Happy Anniversary! The Blog Is 3-Years Old

I feel like every anniversary I say the same thing. So this year I’m just going to keep it simple and just say how much I am grateful to be here everyday. And grateful that you are too. I think my blog, and chitchatting with all of you on a daily basis, has made me a better person. So, thank you.

If I had to sum up the meaning of my blog, what I desire to inspire, in one word, I’d say that word would be HOPE. Is that trite? I’ll borrow it from Obama. (I’m sure he won’t mind:) Hey, I think he’s got it going. And in times like these, and really in any time, HOPE is always a good thing in my mind…and the more, the better. So I’ll leave it at that.

Happy Anniversary!

“3″ years…a good number…personally my favorite number, so I’ll take that as a good sign :)

Thanks for being here and choosing to spend your precious time with me.

Peace & Love…to all of you.

xoxo

Just A Dog

Good morning!

It is after 10:00 AM and I am just now sitting down to write my blog. I know I am late but I decided to take the morning off, grab a mocha from Peet’s and take a walk with Doug and Lucy. So forgive me for not putting my blog first this morning. :)

And that being said, I am going to be brief, and dedicate this morning’s write to my beloved Lucy. If you have a little four-legged love in your life, you know that they are more than ‘just a dog’.

I love you my sweet Lucy…

Tony: You are obviously not a photographer, or an individual with a discerning ‘eye’. It takes many shots of virtually the same photo to discover the true gem.

Caroline: What Zen Lill and I speak about in private time is much about what is said here. Really. Of course, mixed in with that is a bit of banter that is too personal to speak about here. So I am sorry if I made anyone feel left out, but we need to respect the people in our lives that don’t care to be part of our blog banter. As far as twittering, I spend enough time here and I twitter my blog write every now and then. I don’t have much time to twitter anything else. :)

Zen Lill: Happy to hear the firestarter got you going. I would love to hear more. Looking forward to seeing the big changes! :)

Have a fab Saturday everyone!  Peace out…

Clothing Swaps, Clean Energy: Both Good For The Environment

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 16th June 2010

Bookmark and Share

Good Morning…

I was out last night swapping clothes with some girlfriends. A good friend of mine always gives me the heads up and we head out together. This particular group of women I am not that close to, and most of them I only see when I go to these swaps, but I never miss attending one – I have so much fun.

Most of the women that attend these swaps have a pretty limited income, so thrift store shopping  and clothes swapping are their main ways of acquiring clothing. I rarely find something that I just have to have, but honestly I don’t go for the clothing; I really go for the conversation and connection to these women, and the excitement that I get to witness on their faces from  the new-to-you finds.

It brings me joy in more than just one way, knowing that I am doing a good thing by swapping clothing. When I see a woman pick up a garment that has been worn and adored by the previous owner, and now brings a smile to her face, it makes me smile.  I smile because it makes me happy to see women running around in their glory, swapping clothing, tossing a skirt, or a sweater, or a shirt, to a friend or a stranger, who they think would look good in it…laughing…drinking…having girl fun…I just love it.

I also smile because it may be simple, it may be small, and for most people they may not even give it a second thought as I do, but knowing the damage that manufacturing of clothing does on the environment, I am grateful that women such as myself and others get so much pleasure from passing on something once loved, to another who will love it more, and pass it on…and on…and on…And yes, every once in a while I do find a gem myself that makes me so giddy. :)

…so I missed Obama’s address on the BP spill and his plan to move forward with clean energy last night. I watched it this morning, and as much as I am sickened by the damage that the oil is doing, I can’t help but think that if something like this didn’t happen we would still be drilling down miles deep with clean energy just a distant dream. Now it is a goal, and one that will be challenging, but I believe totally reachable. Now it the time.

I certainly wish that we and so many innocent others didn’t have to endure such a drastic lesson that we brought upon ourselves, forcing us to finally make a change that is better for us…for all. I wish that we could’ve had the foresight, the care, the urgency, a lot sooner than now. But our MO until now has always been reactive instead of preventative. Perhaps now we will finally have a nation that truly thinks of our future…at least I believe that we have an administration that does.

In case you were out  having fun as I was, and missed Obama’s speech, here it is:

The President addresses the American people from the Oval Office for the first time on the ongoing Administration-wide response to the BP oil spill and America’s clean energy future.

