Get Lushed

Helllooo….

Ah..It’s Friday. I am so excited the weekend is here.

I want to share something with you. I have come across a few great earth friendly products lately…well at least they seem pretty cool. And I decided to try my darnedest to get the word out to my readers. Any attempt to make this world a better place. And no I’m not connected to any of them in any way. (wish I was :) But what better way to get the word out but to blog about it?

So…I’m sure many of you were as upset as I was over the toxic soup that I wrote about a few days ago. I try to only use products that use recyclable plastics but that really doesn’t cut out the plastic in our lives.

Here’s one new solution that does. This company whose product is usually only found in plastic containers decided to lay off the bottle completely, and guess what they sell? Shampoo.

Wha’at? How does one sell shampoo without a bottle? The shampoo is called Lush (I just love that word…lush greenery, lush ripe peach…etc.), and it comes in a bar that looks like soap but is equivalent to three 8-oz of shampoo bottles.  Depending how much you wash your hair this little ‘ol bar will last you about 6 months, and is not much more than what you pay for your shampoo now…less than 10 bucks.

By using LUSH, not only will you prevent plastic waste, but you will avoid harmful chemicals. Lush contains none of those sodium lauryl and laureth sulfates. Good for the environment; good for you. And for you vegans out there – they even have a bar or two for you. I like it already and I haven’t even tried it (yet). You just wet the bar and run it across your hair a few times and lather up. Simple yes?

There are quite a few ‘flavors’ but these two sound pretty tempting: Karma Komba smells like patchouli (ah…love that scent – high school memories once again :) and citrus, and claims to put the bounce back into your hair. Gentil Lentil contains legumes (no surprise with a name like that), and claims to be a great detangler.

The company also says that you can use the bar to wash your face and body and even your clothes while you’re away on vacation. (ohh Dr. Bronner, you have some competition). I’m pretty picky about what I put on this face and bod but hey, I’ll try it on my hair. All in the goal of preserving this planet. :)

Anyone else have a cool product you want to share – blog me baby.

Peace out peeps….

Gratefully your blog host,

michelle

Sunday’s A Wrap

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 31st May 2009

At least for me in terms of voicing my opinion, that is.  My lips are sealed. At least for today :). But please, as usual, feel free to carry on, although blogsville here always seems to be slow on Sunday, which is fine with me.

Here’s an adorable photo. It put a smile on my face. I hope that it does for you too.

This little boy wanted to see if the president’s hair felt like his.

– cute huh?

*************

Doug: And I speak loudly too.

Zen Lill: Who gives a fuck? If people want to give you a beating for giving your two, who cares. It’s just another opinion, and yours is just as important as anyone else who gives theirs. I don’t think many express their thoughts freely here, and really care what any one else thinks or they wouldn’t say half of what they say. Carry on girlfriend. Everyone else does :)

No Name TAO: I agree with you; a delicious picture was painted.

Robert: As always, good to hear from you.  And as usual you always have something of importance to add that is enlightening.  Thanks for pointing out and clarifying what exactly setting a precedent in a law case means; simply and clearly.

PS: Sorry for the late post.  We are having major electrical problems in our house and internet is once again, off and on.

Signing off….peace out.

Elliot Lavine Curates, ‘I Wake Up Dreaming’: The Haunted World of The B Film Noir @ The Roxie

Posted by Michelle Moquin on 14th May 2009

Remember my dear friend Elliot? I know…I know….it has been awhile since he has left a comment on my blog. No big deal, although I do miss his commentary…But…today…today it’s all about “E”…and I want brag a little bit about him.

Are you familiar wiith the Roxie Theater in San Francisco? If you aren’t, you haven’t been hanging in the hip places – EVERYONE knows of the Roxie; it is a San Francisco icon.  We all know that Elliot is our fave local film buff, but I bet you didn’t know that many years ago…well not that many :)….Elliot was the program director for the Roxie. Yep, from 1990-2003,  Elliot transformed the venue into a destination for hardcore film noir fans.  And guess what? Hee’sss baacckk!

Now don’t get too excited  - he’s only back for two weeks but this is a two-week stint you don’t want to miss.  Yes, Elliot is back to guest curate “I Wake Up Dreaming: The Haunted World of the B Film Noir.”:

“The program of 28 obscure, bona fide film noir that Lavine affectionately describes as “cheap, lowdown and tawdry,” coincides with the underground publication of his book of the same name.”

