A Peek Into ‘A Morning In the Life Of…’
Posted by Michelle Moquin on May 3rd, 2009

Sunday Morning:
I woke up and my only desire was to stay in bed and continue to sleep. I had trouble sleeping all night. And random dreams roamed through my brain morphing every few minutes into another strangeness…
…I wanted to adopt 4 dogs. I was worried about them as the owner would let them sleep on the hood as he drove around town…each one slowly slipping off the hood only to land in the street perfectly fine in a sitting position. I hugged each one, two reminding me of dogs that lived in my heart many years ago….
…I was walking down a bright staircase. I turned the corner only to find another stairway that lead down to a dark room. At the top of the stair, I turned on the light which only dimly lit up the room below. A person in a white space suit covered from head to toe was walking around unconscious of my presence. I felt scared. I didn’t want to be discovered. I turned slowly around to walk back up. My steps were uncertain. I felt as if I was moving in slow motion. I wanted to avoid any confrontation…
However, then I woke up, wishing I had confronted this person. So, I decided to fall back to sleep and see if I could continue this dream. The dream continued, but not as I wished….
…I was ‘working a party’ whatever that means…but I knew that I needed to get there so I rolled up my sleeping bag and wandered into this strange house that was perfectly set up with everything one could desire. So many different rooms…small rooms…with sounds of voices but on one could be seen. I felt as if I was intruding. It was clear to me that this house was some sort of commune. It was not necessarily my ‘style’ but it was warm and inviting and for some reason had 3 of everything. I wanted to stay there….I wanted to be part of whatever was going on here…
….My arm…part of the reason I am having trouble sleeping, worked perfectly. I could swing my arm above my head and there was no resistance. Freedom at last. This made me happy.
So there you have it. A peek into ‘a morning in the life of…’Maybe not what you expected to read on my blog but it is all I am capable of this morning. No time to analyze…my stomach is growling and my mind is fuzzy.
Dare to share a personal peek in your life? Blog me.
Gratefully your blog host,

Hidden Fire Hazards at Home
Bill Keith
Home Tips Show
We may think our homes are safe from fire, but many have lurking fire hazards. Here’s what to watch out for…
Electrical systems. Homes built prior to the 1960s might still have fuse boxes with screw-in fuses, rather than modern circuit breakers. Such systems might employ only six fuses for the entire house, compared with 15 to 18 breakers in a modern electrical system. Fewer fuses means more power running through each fuse, increasing the risk of fire. An electrician can upgrade an old fuse-based service for $800 to $1,500. Homes built between 1965 and 1972 may have aluminum wiring, which can be a fire hazard. Have a qualified electrician check your electrical system.
Power cords. Frayed extension cords and appliance cords can be fire hazards. If you have pets that like to chew on them… old electrical devices… or power cords that are hidden behind pieces of furniture or under rugs, check them for frays every year or so.
If you must plug many electrical devices into a single outlet, use a power strip with a built-in fuse, rather than an extension cord.
Crock pots and electric space heaters can become fire hazards. Before you leave one of these on overnight or while you’re out, plug it in, let it run for 15 minutes, then feel its power cord. If the cord is very warm to the touch, the appliance is not safe to use.
Dryers. Clogged dryer exhaust hoses occasionally cause fires. Every year or two, remove the hose from the back of your dryer and use your arm to gently clear out any accumulated lint. If the exterior end of your dryer hose can be easily detached, do so, and reach in from this direction, too. Then reattach the hose and run the dryer empty to blow out any remaining lint and confirm that the system is venting properly.
Grills. Thoroughly clean your grill at least once a season. Take off the grate and use a degreasing solution available at hardware and home-improvement stores. A paper clip can clear gas jet holes. When using the grill, do not place it up against the house, and make sure that the area around the grill is free of leaves and other debris that could ignite from a spark.
Chimneys. Chimneys should be professionally cleaned and inspected at least once every two years to reduce the risk of carbon monoxide backups and creosote fires. If your furnace vents through a steel pipe rather than through your chimney, have the top of this pipe inspected for animal nests and other clogs before you start the furnace for the first time each autumn.

