you can do, but I also know that many of my readers love animals as much as I do. So if you can find a few more dollars and help the displaced animals…the ones that have lost contact with their caretakers, the animals would be so appreciative. And of course so would I.

Help on the Way for Haiti’s Animals

The world continues to feel the tragic impact from Tuesday’s earthquake in Haiti, which caused a horrific loss of life and widespread devastation.

If you’ve asked yourself what you can do as an animal advocate, please consider a donation to our Red Star Animal Emergency Services™ team.

Animal emergency responders do not yet have access to Haiti, as the priority understandably remains on meeting basic human needs. However, livestock vital to Haiti’s recovery, as well as homeless and hurting pets, are in dire need of assistance. Urgent planning is currently under way to help.

In response, American Humane has joined the Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti (ARCH), a group of professional animal welfare organizations working together to achieve the best possible outcome for animals in the region. The coalition is led by the World Society for the Protection of Animals and the International Fund for Animal Welfare.

Currently, our team members are not on the ground in Haiti, due to restricted access in the country, but we are providing significant funding support to the coalition. The coalition’s plans include saving the goats, chickens and cattle crucial to people’s health and livelihoods, providing food and clean water, and vaccinating companion animals against rabies.

Please give today to help us support this crucial effort and other future disasters!

Stay up-to-date on our Red Star team’s role in ARCH.

**************

Readers: I’ve already done the work for you as far as checking out this charity. It is BBB accredited.  82% of the funding goes towards the programs, with 13% to fundraising, and only 5% to administrative. Sounds good to me. We donated, can you? Thanks.

Hi Larry: I am sorry that you are having a hard time expressing your thoughts. There is really nothing I can do about it…wish I could. Thanks for being persistent.

Shelia: Thanks for posting the article. I signed the petition, and hopefully my readers did too.

And speaking of fees….were back to the banks again. I hope that you read the post from Joe Biden I totally back Barack and Biden on this Responsibility Fee. I signed the petition and I hope you did too.

I know that sometimes we feel that we’re signing all of these petitions and asking ourselves, “Is this going to do any good?” But it does. as Biden says, “Change isn’t easy,” and it may be slow, but it is progressive. Don’t give up.