Elliot lavine – Revisiting The Old Haunts by Sura Wood - SF 360

Yes, Elliot is not only the writer and director of two critically acclaimed short noir films, BLIND ALLEY (1981) and THE TWISTED CORRIDOR (1982), but he now he’s got a book to boot,  ”I Wake Up Dreaming: The Haunted World of the B Film Noir.” Elliot has been working on his book for quite some time, assembling and manipulating images and blurbs from his found collection of hundreds of TV Guides from the 1950s and early 60s.

A number of years ago I began gathering and collecting hundreds of TV Guides from the 1950s and early 60s and found that the cumulative effect of these blurbs was kind of astonishing, a veritable compendium of doom. So I isolated all the listings for noir films and noir TV shows like Johnny Staccato and Racket Squad, as well as horror and science fiction films, cutting and pasting them together to create one endless night of darkness and doom. I found the effect to be staggering: it represented everything that I had personally come to know and appreciate about film noir, so I decided to assemble it into a book. I think it’s something that hardcore noir fans will find interesting.

Elliot lavine – Revisiting The Old Haunts by Sura Wood - SF 360

Well I am no hardcore noir fan but I can proudly say that I am a priviledged owner of one of his first working editions. A personal autograph would be the icing on the cake (hint hint, wink wink “E” :) And for you? Why not take home Elliot’s new book as a delightful and very entertaining addition to your book collection – many of the films in the series are featured in his book; a must for any film lover.

If you are film noir fan, and even if you aren’t, you don’t want to miss this two-week event at the Roxie. Films like THE DEVIL THUMBS A RIDE, THE GUILTY, CANON CITY, ALLOTMENT WIVES, THE LAST CROOKED MILE, THE BURGLAR and HOLLOW TRIUMPH will thrill audiences with their gritty, low-down and mesmerizing nastiness. Peaked your interest? I thought so.  Isn’t it cool?

If you’re anywhere near the San Francisco Bay Area, you won’t want to miss this incredible series of films! Check out the Roxie May 15-28, with a pre-opening bash tonight, May 14. Elliot’s book will also be available to purchase at the Roxie, or you can buy it on-line