Chamorros, its really a good time to be heading for Guam if you are looking for a job.

Guam to hire 20,000 workers
By RAYMUND F. ANTONIO
May 3, 2009, 4:45pm
Employment prospects for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) abroad seem to have brightened up in 2010 as Guam will be needing more manpower resources for its construction projects following the relocation of thousands of US military personnel and facilities from Okinawa, Japan to that country.
Jennifer Jardin-Manalili, administrator of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), said that some 15,000 to 20,000 jobs await foreign workers next year.
“With the forthcoming construction of various facilities and housing for US military personnel in Guam, our Filipino workers are being considered to be part of this huge building project by that time,” she said in an interview.
But so far, Manalili could not tell how many Filipino workers will be hired out of the personnel needed in Guam since they have to finalize an agreement yet with its labor officials.
Other jobs that await Filipino workers in Guam include engineers, electricians and plumbers aside from construction workers, she added.
“The promise of 20,000 Guam construction jobs for Filipino workers will remain an illusive dream unless several issues are unraveled by the POEA in their negotiations with the Guam labor officials on the model employment contract,” Recruitment industry leader Emmanuel Geslani said.
Geslani explained that workers are not sure to get jobs in the host country because the standard job contract being pushed by POEA contradicts Guam’s labor laws which stipulate food and accommodation will be shouldered by the workers.
“If the POEA will insist on their standard labor contract then all bets are off in this case as workers will have to pay for their food and accommodation in Guam. If POEA, however, will align a new contract for Guam then a total review of all employment contracts with other countries is necessary,” he said.

Helena, I will. Here’s mine.
A woman was sitting at a bar enjoying an after work cocktail with her girlfriends when an exceptionally tall, handsome, extremely sexy young man entered. He was so striking that the woman could not take her eyes off him.
The young man noticed her overly attentive stare and walked directly toward her. Before she could offer her apologies for so rudely staring, he leaned over and whispered to her, “I’ll do anything, absolutely anything, that you want me to do, no matter how kinky, for $20—on one condition.”
Flabbergasted, the woman asked what the condition was. The young man replied, “You have to tell me what you want me to do in just three words.”
The woman considered his proposition for a moment, the slowly removed from her purse a $20 bill, which she pressed into the young man’s hand along with her address. She looked deeply into his eyes, and slowly, meaningfully said…… “Paint my house.

Okay girls can a guy get in on this? Here’s mine.
A DATE RAPE WARNING FOR MEN!!! PLEASE READ THIS, IT’S IMPORTANT NEWS TO ALL GUYS THAT GO TO CLUBS OR BARS AND DRINK.
Guys, be more alert and cautious when getting a drink offer from a girl. There is a drug called beer that is essentially in liquid form. The most effective varieties are being shipped in from other countries. “Beer” is now being used by female sexual predators at parties to convince their male victims to have sex with them. The shocking statistic is that this “beer” is available virtually anywhere! All girls have to do is buy a beer or two for almost any guy and simply ask the guy home for no-strings-attached sex. Men are literally rendered helpless against such attacks. Please! Forward this to everyone you know…

Charles, I have but one word to say after I submit my joke (real life events make the best jokes).
A woman finds out that her husband is cheating on her while stationed in Saudi Arabia. So she sends him a very special care package. He is very excited to get a package from his wife back home. He finds that it contains a batch of home made cookies and a VHS tape of his favorite TV shows. He invites a couple of his buddies over and they’re all sitting around having a great time eating the cookies and watching some episodes of South Park. Right in the middle of one episode the tape cuts to a home video of his wife on her knees giving his best friend oral sex. After a few seconds, he does his business in her mouth and she turns and spits the load right into the mixing bowl of cookie dough. She then looks at the camera and says,
“By the way, I want a divorce.”