And following is part of an email that I received from the Obama Administration:

The President presented a vision of a future where we as a nation are not held hostage by our dependence on fossil fuels — and a plan for an economy that invests in energy generated right here and creates jobs for millions of Americans in the process. Under his leadership, some of this is beginning to take shape — clean energy is starting to put people back to work across the country, building more efficient cars and trucks, repurposing old factories to manufacture wind turbines, and investing in research that will discover new energy technologies.

Critics will say that a real transition to clean energy is a challenge that can’t be met. But the President made it clear tonight that he will not back down — even if the path forward is not easy. And, as this movement has shown time and again, neither will we.

You are one of hundreds of thousands who have already stood with President Obama for a clean-energy future. Washington has put this off for far too long — America must act. We need your help today to show strong support for the President’s vision for a clean-energy future. Please pass on this email to five friends today — and ask them to join you in standing with the President:

http://my.barackobama.com/CleanEnergyFuture

Readers:  Now is the time more than ever for us to go for clean energy.

Zen Lill: Kudos for opening the blog up :) Please tell Miss Lilly that I am proud of her  - congrats on her accomplishments – too cool.

Are you kidding me: I don’t think I have a spaceship; I know I have one. And yes, it is that big. But don’t worry, I am not out to dupe anyone of their wealth. :)

Peace out…..

This ‘N That Chitchat

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 15th June 2010

Good morning! So fab to see all of you here!

Danielle: Thanks for the xoxo – right back at ya.

Zen Lill: Now, I didn’t say I wasn’t a fan of Kutcher’s bod – oh no….big fan. I was strictly talking that thing between his ears. I don’t know enough about that body part, his brain, to comment but he is certainly good eye candy, no doubt. I trust Demi knows how to pick em, so I guess what he’s got between his ears is as good as what he’s got between his legs. I’d leave a piece of me on him if he was available and I was a single girl. :)

I get your point about the issue of ‘slavery’ being a ‘sidebar’. Kutcher was named as one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world. When I read that he used twitter to strike up conversations, and send positive message to the world, I was intrigued.  I think it’s great that he does have it there, but I think it would have more of an impact if he was twittering those same articles and making personal comments about them. But it’s a start. I have yet to check out Demi’s twitters.

Linda: No, am I not trying to make it appear that Zen Lill has any special powers. I have lots of issues with people getting on to comment, and the TAO basically control the flow so that people are able to chime in. Otherwise the site would crash with so many people trying to post their two. The numbers are huge, and they vary depending on the topic. My international readers, especially women, are blocked, and the TAO helps out so that they can have a voice here too. I think I have said enough. All I will say is that it is very complicated.

Ynez and Trish: Isn’t her site cool? And she herself is even more rockin’. I love her vibe and the way she expresses herself. Her writes are just fun and inspiring, and as she says, ‘seriously helpful’.

I feel lately that I am so busy posting other articles of interest that I have lost some of my sense of fun on my blog. I used to have more, ya know…where I would just write about, ‘A day in the life of…’ I have a tendency to get too serious sometime but there is a lot to be serious about – there is also a lot to laugh about.

But, no I don’t want it to be all about me – hell no, but I am ready to throw in more doses of fun to the writing recipe again, and mix it up real good. Ah…so I’ll forget trying to find balance, that saying is so overused- As Danielle says, “Balance doesn’t exist, proportion, however does.” I like that. I’m going for a huge proportion of fun…every now and then. :)

Anyway, I kind of went off….I want to address your comment: I would like to say that Zen Lill is the golden key, and although it might appear that sometimes she is, I regret to say that she is not the reason it opens up, although the idea of it is fun. :) Danielle got in yesterday all by her beautiful self, Marcus got in first the day before and started up the conversation, and the day before that, ZL commented and no one else did, when I know that you all were trying to. So…hey, it might be easier for all of you if ZL was the lucky key, but then we would have to depend on her to chime in early everyday, and we all know she’s a busy gal. Like I said, the TAO is the gate keeper, and it is complicated. And to be fair, there is no editing done – all is random, just like the universe. Hey, but if we want to pretend that ZL is the golden key, and give kudos to her, I can do that too.  :)

Carl: I loved reading your comment about your sisters, but I just as much loved your support of them and women in general. You sound like a real cool guy. Your mother did good in raising all of you. And I’m happy to hear that your sisters are successful in politics – we need more women power in politics. “Hello” to your sisters – I hope you’re reading. :)

Mary: I am so sorry to hear about your sister and the outcome of her situation. Unfortunately it doesn’t surprise me. What gets to me the most is that the military promotes itself as being a team...and working together as a team….you know, all of the camaraderie. And yet, somehow the camaraderie gets forgotten or pushed aside when all of that testosterone is flying around. Sadly, rape in the military is not a small issue.