You can bet we’ll be there tonight to celebrate with Elliot and Tracey. But the question is….will we see you? I hope so.

~~~~~~~~
Hey Zen Lill:  I find it interesting that you might think I have obsessions.  That is such a strong word and I’m not sure I’d want to be obsessed with anything. TBS,  I am grateful that I do not have any.  Now  Passions, habits that I love, (and some I want to rid of :)…that is a much different story – yes those, I definitely have :)
Hi Al:  I read what you wrote and I need some time…more than I have right now, to address you. I’ll catch you tomorrow.
Have a beautiful day everyone!
michelle
Clone This! And This…And This…
Posted by Michelle Moquin on 5th May 2009
After reading my write yesterday I got an e-mail from a regular reader. And suprisingly from someone that I don’t know, or at least I am not aware if I know this person. I didn’t recognize the name but that really doesn’t mean anything since there are so many anonymouses out there, and those using pseudo names.  But nontheless I was delighted. And the request was even more of a surprise.
The e-mailer, a man, sent this note to his girlfriend hoping that she would loan herself for his little project.  He told me that the note said, “If I buy one, can we make it together? I need you to contribute obviously LOL.” And attached to that e-mail note was this link:
Clone A Willy & Make Your Own Dildo- Low Price Guarantee
holisticwisdom.com/article_sex…
Haha! I thought that his note was so cute, and so did the recipient, his girlfriend.  She agreed to participate in his little project, however, her one caveat was that he get me to write about it.  Now how could I refuse some fun for this couple?  And really…doesn’t this seem like something I might post?
If you haven’t clicked on the link yet, you’re in for a treat. This company not only sells kits to clone your man, as mentioned above, but as my loyal reader suggested to his love, he would like her to contribute her little love nest too. Yes, you too can have a clone of your favorite ‘lil pussy!…just the outer labia lips only – Unlike your honey, who can use her dildo, the perfect replica of her pussy is not penetrable. Sorry guys; this is for your lusting eyes only.
The Details: The materials are 100% natural and non toxic. And, they come in a variety of colors: white & brown skin tones, chocolate, (warning: If you’re too hot it will melt in your mouth…or um…other places) & glow in the dark. (If you wake up and want some, and your man’s gone, you’ll have no trouble finding it). Yes, even the smallest anatomical details like veins and ridges in your flesh will be reproduced (!) And for all of those women out there who like a little motion, yes you can add a vibrating device. Is this a hoot or wha’at? And hey, if Oprah endorsed it, how can you go wrong?
I only have one question:  Can you clone my asshole too? :) (Did I just say that?)
Time to get off of mine and get outta here….
Ban The Brazilian?
Posted by Michelle Moquin on 23rd March 2009
The other day I was listening to NPR, and what I heard made me laugh with thoughts of, ‘This is ridiculous!’,  But then when I started to think about it, I realized that there really was more to the story, and I didn’t find it so funny.
It seems that in New Jersey, they are trying to ban the Brazilian bikini wax. Technically, genital waxing has never been allowed in New Jersey — only the face, neck, abdomen, legs and arms are permitted. But because bare-it-all “Brazilians” weren’t specifically banned, state regulators didn’t enforce the law. That was not until now. Two women were recently hospitalized for infections following the procedure, so the state Cosmetology and Hairstyling Board proposed banning this particular bikini wax.
And, just to clue you in, in case you are not in the know, let me give you the definition of a Brazilian and a few other popular waxings.
  • The Bikini Wax – hair is removed from outside the panty line.
  • The Brazilian Bikini – leaves a vertical strip in front (landing strip), two to three fingers in width just above the vaginal area. Hair is not removed from the labia. Hair is removed from the tush. Hair may be removed from the buttock or peri-anal area.
  • The Playboy Bikini Wax – all hair is removed from the labia, all hair is removed from the tush, including the peri-anal area, and only a very narrow strip is left in the front. Named after playboy magazine because that’s what you see on the models of playboy.
  • The Sphinx (or the Full Bikini Wax) – It’s all taken off. Everywhere. Everything. Bald.
  •
    FYI: The terms ‘Playboy’ and ‘Brazilian’ are often used interchangeably. And because of the description, bare-it-all Brazilian above, my guess is in regards to this story, all the hair is removed from the labia.  The bottom line is that you can get your bikini line done any way you want.
    So….back to the Brazilian ban….
    The salon owners in New Jersey and clients at the 800 West Spa and Salon in Cherry Hill were surprised and annoyed by the proposed ban. I don’t blame them.  One reason is because bikini season is just around the corner, and this particular salon performs about 1,800 treatments — most of which were Brazilian-style, bringing in about $90,000 for the year.  That would be quite a chunk lost, if the Brazilian was banned.  And the other reason…an equally important, if not more important reason if you ask me:
    “It’s a woman’s body. If she wants to get it completely waxed then that’s up to her, it’s her choice to do that, so I don’t know why it would be illegal,” said Carol Betting of Cherry Hill.
    I hear ya. To me, this is just another way of the government trying to get into women’s pants and control us. Now the government is going to try and tell us (again!)  what we can and can not do to our bodies.  This is something personal, and we should be able to make our own decisions about our bodies.  (Oh, doesn’t this sound familiar?)
    Linda Orsuto, the owner of the salon, says this is a service that doesn’t need government intervention.
    I’m with Linda. Don’t you think the state has a lot more serious issues to deal with than bikini waxing? What next? We can’t get piercings? We can’t get a mani/pedi?!
    What about tattoos? When you think about it, I am sure there were quite a bit of infections when tattoos were first being administered. I’m mean we’re talking needles jabbing into ones skin over and over again inserting ink….Do you think that because it was  mostly males that had tattoos that this subject of safety never came up?  Maybe it did at one point but was it ever threatened to be banned?  I don’t think so, but correct me if I’m wrong.
    My point being that bikini waxing is mostly a female thing.  I’m not talking about you manscaped metrosexuals reading :) But really….If it was mostly a man thing would we be running into this issue?  Would we ever ban waxing the hairy backs of males? My thought is ‘No’.  The treatment itself may need to be cleaned up a bit (pun intended) , but banned? I think that’s going way too far.
    Well, thankfully this story ends on the clean-shaven side of the salons and their clients….at least for now.
    The state on Friday decided to reverse course on the proposal after angry salon owners complained about losing business ahead of swimsuit season.
    Ah….good decision.