I don’t often stoop this type of banter, but I just couldn’t resist entering my favorite joke.
The madam opened the brothel door to see an elderly Jewish man. His clothes were all disheveled and he looked needy. “Can I help you?” the madam asked. “I want Natalie,” the old man replied. “Sir, Natalie is one of our most expensive ladies, perhaps someone else…” “No, I must see Natalie.”
Just then Natalie appeared and announced to the old man that she charges $1,000 per visit. The man never blinked and reached into his pocket and handed her ten $100 bills. The two went up to a room for an hour whereupon the man calmly left.
The next night he appeared again demanding Natalie. Natalie explained that no one had ever come back two nights in a row and that there were no discounts… it was still $1,000. Again the old man took out the money, the two went up to the room and he calmly left an hour later.
When he showed up the third consecutive night, no one could believe it. Again he handed Natalie the money and up to the room they went. At the end of the hour Natalie questioned the old man: “No one has ever used my services three nights in a row… where are you from?”
The old man replied, “I am from Minsk.”
“Really?” replied Natalie, “I have a sister who lives there.”
“Yes; I know,” said the old man. “She gave me $3,000 to give to you.”
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
No insult to either sex intended.

Guam native helping Iraqis rebuild
PACIFIC DAILY NEWS • MAY 4, 2009
With his two children already serving in the military, former Guam resident Victor Aquino decided to add one more family member to the list by joining the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to help rebuild Iraq.
Aquino, who was born and raised in Guam, lives in Ridgecrest, Calif. with his wife and children. He works as a mechanical planner and estimator with the public works department at U.S. Naval Air Weapons Station in China Lake, Calif.
On April 26, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers posted Aquino’s “Postcard from Iraq” on its web site.
The postcard talks about his experience as a USACE construction representative in Babil province:
“When I read about the challenges of reconstruction in Iraq, I saw an opportunity to serve rather than just observe. With my son Victor aboard the USS Nimitz, and daughter Marie aboard the USS Ronald Reagan, I figured if I could deploy to Iraq we’d be adding another Aquino to the effort.
“My job stateside as a Mechanical Planner and Estimator for the Public Works Department at U.S. Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, Calif., prepared me for the technical part of my job — but I had no idea about the personal satisfaction one obtains interacting with Iraqis and helping them move forward.
“As a construction representative with Gulf Region South District, I travel almost daily in the Babil province. My job is to help local Iraqi construction crews build quality schools, hospitals, water treatment facilities, and roads, on time and on budget. In a land where the language and construction techniques differ from those in the states — this is not an easy task.
“One of my favorite memories is of my March ’09 visit to the Snaditch Water Compact Unit, one of nine project sites we completed ahead of schedule. That day I realized we truly do impact people in more ways than I ever imagined. The Sheik of the community was at the worksite, smiling and very happy that USACE was ensuring that for the first time a quality water treatment facility would soon be providing clean water to the 500 Snaditch residents. He was waving his hands, tears in his eyes, proud that families there would no longer have to walk to the nearest water distribution point to obtain semi-clean water for their homes.
“I recalled my childhood years, helping my Grandfather around his ranch and how hard it was to get water from a little creek for plants and livestock. Knowing that one of my projects was positively impacting so many people, seeing the true joy in the eyes of this Sheik, made me realize that volunteering for USACE is more than just a job. The mission in Iraq gives me a great sense of satisfaction knowing that I am making a real difference for so many people here. When I return to California, my first priority will be making up for lost time with my family that I love and miss very much.
“But I’m taking home some great memories from this deployment along with a whole list of great friends from the USACE family here I’ve come to know and admire.”

Whoever Obama chooses for the Supreme Court will be the best person qualified constitutionally and compassion and empathy in every case judgment. That’s all that any of them should have, but of course most of them are extremely rightwing, which is unfortunate to say the least. It was the last two judges that sealed Bush’s fate in becoming president. That’s why Souter is leaving unfortunately but I can understand his dismay with the current justice system. Souter knows it’s all rigged and set up to have certain people reign and he cannot take it anymore. He stayed after the Bush debacle only to try and keep some kind of balance there. But once Bush put Alito and Roberts, the court was now in Bush’s favor.
The rethugs have set up our government over the years to work strictly for them, not for the people. And this is a sad thing to learn when you’ve been in the dark for centuries.
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:50 pm
just hope Obama doesn’t choose someone who is socially liberal in order to slide in yet another economically Randian pro-capitalism, pro-free market, welfare-for-the-rich type like those who put Bush in office. These economic rightwingers have proven incredibly destructive to our country and to the lives of working people and their families