Women who choose this type of field, women who love it, as your sister does, have to endure so much more than most men in the military. Yes, PTSD is something that many have to deal with, and that is enough in itself.  But women have the added stress of rape by the men they are supposed to trust, not to mention the lack of support of the military in handling rape and pregnancy.

Abbie: ‘Real life unfiltered’ – that is definitely it.  It used to bug me too when people didn’t comment on my write, when I put so much energy and time into articulating myself so that I was clear in my thoughts. But like many things in life, I had to let it go…my blog has a flow like no other, and I like it that way. Perhaps that is why I personally write less and attach many articles to my write. I don’t have to spend as much time stressing over whether what is going on in my head is articulated well on paper – or in this case in cyber script. :) Hmm…it just dawned on me that perhaps that is also why I feel that my sense of fun…which is a large dose of me, has been missing. I guess I just had a small epiphany.

Anyway, back to you…thanks for all you do. You hold quite a challenging position in young girls lives, but I bet the rewards are grand. Thanks for the recognition, but I would definitely add your name to that lineup too. :)

Hafa Adai Anna

Minnie: Yippie! Thanks for helping to bag the bag – plastic that is. :) And congrats on losing all of that weight! I think ZL needs to write a book.

Helena: I have no answer to that question, and I have not heard any rumor. But if you want my opinion, I would stick with filtering your own potable water. I am hoping that the good water filters available, will still be able to continue to do their job. But who knows? The water situation in regards to the oil spill, is a disastrous mess. In addition, I trust my filter a lot more than I trust bottled water.

Vina: Not if I can help it. Like men, not all women have got it going. Palin was proof of this. And it’s not okay for women or anyone to dis Latinos. What it says is that we have our work cut out for us.

Irene: Hahah!! Great visual of you in the bathroom, but at a hotel? Really? Ah…the things we girls do for a little privacy. Congrats on the scholarship, and most of all, the attitude. You will need it at college.

FYI: The ‘bitch’ part I’ll take. As far as man-hating? Yep some men, I will admit, I do dislike. Do I hate? Hmm…I hate what some men do, but to hate them in general? No. Even to hate a man, I have to know him personally to feel that kind of strong dislike. Your father just hates that I point out the truth about some men. It’s because they have nothing else to say. The man-hater stamp has no affect on me, and it won’t be the last time someone wants to tattoo that moniker on my forehead.

Chris: George and Sonny are always welcome here. If they chose to not chime in, it isn’t because I scared them off. If men who support women are wimps in your mind, so be it- I love wimps. Obviously you got in and you’re no wimp. I have nothing else to say to you.

anon: I have to laugh; not at your story, but because I googled ‘spirit of Lopez’ thinking I was missing something, and then I realized that ‘Lopez’ was probably the name of your boyfriend. I read your comment right when I woke up and my brain was still sleeping.

I really don’t know how to answer your question. Your story is quite unique (I would think, but I’ve heard everything on this blog)I am glad that you are off meth, but feeding your beau to the pigs that you consume is just too sick. Can you just give up pork for a while? You know….say you’re sick of it? Not that I think his spirit is going to stick around and haunt you, but really….c’mon, you just can’t eat that pork.

Got to run now peeps…peacin’ out…

Women Rule

Even though the saying ‘Women Rule’ has been overused, the world hasn’t quite grasped the meaning.

I stumbled upon this quote from the Dalai Lama, when I was perusing Danielle Laporte’s Blog. Danielle had the good fortune of meeting with the Dalai Lama last year, amongst a small group of people, where they were so fortunate to ‘chat’ with him for about an hour.

I think His Holiness has quite a grasp on women.

“And you see, it does not matter whether you are Buddhist or Christian.” he went on. “Compassion lives in heart, beyond religion. Even me, Buddhist, I can say, you do not need Buddhism, just the compassion of the heart.”

“Women know this,” he went on. “Because, peace, peace is implicit in women. You put boys together, they make war. You put women together, they make peace.”

C’mon girls. It’s our time. Let’s band together like the boys okay?

Lastly, greed over a great story is surfacing from my ‘loyal’(?) readers. With all this back and forth about who owns what, that appears on my blog, let me reiterate that all material posted on my blog becomes the sole property of my blog. If you want to reserve any proprietary rights don’t post it to my blog. I will prominently display this caveat on my blog from now on to remind those who may have forgotten this notice.

Gratefully your blog host,