Having met Sotomeyer, she is an egotistical twit who would remove herself from reality as quick as possible. I don’t think she is very intellectual in her opinions so they will not have much precedential value – basically she will be a hispanic female token pick that won’t do much.
Better to pick Sunstein or some other heavyweight who has a chance of actually changing the future.

I got an idea, how about nominating someone who WILL uphold the documents written by our country’s founders in regards to personal rights and freedoms. You know, the same old pieces of paper that every politician, police officer, member of military vows an oath to but neglects to uphold

Hate Crimes
On Wednesday, the House of Representatives passed the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act by a vote of 249-175. This bipartisan bill focuses on providing new resources to help state and local law enforcement agencies prevent and prosecute hate crimes. The current federal hate crimes law authorizes federal aid in cases of hate crimes committed because of a person’s race, color, religion, or national origin. This bill closes gaps in existing federal law by adding legislative language that includes hate crimes committed because of a person’s gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability.
Throughout our history, this nation has sought to uphold the ideals of our Founding Fathers- that all are created equal and endowed by our Creator with inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. With the passage of federal hate crimes legislation, we have affirmed these ideals and the inclusiveness that our nation stands for by extending the protection of its laws to all: ‘one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.’
Congress has been debating federal hate crimes legislation for 17 years. It was more than 10 years ago that Matthew Shepard was brutally murdered. The time for debate is long over. I am proud that the House has acted to honor this nation’s commitment to the ideals of justice, equality and opportunity.
All Americans have a right to feel safe and secure, and it is the obligation of the government to protect this fundamental right. Violence—especially violence fueled by bigotry—has no place in America.
Budget
On Wednesday, I spoke on the House floor in support of the final House-Senate Budget Resolution for fiscal year 2010, which passed by a vote of 233-193. This budget makes critical investments to strengthen our economy and our country while cutting the deficit by nearly two-thirds by 2013.
Click here to watch Speaker Pelosi speak about the budget
For eight long years of failed Bush economic policies we waited for, worked for, and hoped for a time when we would be able to pass a budget that is truly a statement of our national values. Finally, that time has come.
The budget conference report reflects President Obama’s economic plan, a blueprint for economic recovery and new jobs now—and sustainable economic growth and prosperity for years to come. And as it does so, this visionary budget focuses on the three pillars of the Obama agenda—education, health care, and energy.
For the first time in years, we will have a budget that creates jobs with targeted investments in affordable health care, clean energy, and education; cuts taxes for middle-income families by more than $1.7 trillion over 10 years; cuts the deficit by nearly two-thirds in four years; and cuts non-defense discretionary spending as a percent of the economy.
By passing this budget, Congress will once again turn our nation toward the future and launch a new era for America: a new prosperity built on the time-honored American values of hard work, accountability, sacrifice, and concern for our neighbors.
H1N1 Flu Resources
On Monday, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer and I were briefed by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano on the Obama Administration’s preparations to deal with the public health emergency caused by the H1N1 flu virus.
The Secretary also briefed us on the efforts that are being made to combat the spread of the disease. As Administration officials have indicated in various briefings, this is a constantly evolving situation and government officials are prepared to change the response as the situation warrants.
On Thursday morning, the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Health Subcommittee held a hearing on the Swine Flu Outbreak and the U.S. Federal Response. Congress will continue to closely monitor this situation and take appropriate action as we learn more about this public health emergency.
All Americans who have questions about the flu or what they should do should visit the Centers for Disease Control Web site, which will be updated regularly. The California Department of Public Health is also monitoring the swine flu in California.
Please feel free to forward this information to your family and friends. To learn more about these efforts, to express your views, or to sign up for email updates, please visit my Web site.
Sincerely,
Member of Congress
